00:00Well, something that is interesting and kind of stands out when you look back on some of those things is
00:09that you kind of were a marketing genius kind of early on.
00:13You know, obviously we see, as consumers, we saw those costumes then lead to things like the House of Darion
00:19because we wanted to dress and look like Destiny's Child.
00:22But then you also just even have, like, from when you were a little girl, renaming yourself from Celestine Anne
00:30to Tina Beyonce.
00:31Yes, yes.
00:32When you think about kind of those decisions or rather like what that taught you about becoming a business person
00:40and a business woman and betting on yourself, what is kind of your takeaway from seeing, you know, the costumes
00:48go to a clothing line,
00:50but you had to battle to even get them to let you have those costumes on the girls.
00:56Yeah, because, I mean, it was really tough because we always admired Motown and how if you were sitting in
01:03the 20th row, you still could see that sparkle or something that looked bigger than life.
01:08But the record label did not like that at all.
01:10So they were constantly trying to get rid of me.
01:13They were like, Miss Tina is the problem.
01:15The girl's hair is too big.
01:17And, you know, in Texas, we like big hair.
01:20And we feel like the higher, the hair, the closer to God, right?
01:25And they did not like that.
01:27They thought it was country.
01:29And also, I would dress the girls in these sequins costumes.
01:33And some of them I look back on.
01:34I'm like, I don't know what the hell I was thinking.
01:36But a lot of them were amazing.
01:39And it set them apart and so that they stood out and people wanted to look like them.
01:46And, you know, the whole time they were calling my costumes the Halloween costumes because they were referred to that
01:52a lot.
01:54But the fans were trying to wear the clothes and they were loving it.
01:59And it set the girls apart.
02:00And I think that was a big part of what made them special and different.
02:04Aside from the talent, because they were super talented.
02:07And I'm not taking away from that.
02:09But the imaging had a lot to do with it.
02:12And, you know, sometimes I get sad about it because I look back at pictures and I'm like, that was
02:16really good.
02:18But people were, you know, the record label was constantly tearing it down and saying, you know, they need to
02:23look like Britney Spears.
02:25And they need to have on a midriff top and some jeans.
02:28And they even tried to get rid of me a couple of times.
02:32Which didn't work, thank God.
02:35Thank God.
