NASA Space Recordings — Real Sounds From Black Holes and Planets
Using a process called sonification, NASA converts real electromagnetic signals from space into audio. Black holes, Jupiter, Saturn, and the Sun all produce signals that become deeply unsettling sounds when translated into the human hearing range. Muslim Space Agency explains the science and connects it to the Quranic description of all creation glorifying Allah. Educational content combining real space science with Islamic perspective.

00:00NASA has recorded sounds from deep space that scientists themselves describe as haunting, eerie, and deeply unsettling.
00:08These are not made up.
00:10They are real signals converted into audio.
00:13And what you are about to hear described will change how you think about the universe.
00:17Space is a vacuum.
00:19Sound cannot travel through it.
00:22But electromagnetic waves, plasma vibrations, and pressure waves absolutely can.
00:28NASA's sonification program converts these real signals into audio frequencies human ears can detect.
00:35What they captured is extraordinary.
00:38The black hole at the center of the Perseus galaxy cluster produces pressure waves that, when converted to sound, create
00:45a deep, continuous groaning.
00:47Described by listeners as something enormous breathing in the dark, this sound has been traveling through space for millions of
00:54years.
00:55Jupiter's magnetic field captures charged particles from the solar wind and converts them into radio waves.
01:03When sonified, the result is an eerie, shifting, almost electronic shriek, like something alive and enormous calling out into space.
01:12Saturn's rings interact with its magnetic field to produce whistling, crackling sounds, like a storm that never ends.
01:20The Voyager spacecraft recorded these signals as it passed through the outer solar system in the 1980s.
01:27Scientists were not prepared for how structured and complex they were.
01:31The sun itself, our own star, produces a constant low-frequency hum from plasma oscillations on its surface.
01:40Converted to audio, it sounds like a slow, enormous heartbeat.
01:44The Quran says in Surah al-Isra, chapter 17, verse 44,
01:50And I translate the meaning.
01:52The seven heavens and the earth and all that is within them glorify Him.
01:57There is not a single thing except that it glorifies His praise, but you do not understand their glorification.
02:03Every object in the universe is producing something, a signal, a vibration, a sound that science is only now beginning
02:12to translate.
02:13The universe has always been speaking.
02:16We just built the tools to start listening.
