00:07It really feels like the DCU is finally at a point where it's ready to give some lesser-known
00:12characters their moment. And if you look at it closely, Ragman kind of fits that DC's version
00:17of Moon Knight space perfectly. That's why there's been growing talk and even some rumors
00:22that James Gunn and DC Studios could be delivering something around him.
00:26Nothing is officially confirmed yet, but the idea itself makes a lot of sense when you start
00:31connecting the dots. So it's worth diving into everything we actually know and why Ragman
00:36could end up being one of the more interesting additions to the new DCU.
00:41When Gunn first revealed the initial slate for the DCU, it was clear he wasn't trying to play
00:46things safe. Projects like Lanterns, Paradise Lost, and Booster Gold already showed a wide mix of
00:52genres, which is important because it means each story can stand on its own instead of feeling
00:57repetitive. Some lean into mystery, others into political drama, and some into straight-up
01:03character-driven storytelling. That approach gives the DCU room to experiment, and because Gunn has
01:09already proven with Peacemaker that he can take obscure or unusual characters and turn them into
01:14fan favorites, Ragman starts to feel like a natural fit for that same strategy.
01:20Ragman, originally introduced back in 1976 by Robert Kaniger and Joe Kubert, isn't exactly
01:27a mainstream superhero, which actually works in his favor. The character, whose real name
01:32is Rory Regan, has gone through multiple reinterpretations over the years. His background has shifted, his origins
01:39have been tweaked, and even his cultural identity has evolved, depending on the version. That flexibility
01:45is important because it means a live-action adaptation doesn't have to follow a rigid blueprint. Instead,
01:52it can pick and choose the elements that work best for a modern audience.
01:56There was also a reimagining in the early 90s by creators like Keith Giffen and Robert Lauren Fleming,
02:02which updated his origin and added more depth to his character.
02:06Then later, another version came along in 2017 that refined things even further. Because of all
02:12these changes, Ragman doesn't have one single fixed story that fans expect to see, and that gives Gunn
02:19and his team a lot of creative freedom. Even though he's appeared in live-action before on Arrow,
02:24that version barely scratched the surface of what the character can actually be. That's where the
02:29comparison to Moon Knight comes in, because on paper, the similarities are pretty clear.
02:35Both characters have military backgrounds, both deal with voices or influences inside their heads,
02:41and both are tied to mystical powers that go beyond typical superhero abilities. But even though those
02:47similarities exist, Ragman has his own identity, and the DCU could easily take him in a completely
02:53different direction. One of the biggest things that sets Ragman apart is the suit of souls. It's not
02:59just a costume, it's literally made up of the souls of criminals and enemies he's defeated over time.
03:05That means every piece of the suit carries a history, and those souls can influence him,
03:10guide him, or even haunt him. It gives him access to different abilities, knowledge, and strength,
03:16but it also creates a constant internal conflict. That concept alone is strong enough to carry an entire
03:23series, because it blends action with psychological and supernatural elements. And when you look at the
03:29broader DCU plans, it's clear that supernatural storytelling is going to play a bigger role.
03:35With projects like the Brave and the Bold introducing characters connected to figures,
03:40like Ra's al Ghul, and concepts like the Lazarus Pit, and even something like Swamp Thing being part of the
03:45slate, the groundwork is already there. Ragman could easily fit into that world because his entire
03:51story is built around mysticism and ancient forces. At the same time, there's another angle that could
03:58make a Ragman series stand out, and that's leaning into a spy thriller structure. Gunn already explored
04:04parts of that genre in Peacemaker, but Ragman could take it further. If you draw inspiration from
04:10the Bourne identity, you get a completely different kind of story. Instead of introducing Rory Regan
04:16as a fully formed hero, you could start with him waking up with no memory, slowly realizing he has
04:22these strange abilities and trying to figure out who he really is. That kind of setup works because it
04:28pulls the audience into the mystery. You're not just watching a hero fight villains, you're watching
04:33someone piece together their own identity. And because Ragman isn't widely known, the show could even
04:39play with the idea that he might not be a hero at all. Maybe the clues he finds suggest he's
04:45done
04:45questionable things in the past. So there's this constant uncertainty about whether he's on the
04:50right side. If the story goes that route, it could expand into something bigger. Imagine an eight-episode
04:57series where Rory is being hunted from all sides, not just by criminals, but also by government agencies,
05:03secret organizations, and even other heroes. Groups like the Legion of Doom or even the Justice League
05:09could be part of that chase, which raises the stakes even more. And then, over time,
05:14the truth could come out that he was actually working undercover the whole time, possibly sent
05:19by Batman to infiltrate dangerous groups. Beyond the action and mystery, there's also an important
05:25cultural layer to Ragman that the DCU could explore. Rory Regan's story is deeply tied to Jewish
05:31heritage, and that's not just a background detail, it's central to his identity. The mythology behind his
05:37powers connects to Jewish folklore, including elements like the Golem of Prague. That gives
05:43the character a unique foundation that hasn't really been explored much in superhero media.
05:48His family history, especially stories involving fleeing war-torn Europe and starting over in places
05:54like Gotham, adds another level of depth. It opens the door to telling stories about immigration,
06:00survival, and cultural identity, all while still delivering a superhero narrative.
06:05That kind of storytelling can make the series feel more grounded, even though it's dealing
06:09with supernatural concepts. Another thing worth pointing out is how rare it is to see Jewish
06:15characters portrayed as action heroes on screen. Most of the time, they're associated with comedy or
06:21side roles, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it does create a gap. Ragman has the potential to fill
06:27that gap by being both a complex and cool lead character, which could make him stand out in a
06:33crowded genre. Even when you look at other attempts, like Moon Knight, the representation
06:38wasn't explored as deeply as it could have been, so this is an opportunity for DC to approach it
06:43differently and give it the attention it deserves. Right now, with the industry starting to move forward
06:49again after delays like the writer's strike, more announcements from Gunn are expected.
06:54So even though a Ragman project hasn't been officially confirmed, it wouldn't be surprising
06:59if something like that shows up in the future. The character's flexibility makes him easy to
07:04integrate into different parts of the DCU, whether it's through a standalone series or connections to
07:09other projects. At the end of the day, Ragman represents the kind of character that could benefit the
07:15most from the direction the DCU is heading. He's not tied down by expectations, his story can be
07:20adapted in multiple ways, and he brings a mix of genres that could keep things fresh. Whether it
07:26leans more into supernatural horror, spy thriller elements, or character-driven drama, there's a lot
07:32of potential there. So even though it's still in the rumor stage, the idea of a Ragman project
07:37doesn't feel random at all. It actually lines up with everything Gunn has been trying to do so far,
07:43which is to take risks, explore new ideas, and build a universe where every character has a
07:48chance to stand out. And that wraps up today's video. If you want to stay in the loop with all
