Listen to what Dylan Groenewegen, Tobias Lund Andresen, Arnaud de Lie, Giulio Pellizzari, Jonas Vingegaard and Jonathan Milan have to say ahead of stage 1 of the Giro d'Italia 2026!
The Giro d’Italia is one of the most prestigious cycling tours in existence. After last year’s thrilling battle, in which Simon Yates defeated Richard Carapaz and Isaac del Toro, the peloton returns for another three weeks of top-level racing. Jonas Vingegaard, representing Team Visma–Lease a Bike, will be aiming to claim his first Giro title. The 24-year-old Giulio Pellizzari will try to stop him, as will Derek Gee-West, Felix Gall, Enric Mas, and Adam Yates, who would no doubt love to follow in his brother’s footsteps. With plenty of opportunities for both sprinters and attacking riders, everything is in place for three weeks of thrilling and unpredictable racing!

00:51Tobi, cosa facciate di un'ottima start per la settimana, avanti del Giro d'Italia?
00:56Do you still have the same form?
01:40Grazie.
01:41Grazie.
01:42I know you just won your first race of the year, so it looked like you had a great form
01:46for your first Giro d'Italia, but you're a little bit sick, how are you today?
01:51Yeah, I feel better than the last three days after famine.
01:57I feel ready, but for sure, with the stomach problem, I don't eat really, really good,
02:05so we will see during the day how I feel, but already the motivation is there, so it's
02:11a good point.
02:12Tell us more about this motivation, how excited are you to do your first Giro d'Italia?
02:15Giro d'Italia.
02:16Giro d'Italia is really special, it's really passion for cycling.
02:22I did my first Tirreno this year, Giro is still a step more, so I really enjoy every moment
02:31now.
02:32What's the goal?
02:34First was to try to have the Baglia and Rosa, but now with the sickness I don't know
02:41where I am, but we will try today, but there's also other possibilities to win, like stage
02:493, so I will take day by day.
02:57Giulio, it's not your first Grand Tour, it's not your first Giro d'Italia, but do you feel
03:01that it's a first somehow, because this time you are identified as a protagonist?
03:08Yeah, it's always special to be here in the Giro, and yeah, we can say it's the first
03:15special Giro for me, we start with some good ambition, but we have to stay calm and look
03:21stage by stage.
03:22How do you see those first three days in Bulgaria?
03:25It's going to be a tricky stage, I think today with the win it will be not super easy, but
03:32yeah, also tomorrow pretty long and tricky final, but yeah, in the Giro it's always the
03:38same, we have to be focused every day.
03:40Can you imagine the first duel with Vingegaard tomorrow?
03:45I hope that we can wait until the climb, thank you.
03:51Jonas, your last Grand Tour win was La Vuelta, it started in Italy and you exited Italy with
03:57the red jersey, do you equally want to exit Bulgaria with the Malla Rosa already?
04:02I mean, it would be nice to have the pink jersey already here, but yeah, the goal is to have
04:09it in Rome and yeah, that's what we fight for.
04:13What do you make of these first three days?
04:15Well, I think today is quite flat and then tomorrow there will be a climb in the end, so
04:21for sure everyone has to be ready there.
04:23How does it feel to be the hot favorite, almost the only one?
04:28Well, I mean, I'm happy that everybody thinks I'm the favorite, it means that I've done
04:33something good in the past, so obviously that's a good thing and yeah, I'm here, I'm ready
04:39for it and I'm going to fight every day.
04:43Johnny, your first three Grand Tours, you have won the point certification, what more
04:47can you get from this Giro d'Italia?
04:50Well, for sure we can get more experience, more fun, so I'm really excited for it, you know,
04:57sure it will be a new experience, for sure it will be, every day will give me something
05:04new, some new emotions, some new experience, some new, yeah, feedbacks in the end also about
05:12how I will feel, so yeah, really, really looking forward.
05:16Why don't you say the Malia Rosa today?
05:20Yeah, also this, I have to say, maybe it's Karamazee, but we cannot say that this is one of my
05:27biggest goals and dreams.
06:00so you can see a lot of gods or prayers around this world in the face.
06:18So yeah, somebody else, let's stop.
06:18Grazie a tutti.
06:48Grazie a tutti.
