00:07There's been a bunch of talk going around lately about Marvel possibly bringing Azazel
00:12into the MCU, and it feels like one of those ideas that could actually work really well
00:17if they handle it the right way.
00:19The rumors suggest that Marvel Studios is exploring the character for upcoming projects,
00:24and there's even speculation that they might cast a completely new actor for the role.
00:29That alone makes things interesting because it shows they're not just copying what came
00:34before but trying to build something fresh.
00:36And because the MCU is slowly introducing more mutant-related storylines, this might be
00:42the perfect time to bring in someone like Azazel, who sits right at the intersection of
00:46X-Men lore, dark mythology, and complex character relationships.
00:51One of the biggest reasons Azazel matters is because of his connection to Nightcrawler and
00:56Mystique.
00:57Even though that relationship has been handled very differently depending on the version
01:01of the story.
01:03In the Fox X-Men movies, there were hints that Azazel could be Nightcrawler's father, especially
01:08since Mystique and Azazel had some level of interaction in X-Men First Class.
01:13But it was never clearly confirmed, so it just kind of stayed as a loose thread that never
01:18got fully explored.
01:19And because of that, it always felt like there was something missing from Nightcrawler's backstory
01:25in those films.
01:26But in the comics, things are way more layered and honestly a bit more surprising because
01:31Nightcrawler's origin was eventually redefined.
01:34Instead of Azazel being his father, it was revealed that Mystique and Destiny were actually
01:39his parents, with Mystique shape-shifting to make that possible.
01:43That twist added a whole new dimension to the character, especially because it tied into themes
01:48of identity, family, and acceptance in a much deeper way.
01:52Even though Azazel was once believed to be part of that story, the retcon changed how
01:57fans look at his role in Nightcrawler's life.
02:00Now this is where the MCU has a real opportunity, because it can choose which direction to take.
02:06It could revisit the Azazel connection and actually explore it properly this time, or it could
02:11lean into the newer comic storyline and do something more unique.
02:15And with projects like Avengers Doomsday or even something on the scale of a Secret Wars
02:20storyline, there's room to introduce these relationships gradually instead of rushing
02:25them.
02:26There's also been talk that characters like Mystique and Nightcrawler could appear in these
02:31big crossover events, which makes the timing even better.
02:34If they're already bringing those characters into the story, it would make sense to at least
02:39hint at Azazel's existence, even if he doesn't show up right away.
02:43That kind of slow build could add tension, because it gives the audience something to look forward
02:48to while also expanding the world in a natural way.
02:52And then there's the casting rumors, which are always fun to think about.
02:56One name that keeps popping up is Dacre Montgomery, and even though nothing is confirmed, it's
03:01easy to see why people are talking about him.
03:04He has the screen presence to play someone intense and unpredictable, and Azazel definitely
03:09needs that kind of energy.
03:11This isn't just a standard villain role, it's a character who needs to feel dangerous, mysterious,
03:17and a little unsettling all at the same time.
03:20If Marvel does go in that direction, they could make Azazel stand out by leaning into his
03:25darker, almost supernatural vibe.
03:28In the comics, he's not just another mutant with basic powers, he's tied to something
03:32much bigger and much stranger.
03:35He comes from a group known as the Nayafim, and they were banished to the brimstone dimension,
03:40which already sounds like something straight out of a dark fantasy story.
03:44Because of that, Azazel often gets mistaken for a literal demon, even though he's technically
03:50a mutant.
03:51That mix of science fiction and supernatural elements is what makes him so interesting,
03:56because it blurs the line between different genres.
03:59The MCU has already started exploring more mystical concepts, so bringing in a character
04:04like Azazel wouldn't feel out of place anymore.
04:07In fact, it could actually help connect some of those threads, especially if they want to
04:12expand into more cosmic or multiversal storytelling.
04:15His abilities also make him a serious threat, even though he's not classified as an Omega
04:21level mutant.
04:22He can teleport, control minds, unleash powerful energy attacks, and even tap into some magical
04:28abilities.
04:29That combination makes him unpredictable because you never really know what he's going
04:33to do next.
04:34And because he's also very manipulative, he tends to play the long game, setting up plans
04:39that unfold over time instead of just jumping into fights.
04:43One of his main goals has often been to create links between Earth and the brimstone dimension,
04:48which is where things get really dangerous.
04:51To do that, he fathers children who can act as connections between worlds, which is a pretty
04:56dark concept when you think about it.
04:58It shows how far he's willing to go to achieve his objectives, and it also adds a layer of complexity
05:04to his relationships with other characters.
05:07Even though he's caused a lot of chaos over the years, Azazel's story isn't completely
05:12one-dimensional.
05:13There have been moments where he's been given a chance at redemption, like when he was allowed
05:18to live on Krakoa alongside other mutants.
05:21But even then, he tends to gravitate toward darker groups and storylines, which makes sense
05:27because that's where his character feels most at home.
05:29When it comes to live-action appearances, most people remember him from X-Men First Class,
05:35where he was played by Jason Fleming.
05:38Visually, that version was pretty accurate to the comics, with the red skin, the tail,
05:43and the teleportation effects all looking great on screen.
05:47His powers were shown in a really dynamic way, especially during action scenes, so in terms
05:53of style that version got a lot right.
05:55But the downside was that he didn't get much depth as a character.
05:59He mostly acted as a henchman for Sebastian Shaw and the Hellfire Club, which meant he didn't
06:05have many personal moments or a clear storyline of his own.
06:09And even though he was part of some great action sequences, it still felt like the character
06:14was underused overall.
06:16That's why a new version in the MCU could be so exciting, because they have the chance to
06:21go beyond that and actually explore who Azazel is.
06:24They could dive into his origins, his motivations, and his connections to other characters in
06:30a way that wasn't possible before.
06:32And because the MCU tends to build characters over multiple appearances, they wouldn't have
06:37to rush it.
06:38Now, if we look at bigger crossover possibilities, like Avengers Doomsday or a Secret Wars-style
06:44event, Azazel could play a really interesting role.
06:48He doesn't have to be the main villain, but he could act as a wild card, someone whose actions
06:53influenced the story in unexpected ways.
06:57Because of his connection to other dimensions, he could even be involved in opening portals
07:01or causing disruptions that lead into larger conflicts.
07:05And that's where things get really exciting, because it means Azazel could be part of something
07:10much bigger than just a single storyline.
07:12He could connect different parts of the MCU, from the X-Men to the mystical side to even
07:18multiversal elements.
07:20That kind of flexibility makes him a valuable character to introduce at this stage.
07:25At the same time, Marvel has to be careful about how they present him, because there's
07:30a balance to maintain.
07:31If they lean too heavily into the demon imagery without explanation, it could feel confusing.
07:37But if they ground it in the mutant mythology while still keeping that dark tone, it could
07:42work really well.
07:44It's all about finding that middle ground where the character feels both believable and unique.
07:49So when you put all of this together, it feels like Azazel is one of those characters
07:53who could really benefit from a second chance in live action.
07:57The groundwork is already there from the comics, the interest is clearly there from fans, and
08:03the current direction of the MCU makes it possible to explore his story in a way that feels fresh
08:08and meaningful.
