00:00the sad irony is is that i was a big fan of blake's and when she uh her name came
00:05up i was
00:06like she really is a great actress i really like her vibe as an actor i think she's very natural
00:13and giving in these scenes and i pushed i was like it's got to be her i think she would
00:18be great um
00:20so sorry i guess uh for that because then working with her um i was stoked i i met her
00:28uh the day that i was there and afterwards i talked to justin i was like am i wrong or
00:34was
00:34that kind of vibe a little bit weird and he goes i didn't want to tell you this but when
00:39i told her
00:39that i was casting you in this role she said he doesn't have enough credits she came into the room
00:45as the most powerful person in the room she's a producer she inserted herself in every creative
00:51decision nothing happened that she wasn't in charge of if not you know just as the director but she
00:57her voice is heard i don't know if you've had the chance to meet her she is not a wilting
01:02flower
01:03she is very confident and firm she's one of time magazine's 100 most influential people in the
01:10world she has a presence and there was no question that she was getting whatever she wanted so hearing
01:16her description of oh she's nude and she's so uncomfortable that i'm there and seen and the
01:21insinuations were so insulting anyway when you say you met her for the first time what what exactly
01:27what day was that um oh that was the day i was shooting the scene so that was the only
01:32time i met
01:33her met her what are your thoughts on on blake arriving at the met gala right after the news broke
01:38that they that blake and justin had settled this this lawsuit i mean i said that i said this to
01:46somebody
01:47today i was like if you could hear eyes roll i just this is what i told pierce morgan this
01:55and i i mean
01:55it i really do feel sorry for her and because i see those things as kind of desperate pr attempts
02:02to
02:04try to prove that everything is i guess their version of normal uh i don't i don't know it just
02:10feels
02:11contrived orchestrated it feels hollow it feels like i i've said this uh as well this i like this
02:20analogy so forgive me for leaning into it but uh growing up um in new york city and in new
02:26york in
02:27general i loved going to the city and see the macy's day window uh displays for christmas and like
02:33this is so beautiful and the presence that they had there were so shiny and wrapped and
02:39it was awesome and there's nothing in them so beautiful what a great idea this promise of
02:46whatever and to me that's how it feels it feels very hollow it feels very empty and after the news
02:53comes out about how you know 60 million dollars the lawyers get paid lawyers are rich lawyers got
03:00i mean it's a good day for lawyers do you know uh what justin was doing while blake was at
03:07the met
03:07gala justin's with his family and also like i think he's getting over a cold it's just like the weight
03:15and the emotional stress that this puts on him he's he's a real person to me that's what i get
03:21from all
03:21this he's out here experiencing all of this chaos like like a human person would and it's insurmountable
03:29the amount of let me drag your name through the mud and you know he his heart is on his
03:36sleeve
03:37and he's legit he's he's the real deal and that's hard for people because it can come across
03:44cheesy at worst and how was he feeling um after the you know how was he feeling about the settlement
03:52well that's the thing is that there's this relief because you won the blake's team comes crawling in
03:59like all after all their talk about how you know we want 400 million this and we're doing this for
04:05everybody and we have all this mountain of evidence and then all of a sudden okay where did it all
04:12go
04:13why did you settle if you were gonna because they weren't and they were losing and they lost and
04:19that's why everybody was excited for the i was excited to testify everyone was excited for the
04:24trial now i could say that because even though i'm associated my name's not really being dragged
04:30like they are there's no cost really there's a fear of going up against the most powerful people in
04:35hollywood i still have like even for our little chat here like what are they gonna do to me
04:40their lawyers are scary uh that's why you know not coming out coming out until now to say all this
04:48stuff is was strategic because i wanted to say it in court we have to watch them try to weave
04:55this manipulation of events and their version of events uh forgive me their version of what it is
05:03into what's gonna slander justin and his family and try to take like they weaponized jamie's birthing
05:12video jamie and natasha it's the most precious moment and it was this underwater situation she's
05:19submerged you couldn't even see her and they shared it as friends that's the thing that i would say
05:26if i was to say justin uh wants to not do again in the future is that insecurity that comes
05:34from
05:34wanting to be friends with these influential people that you have this admiration for maybe this respect
05:40in the industry because how could you not the idea of blake and ryan is so big and i think
05:46that put
05:47justin into a vulnerable place that made him seek kind of their validation for his ideas and then
05:53that exposed him the emotional cost of what this process has been for him his wife his kids like
06:01that needs time to heal because he's again he's not out here to be famous he's not out here to
06:08be the
06:09center of attention like that he wants to tell great stories and then use whatever notoriety comes from
06:15that to continue to tell great stories on bigger skit on big into bigger venues and i want to ask
06:22what
06:22were your personal interactions like with blake on set while you were filming and and um just behind
06:29the scenes in general sure um very very little very minimal just um because i'm a professional and i
06:36have been on many sets thankfully i don't have the privilege of growing up in a you know the family
06:44or
06:44whatever of actors and things uh but i've been privileged enough to book some work i was a
06:49professional uh so my engagement with her was only when it was invited or we're talking about the scene
06:58and so there was after we cut and wrapped i just said she was great that was great because she
07:04was it
07:05was a great scene and what made it into the film turned into a montage but between justin and her
07:11and
07:11you can see kind of like the picture that they use is like justin's got a hand on her leg
07:15and they're
07:15talking all of that they talked through all of that was decided the improv stuff was she's pretending
07:21to have a baby but she's fully covered she's covered with a prosthetic that went way down way down
07:28way up she's covered with that hospital gown that you see always was maybe like a shoulder peekaboo
07:34that was it and then she was wearing black shorts and whatever else she was wearing there's nothing
07:40to see nothing to look at and then i'm not where a gynecologist would be to actually deliver a child
07:49i'm way back holding a real baby to then lift up and pretend
07:55yeah was there any um any uh you know any type of communication any like behind the scenes talking
08:04again it was very calm it was the whole set was very professional everything felt because there's
08:09like extra nurses and stuff and like the family of the baby who they've you know cast as the baby
08:14is there to make sure that the baby's safe and in good hands and the rehearsal of the scene and
08:19they
08:19shot it a few times and they got their different angles and everything felt like it went very
08:25smoothly afterwards it was like round of applause it was very traditional and it was very much like
08:31i told her you were great it was a pleasure to work with you kind of thing how much has
08:36this lawsuit
08:37in this whole situation affected justin i mean his heart's broken it's it's like the reason
08:47he wanted to direct this piece the reason why he wanted to be in it to put his heart on
08:52it
08:53was because he found the book to be significant he talked to colleen they had this before all of this
09:00chaos he had a great relationship with colleen he was gonna usher forth her book to a whole new
09:07audience turning it into a movie and his heart was in it he wanted to tell the best story he
09:13wanted
09:13these conversations these nuanced conversations about domestic violence the responsibility that
09:21men have to have this conversation not just the victims not just the women and so that was his whole
09:28drive the partnerships with these non-profits that was the goal and he wasn't launching any brands or any
09:36merchandise he wasn't trying to make it about himself and so for it all to blow back in such a
09:45terrible way such contrived ways that literally tear at his intention and accuse him of being false
09:55in what has been his reputation not his brand how people know him so when they accused him traditionally
10:05if he was guilty of this then other people come out of the woodwork over the last two years people
10:13would be like oh thank you for the courage of speaking out because i had this experience with
10:16justin and i had this experience with justin and there's this pattern because that's who he is
10:20and none of that happens because that's not who he is he has never had this which is also the
10:26shock
10:27also the weight and so weathering this seeing the cost that this has the dues that his children pay
10:35because they experience their their parents their mom and their dad suffering this and their parents
10:41experience the weight on the kids having to move around and the paparazzi that are chasing
10:46the conversations having to have these conversations about but they said this about you
10:52why would they say that about you terrible that's a big burden to carry and then to maintain the
11:00knowledge that that's not who you are that's exhausting i appreciate i'm very happy to talk about
11:08my friends because they're awesome and they don't deserve any of the things that have been
11:13said about them and i'm very excited for this to be completely put to bed and for i mean the
11:21world
11:21knows the truth really everyone knows he didn't do any of this and she tried she keeps trying and
11:29eventually i mean she has to be exhausted at this point too like the desperation i'm just excited for
11:37it all to be over and then we can talk about other nice things
