Amid escalating West Asia tensions and surging global crude oil prices, the government has issued a ten-point advisory urging economic discipline to stabilise the currency. Citizens are requested to reduce fuel consumption, postpone non-essential international travel, and halt gold purchases for one year to prevent foreign exchange outflow. Recommendations include adopting electric vehicles, utilising public transport, and promoting domestically manufactured goods. Economic experts analyse these measures, emphasising the need for government austerity and policies to boost exports. Concurrently, the United States has rejected an Iranian peace proposal, heightening geopolitical concerns regarding the Strait of Hormuz and nuclear sanctions. In a separate development, the Prime Minister marked the seventy-fifth anniversary of the Somnath Temple Prana Pratishtha, releasing a commemorative stamp and coin. This visit coincided with the anniversary of the 1998 nuclear tests, linking spiritual heritage with national security and scientific progress. The broadcast highlights the intersection of civilisational significance, strategic military strength, and the urgent need for renewable energy adoption during this global crisis.

00:00Good evening, you're watching India First. I'm Gaurav Savan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's big India First message as war clouds
00:09once again loom large over West Asia is our top focus story on the broadcast.
00:14So the United States and Israel, they'd started bombing Iran on the 28th of February. Today, the 11th of May,
00:23the situation remains extremely tense. No war, no peace situation in West Asia. Some tankers trying to exit the Strait
00:31of Hormuz, they've been lit up in the recent past by Iranian drones. US President Donald Trump, he's rejected Iran's
00:39peace proposal.
00:40Israel, incidentally, is talking about being strong enough to neutralise the threat from Iran on its own without needing a
00:50US nod. The big question is, will the war flare up in West Asia once again?
00:56And in these uncertain times, as oil prices, gas and fertiliser supplies remain adversely impacted, for over two months, Prime
01:05Minister Narendra Modi has urged the people to now tighten their belts.
01:11What's he saying?
01:12One, cut down on fuel expenditure. Cut down on fuel consumption. Avoid purchase of gold, at least for the next
01:24one year. It impacts India's foreign exchange reserves.
01:31Postpone international travel unless absolutely essential. And he's also urged people to look for domestic destinations, whether it's for travel,
01:42for tourism, for destination weddings.
01:45Look within. Encourage own economy. Go vocal for local, not just in words, but also in action.
01:53So let me now break it down, the 10 points of economic self-reliance or self-defence mantra in these
02:00uncertain times.
02:01The Prime Minister has urged citizens to work from home, wherever and wherever possible.
02:06He's advised companies and employees to opt for remote working, like in the times of COVID.
02:13The idea is to reduce daily fuel consumption and get cut pressure on oil imports.
02:19On fuel savings, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to citizens to make that effort, to consciously reduce petrol and diesel
02:29consumption.
02:30He's warned every spike in global crude prices directly impacts India's economy because the country imports nearly 85% of
02:40our oil needs.
02:42The import bill for fiscal 2026 stands at nearly 135 billion dollars.
02:50The Prime Minister also urged people. He's encouraging people to use public transport as much as possible.
02:58Greater use of metro network public transport system.
03:01Reduce private vehicle usage because that can very significantly reduce fuel demand and reduce India's oil import burden.
03:10One of the strongest appeals made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on the procurement of gold, on gold purchase.
03:19Now, in India, that's actually huge.
03:22He's urged Indians to avoid buying gold for at least the next one year, saying massive gold import leads to
03:28a huge dollar outflow and that puts pressure on the rupee and on the forex reserves.
03:35Let me just try and let me attempt to put this in perspective.
03:39India imported about 72 billion dollars worth of gold in the fiscal year 2026.
03:46Now, this was a 24% jump from the previous financial year.
03:51So, look at the amount of money that's being spent to buy gold.
03:55On foreign travel, the Prime Minister has urged citizens to postpone non-essential international travel.
04:02The government believes reducing overseas spending can help at least save some foreign exchange during this very critical period when
04:12the world is going through this turmoil.
04:14It's a very volatile situation. There is no denying that fact.
04:17The Prime Minister pushed for transition towards electric vehicles.
04:21The EV boom.
04:23He sees EV adoption as a long-term solution to reduce India's dependence on imported fossil fuel and shield the
04:30economy from future oil shocks as much as possible.
04:35Then, once again, he's called for go vocal for local and not just in words, but in deed, in action.
04:43Promote made in India products is another major focus area for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
04:48And in this message, he's urged that buying domestically manufactured goods, it actually strengthens the domestic economy, the domestic market.
04:58It creates jobs.
04:59It reduces dependence on imports.
05:01The Prime Minister also urged people to reduce edible oil consumption by at least 10%.
05:07India's import of edible oil, it stood at $19.5 billion.
05:12Lower consumption can actually help reduce the country's import bill and, of course, improve your health and mine.
05:21Agriculture.
05:22Again, a key focus area.
05:24Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers by 50%.
05:29Again, India imports large quantities of fertilizer.
05:32It's not just the question of fertilizers, it's the availability.
05:36And due to wars, whether between Russia and Ukraine and now in West Asia, take, for example, India imported $14
05:43.5 billion worth of fertilizers.
05:46This is a very, very vulnerable sector, very vulnerable to global price fluctuations and supply disruptions, which is a huge
05:54challenge right now.
05:56He suggested a shift to natural farming, organic farming.
06:00And finally, the 10th message, the Prime Minister's overall message that during a period of global crisis, economic discipline is
06:09required.
06:10Collective national effort is required.
06:13He urged citizens to put India first.
06:16Everyone should contribute in every possible way to strengthen the country.
06:21This is how we, together, can emerge stronger, was the Prime Minister's message.
06:26Listen in.
06:29This is how we, together, the Prime Minister's message is required.
07:03We, together, the Prime Minister's message is required.
07:36We, together, the Prime Minister's message is required.

08:57Now since time immemorial
09:00Indians love gold
09:02They love to buy gold
09:04It's seen as a major saving
09:07So why this emphasis on
09:09Don't buy gold
09:11Especially for the next one year
09:13This message of the Prime Minister
09:14India imported an estimate 72 billion dollars worth of gold
09:19Just last year
09:20This means the country is spending about 6 billion dollars
09:23Every month on gold imports
09:26And despite gold being non-essential import
09:28According, you know, unlike crude
09:30You have to get fuel
09:32You have to get either oil or gas
09:35But you don't really need gold
09:37It's as many say
09:39It's a vanity product
09:40Do we really need it?
09:42Economists point out that gold now makes up
09:44Nearly 10% of the country's import bill
09:47Since these imports are paid for in US dollars
09:50Every surge in this gold buying spree
09:54It actually leads to increase in demand for US dollars
09:57It puts additional pressure on the rupee
10:00And one of the main reasons why rupee is down to 95 against a dollar
10:04However, even a small reduction in the appreciation of several analysts
10:09Even a small reduction in purchase of gold
10:12As the Prime Minister mentions
10:13Can make a big difference
10:14A 30-40% fall in gold imports
10:17Could save the country between 20-25 billion dollars
10:20In foreign exchange outflow every year
10:23Enough to significantly ease the pressure
10:26On the current account deficit
10:28A steeper cut could have even bigger impact
10:31If gold purchase, for example, falls by nearly 50%
10:35India could save nearly 36 billion dollars
10:37A figure that's large enough to strengthen our forex reserves
10:40And improve currency stability
10:42Especially in these times
10:44Though, of course, India is sitting on a massive
10:46You know, more than 650-odd billion dollars
10:50It could even be higher
10:52I want to quickly bring into this conversation
10:55Anish Day, KPNG's Global Head for Energy, Natural Resources and Chemicals
11:00Welcome Rahul Aluwalia
11:01As former Neeti Ayog
11:03Member, founder, director of Foundation for Economic Development
11:06And Shankar Iyer is a very well-respected senior journalist
11:09Economist, author and columnist
11:11I want to welcome all our guests
11:13And Anish Day, West Asia crisis is on for 70 days and counting
11:19Crude prices, they've surged to about $126
11:22$120 to $26 a barrel
11:25Your reading of the timing of the Prime Minister's message
11:30Well, thank you for having me
11:31I think it is
11:34It's become pretty imminent
11:35In fact, I would say that the message could have been even earlier
11:39Because for 70 days, if this has been on
11:43And at the elevated crude prices
11:48There's clearly a very large impact
11:50But I think better late than never
11:53And this actually is a clarin call
11:57And I think the Prime Minister has kind of made the mention
12:00In the strongest possible terms
12:01To save on every front
12:04So that the multiple objectives are met
12:07First, of course, is the overall outflow
12:10Is, you know, staunched
12:13But most importantly, the currency also is stabilised
12:18Rahul Alualia, when the Prime Minister talks about
12:21COVID era-like restrictions
12:24Or words to that effect
12:26Work from home, virtual meetings
12:28Carpooling, public transport
12:30In your view, is the worst yet to come?
12:35I mean, luckily he has not mentioned restrictions
12:39He has suggested that
12:41And even appealed to citizens
12:43That we take these measures
12:45To reduce the usage of fuel
12:48And to reduce import bills
12:50But there is no mention of restrictions
12:52These are optional to citizens
12:55I do think that
12:56It's not so much the worst is yet to come
12:59But I do believe that
13:00For 60-70 days
13:02The country has been behaving
13:05As though the war did not exist
13:07Right?
13:08Prices have not adjusted
13:09Because prices have not adjusted
13:12Citizens' behaviours have not adjusted
13:14So we are consuming oil
13:17We are consuming petrol
13:18We are consuming diesel
13:19The same way as we were before
13:21The rest of the world
13:23Is adjusting prices
13:24If there is a shortage of supply
13:28Demand has to adjust
13:30Because of prices
13:32So prices rise
13:33Demand falls
13:34This has not happened in India
13:36The Prime Minister is trying to make it happen
13:38Through a speech
13:39I do think that
13:40Just letting prices adjust
13:42Is the better thing to do
13:43Okay
13:44Let the rupee fall
13:45Let petrol and diesel prices rise
13:49Consumer behaviour will change automatically
13:51People who have
13:52High value uses of these things
13:55Will continue to use them
13:56People who have options
13:57Will exercise their options
13:59Prices matter
14:01And we should let prices adjust
14:03Okay
14:04Shankar Iyer
14:05The crisis of course
14:07Is not of India's making
14:08But
14:09Should these statements
14:11Have been made earlier
14:12What is your reading
14:13Of the timing
14:14Of the Prime Minister's statement
14:16That India sustained it
14:17For about 70 days
14:18And counting
14:19But now
14:20He is urging caution
14:21There are those who say
14:23And especially
14:24The Prime Minister's
14:25Political opponents
14:26That elections are over
14:27The real situation
14:29Is only now emerging
14:34Well we live in the real world
14:36So obviously
14:36In elections
14:37There was no polity
14:38Of saying
14:39Admitting
14:40There is a crisis ahead
14:42Parties need to
14:43Elections
14:43So that democracy
14:44Will put aside
14:45My point is that
14:47Appeal
14:48Has been made
14:49It's a well-made appeal
14:51But an appeal
14:52Is not a policy
14:54We should think hard
14:56About the misuse
14:59Of our resources
15:00So the Prime Minister
15:02Spoke about
15:03Using your cars
15:04I would have liked
15:06The Prime Minister
15:07To actually tell
15:08His party
15:09And other politicians
15:11Wherever they are
15:13On the use
15:14Of a cavalcade car
15:16I mean
15:17There is no
15:17Minister in Maharashtra
15:19For instance
15:19Who uses
15:20With less than
15:2210 cars
15:24Following him
15:24At least
15:25And it seems
15:27That higher
15:28The number of cars
15:29The more important
15:30You are
15:30Now there are
15:3210 million marriages
15:33Roughly 10 million
15:34Marriages
15:35Happening in India
15:37I think the appeal
15:38To not
15:39Gold
15:41I mean
15:41It's not going
15:42To sort of
15:42It will be water
15:43On the duck's back
15:44With people
15:45Gold is not
15:46Necessarily
15:49A luxury item
15:51For most Indian
15:51Families
15:52It is transfer
15:53Of wealth
15:54In hands
15:55It is hedging
15:58Against inflation
15:59And troubled times
16:01And you just
16:02Have to look
16:02At the number
16:03Of banks
16:03That are now
16:04Lending against gold
16:05So this is
16:06Not necessarily
16:08It is like
16:09It is like
16:10It's like
16:10Investment
16:11So
16:11The story
16:13Is a little
16:14Different
16:14And the issue
16:15Of buying
16:17Less gold
16:18May actually
16:18End up
16:19Some of the
16:20Labor intensive
16:21Employment
16:22In the gold
16:22And jewelry
16:23Sectors
16:24Having said
16:25That's a very
16:25Important point
16:26You make
16:26Go on
16:27Complete your point
16:27Complete your point
16:30So there is
16:31One important
16:32Thing that I
16:33Would want
16:34To be sort
16:35Of recorded
16:36There is
16:37A definite
16:37Need
16:38One thing
16:39That happens
16:39In India
16:40When
16:40It comes
16:41From the
16:42Prime
16:42For instance
16:43During the
16:44LPG
16:45He asked
16:48The natural
16:49The city
16:51Gas companies
16:52To sort
16:53Of accelerate
16:53And it has
16:55Had a very
16:55Visible effect
16:56In cities
16:57The expansion
16:58Of gas
16:59I would like
17:00A similar
17:01Effect
17:02I hope
17:03In the
17:04Adoption
17:05Of solar
17:06The sooner
17:06Program
17:07And in
17:09Adoption
17:10Of rooftop
17:10Solar
17:11Across
17:11Cities
17:13At least
17:14For the
17:14Use
17:15Lifts
17:15Backup
17:16And stuff
17:17Like that
17:17So shift
17:18From this
17:19Whole million
17:20Barrel
17:20Thesis
17:21To
17:22Kilowatt
17:22Megawatt
17:23Thesis
17:24Where our
17:25Potential
17:25Is
17:26And finally
17:27Go
17:27You can't
17:28Run away
17:29From the
17:29Fact
17:29For the
17:30Last
17:31Years
17:31Not a
17:32Thing
17:32Well
17:33Has come
17:33And the
17:34Amman
17:34Project
17:35Is sort
17:35Of
17:35Stalled
17:36Between
17:36Babus
17:37Say
17:38Yes
17:38And Babus
17:39Who
17:39No
17:39Oh
17:40Absolutely
17:40So the
17:41Government
17:42Needs
17:42To
17:42Put
17:42Its
17:43House
17:43In
17:43Order
17:43First
17:44That's
17:44Essential
17:45Government
17:46Austerity
17:46And that's
17:47Cutting
17:47Across
17:47Political
17:48Lines
17:49You've
17:49Seen
17:50Several
17:50Chief
17:50Ministers
17:51Moving
17:51In
17:5130

17:53That
17:53That needs
17:54To
17:54Stop
17:54First
17:55Is
17:56The
17:56Message
17:56That
17:56You

18:26Follows
18:27The
18:28Appeal
18:28Is
18:28A
18:28Precursor
18:29To
18:29Some
18:30Of
18:30The
18:30Policy
18:30Measures
18:31At
18:31least
18:31That's
18:31What
18:31I
18:31Would
18:32Believe
18:33So
18:33Let's
18:34Watch
18:34The
18:35Next
18:35Few
18:35Days
18:35And
18:35See
18:36What
18:36Are
18:36The
18:36Policy
18:37Measures
18:37Which
18:37Are
18:37Taken
18:38Be
18:39It
18:39On
18:41Crude
18:41Or
18:42Petroleum
18:43Products
18:43Be
18:44It
18:45On
18:45Other
18:45Aspects
18:46We
18:47Need
18:47To
18:47Be
18:47Watching
18:48That
18:49What
18:49I
18:49Do
18:49Not
18:50Want
18:50And
18:50What
18:51We
18:51Heard
18:51Before
18:52From
18:52Others
18:53To
18:54Speak
18:54Is
18:54That
18:54We
18:54Don't
18:55Want
18:55A
18:55Restriction
18:55Economy
18:56We
18:56Don't
18:57Want
18:57To
18:57Unnecessarily
18:58Put
18:58Restrictions
18:59In
18:59And
19:00That
19:00Creates
19:01Its
19:01Own
19:01Loopholes
19:02We
19:02Don't
19:02Want
19:02That
19:03To
19:03Happen
19:03But
19:04At
19:04The
19:04Same
19:04Time
19:04We
19:04Need
19:05Signals
19:06Towards
19:06Rational
19:07Consumption
19:07Which
19:08I
19:08Think
19:09Is
19:09Very
19:09Very
19:09Important
19:10And
19:10That's
19:10Gone
19:11Missing
19:11If
19:12I
19:12Had
19:12To
19:12Break
19:12This
19:12Into
19:13Three
19:13Parts
19:13This
19:14Whole
19:14Thing
19:14Which
19:15We
19:15Are
19:15Seeing
19:15Over
19:15The
19:15Past
19:1670
19:16Days
19:17Into
19:17Three
19:17Parts
19:17There's
19:18The
19:18First
19:18Part
19:19Which
19:19Is
19:19The
19:19Supply
19:20Response
19:20Making
19:21Sure
19:21That
19:21The
19:21Supply
19:22Chains
19:22Work
19:23And
19:24Even
19:24In
19:24The
19:24Time
19:25Of
19:25Crisis
19:25And
19:25This
19:25Is
19:26A
19:26Very
19:26Severe
19:26Crisis
19:27I
19:27Think
19:27The
19:28Government
19:28Has
19:28Done
19:28Very
19:29Well
19:29Across
19:30Commodities
19:30It
19:30Has
19:31Done
19:31Very
19:31Well
19:31We
19:32Heard
19:32The
19:32City
19:32Gas
19:33Case
19:33As
19:34Well
19:34Then
19:35The
19:35Second
19:35Part
19:36Comes
19:36In
19:36The
19:36Financial
19:37Health
19:38Of
19:38The
19:38Operators
19:39And
19:40The
19:40Fiscal
19:40Prudence
19:41Of
19:41The
19:41Government
19:41I
19:42Think
19:42This
19:42Is
19:42Where
19:43We
19:43Still
19:44Have
19:44Action
19:45To
19:45See
19:45Because
19:46There
19:46Is
19:46A
19:46Big
19:47Concern
19:47Given
19:48The
19:48Ballooning
19:49Bill
19:50That
19:50We
19:50Have
19:50Because
19:51Of
19:52Crude
19:53Because
19:54Of
19:54Gold
19:54Because
19:55Of
19:55Fertilizers
19:55All
19:56Of
19:56That
19:56And
19:57The
19:57Third
19:57Part
19:58Is
19:58Signaling
19:59For
20:00The
20:00Longer
20:00Term
20:00And
20:00This
20:01Is
20:01Where
20:01Solar
20:01And
20:02Others
20:02Come
20:02In
20:02But
20:03Unless
20:04You
20:04Actually
20:05Act
20:06On
20:06The
20:06Second
20:06Part
20:07Your
20:07Third
20:07Part
20:07Won't
20:07Happen
20:08Very
20:08Easily
20:08So
20:09Which
20:09Means
20:10That
20:10You
20:10Have
20:10To
20:11Work
20:12On
20:12The
20:12Prices
20:12And
20:13Give
20:13The
20:13Price
20:13Signals
20:14To
20:14The
20:14Users
20:15Rather
20:15Than
20:15Quantity
20:16Signals
20:16You
20:16Don't
20:17Want
20:17To
20:17Ration
20:17But
20:18And
20:18That
20:19In
20:19Itself
20:20Will
20:20Start
20:20Signaling
20:21Towards
20:21Use
20:22Of
20:22Alternate
20:23Forms
20:23Of
20:23Energy
20:24And
20:25Accelerate
20:26Those
20:26Of
20:26Course
20:31Main
20:31Crisis
20:32Right
20:32Now
20:32Because
20:33Of
20:33Crude
20:34People
20:34Not
20:35Travelling
20:35Overseas
20:35For
20:36Holidays
20:36Or
20:37Weddings
20:37Or
20:38Not
20:38Purchasing
20:38Gold
20:39Does
20:39That
20:40Actually
20:40Help
20:40Deal
20:40With
20:41The
20:41Current
20:41Situation
20:41Or
20:42Is
20:42This
20:43The
20:43Government
20:44Telling
20:45The
20:45People
20:45There
20:45Is
20:45A
20:46Problem
20:46Not
20:46Putting
20:47Restrictions
20:47But
20:48Seeking
20:48Symbolic
20:49Participation
20:51Yeah
20:52I
20:52Think
20:52There
20:52Are
20:52Two
20:53Aspects
20:54Right
20:54It's
20:54Not
20:55That
20:55It's
20:56Just
20:56Because
20:56Of
20:57Crude
20:57Crude
20:57Is
20:57Obviously
20:58The
20:58Most
20:58Directly
20:59Affected
21:00Aspect
21:00Of
21:01The
21:02Supply
21:02Chain
21:03The
21:03Energy
21:03Aspect
21:04Because
21:04Of
21:04The
21:04Geographical
21:05Location
21:05Of
21:06The
21:06Crisis
21:06But
21:07As
21:08A
21:08Result
21:09Our
21:09Current
21:09Account
21:10Deficit
21:10Is
21:11Worsening
21:12Right
21:12Because
21:13Crude
21:13Prices
21:13Have
21:14Risen
21:14What
21:15Is
21:15Exacerbating
21:16This
21:16Problem
21:16Is
21:17That
21:17We
21:17Are
21:17Not
21:18Letting
21:18The
21:18Rupee
21:18Depreciate
21:19We
21:19Are
21:19Not
21:19Letting
21:20Prices
21:20Get
21:21Affected
21:21See
21:22What
21:22Happens
21:23When
21:23The
21:23Rupee
21:23Depreciates
21:24Automatically
21:25Imports
21:26Become
21:26More
21:26Expensive
21:27You
21:28Don't
21:28Need
21:28To
21:28Say
21:28Anything
21:29To
21:29Anybody
21:29Once
21:30The
21:30Import
21:31Is
21:31More
21:31Expensive
21:32Everyone
21:33Adjusts
21:34Accordingly
21:34When
21:34The
21:34Foreign
21:35Vacation
21:36Becomes
21:3620%
21:37More
21:37Expensive
21:38Far
21:39Fewer
21:39People
21:39Will
21:40Take
21:40It
21:40Right
21:41When
21:41The
21:42Destination
21:42Wedding
21:42Becomes
21:4340%
21:44More
21:44Expensive
21:45Fewer
21:45People
21:46Will
21:46Take
21:46It
21:46This
21:46Is
21:47Basic
21:47Supply
21:48And
21:48Demand
21:48Economics
21:49We
21:50Have
21:50Not
21:50Allowed
21:51The
21:51Rupee
21:51To
21:52Depreciate
21:53I
21:53Think
21:53Because
21:53There
21:53Is
21:53A
21:54False
21:54Equivalence
21:55In
21:55The
21:55Indian
21:56Public
21:56Mind
21:56With
21:57The
21:57Rupee
21:58And
21:58India's
21:58National
21:59Strength
21:59There
21:59Is
22:00No
22:00Such
22:00Reason
22:01To
22:02Believe
22:02That
22:02The
22:03Rupees
22:03Level
22:03Determines
22:04India's
22:05National
22:05Strength
22:05It's
22:06Just
22:06A
22:07Matter
22:07Of
22:07Supply
22:07And
22:07Demand
22:08And
22:08We
22:08Should
22:08Be
22:08Rational
22:09About
22:09This
22:10So
22:10I
22:11Think
22:11The
22:11Supply
22:12Of
22:12Crude
22:12Your
22:13Right
22:13Has
22:19Sees
22:19Find
22:20Their
22:20Natural
22:21Level
22:21Has
22:22Made
22:22Everything
22:22Worse
22:23Like
22:24Anish
22:24Was
22:24Saying
22:25I
22:25Do
22:25Hope
22:25That
22:26The
22:26Speech
22:27Is
22:27A
22:27Precursor
22:28To
22:28Policy
22:28Which
22:29Allows
22:29These
22:30Prices
22:30To
22:30Get
22:30Changed
22:32One
22:32Policy
22:33Two
22:33The
22:33Government
22:33Leading
22:34By
22:34Example
22:35Irrespective
22:35Government
22:36At
22:36The
22:36Center
22:36Government
22:37At
22:37States
22:38If
22:38They
22:38Continue
22:39To
22:39Splurge
22:40And
22:40People
22:40Are
22:40Asked
22:40To
22:41Check
22:42Their
22:42Expenses
22:43Then
22:44It
22:44Looks
22:45Rather
22:45Awkward
22:46Shankar
22:46Because
22:47The
22:47Gold
22:47Industry
22:48For
22:48Example
22:48Or
22:49The
22:49Travel
22:49Industry
22:50They
22:51Are
22:51Extremely
22:52Upset
22:52They
22:52Think
22:52About
22:53Us
22:53Think
22:53About
22:54Our
22:54Lifetime
22:55Our
22:55Livelihood
22:56You
22:56Know
22:56This
22:57Is
22:57The
22:57Time
22:57Summer
22:58Month
22:58They
22:58Are
22:58Looking
22:59Forward
22:59To
22:59Making
23:00Some
23:00Money
23:00Because
23:01Of
23:01Marriages
23:01They
23:02Are
23:02Looking
23:02Forward
23:02Because
23:03People
23:03Will
23:03Travel
23:04Overseas
23:04On
23:05Holidays
23:06Is
23:06This
23:07Measure
23:07Helping
23:07Or
23:08Will
23:08This
23:08Just
23:08Create
23:09More
23:09Panic
23:09In
23:10The
23:10Market
23:13And
23:13Dara
23:13Human
23:14Behavior
23:15Functions
23:16On
23:18Incentive
23:19Disincentives
23:20So
23:20If
23:21You
23:21Want
23:21To
23:21Discourage
23:22Destination
23:22Wedding
23:23You
23:23Must
23:24Encourage
23:24Domestic
23:25Wedding
23:25So
23:26There
23:26Is
23:26Way
23:26To
23:27Do
23:27It
23:27If
23:28You
23:28Want
23:28To
23:28Encourage
23:29For
23:30Instance
23:30Metro
23:31Travel
23:31Or
23:31Car
23:32Thing
23:32You
23:33Know
23:33Let's
23:34Look
23:35At
23:35Carpooling
23:35Can
23:36We
23:37Can
23:37The
23:37Government
23:37Ask
23:38The
23:39Taxi
23:40Services
23:40Uber
23:41Ola
23:41Rapido
23:42Whatever
23:42To
23:43Sort
23:43Of
23:43Design
23:45System
23:46Where
23:46Carpooling
23:47Becomes
23:47More
23:48Attractive
23:48Now
23:49You
23:49Want
23:49People
23:50To
23:50Use
23:50Metro
23:51Damn
23:51Metro
23:52Should
23:52Take
23:52You
23:52From
23:52One
23:53Place
23:53To
23:53Other
23:53And
23:54Which
23:54In
23:54You
23:55Can't
23:56I
23:56Mean
23:56No
23:57Matter
23:57How
23:58Much
23:59Praise
23:59Heaped
24:00Upon
24:00The
24:00Reconstruction
24:01That
24:02And
24:02All
24:02Of
24:02That
24:03Is
24:03Part
24:03But
24:04The
24:04Colaba
24:04To
24:05Whatever
24:05Metro
24:06Line
24:07Doesn't
24:07It's
24:08Only
24:08The
24:09North
24:09South
24:09Access
24:10There
24:10Is
24:10Nothing
24:11In
24:11The
24:11East
24:11West
24:11Access
24:12Which
24:12Will
24:13Transport
24:13Is
24:13Needed
24:14So
24:14I
24:15Hope
24:15This
24:16Comes
24:16Out
24:16When
24:17They
24:17Do
24:17That
24:18And
24:18Finally
24:19I
24:19Want
24:19To
24:19Make
24:19A
24:19Small
24:20Point
24:20On
24:20The
24:20Big
24:21Thing
24:21Which
24:21Rahul
24:21Said
24:24When
24:24This
24:24Thing
24:25Started
24:25One
24:26Of
24:26The
24:26Prime
24:27Minister
24:28On

25:48That
25:49The

27:03What

27:04Is
27:04The

27:26Is

27:27Even
27:27Sustainable
27:28Or
27:28Is
27:28This
27:28Cosmetic
27:30So
27:31First
27:31Thing
27:31Is
27:31That
27:32You
27:32Had
27:32Earlier
27:32Asked
27:33A
27:33Question
27:33On
27:33How
27:34Long
27:34This
27:34Is
27:34Going
27:34To
27:35Continue
27:35Now
27:36Even
27:36If
27:36The
27:36Hostility
27:37Stop
27:37Now
27:37The
27:38Effects
27:38Are
27:38Going
27:39To
27:39Continue
27:39For
27:39Several
27:40Months
27:40Nine
27:41Months
27:41Twelve
27:41Months
27:42And
27:42It
27:42Is
27:43Going
27:43To
27:43Cause
27:43Inflation
27:44So
27:44There
27:44Is
27:44A
27:44Real
27:45Spectre
27:45Of
27:45Inflation
27:46And
27:46The
27:46Consumer
27:46Will
27:47Be
27:47Paying
27:47The
27:48Cost
27:48Of
27:48Inflation
27:49Because
27:49It
27:49Hits
27:49The
27:50Poor
27:50Man
27:50The
27:50Most
27:50So
27:51One
27:52Of
27:52The
27:52Things
27:52To
27:52Do
27:53Is
27:53To
27:53Just
27:53Get
27:54The
27:54Fisk
27:55In
27:55Line
27:56And
27:57The

27:58Is

28:00The

28:02There
28:03Is
28:03No
28:03Practical
28:04Way
28:04Out
28:05Of
28:05That
28:05And
28:06Then
28:06You
28:06Have
28:06To

28:11Than
28:11We

28:12We
28:12Spoken
28:12About
28:12All
28:13Of
28:13These
28:13See
28:14There
28:14No
28:14Easy
28:14Solutions
28:15To
28:15A
28:15Complex
28:16Problem
28:16Like
28:17This
28:17And
28:18While
28:18We
28:19Must
28:19Diversify
28:19Our
28:20Energy
28:20Storage
28:20Strategic
28:21Reserves
28:22They
28:22Are
28:22Only
28:22To
28:23The
28:23Extent
28:23Of
28:2310
28:24Days
28:24Will
28:24Become
28:2520
28:25Days
28:25We
28:26Have
28:27To
28:27Get
28:27Used
28:27To
28:27The
28:27Fact
28:28That
28:28There
28:28Will
28:28Be
28:29Disruptions
28:29Of
28:30Some
28:30Kind
28:30Of
28:31Other
28:31We
28:31Are
28:31Seeing
28:31Continual
28:32Series
28:32Of
28:33Disruptions
28:33Over
28:33The
28:33Last
28:34Seven
28:34Ten
28:35Years
28:35So
28:35I
28:36Think
28:36There
28:36Needs
28:36To
28:37Be
28:37A
28:37Longer
28:37Term
28:37Thing
28:38Where
28:38We
28:38Think
28:38About
28:39Energy
28:39Being
28:39Much
28:40More
28:40Sovereign
28:40And
28:41One
28:41Of
28:41The
28:41Best
28:41Ways
28:42To
28:42Do
28:42It
28:42Is
28:42To
28:42Go
28:42Towards
28:44Electrification
28:44And
28:45Within
28:45Electrification
28:46As
28:46Much
28:46As
28:46Possible
28:47Using
28:48Clean
28:48Energy
28:49Which
28:49Today
28:50Is
28:50Unconditioned
28:50Competitive
28:51So
28:51I
28:51Think
28:52The
28:52Whole
28:52Ecosystem
28:53Has
28:53To
28:53Be
28:54Worked
28:55On
28:55And
28:55Has
28:56To
28:56Transform
28:56Faster
28:57The
28:57Pace
28:58Of
28:58Change
28:58Needs
28:59To
28:59Be
28:59Much
29:00Faster
29:00Perhaps
29:07Ministers
29:07Suggesting
29:08Right
29:09Now
29:09Could
29:10Lead
29:10To
29:10Wider
29:11Inflation
29:12And
29:13That
29:13There
29:13Could
29:13Be
29:13Fear
29:14It
29:14Could
29:14Also
29:14Lead
29:15To
29:15People
29:15You
29:16Know
29:16Not
29:17Spending
29:17At
29:17All
29:18Is
29:18That
29:18An
29:18Apprehension
29:20Look
29:21It
29:21Will
29:22If
29:22The
29:23Prices
29:23Do
29:23Go
29:24Up
29:24As
29:24I
29:24Am
29:24Recommending
29:25As
29:25Anish
29:25Is
29:25Recommending
29:27There
29:27Will
29:27Be
29:28Some
29:28Inflation
29:28On
29:29Some
29:29Items
29:29Right
29:30But
29:30It
29:31Is
29:31A
29:31General
29:32Finding
29:32Of
29:32Economics
29:33That
29:33It
29:33Is
29:33Money
29:34Printing
29:35That
29:35Leads
29:35To
29:36General
29:36Economy
29:37While
29:37Inflation
29:37What
29:38Happens
29:38When
29:39A
29:39Few
29:39Items
29:40Go
29:41Up
29:41In
29:41Prices
29:42Is
29:42That
29:43People
29:43Substitute
29:43Away
29:44From
29:44Those
29:44To
29:44The
29:45Extent
29:45Possible
29:45So
29:46I
29:46Think
29:46The
29:47Government
29:47Has
29:48Actually
29:48Been
29:48Taken
29:49Great
29:50Care
29:50That
29:50Widespread
29:51Shortages
29:51Etc
29:52Don't
29:52Happen
29:52So
29:53In
29:53Those
29:53Senses
29:54They
29:54Have
29:54Done
29:55A
29:55Good
29:55Job
29:55But
29:56If
29:56Prices
29:56Adjust
29:57People
29:57Will
29:58Adjust
29:58In
29:58Return
29:58So
29:59We
29:59Already
30:00Saw
30:00News
30:00Reports
30:01For
30:01Instance
30:01Of
30:02When
30:02There
30:02Was
30:03Fear
30:03That
30:03LPG
30:04Will
30:04Be
30:04In
30:05Short
30:05Supply
30:06They
30:06Were
30:06Shifting
30:07Towards
30:07Electric
30:07Stokes
30:08So
30:08And
30:09That
30:09Kind
30:09Of
30:09Thing
30:09People
30:10Will
30:10Automatically
30:10Do
30:11I
30:12Would
30:12Not
30:12Worry
30:13About
30:13Widespread
30:14Inflation
30:14There
30:14Will
30:15Be
30:15Inflation
30:15On
30:15A
30:16Few
30:16Things
30:16Energy
30:16Prices
30:17And
30:18Some
30:18Of
30:18Those
30:18Cascades
30:19Like
30:19Food
30:19Etc
30:20But
30:20I
30:21Wouldn't
30:21Worry
30:21About
30:21Inflation
30:22So
30:29Worse
30:29Is
30:30Yet
30:30To
30:30Come
30:30Because
30:31The
30:31Situation
30:31In
30:31West
30:32Asia
30:33Remains
30:33Volatile
30:33And
30:34Could
30:34Take
30:35A
30:35Turn
30:35From
30:35Bad
30:35To
30:35Worse
30:37As
30:38Long
30:38As
30:38Donald
30:39Trump
30:39Is
30:39In
30:39Office
30:40You
30:40Can
30:40Always
30:40Assume
30:41That
30:41The
30:41Worse
30:42Is
30:42Yet
30:42To
30:42Come
30:45Okay
30:46You
30:46Took

35:36Complete
35:37Tizzy
35:38Iran does have an upper edge and an upper hand.
35:41And in that, it's not willing to compromise on the nuclear conversations.
35:45They said that this conversation has been happening for way too long.
35:48They need time for conversation.
35:50Put that on hold.
35:51Focus on the Strait of Hormuz and opening of the Strait of Hormuz for Iran.
35:57The red line is the naval blockade by America.
36:00They say if you want the Strait of Hormuz to be free,
36:05then you will have to ensure that the U.S. naval blockade also ends
36:10and the U.S. forces retreat.
36:13So the war that started, Gita, on the 28th of February,
36:17now it's the 11th of May.
36:18Are we any closer to a solution or is this just continuing,
36:23God forbid, endlessly?
36:25Gita, keep tracking that story.
36:27I will come back to you for more.
36:28Prime Minister Narendra Modi was at the Somnath Temple.
36:32The Prime Minister led celebrations marking 75 years of the Pran Pratishtha
36:39at the Somnath Temple.
36:41And this truly is historic.
36:43Now watch these images.
36:44The Prime Minister offered the Kumbhavi Sheik,
36:47the Mahapuja at the Jyotirling Shrine.
36:50The Prime Minister has described the Somnath Mandir
36:53as a symbol of India's timeless faith, resilience and a spiritual heritage.
37:01Now, one of Hindu religions or Sanatana dharam's holiest shrines,
37:08Somnath Temple has long stood as a symbol,
37:11one, of attacks on India,
37:13of destruction of the temple,
37:16an attempt to destroy not just the physical form of the temple,
37:20but our faith, our belief,
37:21to try and convert Hindus to another religion.
37:26But, as the Prime Minister put it,
37:29the Sanatana Sanskriti is all about
37:38So that's why there's this cycle of birth and death and rebirth
37:43in our culture, in our way of life.
37:45And that is why a temple structure may be desecrated,
37:49but the Atma of the temple remains and it rises once again.
37:54Marking this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi
37:57also released a commemorative stamp and coins
37:59dedicated to this journey of the Somnath Temple.
38:03But the visit was not just about spirituality.
38:06He invoked Sardar Wallabhai Patel and how,
38:09in 1947, when India became independent,
38:12Sardar Wallabhai Patel, K.M. Munshi and others,
38:15they were very clear for an independent nation.
38:18And remember, India was finally free,
38:20not just after 200 years of British rule,
38:24but as the Bharatiya Janta Party put it as Sardar Patel,
38:30after 1,000 years of foreign invasions and rule.
38:34So rebuilding the Somnath,
38:36remembering the spirit of this country,
38:39and of course, 11th of May, 1998,
38:42the Prime Minister also made a reference
38:44to our strategic strength,
38:45the Pokhra nuclear test,
38:48India's scientific temper.
38:50Yes, there is rich cultural heritage,
38:52but there's also the constant scientific temper.
38:55The Prime Minister blended faith,
38:58belief, religion, history, science,
39:02and nationalism.
39:03We get you more in this report.
39:16Today, we are making the peace of their religion,
39:22and we are making the peace of their religion.
39:32Spirituality mixed with nationalism.
39:36That was the theme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the Somnath Temple in Gujarat
39:41during the Amrut Mahatsav celebrations, marking 75 years of the temple's reconstruction.
39:53He began the day by offering Mahapuja at the revered Somnath Jotir Ling Shrine,
39:59describing the temple as a symbol of faith, resilience and cultural continuity.
40:09The Prime Minister also released commemorative stamp and coin to mark 75 years of the temple's reconstruction.
40:18He recalled the building of Somnath, praising Sardar Vallabhai Patel and First President Dr. Rajendra Prasad
40:26for supporting the restoration effort, despite opposition from then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
40:32Sardar Vallabhai Patel and Dr. Rajendra Prasad ji,
40:49Sardar Prasad ji,
40:51Sardar Prasad ji,
40:55Sardar Prasad ji,
41:22The spiritual atmosphere at Somnath was followed by a display of military power as the Indian Afo
41:28forces Surya Kiran aerobatic team carried out a flypast over the Temple Town.
41:41The tricolour display drew cheers from the crowd, with the Prime Minister saying the
41:45flypast reflected the strength and confidence of a new India.
41:50Prime Minister Modi then invoked the Pokhra nuclear test of May 11, 1998, calling them
41:56a defining moment in India's strategic and scientific journey.
42:01Marking National Technology Day, he paid tribute to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee
42:06and the scientists behind Operation Shakti.
42:09The nation named Operation Shakti Operation Shakti, because of the power of Shiva,
42:23Aradhana, ye hamaari parampara rahi.
42:32From Somnath's spiritual legacy to tributes to countries' scientific achievements, Prime
42:37Minister Modi's visit carried both religious and nationalistic messaging.
42:51B.J.P. MP Sudhanshu Trivedi now joins me on the significance of this Kumbhabish Sheikh.
42:59Sudhanshu Ji, welcome. 75th anniversary of the Pran Pratishtha of the Somnath Temple.
43:05Why is this so significant spiritually and also from the point of view of the nation?
43:17This Amrat Mahotsav of Somnath symbolizes the true spirit of Bhagwan Shankar's vision,
43:28Bhagwan Shankar's ideals which Modiji is trying to inculcate in his thought process.
43:35He says,
43:36He says,
44:32He says,
44:32He says,
44:32He says,
44:32At that point of time.
44:33And the Prime Minister referred to it today.
44:35Then Home Minister,
44:37The Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhai Patel,
44:40K. Munshi.
44:41They insisted on rebuilding the Somnath Temple
44:43and╧Б╬м musheф╣Еri Naast First President,
44:46Dr SуБЛуВЙ Rajendra Prasad,
44:47Despite Pandit Nehru's reservations
44:49insisted on attending the Pran Pratishtha.
44:53And of course, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's devotion
44:55at the temple today.
44:56Now, why is Somnath Temple so important in the lives of Sardar Patel, of Dr. Rajendra Prasad and the leadership
45:04today?
45:09Actually, I do not want to go into that history.
45:12Jawaharlal Nehruji was not just against Somnath.
45:15He was against the temple as a just temple as a place of worship.
45:20In 1959, in presence of Humanyuk Kabir, he has given a lecture on some Indian museum and it is also
45:32in the AI archives and All India Radio archives and also in the Jawaharlal Nehruji selected work.
45:38He says that whenever I go to South Indian temples and the long corridors of the grand temples of South
45:45India, I feel depressed.
45:48And when I come and stand in front of Taj Mahal, I feel very energized and enlightened.
45:54So, that shows his fundamental mindset.
45:56But as far as Prime Minister Modi Ji is concerned, I can say that this is a divine blessing on
46:02Prime Minister Srinathar Modi that on 50th anniversary of this,
46:06when Prime Minister Modi Ji was then Chief Minister of Gujarat and then Attal B. Hari Bajpayee Ji was also
46:12present as Prime Minister.
46:13Now, on the 75th anniversary, he has got the opportunity rather than he got the blissful opportunity to be present
46:24as Prime Minister of the country.
46:26So, I think this is also showing that which thought process, which political ideology is having which type of connection
46:36with the original Indian consciousness and nationalism.
46:41Okay, but this isn't just about the Somna temple.
46:45Yes, it's the Somna temple today.
46:47But the Prime Minister was also there at the Pran Pratishtha of the Sri Ram Janmabhumi temple at Ayodhya.
46:54So, what is that larger message that Prime Minister Narendra Modi gives when he visits various temples across the country
47:02and at times even beyond upwaters?
47:04Yes, I would like to say those who are witnessing or trying to analyze this as just a political thing,
47:16I think they are at the fault.
47:18This is nothing but, this is the original awakening of an ancient civilization which has fought a bloodied 2000 years
47:29of attack, 800 years of direct foreign subjugation
47:33and whenever it will come out, obviously it will take at least two generations to come out in a natural
47:39form.
47:40So, whatever you have seen in 1990s, the rise of so-called Hindutu rise was nothing but the India coming
47:47in its original form.
47:48And now, under Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi, I think he has been designated by the destiny to lead to
47:54that.
47:54Whatever is coming at Sri Ram Mandir, Mahakal, Pawagadi Temple, Somnath, reconstruction of the Kedarnath, it is nothing but, it
48:05is a resurgence of the original Indian spirit.
48:08Gaurav ji, I would like to point out one thing.
48:10Upside Vindiyas, there is no huge temple which has been constructed in the last several centuries.
48:20Maharani Ahiliya bhai, Holkar ji has tried and they were subsequently destroyed by several invaders.
48:26So, Ram Temple was the first grand major Hindu temple which has been built on the classical Shastriya parampara upside
48:38Vindiyas.
48:39So, that shows that the India is coming in its natural form.
48:44It is nothing but, we are back in our original form.
48:47It is not any political thing.
48:49If somebody wants to see it as political, our view is it is civilization.
48:55Okay, no but you are saying this is Sanatan rising.
48:59While some see this as Sanatan rising, there are those who ask what about separation, if I may, of the
49:06state and church.
49:08You know, they say this secular line is being blurred.
49:19The only civilization in the entire world which is a true secular in its nature, I will not try to
49:30subscribe the word secular because it itself is a very faulty meaning.
49:34I will say Sarva Dharma Sambhav.
49:36It is only Hindu civilization.
49:40I just want to say, with due respect to everybody, those who say that the church is separate from religion.
49:46So, Pope is officially head of the state, say yes or no.
49:49He is a political figure also and a religious figure also.
49:54In Islamic tradition, Khalifa or the Caliph is a political head also and the religious head also.
50:00But in Hinduism, no way can Shankaracharya or Mahamandaleshwar or Mathadhish or anything, Mahamandaleshwar, Shankarajar or a head of any
50:10sect can become the head of the state.
50:13So, I think there is a clear separation.
50:16And one more thing I would like to say, in other cultures, there is a written document that how to
50:23deal with those people or those section of your masses who do not have believed in your faith.
50:31Like Zazia and Zimmi in Islam and how to deal with non-Christians in Christian rule.
50:37But there is no such in Hinduism.
50:39And I would also like to remind you, this is not just a philosophical concept, this is a practical concept.
50:46In Prayag Kummela, 66 crore people came and 50 lakh were outsider, out of which 90% were non-Hindus.
50:56Can you think of any non-Christian wants to go Vatican for the religious purpose or any non-Muslim wants
51:03to go Hajj for the religious purpose?
51:06But here there was no restriction.
51:08And if, if the first condition will be you, first you get converted, then you can go.
51:14Here, 50 lakh people came.
51:16Nobody asked them that you want to get converted.
51:19Shreemati Sonia Gandhiji, she is a Roman Catholic Christian.
51:22She went to Kummela in 2001.
51:24She got a dip at Sangam Nose and nobody objected to that.
51:28So this concept of church separation, others, I think they are irrelevant, illogical concept in the context of India.
51:38In Indian context, there is no conflict of religion with science.
51:42There is no connection with the religion to the state.
51:45And that's why you cannot show any Hindu king in the documented history who has massacred or has done any
51:54injustice to the non-Hindu subject.
51:56I challenge.
51:56After the advent of Islam, there were three rulers, which can be called Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Hindvi Suraj.
52:05Subsequently, at the time of Peshwai Empire, it was called Hindupat Patshahi, Vijayanagar Samrajji of South and Maharaja Ranjit Singh's
52:13empire in the north.
52:14You cannot say that hundreds of Muslims, hundreds of Christians were massacred, converted, others.
52:20So Hindu by nature itself is relevant.
52:23And one more thing I would like to say.
52:25People say that this is intolerance.
52:27Gaurav, I would like to say, yes, we do not believe in tolerance because tolerance is a negative word.
52:32I do not like it, still I tolerate you.
52:34I hate you, still I can tolerate you.
52:36We do not have this concept of tolerance.
52:39We have the concept of mutual respect, which only a Hindu can have.
52:44Because with due respect to them, a Christian cannot have mutual respect to the Islam.
52:49Because according to them, after Jesus Christ, no prophet will come.
52:52So mutual respect will contradict their belief.
52:55In the same manner, that's why you will see that if you go to church, you cannot go to mosque.
53:01If you go to mosque, you cannot go to church.
53:03But in Hinduism, there is no problem.
53:05You can go to temple, you can to Jain temple, you go to Buddha Bihar, you go to Gurdwara.
53:09In the same manner, you can go to Mazar.
53:11Even if you go to church, there is no objection.
53:14So that's why there is a fundamental difference in the Hindu concept and the other concept.
53:20So Prime Minister Shri Bodhi Ji is just trying to put forth the real, actual thing, which will become a
53:29symbol for consciousness, correlation and coherence in the entire world.
53:36Yes, sir.
53:40This is a book called Hinduism, Hinduism, Hinduism, Hinduism.
53:48So, it's a line.
54:16And also, I would like to connect.
54:18Today is 11th of May.
54:19It is the day on which Pokoran explosion was done in 1998.
54:23And these same forces have criticized at the time in India.
54:27Though the fact was, it was the emergence of India.
54:31And when Barack Obama came in 2010 and addressed the Joint Section of Indian Parliament,
54:35and he said India is not emerging, India has emerged.
54:37The emergence started today on 11th of May, 1998, when India conducted nuclear tests.
54:44Very significant point you make for joining me here on this India Today special broadcast.
54:48Sudhan Shudravedi ji, many thanks.
54:49That Pokoran test also sends across another very powerful message.
54:53To protect your country, to protect your people, you need to be strong.
54:57Because when you were not strong, foreign invaders came and they tried to change our way of life.
55:03When you are militarily, economically, strategically and socially cohesive and strong,
55:09then they will not do so.
55:11And that's why military strength is very important.
