00:02Virginia Democrats are scrambling after a court loss and now weighing how far they're willing to go to get their
00:09map back.
00:09On Friday, the state Supreme Court threw out a congressional map voters had approved.
00:14Now, top Democrats are trying to figure out what comes next and fast.
00:19The clock is ticking.
00:20State elections officials say any changes need to happen within days to avoid disrupting the August primary.
00:27Behind the scenes, Democratic leaders held a private call over the weekend.
00:31According to the New York Times, frustration was high and options were wide open.
00:36One idea getting attention and pushback is to lower the mandatory retirement age for Virginia's Supreme Court justices and force
00:44out the entire court.
00:46Supporters say it's about preserving the map voters already approved.
00:50In a statement to the Times, Virginia Democratic Congressman Suhas Subramaniam said, quote,
00:56We have Republican states ignoring their constitutions and interrupting early voting and ignoring their Supreme Courts altogether.
01:04We know based on that, Republicans would explore every single option possible to move this forward.
01:11House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries, who was on that call Saturday, is also signaling no limits, telling the Times, quote,
01:18It's unprecedented in American history, as far as we can tell, that an actual election has been overturned by a
01:24handful of unelected judges.
01:26We're not going to step back. We will continue to fight back.
01:30There is still no final plan.
01:32Democrats say they're reviewing legal options, including a possible appeal,
01:36while also trying to flip congressional seats in the midterms under the current map, if nothing changes.
