00:00While the political crisis in Negeri Sampilan has seen UMNO under fire from certain quarters in Pangatan Harapan,
00:07an analyst believes it will pave the way for parties to become rivals in elections, but possible allies after the
00:13polls.
00:14University of Technology Malaysia's Maslan Ali said tensions between the two sides clearly remained,
00:20despite Barisan Nacional's vow to continue backing the PH-led government in Negeri Sampilan.
00:25He told FMT that these tensions risked escalating into prolonged public spats and blatant attacks against one another.
00:34He said this could lead to three-cornered fights between PH, BN and Brigata Nacional in the next general election,
00:40or Negeri Sampilan state election, although the parties could become allies again after the polls.
00:46Meanwhile, Academy Nusantara's Azmi Hassan said the tensions in Negeri Sampilan had essentially given BN the justification
00:53it needed to go solo in future elections, including GE16 and upcoming state polls.
01:00Azmi said this would be particularly beneficial for BN in the Johor and Malacca state elections,
01:05since the Grand Old Coalition already holds two-thirds majorities in both state assemblies.
01:11However, he said both blocs appear fairly balanced in Negeri Sampilan,
01:15making for a close fight and tougher state negotiations.
