00:00I thought it was interesting that they said they went out there
00:01and did a walkthrough, just the receivers.
00:04I mean, what does that even look like,
00:05a bunch of receivers out there in the dark doing a walkthrough?
00:07That's pretty cool, though.
00:08I love the thought process of, oh, let's get some extra work in.
00:14Yeah.
00:15No, there's no doubt about it.
00:18And just to answer the shot that Allie took at me a minute ago,
00:23he's not dealing with the same set of restrictions that I was.
00:26Let's just put it that way.
00:27No, I think it's cool.
00:28And really, I think in the moment, at least,
00:31that's the attitude you have to have, right?
00:32If you're just miserable and you're in your room being an energy vampire
00:36and saying, oh, this sucks, you're not going to get the work in.
00:39You're not going to get a chance to kind of take those strides
00:41like he's talking about of getting a walkthrough
00:43and doing different things.
00:45So, yeah, it's a unique time.
00:48It really is.
00:49And, you know, you deal with situations throughout minicamp,
00:54and especially during training camp is a little bit different than minicamp
00:56because only a few days.
00:57But during training camp, like, you'll have roommates that get dinged up
01:00and injured.
01:00Like, you'll have a roommate get cut and another one show up the next day,
01:04and you're like, dang, that's kind of cold-hearted,
01:05just taking a man's bed.
01:07You'll have guys have to wake up at different times each and every morning,
01:10and, you know, one of them has to make it to a special teams meeting.
01:13One of them has to make it to treatment.
01:14One of them is going to get in the cold tub,
01:15and those golf carts are running right outside that window, you know,
01:19every five minutes.
01:19So it's just a really, really unique journey.
01:22Well, and at the same time,
01:23Kendall Daniels was talking about the experience of rookie minicamp,
01:27and he said he did feel like a kid again in the dorms.
01:30They're amazing, yeah.
01:31They're kind of, it reminded me, I told my wife,
01:33it kind of reminded me when I first went to college,
01:36being away from her and being in my own dorm room,
01:39just kind of just going in there and just watching film by myself,
01:41and it's quiet, and I'm used to living in the house.
01:43But it's been fun to be able to go back and feel like a little kid again
01:47and be a student of the game.
01:49Love it, man.
01:50Love it.
01:50He sounds like he's really, really,
01:54some guys sound really happy to be there and be a part of things,
01:58and it's easy to say, oh, everybody is, but no, some guys just ooze it.
02:03And Zachariah Branch and Kendall Daniels both kind of,
02:08it comes through hearing their voice,
02:09like how excited they are for this opportunity.
02:13After hearing one interview with Zachariah Branch,
02:16or one interview, one scrum, right, with Zachariah Branch,
02:19he literally fits everything I heard from people that I trust up at Georgia
02:23that were in and around him.
02:25Like, it gets spot on.
02:29I'm with you, man.
02:31It's somewhat of a breath of fresh air because our hopes and dreams for these guys
02:36are sky high, and you wonder how they fit into the process,
02:39and you wonder what that outlook is like.
02:40And, you know, we've spent a couple of weeks talking about them since the draft,
02:43so just to kind of hear their voices and get their outlook
02:45and see that they're excited, too.
02:47I think it's just a breath of fresh air from everybody.
02:49Yeah, and earlier we were talking about how Zachariah Branch was mentioning
02:53that Cash Jones is training as a wide receiver.
02:55When he did do this scrum, he also talked about how they would be close
02:58in a foot race.
02:59Me and Cash?
03:00Yeah.
03:00I was probably close, so, you know, he definitely has some wheels.
03:04Yeah, but we always joke around, and that's my guy.
03:06I've been trying to decide, and I brought it up earlier,
03:08I cannot decide if a move to receiver benefits him in terms of making up ground
03:15to make a roster or not.
03:17I look at our running back room, and it seems thin,
03:20and he seems to really fit a niche of being able to play special teams
03:23and doing different things.
03:24The wide receiver room has more depth, probably,
03:28but also he has a very unique skill set.
03:31All the things we've said about Zachariah Branch leading up, you know,
03:34in terms of acceleration, short area burst, and speed,
03:37he possesses all those talents as well.
03:39So maybe it's a situation where you can do a little bit of both.
03:42We talked a lot last year about Bajon cross-training
03:44and doing some wide receiver drills and things like that.
03:47Maybe that's something you try to let Cash do,
03:49but the point Bo and I have been making all along about Cash Jones
03:53is he's going to have to be very good on special teams
03:56to even have the opportunity to get his foot in the door
03:58at either one of those positions.
03:59And at 5'11", 195, he's instantly one of the taller receivers you have now
04:03that you look at everything.
04:05I mean, I think that's something that we haven't even really talked about
04:09is that the trans, and obviously it's not really necessarily
04:14the place, but the transformation of that position group has went
04:20where you had a bunch of bigger, slower-filling dudes
04:23as far as, you know, just burning,
04:26and now you've got the Zachariah Branch.
04:28Dotson's a quick guy.
04:30Olamide is quicker than people give him credit for.
04:33Cash Jones is transitioning to the receiver.
04:36He's a 4'4".
04:37I just think that when you have that kind of speed,
04:40and we've seen the guy make plays at Georgia,
04:41I mean, it's not constantly, but we've seen him make plays,
04:45you'd like to think you could find a place for a 5'11",
04:48200-pound 4'4".
04:51Like somewhere, right?
04:53And maybe that they see that as a better spot for him.
04:56And he's also, if he, now don't forget,
04:59you're always looking for guys you can do multiple things with.
05:03Cash Jones could come in and, you know,
05:06maybe he runs a Wildcat, right?
05:10Because he can come out of it because he's been in a running back.
05:13Maybe he can help block his situation.
05:15Maybe he can do an end-around or something.
05:18You can do multiple things with him.
05:21And he just screams at me,
05:23a development player that could be on the practice squad next year,
05:26wide receiver.
05:27Yeah.
05:27After this weekend, how much,
05:30I'm curious how much work is actually really getting done
05:32and how much is Kevin Stefanski and Tommy Reese and Jeff Ulbrich,
05:35how well do you think they know these guys
05:37and what they're capable of at this point?
05:38I mean, it was only one weekend,
05:40but they probably got a pretty good idea.
05:44It's hard to explain.
05:46It's, you can only really get the most up to about 50%.
05:50And what I mean is like,
05:52you can know everything about this player
05:55up to what this player is allowed to do right now.
05:57And, but that's only really 50% of the window.
05:59It's the mental side of it right now, right?
06:01You can understand that not only do they understand the playbook
06:03or they're not making mental errors,
06:04but they're also doing the things that you have to do
06:06in terms of whatever workout they're getting in
06:08or, you know,
06:09making sure they're on time for meals and things like that.
06:11Like you can get an idea of that.
06:13And first and foremost of that is the mental capacity of that.
06:15Understanding the playbook,
06:17making sure you know where to go,
06:18making sure you know where to line up at all times.
06:20But the bottom line is to answer your question,
06:23it,
06:24they won't fully know until you get into training,
06:27training camp and you put pads on and hit somebody.
06:29That's when really,
06:30because it honestly,
06:32I mean,
06:32people lose sight of this pads change technique
06:35for offensive linemen,
06:37for DBs,
06:37for anybody that's in coverage,
06:39like wearing pads actually changes technique for a lot of these guys.
06:42So you can,
06:44you can figure out everything you can up into what they are allowed to do
06:47right now.
06:47And I think that's what those guys are just driving to,
06:49to,
06:50to,
06:50you know,
06:51have a hundred percent of that.
06:52Yeah.
06:53It's,
06:54I've always thought Ricky mini count is kind of like,
06:56Hey,
06:57welcome to the league.
06:58Here's what a,
07:00you know,
07:01a helmet and shorts practice type thing is going to be like.
07:04Here's your,
07:05here's a playbook.
07:07Start like here.
07:08Here's what a meeting would be like.
07:10Right.
07:10You know,
07:11it's just kind of a,
07:12a small welcome.
07:13That's why it's when you see guys like Simon,
07:16Joshua Simon there.
07:17Uh,
07:17I think Malik Verdon was there as well.
07:20Um,
07:20you're like,
07:21what are those guys doing there?
07:22But then again,
07:24it might be,
07:25they might be there.
07:25Sometimes they're there for bodies.
07:26You know,
07:27you need an extra guy here,
07:28an extra tight end,
07:29an extra this.
07:32and it's not,
07:32and then look,
07:33it's not hurting them with it,
07:34with a new coaching staff at all,
07:36at all.
07:37Um,
07:38you know,
07:39I wanted to get Mike's,
07:41I don't want to complete doing an about face,
07:43but there was a story that came out of Carolina that Mike and I were texting about over the weekend
07:48with,
07:49uh,
07:49was it Monroe Freeling?
07:50Yeah.
07:51And he shows up and cause it's important because this is about rookie stuff.
07:55He shows up 15 pounds heavier than when he played at Georgia.
08:00And the Panthers fans are kind of,
08:03and Panthers media,
08:04Mike are kind of blowing it off as,
08:06Oh,
08:07not a big deal.
08:08Don't work that in a muscle in no time.
08:09This is the NFL.
08:11You know,
08:11they're going to be all over him.
08:13And if I'm a Carol,
08:15I guarantee you the Carolina staff is not feeling that way about it.
08:19Mike.
08:20No,
08:20they're not.
08:21Um,
08:21and Monroe Freeling,
08:22I think is one of those guys that,
08:24um,
08:24has all the ability in the world,
08:25but yeah,
08:26you're right.
08:26When you see a guy show up at 300,
08:28he's 15 pounds overweight.
08:30Um,
08:31and a lot of the responses to the tweet we were talking about,
08:34we were like,
08:34Oh,
08:34well,
08:35he's part of that NFL conditioning program.
08:36Now they're,
08:37they're obviously they've,
08:38you know,
08:38top of the line,
08:39everything,
08:39dude.
08:39If I've said it on this show once,
08:41I've said it a million times.
08:42You are the CEO of your own body in the NFL,
08:45right?
08:45That,
08:46that program thing is really great,
08:48but 15 pounds of muscle ain't happening over the course of two weeks or three weeks
08:52or whatever it is since last time he weighed in.
08:54Okay.
08:54So he'd be eating good.
08:55And if you think that suddenly that's going to turn around you,
08:58if you think as a Panthers fan,
09:01that his conditioning program and his weightlifting program is that much better than the university of Georgia under Kirby smart.
09:07I have got some extremely sour news for you.
09:11It's not,
09:12not only is it not as good,
09:13it's 100% likely to be worse than what Kirby smart is doing with these guys at Georgia.
09:17So I would be very careful about the Panthers and what the next move is,
09:21because I'm just telling you guys,
09:24when you leave a place like Georgia,
09:25you are in the greatest shape of your life.
09:27All right.
09:28And anything after that,
09:29you better be in charge of,
09:31of the direction you're going in terms of working out conditioning.
09:33Also,
09:34anybody thinks that gaining 15 pounds of muscle is automatically a good thing shows,
09:39shows,
09:39shows the intelligence that they have about that situation or that particular thing,
09:45because you know,
09:48offensive lineman,
09:49man,
09:50there might,
09:50you can speak on it like there,
09:52your agility and your,
09:53your quickness is everything is a lot of everything for an offensive line.
09:57I mean,
09:57you know,
09:58good feet,
09:59quick hands,
10:00right?
10:00Just,
10:00you know,
10:01getting back out of your stance,
10:02the stress at 15 pounds of muscle puts on 300 pounds,
10:06you know,
10:07already 310 pounds.
10:08What is he?
10:09Six,
10:09five,
10:10I think.
10:11Yeah.
10:11Not only that,
10:12but when you put on weight as an offensive lineman,
10:15you have to know where that weight's going.
10:17And if you're trying to get to the next level as an NFL offensive lineman,
10:19you need stronger hips.
10:21Stronger,
10:22you know,
10:22thighs,
10:23everything else,
10:23be able to roll people off the ball and anchor in on your past sets.
10:26Usually if I'm gaining 10 pounds of muscle,
10:29a lot of that is coming upstairs,
10:31shoulders,
10:32traps,
10:32chest,
10:33everything else like that.
10:34So you're right,
10:35man.
10:35That's,
10:35um,
10:36I was shocked when I saw that number come out of him being 15 pounds heavy.
10:40I was,
10:40I was,
10:42buddy,
10:42that's a,
10:43well,
10:43that's not only hard to do,
10:45but it's hard to do the other way too.
10:47So we'll see what happens.
