00:069-1-1, what is the address of your emergency?
00:08Last night, I went down there and some guy was putting a blanket over a body.
00:12Yeah, this guy's not moving.
00:14This attack was violent.
00:17It's like having my worst nightmare come true.
00:21We start to look immediately for any surveillance cameras.
00:26There's probably blood on this.
00:29We're in a race against time to find this person as quickly as possible.
01:06Tony he had a lot of love to give Tony met his wife they had a couple of kids
01:15and he was really good father he loved spending time with him he was a fun dad
01:24just kind of the kind that's you know threw the kids up in the air all the
01:26time and ran outside with them there wasn't a kid that didn't love them
01:32just about every picture ever taken of them it was always him holding the babies
01:38that's the happiest it ever been
01:45but my brother had a hard time with his mental health and his depression did start to get a lot
01:52more noticeable we tried to get him into counseling and tried to get him on meds and
02:00he just he refused to do it he said mom if I try to get that help that means I'm
02:09gonna have to admit
02:10to myself I'm broken and I just can't do that when he and his wife ended up splitting up it
02:17was really
02:18really hard on him hi I hope you can help I'm looking for my son we had no idea where
02:26he went as a family
02:28we were trying everything we could to try to find him we would try to you know contact him through
02:35email or messenger on Facebook but he pretty much literally dropped off the face of the earth for us
02:44every day there's always that constant fear that something was gonna happen to him
02:57nine one one what is the address of your emergency
03:00last night I'm on the fourth floor I went down there and some guy was putting a blanket over a
03:05body
03:05and it's still there and the body never moves okay one second for me here
03:10we're just yelling stop stop yeah this guy's not moving
03:15All right, the officer should be arriving in a minute now, okay?
03:24The responding officers, they found the victim down on the sidewalk.
03:33Unresponsive?
03:34Yeah, EMS rolling.
03:35He had severe trauma to his head and face.
03:39He was having difficulty breathing.
03:44He was identified by an ID that was in his pocket.
03:48The victim was James Tony Wise.
03:52Tony Wise was transferred to the hospital.
04:01Arrived around 7.30 in the morning.
04:05At this time, officers had the scene taped off, trying to separate witnesses.
04:10And preserving the crime scene.
04:13When we arrived, we filmed crime scenes to capture and document the evidence.
04:21There was an opening to a fence to a parking lot.
04:24That's where Tony Wise was located.
04:28This must be where the assault took place.
04:31There was a pool of blood.
04:33I saw some other items that were kind of strewed upon the ground.
04:38There was a metal scooter.
04:42Pink pepper spray.
04:45There was a tent that was kind of smashed down to the ground.
04:50Did you know Tony Wise?
04:52Okay.
04:53We had spoken to a witness out at the scene who told us they were familiar with Tony Wise.
05:00That witness identified his tent and said that he had been in that area for some time.
05:07Take this out over here.
05:09We were able to see that there were shoe impressions on the tent that appeared to be in blood.
05:16If we could locate that shoe, that was potentially going to be a key piece of evidence for us down
05:23the road.
05:25It definitely stood out of something that was a pretty violent attack.
05:29We were wondering what could have been the motive to what happened.
05:34Detectives contact Marcus Dayton, the 911 caller who witnessed the attack from his apartment.
05:43This is Detective Greenland with the Foreign Police Bureau.
05:46Thanks for taking my call.
05:47So if you can just kind of start from the beginning.
05:50You're in your residence there?
05:51It's 4 o'clock in the morning and I'm on that side of the street, my window.
05:55Marcus Dayton looked down to the street below his unit, out to 3rd Avenue.
06:01And all of a sudden I see this guy, like, leasing himself off the fence and then coming down with
06:06his leg, you know, stomping on something.
06:09He sees the suspect hitting and kicking what he thought initially was maybe a bag of trash.
06:15But this person was using the fence and stomping another person's head extremely violently.
06:23The guy that you see, let's describe him.
06:26How much does he weigh?
06:31He gave a very good description of the clothing that was unique.
06:43He also described him as having white shoes.
06:47After the assault ended, he observed the suspect walking southbound on Northwest 3rd Avenue, where he loses sight of the
07:02suspect.
07:03This person was definitely a danger to the public and we needed to locate and arrest this person as soon
07:10as we can.
07:15Investigators enlist forensic evidence technician Mark Weber to find cameras that might show the attack.
07:22I went to the ODOT building, we're in the Department of Transportation to get video.
07:26They have a lot of exterior cameras that help cover the streets in that area.
07:31The building itself is one block directly east of the crime scene.
07:36There was one camera angle on the ODOT building that pointed straight across that parking lot.
07:43Right in the area where Tony's tent was.
07:46I was hoping they could show the crime scene and show the attack.
07:54Officer Weber brings the footage to the police bureau for analysis.
08:05This view, which covers this entire parking lot, but it's so far away, you're going to watch it as carefully
08:11as you can.
08:13This looks like the area where Mr. Wise was attacked.
08:18Let's go to 4 a.m. just before the 911 call.
08:27So looking at the frame, I'm really focusing right around Mr. Wise's tent and in the area where I know
08:35the pool of blood was located.
08:49Wait.
08:50Who's that?
09:01I see a figure walk towards the direction of where Mr. Wise's tent was.
09:11And then I also see another figure also come into frame as well.
09:16And it looks like then the two figures kind of interact.
09:20Something's happening.
09:31It looked like there was a physical altercation that occurred between the two persons.
09:41And at one point in time, a person is knocked to the ground.
09:47The suspect continued to kick and punch while the victim was on the ground.
09:52Unfortunately, now there's a tree that kind of blocks some of the view.
10:07The 9-1-1 caller describes this subject to be wearing lighter colored pants and a darker colored top.
10:17There's light pants.
10:18There's light pants.
10:19That's got to be our suspect.
10:25And that's Tony Wise.
10:28The video shows the interaction between the suspect and the victim.
10:32And it actually kind of seconds what we heard from witnesses.
10:37It looks like the altercation happens rather quickly.
10:40You could tell the fight was a violent fight just based on the person getting knocked down.
10:46It appeared that there was only two people involved.
10:50The biggest drawback about this camera was that it was from far away.
10:55It was hard to positively ID the people.
11:02Investigators search for surveillance cameras that are closer to the crime scene.
11:09We should be able to find him on other video for the projected time of our homicide.
11:15The attack happened in front of the Blanche house.
11:20There's one camera on the building point north.
11:26And there was one camera pointed south.
11:34Investigators analyzed the footage from both cameras.
11:38All right, can you start about a half hour for the first 911 call?
11:47The camera angle that we're observing here is facing to the south.
11:52To the left is the parking lot that's fenced off.
11:56And you only capture the top portion of that.
12:00Zoom in.
12:04We start watching the video at approximately 3.50 a.m.
12:09We notice where Mr. Weiss's tent is,
12:12that that portion is not captured in this camera frame.
12:17But we were hoping that this camera might have captured maybe our suspect coming to the scene.
12:24Wait.
12:26Who's that?
12:28Who's that?
12:34At approximately 3.56, 20 minutes prior to this incident being called into the police,
12:41we observed a subject on the sidewalk.
12:47It does look like he was kind of loitering.
12:56Freeze it there.
12:58Zoom in on him.
13:04It's difficult to make out facial characteristics of the person.
13:07But he's wearing lighter pants and what appear to be white shoes.
13:13Which is consistent with the description Marcus Dayton provided us.
13:22Let's try the north camera, a minute or two beforehand, see where he came from.
13:32There was another camera angle that faced right at the intersection of 3rd and Gleason.
13:48Play that again.
13:51Zoom in on him.
13:57Freeze it there.
14:01At 3.55 a.m. on the north camera, we observed the subject that we had seen on the south
14:08camera.
14:09That's got to be him.
14:12You could tell that the jacket the person is wearing is a two-tone jacket.
14:16It kind of gives him away.
14:19This is a big moment because then we're seeing some cooperation on video
14:23that kind of matches what our 911 caller is describing.
14:27We didn't get a good shot of his face.
14:28This was during COVID.
14:30So he was wearing a face mask at the time.
14:38We see the suspect, he speaks with someone at the northwest corner of the intersection
14:44at Gleason and 3rd Avenue.
14:46Then I can see that our suspect walking back southbound towards the direction of our scene.
14:53Putting him directly in the path of Mr. Weiss' tent, which is just off camera.
14:59We still don't know who our suspect is.
15:03But we have a better idea of his movement throughout the scene
15:07to start looking at different cameras in the area.
15:14Detective Clifton.
15:17Okay.
15:18I see.
15:20Okay.
15:21Bye.
15:24That was the hospital.
15:25It looks like he's not going to make it.
15:29We're notified that Mr. Weiss is not going to survive his injuries.
15:34It was severe skull fractures that Tony Weiss received.
15:39That's his mother's number.
15:51Hello?
15:52I kind of knew right then before he went any further
15:55that it was something about my son.
15:59And it was like having my worst nightmare come true.
16:04Where is he?
16:07Okay.
16:09I needed to be with him
16:12to say goodbye as good as I could.
16:24When I saw him,
16:28I just kept telling him over and over.
16:31I love you, son.
16:33I love you so much.
16:37But he couldn't hear it.
16:39At least, you know,
16:40I was able to hold his hand
16:43and tell him goodbye.
16:45And I would see him in another life.
16:50Tony dies from his injuries
16:52the following day.
16:58It turns into a homicide investigation at that point.
17:02We want to bring justice to the family
17:05and know that this person's being held accountable
17:08for their actions.
17:18Detective Greenlee and I are on scene
17:20getting briefings from the responding officers.
17:25We learn that another assault
17:28had occurred earlier in the morning.
17:31So, there was another assault
17:33just around the corner.
17:34What?
17:35Yeah.
17:36The officer tells investigators
17:38that the assault happened around 2.55 a.m.,
17:4180 minutes before the attack on Tony Wise.
17:47And it was a block across
17:49from where Mr. Wise had been assaulted.
17:52We don't know if they were connected,
17:54but it was definitely odd.
17:56It was very similar to the attack on Mr. Wise.
17:59A witness called 911 to report the incident.
18:06911, what is the address for the emergency?
18:08I am right in front of the Chinese garden downtown.
18:12There's this man that was, like,
18:14really brutally beat up,
18:16and he's, like, passed out on the side of his car.
18:20And he's, like, really bloody.
18:21I don't think he's conscious.
18:23What's the color inside the vehicle?
18:25It's a white Mercedes Benz.
18:29What stood out to us
18:30was the witnesses describing the suspect
18:32also kind of kicking and stomping the victim.
18:36And the victim also had severe injuries to his face.
18:41The victim of the assault is Tembalani Deniso.
18:47How many people assaulted him?
18:49It was, like, two guys.
18:52What about the victim?
18:54I learned from Officer Garth
18:55that he interviewed the victim, Mr. Deniso, at the hospital.
18:59He couldn't remember any of it.
19:01He was unable to provide much of a statement
19:03as to what occurred because of the head injury.
19:08The Mercedes Benz was currently still located at the scene.
19:14So we take a look.
19:23We saw a significant amount of blood on the vehicle.
19:28Some of our criminalists document the scene in photographs
19:31and collect blood evidence as well.
19:35With Tony Wise and another victim, Mr. Deniso,
19:39the similarities stood out.
19:42But we just didn't have much information
19:44on what could have been the motive
19:45connecting these two incidents.
19:47Tony Wise was homeless,
19:49and now we have another victim
19:51with a vehicle, a Mercedes Benz.
19:53You have a person just randomly assaulting
19:56and attacking people downtown.
19:58It's very unusual.
20:04We'd start looking for surveillance video cameras
20:07in that area that we can capture this assault
20:10and see if it matches up with the suspect
20:13that we had seen at the Blanchet house.
20:17Right at the corner there
20:19is the trailhead credit union.
20:21We observed the credit union there
20:23to have an exterior surveillance camera
20:25that we believe captures that intersection
20:27and ultimately that first assault.
20:35Investigators review the footage
20:37back at the police bureau.
20:39Can you go to 2.30 a.m.
20:42to see if we can spot the vehicle?
20:49We're looking for a white Mercedes.
20:53There's a lot of lighting there,
20:55so you can see everything in color.
20:58The video doesn't come out grainy.
21:01There was a good camera
21:02that picked up the intersection.
21:04I'm really looking,
21:06can I place Mr. Deniso's vehicle there?
21:14There, that's it.
21:17At 2.42 hours on the camera,
21:20we observed Deniso's white Mercedes
21:23driving northbound on Northwest 2nd Avenue.
21:29You can see the brake lights illuminate
21:31and pull along the west curb line.
21:37I'm just trying to understand
21:38what led up to this assault
21:40that took place at the vehicle.
21:47Who's that?
21:54About 2.50, 3 hours,
21:57I see a person walking,
21:58kind of looking at his phone,
22:00and he's walking northbound
22:01towards the direction of Mr. Deniso's vehicle.
22:08Hang on, who's this?
22:11Please, let me.
22:14The person walking behind
22:16is wearing a kind of a darker shirt,
22:18but his pants were of a light color
22:20and is wearing white shoes.
22:21That stood out to me.
22:24But it also looked like
22:25he was carrying an object in his hand
22:26that looked like a jacket.
22:33Zoom in on that.
22:36As they walked towards the vehicle,
22:38I could see it almost looked like
22:40the door was ajar at one point.
22:52It's so far away,
22:54you can't see clearly
22:56what exactly happens.
22:57You can see movement.
22:59The one gentleman's white pants,
23:01kind of, you can see it moving,
23:02but you can't really tell what's going on.
23:05We're really looking closely.
23:07It looks like there's a physical disturbance,
23:10a fight that happens at the vehicle.
23:12That must be the same.
23:16Keep playing it?
23:17Mm-hmm.
23:21They come walking back,
23:23facing the cameras,
23:24with nice bright lights.
23:26We get to see everything
23:27as they're walking toward us.
23:29Look, he's wearing the jacket.
23:33That's our man.
23:36Looking at what he's wearing,
23:38a jacket with the leather along the sides,
23:42it was consistent to the attack on Mr. Wise.
23:46So I believe this was the same person.
23:50The one gentleman was wearing a mask.
23:52We can't really see this face.
23:54He's in there.
23:57Can you zoom in on the shoes?
23:59Mm-hmm.
24:02You can see blood on the shoes.
24:05You can very plainly see it.
24:08I believe this was blood
24:10that was from the attack with Mr. Deniso.
24:14This is definitely our guy.
24:22So we have our suspect at 2.59.
24:25It's within just a few blocks
24:27and an hour and a half
24:29before Mr. Wise is assaulted.
24:33When they walk off to the south,
24:35that was also the same direction
24:36where Tony Wise had been murdered.
24:40But there wasn't a clear connection
24:42between both the attacks.
24:44So we didn't have a clear motive at this time.
24:47Zoom in on the other guy.
24:52This other person that's with our suspect,
24:55he's a high priority for us as well
24:58at this point to identify.
25:02As officers search for the suspects,
25:05investigators meet with Tony's family.
25:09The detective in charge was really nice.
25:13He seemed to really care
25:14if they found out who did it.
25:17Which surprised me because
25:19a lot of times when somebody's homeless,
25:21they don't seem to get any attention.
25:24Can you think of anyone
25:25who might have done this to Tony?
25:27Tony's family had no idea
25:29who this person is
25:31that committed this offense.
25:33We just tried to get an understanding
25:35of what prompted this attack,
25:37kind of the motive behind it.
25:39I want to assure you
25:39that we're doing everything we can
25:41to find who did this.
25:43If you know anything,
25:45we'll let you know.
25:51Investigators review additional footage
25:52from the trailhead credit union.
25:54They traced the suspect's movements
25:56following the attack on Mr. Deniso.
26:02At the entrance to the credit union,
26:04there's a recessed alcove area
26:07where there's a camera.
26:13There he is.
26:17About 342, I observed our suspect.
26:20He was no longer with the male observed previous
26:23with the attack on Mr. Deniso.
26:25He was walking towards the ATM machine.
26:28So I bring up that camera.
26:36And I see a white female
26:38kind of wearing a pinkish color jacket,
26:40almost like a kind of plastic shower cap
26:43on her head
26:44and an unknown male.
26:51I then see our suspect
26:53come into the frame of the ATM.
26:57It's nice and clean and crisp.
26:59And it lets us see our suspect
27:01in full light.
27:03You could really get a clear image
27:05of kind of the T-shirt
27:06that he's wearing underneath,
27:08the jacket,
27:09and that he's wearing glasses.
27:15We see that they're both interacting
27:17like they know each other.
27:21What are they doing?
27:24Seems like they're pushing,
27:27trying to get money out of the machine.
27:29At one point,
27:30it looks like the female gets frustrated.
27:37Whoa.
27:38Then also a moment
27:40that the suspect looks like
27:41he gets frustrated
27:42at the machine as well
27:43and he punches the machine.
27:46When he punches the ATM,
27:48it seems like he punched the ATM
27:50with a lot of force.
27:52You could tell that
27:53something disturbed him
27:54or angered him at this point.
27:57This is maybe 15 minutes
27:59before the actual homicide attack
28:01at Tony's tent.
28:03Is this guy going to strike
28:04somewhere else?
28:05We're going to race against time
28:07to find this person
28:08as quickly as possible.
28:11Looking at the video
28:12that we obtained
28:13from the credit union,
28:14that was probably
28:15our clearest image
28:16that we had of the suspect.
28:17So I did a screen capture
28:19and then I distributed that
28:20through police channels
28:22to see if they recognized
28:23the person as well.
28:27Meanwhile,
28:28Connie searches for someone
28:29who can tell her
28:30about Tony's last days.
28:34The police told me
28:36where he had been staying.
28:37I wanted so badly
28:39to know what was
28:40going on with him.
28:42Did they know
28:43if he was trying
28:44to get back in touch
28:46with his family?
28:48Did you know my son,
28:49Tony Blass?
28:51No.
28:52There was somebody
28:54that worked at the shelter
28:56and there was
28:58a handwritten note
28:59in there
29:00that said,
29:01thank you
29:02for being who you are.
29:04I really appreciate you.
29:06You're a good person
29:08and you're my angel.
29:11They said it was
29:12from one of the other
29:13homeless people
29:15that they had given
29:16to Tony.
29:18Tony was living
29:19in a shelter
29:19and he had a job
29:21in there.
29:21He cared a lot
29:23for the people
29:24out there.
29:25It wouldn't surprise
29:26me a bit
29:27if somebody just
29:28really appreciated him.
29:31I would have given
29:33anything
29:33to have him back.
29:40Investigators
29:41traced the suspect's
29:42movements
29:42after Tony Wise's
29:44murder.
29:45Start a little
29:46after for you.
29:49The suspect
29:51headed south
29:51after he attacked
29:53Tony.
29:56Detectives

29:58camera footage
29:59from the likely
30:00route he walked.
30:06There he is.
30:10I see
30:11our suspect
30:12walking along
30:13Northwest First Avenue
30:15to a staircase
30:16which will lead
30:18up to
30:18West Burnside Street.
30:22Freeze it there.
30:25Zoom in.
30:30His shoes.
30:32You can see
30:33the blood
30:34on his shoes.
30:35It's the same person.
30:38Keep playing.
30:45then I can see
30:46him walking
30:47up the staircase.
30:49Bring up the camera
30:50in West Burnside.
30:54So then I
30:55look at additional
30:56cameras
30:57that captured
30:58West Burnside Street.
31:04there he is.
31:06And I observed
31:08the suspect
31:08then walk
31:09westbound
31:10towards the direction
31:11of the shoreline.
31:13The shoreline
31:14is transitional
31:15housing for people
31:16that have been
31:17released
31:17recently
31:18from prison.
31:20He appears
31:21to enter
31:22the front entrance
31:23of the shoreline.
31:25I was just like
31:26holy cow
31:27I know
31:28where this guy
31:28lives.
31:30Investigators
31:30send images
31:31of the suspect
31:32to local parole
31:33officers
31:33to see
31:34if they
31:34recognize him.
31:40And we received
31:41a call
31:42from
31:42Multnomah County
31:43Probation Officer
31:44Paula Feta
31:46who explained
31:47to us
31:47that she
31:48recognized
31:49the person
31:49as being
31:50Elijah Williams.
31:54What can you
31:55tell me
31:56about Elijah?
31:57She explains
31:58to us
31:58that
31:59Elijah Williams
32:00was incarcerated
32:01for a period
32:02of time
32:02for a sexual
32:03assault
32:04on the minor.
32:04And this
32:05is now
32:05living at
32:06the shoreline
32:06as kind
32:07of a
32:07transitional
32:07housing
32:08upon being
32:09released.
32:10It all
32:11made sense.
32:13The shoreline
32:14is literally
32:14five blocks
32:16from where
32:16Tony Weiss
32:17was murdered.
32:21On February
32:2219th
32:23we established
32:24surveillance
32:24at the shoreline.
32:26Our plan
32:26was to locate
32:27Mr. Williams
32:28away from
32:29the apartment
32:30take him
32:30into custody
32:31safely
32:32and execute
32:33the search
32:33warrant
32:34at his
32:34residence.
32:36One of our
32:37detectives
32:37observed
32:38Mr. Williams
32:39leave the shoreline.
32:40He got
32:41on a
32:41TriMet bus
32:46and we
32:47followed him.
32:51And once
32:52he was in
32:54a position
32:54that was safe
32:55we took him
32:56into custody.
32:59now we need
33:01to understand
33:01why this
33:02thing happened.
33:09We entered
33:11Elijah Williams'
33:12apartment
33:12and we
33:13recover this
33:14jacket.
33:15We recover
33:16the pants.
33:17We recover
33:18the glasses.
33:20We also
33:21saw a pair
33:22of white
33:23shoes.
33:24This was
33:25very important
33:25evidence
33:26because we
33:26knew now
33:27that we
33:27had the
33:27shoes that
33:28were used
33:29during the
33:29assault.
33:30They matched
33:31the impressions
33:32observed
33:32previously on
33:33the tent.
33:37DNA confirmation
33:38determined that
33:40Tony Weiss'
33:41DNA was
33:41on the
33:42shoes.
33:44Luminol revealed
33:45that there was
33:46blood on the
33:47carpet at the
33:48entryway of
33:48Elijah Williams'
33:50room.
33:51They used
33:52Luminol on the
33:52bathroom sink
33:53as well.
33:54We're 100%
33:55confident that
33:56we've got the
33:56right guy and
33:58he's the person
33:58that's murdered
33:59Tony Weiss.
34:01Inside the
34:02apartment we
34:03located what
34:04we believed
34:05to be
34:05steroids.
34:06You hear the
34:07phrase
34:08droid rage
34:09or things of
34:10that nature.
34:11That might
34:12have factored
34:13into why he
34:13acted the way
34:14he did.
34:19Elijah Williams
34:20is transported
34:21back to the
34:22detective division
34:23downtown Portland.
34:26First,
34:26detectives ask
34:27Williams about
34:28the assault on
34:29Mr. Deniso.
34:31There was a
34:31fight.
34:32Someone called
34:33it in early
34:34morning hours
34:35on the 13th.
34:36I was actually
34:37one of the
34:37ones that was
34:38assaulted.
34:39You were one
34:39of the ones
34:40that was
34:40assaulted?
34:41What happened?
34:44A guy stole
34:45my friend's
34:45phone and we
34:49confronted him
34:50about it and
34:51he started
34:52attacking me.
34:53I did get
34:55him back.
34:56You get him
34:56back.
34:57I did.
34:58he described
34:59that he was
35:00more the
35:00victim of
35:01the attack.
35:02But that
35:03was kind
35:04of the first
35:04win in the
35:05interview of
35:06just placing
35:06there on
35:07scene.
35:09Looking at
35:09the video
35:10after the
35:11attack of
35:11Mr. Deniso,
35:12he read a lot
35:13on his shoes.
35:15So I don't
35:16believe that he
35:16was the victim.
35:17And what
35:18friend was it
35:19that you were
35:20with to go
35:21confront this
35:21guy to get
35:22the phone
35:22back?
35:23Uh, it's my
35:24friend Bear.
35:24Bear?
35:26He lays out
35:27a story where
35:29he claims that
35:30he's with his
35:30friend.
35:31We were never
35:32able to identify
35:33who this person
35:34Bear was.
35:35We start
35:36speaking with
35:37Elijah Williams
35:38about Tony Weiss,
35:40the attack on
35:40him.
35:42There was a fight
35:43outside of the
35:44blind jay house.
35:45Yeah, I've seen
35:47the area before
35:47in the parking
35:48lot, but I've
35:49never actually
35:49been by the
35:50blind jay house.
35:51At this point
35:52during the
35:53interview, he
35:54details stuff
35:55that we know
35:55is not true.
35:57A surveillance
35:58video puts him
35:59at the
35:59blind jay house.
36:01You can't
36:01really argue
36:02over it.
36:03The video
36:04proves the
36:04case.
36:05The video
36:06has put you
36:07at the fight.
36:09I had
36:10done
36:10what the
36:10hell
36:10was there.
36:11I was
36:12thinking about
36:13how it was
36:13or whatever.
36:14Some dude
36:15told me
36:15he showed
36:16he came
36:16out with
36:17some pepper
36:18spray and
36:19just started
36:19closing me
36:20down.
36:21And then
36:22that's when
36:22I ran over
36:23to try to
36:23go grab
36:23it out of
36:24his hand.
36:24He started
36:24grabbing it
36:25on my throat
36:26and grabbed
36:27my jacket.
36:28And so I
36:28tried to
36:29wrestle him
36:29for it.
36:30And then
36:30I threw
36:31him on
36:31the ground
36:31and started
36:32kicking it.
36:33Elijah Williams,
36:34he ultimately
36:35admits his
36:36involvement.
36:39And we
36:39talked to
36:40him about
36:40the injuries,
36:41the significant
36:42damage,
36:43and just
36:43the pure
36:44violence.
36:44of what
36:46the assault
36:46had done
36:47to Tony
36:48Weiss.
36:49The male
36:49that I
36:50showed you
36:50in that
36:50lecture,
36:51when he
36:51was taken
36:52to the
36:52hospital,
36:53he was
36:54treated for
36:54very serious
36:55injuries.
36:57But he
36:58passed away.
36:59And so we
37:00can't change
37:01that.
37:02Don't say
37:02that.
37:03Don't say
37:04that.
37:07He
37:07ultimately
37:08regretted
37:09what he
37:09had done.
37:11It's
37:11easy to
37:12walk away
37:13from Tony
37:13Weiss,
37:14to not
37:14recognize
37:15him as
37:15a person,
37:16as a
37:16human
37:16being,
37:17because he
37:18was a
37:18homeless
37:18person.
37:20Williams is
37:21charged with
37:21second-degree
37:22murder for
37:22killing Tony
37:23Weiss,
37:24and second-degree
37:25assault for
37:26the attack
37:26on Tembalani
37:27Deniso.
37:33We were
37:34able to
37:34rule out
37:35Bear as
37:36having any
37:37involvement in
37:38the Tony
37:39Weiss murder
37:40and Deniso
37:41assault.
37:42We were
37:43also able to
37:44rule out
37:44the female
37:45at the
37:45ATM as
37:46having any
37:47involvement in
37:48the Tony
37:49Weiss murder.
37:51Prosecutors
37:52pieced together
37:53what happened
37:53on the early
37:54morning of
37:55February 13th.
37:58Elijah
37:59Williams,
37:59he was
38:00taking his
38:00testosterone,
38:02his steroids,
38:03drinking heavily
38:04and decided
38:05to go out.
38:07He was
38:07at a club
38:08with a friend
38:09and a friend's
38:09phone had
38:10been stolen.
38:12Williams
38:12tells police
38:13that Deniso
38:14stole the
38:14phone.
38:15Williams
38:16and Bear
38:16catch up
38:17with Deniso
38:17later in
38:18the evening.
38:20Mr. Williams
38:21brutally
38:21beat Deniso
38:22and then
38:23left him.
38:25There is
38:26no evidence
38:26that Deniso
38:27stole any
38:28property from
38:28Williams or
38:29his friend
38:30Bear.
38:33Elijah
38:34Williams
38:34encountered
38:35some friends
38:36including
38:36a woman.
38:38When the
38:38suspect
38:39punches the
38:39bank machine,
38:40he looks
38:41angry and
38:42then walked
38:43off in the
38:44direction where
38:44Tony had
38:45been living.
38:49He was
38:50being loud
38:51and now
38:52Tony had
38:52told them
38:52to be
38:53quiet.
38:54They exchanged
38:54words and
38:55things quickly
38:56escalated.
38:59He started
39:00stomping Tony's
39:01head and
39:01beating Tony
39:02to the point
39:03that Tony
39:04was no longer
39:05conscious.
39:07Then left
39:08the Blanchet
39:09house area,
39:10slowly made
39:11his way back
39:12to his
39:13residence.
39:15He had
39:16been drinking
39:16alcohol with
39:17the steroids
39:18that resulted
39:19in him just
39:20flying into
39:20a rage
39:21and doing
39:22what he
39:22did unprovoked
39:23without any
39:24further real
39:25explanation for
39:26it.
39:28Tony was
39:29a decent
39:30guy and
39:31certainly no
39:32one deserved
39:33what happened
39:34to him.
39:35Elijah
39:36Williams pleads
39:37guilty to the
39:37lesser charge of
39:38manslaughter in
39:39the first degree
39:40for the killing
39:41of Tony Wise.
39:43He also pleads
39:44guilty to attempted
39:45assault in the
39:46second degree for
39:47the attack on
39:48Tembalani
39:48Deniso.
39:51The judge
39:52sentences him
39:53to 17 years
39:54in prison.
39:56I am glad
39:58that that
39:58person is going
39:59to be in
40:00jail for a
40:01long time.
40:02I hope he
40:03doesn't get out
40:04because I would
40:05be fearful for
40:06anybody that
40:07would be near
40:08him.
40:09I hear a lot
40:11of people say
40:11there is no
40:12such thing as
40:13closure but I
40:14actually think
40:15I did feel
40:16some.
40:18just because
40:19they were able
40:20to find the
40:22killer and he
40:24was brought
40:25to justice.
40:26This surveillance
40:28video was
40:29absolutely crucial
40:30in this
40:30investigation to
40:32solve the case.
40:34Without the
40:35video they
40:35probably would
40:36have never
40:36found the
40:36suspect.
40:38Plain and
40:39simple.
40:39It seals the
40:41deal.
40:41The video
40:42will tell the
40:42absolute truth.
40:46Tony.
40:47Maybe he
40:48would have
40:48at least
40:48started to
40:49have some
40:49kind of
40:50relationship
40:51with his
40:51children again
40:52and at
40:54least see
40:54them grow
40:54up, see
40:55them have
40:56birthdays and
40:57do all those
40:59big events in
41:00life.
41:02It would have
41:03been one of
41:03the nicest
41:04times of my
41:05life being
41:05able to get
41:06him back.
41:10Next time on
41:12See No Evil
41:129-1-1.
41:13If I could get
41:14an officer to
41:15do a welfare
41:15check on my
41:16mother.
41:16The next
41:17steps to
41:17take is to
41:18obtain that
41:18surveillance
41:19footage.
41:20It just
41:20drew a lot
41:20of alarm
41:21bells for
41:21everybody.
41:22It's hard
41:23for me to
41:23realize that
41:24somebody could
41:24do this to
41:24another human
41:25being.
41:25Let's start
41:26from the top.
41:27Did you kill
41:27her?
41:27No.
41:29No.
