00:01A singer has allegedly been harassed by loan sharks who threatened to kidnap her unless she repaid a loan with
00:08exorbitant interest.
00:09The 39-year-old singer, who wanted to be known only as Yi, said at a press conference organized by
00:16MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head, Datuk Sri Michael Chong,
00:21on Thursday that she was first contacted in April by what she believed was a licensed moneylender.
00:27Yi intended to borrow about RM45,000 but received only RM17,800, leading her to suspect she had been scammed.
00:38By May, she began receiving demands for repayment with excessive interest.
00:43Although she had already repaid RM20,300, the scammers allegedly continued demanding RM49,400 to fully settle the loan.
00:53Yi said she continued making payments out of fear of further harassment.
00:58Chong said the threats escalated when the scammers warned they would kidnap her if she refused to pay.
