00:00The biggest story at camp, one of them,
00:02and that is what they may have found in Harold Perkins
00:05and Kevin Stefanski talking about him.
00:07You're very familiar with his history, right?
00:10So Harold Perkins burst on the scene, and Bo will remember this.
00:14Harold Perkins burst on the scene at a game against Sam Pittman
00:18at Arkansas, and he made every play all over the field.
00:23Well, Georgia played LSU in the SEC championship.
00:28There might have been a conversation between Kirby Smart
00:30and Sam Pittman about that particular individual that year.
00:34You know what Georgia did?
00:35They ran right at Harold Perkins,
00:37and he didn't have enough in the pants to handle Georgia.
00:40He got pushed all around the field.
00:42Now, he was a freshman, okay?
00:44He comes back the next year, and they swap him.
00:47They move him to, like, star position
00:49because teams started running right at him,
00:52and he was a little light in the pants at the time.
00:54Sideline to sideline, Harold Perkins might have been the best player
00:56in the country.
00:57Straight on, he had problems.
00:59That was kind of the blueprint.
01:00You better run at Harold Perkins.
01:02So Georgia did that with Marius Mills and all those guys.
01:05Tate Rattledge and all them got into him.
01:07Yeah.
01:08Then they moved him because they got nervous about that,
01:11put him out of position.
01:12Then he gets hurt his junior year, missed his entire junior year.
01:16So then he comes back, and they finally get him right back,
01:20and he's heavier as a senior, has a pretty good year.
01:23When I tell you truly, Harold Perkins' best days are ahead of him right now
01:30because of weight, and he'll be in the right position.
01:33That's what derailed him in college was them panicking
01:37and not leaving him in the same position.
01:40Yes, he was lighting the pants.
01:42Well, he was going to put on weight and stay there.
01:44They got panicked, and they moved him out of the box to try to put him
01:47in all this other stuff.
01:48So they didn't do him any favors.
01:50But when I tell you for the Falcons to get him and how much better he can be.
01:54They get him six rounds.
01:56Six rounds.
01:57Six rounds.
01:57Here's Kevin Stefanski talking about his traits for a guy his size.
02:00All shapes and sizes.
02:02And we'll use guys based on their ability.
02:06And I've been around plenty of guys that don't have the quote-unquote
02:09exact measurements that you think you want at height or length
02:13and those type of things.
02:14But he's plenty big, he's plenty fast, plenty strong,
02:17and he's got the right attitude.
02:18And we'll keep bringing him along based on what he earns
02:22over the course of these weeks.
02:24Size.
02:25That's what hurt Harold Perkins a lot.
02:27And being in the wrong position, I'm telling you right now,
02:29this dude can be good this year.
02:31This dude can be really good.
02:33He's been running with the ones at times.
02:36Here's more Kevin Stefanski essentially talking about the work he still has to do.
02:41Remains to be seen.
02:42I think for any rookie, you know, we're only however many days into this thing.
02:47So I think it's important that they keep the main thing, the main thing.
02:51I think Perk's doing a nice job of that.
02:53And then it's about earning roles.
02:55And like I've told you guys, we're not there yet.
02:58We're not handing out jobs just yet.
03:00So he's earning more reps.
03:02And then see if you can earn a role doing this.
03:05And it's the classic type of thing.
03:07The more you can do for a football team.
03:09If you can play special teams, it's a great bonus for a roster.
03:14And if you can have multiple jobs, you're not just in one position
03:21or you're not pigeonholed into one position, that gives us as a football team versatility.
03:28I think the reality is with Jalen Walker going down, with James Pierce Jr.
03:32probably looking at a suspension, I think everybody understands that we've offensively taken care of our guys.
03:37So that's Bergeron and Bijan and Drake and Kyle.
03:40And we should be fine if two is not terrible.
03:43We should be okay, fine on offense.
03:44But there has to be a couple of stories on defense, or we have no chance to win that division.
03:50There has to be a couple of stories that you and I don't even see coming.
03:53Aziz Ojalary has got to have a better year than you.
03:56Say it again.
03:57Aziz Ojalary has to have a better year.
03:59Perkins has to be a guy that can give you those third down plays, step into that role.
04:04We've got to stay healthy at positions.
04:06We can't get in a situation where we were at linebacker last year and having to play our fourth linebacker.
04:10I mean, this NFL, they'll go right after you.
04:12They won't even hide it.
04:13They will go right after J.D. Bertrand in coverage the minute he came in.
04:18Yeah, J.T. Bertrand.
04:20Troy Anderson's done.
04:21He was released.
04:22J.T. Bertrand obviously struggled mightily.
04:25Yeah, I mean, you couldn't play him and feel good about it.
04:28And they're going to have to find in the Brandon Dorliss of the world, right, of, you know, the Harold
04:37Perkins of the world.
04:38Like, you look up and you go, I don't know how that guy got five and a half sacks eight
04:41weeks in.
04:42I'm telling you, Perkins can play.
04:44He just has to be in the right mode.
04:46And his best days, man, his best days are had him.
04:49This guy can fly.
04:50Just out of position there.
04:53They didn't do him any help.
04:54Brian Kelly and those guys.
04:55How much are you looking forward just to seeing Tua under center, we hope, for a preseason game and seeing
05:03some of these young guys?
05:04I mean, we just need to see them with live bullets.
05:06And the fact, by the way, that they're tackling to the ground.
05:09Yes.
05:09They're tackling to the ground in the Atlanta Falcons.
05:12Yeah.
05:12That message, I assume, comes – there's no way they're doing that without Matt Ryan having a discussion as well.
05:18And Stefanski says maybe that's part of setting a message.
05:21That's one of the things –
05:21When you're out of the playoffs eight straight years.
05:23That's one of the things in the interview process where you go, we're tackling in fall camp.
05:27If we're not, I'm not the guy.
05:29You love that.
05:30That's not something you just pop up two weeks ago and go, hey, we're going to tackle the ground.
05:33That's part of your presentation.
05:34We're going to be physical and we're going to tackle in camp as much as you can.
05:38Now, the NFL Players Union, there's some stuff where they can't do that, all that kind of stuff sometimes.
05:43But, listen, the last couple years our quarterbacks didn't play in the preseason and we started out God awful.
05:50Okay?
05:51I don't care if it's Tua whoever.
05:52We've got to see a little bit of continuity.
05:54Give me two series and sit them down.
05:56I don't care what happens.
05:57But you've got to have some of those live Mercedes-Benz snaps Friday night.
06:02Give me some.
06:04Yeah.
06:05I just want to see what it looks like with Tua under center and Zachariah Branch running around out there.
06:12We were so nervous.
06:13We're going to give out the scheme the last two years.
06:15That worked out for us.
06:16Let's don't give a scout report on these guys.
06:18Okay.
06:19And, by the way, you know, when you want to be that stubborn, you're Raheem.
06:22Not even think about it.
06:23Not even consider it.
06:24Not even, you know, kick it around.
06:26That's what happens.
06:27You know why Kirk Cousins didn't play two years ago?
06:28Because he wasn't healthy.
06:30Yeah.
06:30Maybe you could have found that out a little bit as well.
