04:51this is the ultimate renovation competition and as you can see it is still an active work site but
04:58that's why you're here to help bring this resort to life
05:02with its calm lake and peaceful surroundings this is the place for a vacation getaway and your mission
05:08to transform this resort into a destination by working your magic on these four lake houses
05:16each of these lake houses have an entry kitchen and dining living room three bedrooms
05:24two bathrooms two bathrooms and an incredible opportunity for outdoor living and all of them
05:31back onto this beautiful lake each week you will be renovating a new space and we will be judging the
05:39results but we won't be doing it alone we will be joined by expert judges along the way
05:44you will have a budget of 150 000 where and how you use that money is up to you all
05:54right when all said
05:55and done the duo with the best vacation home wins the bragging rights of course and the title of
06:01renovation resort champions and you're going to take home a game-changing prize of 100 000
06:07your first task is to think big by starting to plan the exteriors of your lake house
06:18that means choosing your color palette finishings and materials so our crew can
06:23start to execute your exterior vision so is everyone ready to get this renovation party started
06:32well we're not just going to hand you your keys today that would be too easy
06:38you're going to have to earn them your first challenge is designed to help you become more
06:44familiar with the resort itself your house keys are locked in a toolbox on your porch for you to open
06:51it you'll need to crack the four digit code here's how it's going to work his stomach hurts
07:01oh okay this board shows four icons where your lock code numbers are hidden around the resort
07:07at the beach in the water
07:13in the trees
07:17and the last one is a riddle you must solve now as a team you'll take turns finding your
07:24color-coded numbers one at a time once all four are placed you can head to your lake house and
07:29test your
07:30code if it works you're in the first team to unlock their lake house won't just get a head start
07:37they will gain control and power in this week's main challenge
07:44i just want to like start out setting an impression that we're winners and so i definitely want to win
07:50this first challenge above all challenges so are we ready yes we got this yeah let's do it let's do

11:56first challenge win next up the whole competition tatiana and thomas are first to crack the code
12:02they have gained access to their property first and the advantage is still to come
12:09oh my goodness there's so much i can do with this space and look at that view i've been designing
12:16about 10 years and you and i have been working together about half of that now five years yeah
12:21i can't wait to get started our work dynamic is interesting like siblings i mean we're very
12:28strong-headed both of us uh strong opinion yeah passionate i can't wait i have a huge vision for
12:35this living room my design style i would say is organic modern we are from the west coast so we
12:42have
12:42a little bit of west coast flair in that as well let's go outside talk big picture and figure out
12:48the
12:48exterior design of our lake house style materials and the overall vision oh wow this is amazing you
12:55got the lake the trees exactly this is the type of energy i want to bring to our designs we've
13:01decided
13:01to call our lake house cedar shore there's beautiful cedar trees the lake shore's right there so we really
13:08wanted to tie that together for our lake house i want to blend the clean lines with the natural vibes
13:13of the surroundings but we're going to add a touch of our west coast style so i'm thinking we do
13:18two-tone siding a charred black mixed with a natural oak black window trim and a statement
13:23entry door maybe black with glass panels i'm feeling it oh my god it looks so good look at all
13:32the
13:32natural light we're co-workers and friends from vancouver canada mary dad and i met four years ago
13:38through a mutual friend and we just hit it off right away do you kind of have a vision of
13:43what you think
13:43you want to do this space absolutely being japanese canadian plays a huge impact on how i design things
13:50need to be very intentional it shouldn't feel cluttered it should feel purposeful i'm so excited
13:55there's a ton of work and we have to impress both brian and scott and all the future guests for
14:01this
14:01property we are calling the lake house moonlight bay because i love how we have such a gorgeous
14:08waterfront not only is it appreciated in the daytime but also the nighttime as well for siding i'm
14:14envisioning two different wood tones one's a rich blackened wood finish almost like a charred look and
14:20then we can pair it with a light oak accent i want to wow the guests so a modern sleek
14:25door is a must
14:26then we'll go in with the black roof on the top to tie it all together i'm so excited that
14:31we're doing
14:32this together because i feel like when we work together we just make like magic this is perfect
14:38this is a perfect canvas we got this we got it we're from dallas texas we met on social media

14:44her work and i was a little fangirling so i reached out i just hired her on my next job

14:50and my next job and she's been on every single job that i've done this is gorgeous we've named our

14:56house coral cove the design is all centered on the heart and soul of the caribbean i always have
15:04to funk it up and what i mean by that is having color and culture and texture throughout
15:09i want our lake house bright and beachy so i'm thinking we use white siding with warm wood accents
15:15and as a nod to my favorite place on earth the bahamas we will paint the front door in an
15:20eye-catching
15:21color and over the black windows we should install like bahama inspired shutters painted the same
15:26color as the door so you're taking island vibes and bringing them to renovation resort of course i am
15:36can you believe it like us in real life i'm marci i'm melissa and we're sisters from niagara
15:44growing up it was a house full of three girls i'm the oldest i'm the youngest and we have sister
15:50allison
15:51who is also in real estate i used to go into their rooms and kind of redo their spaces and
15:57open the
15:57door and have them come into you know a new styled room or a new styled shelf this is amazing

16:02picture it i can picture it oh my gosh we want to name our lake house driftwood dunes for me
16:08i always
16:09love a traditional style we're always inspired by antiques and that cottage core look did you see
16:16that view i love it so much okay so listen to this so i want the first impressions of the
16:21lake house to
16:21feel like a romantic east coast getaway let's do natural siding and maybe some sand and oak tone
16:27cladding i'm thinking maybe we do a blue door we can do the dark roof and the window trims i

16:32we'll tie it all together i love it i can vision it can't wait to get started me too don't

16:47running back now what now what all right well we did tell you with your first challenge to think big
16:55picture right and i know you're all busy selecting your exterior finishings however
17:02we're kicking off this season with a bit of a twist
17:09you'll be working together yes together to design the beachfront this is how it's going to work the
17:17eight of you are going to be divided into two teams oh no one team will work on the land
17:24creating a
17:24dynamic gathering space and the other team is going to be working on the lake area creating a dreamy
17:30beach vibe and we have provided a few key elements that may be helpful some things will be very useful
17:36and some things will be completely useless so here's the good news we'll give each team a ten
17:42thousand dollar budget you're probably wondering who you're going to be working with right
17:47yeah tatiana and thomas you cracked the code first yep so you're going to get to pick which
17:53team you would like to work with but that's not all you can also decide if your team would like
18:02to work on the land or on the lake oh man i don't know uh take a look for the
18:08first time ever you're
18:09going to have to turn one of your competitors into a collaborator yeah well you don't have much time
18:14you're going to be making your decision now we have to pick one team
18:23we're gonna go with shallan and liz come together all right come on over they seem like they really
18:31know what they're doing and i think with shallan she seems super bold and colorful which not necessarily
18:36is my style but i think that could be a really good thing and work to our benefit now we
18:40want to
18:41find out if you're going to work on the land or in the water so you guys are canadian and
18:46have
18:46more experience with what wouldn't do that wouldn't do that i think we have a decision we are going to
18:55take the land okay so it's time to get to work brian and i will be watching go check out

19:11we're not expecting to be teamed up at all let alone right off the bat okay okay what are we

19:42build a large deck so guests can hang out to sip their smoothies and enjoy the view and on a

19:48deck let's create a cooking space with a barbecue and a pizza oven perfect for easy outdoor eating
19:54last but not least let's turn this beachfront into a hangout zone with a fire pit creating the
19:59ultimate sunset watching spot shouldn't we make sure this is even usable before we make all these plans
20:05let's go check it out oh god it's nasty we'll fix up the floor a non-existent floor we ain't

20:15back now let's put some lipstick on this pig you guys they made such a big mistake i think that

20:23are going to win with the lake it's nerve-wracking because you know we just met melissa and marcy so
20:29it's just putting our trust into the other person's hands how would we want to experience this i love like
20:34water bar yes accent good idea what do we have here oh yeah that's right i love that wood one

20:42could use that as more seating yes yes yes okay let's bring this boat back to life let's transform
20:48it into a cozy lakeside daybed we can repaint it blue and white amazing for laid-back lounging
20:55to elevate the space let's create a chic cabana with wooden slats for shade and add curtains to get a
21:01light
21:02and airy vibe oh and we can add a custom swing set with a hammock this gives guests the perfect
21:08spot
21:08to sway and dip their toes in the lake and the show stopper a floating dock with space to sit
21:14sip and party
21:18please please please yay this is what we're picturing all right a lot of work to do yeah a lot

21:24we have handed over what is the most valuable part of this entire property the beachfront we know it's the
21:29number one booked type of property online for vacation rentals they can either knock this out
21:36of the park or they could fail miserably if they screw this up we're gonna get real tough on them
21:42no more messing around let's talk about where you want this opening okay i've never turned a boat into
21:47anything let alone a couch first time for everything i guess
21:54so what kind of work do you do um so we do renovations of all sorts residential commercial
22:00growing up i didn't think i'd be in construction coming from persian culture really you can be an
22:06engineer a doctor a lawyer and maybe a dentist after graduating university didn't know what i wanted to do
22:13so i renovated my parents home to just help them sell their home and the property sold for over asking
22:19it's been a bit of a snowball effect and here we are today almost six years in
22:27heads up i mean honestly if this was real world and someone wanted us to completely outfit their
22:34camper it would take weeks the camper's in rough shape we're definitely feeling the pressure meaningless
22:38oh man that's nasty little rat's nest in there thomas is a powerhouse and i'm a little bit
22:45intimidated honestly but it's really cool that i get to like scope out the competition
22:53it's redemption time on the water okay you're excited let's do it the floating dock this is the
23:00perfect place to swim up and tan we have this netting we love that there's going to be some stools

23:06the water where you can sit and an umbrella some floaties in the water the guests are going to love
23:11it nice sweet good job jump
23:17we're building off of the rv we're going to build an additional deck to house a pizza oven communal space
23:25two feet each yeah got it all right let's talk exterior my style is bold and vibrant with lots of
23:33colors i honestly have never really worked with another designer and it's it's something my style
23:40is organic modern so as natural as can be i feel chelan and i are both very like
23:49opinion is it would i be strong-minded yeah thank you what about something very vibrant and peachy and pink
24:01i haven't gone there before and i don't think i plan on anytime soon so maybe not that one for
24:06me
24:07i'm gonna pull you over to the bright side
24:13melissa and i are both responsible for building this cabana
24:17very little time but we'll make it work how does it fit oh like a glove i definitely trust marcy
24:24with the
24:24big design decisions but at the same time it's important for both of us to shine no gym today
24:31normally with melissa i can take the lead but at the same time i want to be a team player
24:37what are we thinking for painting the colors of our team with the dark blue i love it i'm so
24:42on board
24:47this cabana this is gonna be gorgeous sometimes people want to take a little bit of a break relax who
24:54doesn't like a nap on the beach okay guys what we got going on here well we're just finishing up

25:07me and liz definitely are concerned about time management uh shalana and tatiana wanted to add
25:13an extra deck out front we're cutting the huge skylight in and i don't think we are going to have
25:18the time for that we got a lot of work to do inside with the wait what so i have

26:35sand we'll just cover our footprints as we go what are we doing we're making a day bed

26:47had a couple
26:47holes in the boat so this is staying on land but we have a lot of fun stuff that's going

26:59looking i feel like we have so much on our plate there's no time to worry about other people what's
27:04it like to be working with your competitors we're able to share our strengths so share your strengths

27:26it's been good so far it really has i like you but i know i gotta i can't like you

27:36how are you feeling about your competition the fact that they're making quite a bit of progress
27:40there i see a boat that they've been cleaning and scrubbing on for hours and i don't see it looking
27:45any better yeah whereas we have emptied out this rotten rat nest thing and it's starting to come together
27:52and we're starting to build our dick yeah oh is there are they not are they not doing their fair
27:58share we're the project managers i think we're talking to design over here now that we've talked
28:03to everyone it's interesting to see how team lake is taking a very casual amicable approach team land is
28:11taking a more aggressive stance there's a fight for power there and you can see it
28:20you hold it i'll come pop it in we have a scar light let there be light
28:33gonna make a beautiful floral mural it's in my wheelhouse so it'd be something that allows me to
28:40stand out as an individual it's definitely gonna be bold
28:44it matches your lip color almost so i am one of five as my siblings got older they moved out
28:53and
28:53so eventually i got my own room i kind of went wild and i painted my favorite cartoon character as
28:59a kid
29:00and i remember looking at those pictures just recently and realizing what impact that that was
29:05now it was my first mural actually i really like that it reminds me i'm not too far
29:13from where i started i'm doing what i was supposed to do from the beginning liz look at this peach
29:19oh that's perfection it turned out so good it's just confirmation that this is
29:25the right time and the right opportunity thank you thank you

32:35we also obviously noticed that the exterior of your lake houses are coming along with your siding
32:39choices coming to life and we'll be judging those later in this competition you must be getting excited

32:52communal spaces we've brought in two people we trust more than anyone else with a sharp eye for design
32:58and hands-on experience leading major renovations they know exactly what it takes to create a winning

33:27well i will be thinking about the overall guest experience so it's not only how they look from
33:33the aesthetic point of view but also how they function and how they've taken into account the beautiful
33:38views i'm going to be looking at the lakeside spaces obviously this is where everyone's going
33:43to come hang out make memories and enjoy this beautiful water okay let's go take a look we'll be back

34:03i love it it is so cute we got lake and we got land and we're starting with lake
34:12wow there's a lot to take in yeah beautiful floating dock out there we gave them the bear

34:28we think about the swings in the water they're interesting concept is great but where it's
34:32positioned like it's blocking i was just the rest of the view this has a great vibe
34:46what i love about this is they have created designated spaces which i like because we're
34:51thinking if we're all here and you know each other but what if you don't know everybody exactly you
34:54want a private like family spot are we heading over to the love boat i see over there here we

35:13what do you think this would be your social media moment yes for sure yeah they cut an entrance into
35:19the boat and then built benches i think it actually looks great you know they could have done a little
35:25more of a professional job they spent so much time sanding all the sections that got covered
35:30up they should have spent more time sanding the sections that you're actually touching that are
35:34a little bit sharp and slivery but overall i love the idea i think it's a great transformation
35:40i think they've captured the essence of lake yeah along with all the things you'd want to do
35:45lakeside absolutely they brought their color palette throughout and i think they've done a fabulous job
35:50of thinking about all ages so that's team lake are we ready to see team land yeah all right

36:05this was an abandoned trailer they gutted the whole thing this is a tremendous amount of work that was
36:10accomplished in a short period of time wow who would like a brian berry blast scott's spinach smoothie
36:16why do i got to be like the healthy boring one of the things they nailed here is really from
36:23the
36:23rental perspective if you did have a wedding here or a big birthday party this is just additional value
36:30the background like did someone create the mural or liz does the mural work and i think they nailed it
36:37my a little concern with the deck whoa does this actually come down uh looks like yeah that could have

38:24this was the first group challenge that we've ever done this was such an important space
38:29for the entire resort so we put a lot of responsibility in your hands and
38:36you did a great job congratulations good job everybody team lake the first thing i'll say is
38:44watching you work together was impressive you all played to your strengths and i think that shows in
38:51the final product it's inviting it's exciting it's got the marketability that a property like this
38:56requires one of the things i noticed right off the bat was just the cohesiveness across the board with
39:02how you move sort of what i say zone to zone and every moment spoke to the next so you
39:08just very
39:08well executed you took that old boat the vintage boat i think it's such a cool spot that will be
39:14your your social media picture your chill out spot kids will love that for me i love the cabana i
39:21love that there's shade but in the boat on the edges there was a lot like i can go and
39:26get splinters on
39:27my hands so just you know remembering the little fine details but one of the things that i
39:32was most drawn to was the floating dock obviously we're here we're enjoying the water with young
39:38kids even with older kids you want to be out and you want to enjoy the lake as much as
39:42you can
39:43really impressed with how far you took everything you should be proud of yourselves
39:49let's talk about team land i am most impressed with how quickly you got to work i saw insulation
39:56flying i saw boards being ripped out yeah i mean for me obviously the camper was your highlight and
40:03i don't know who painted the mural beautiful thank you and by creating that entire space with the camper
40:11and the outdoor barbecue space you have so many different zones that it really became an additional
40:17like add-on like you just added value with an old camper it's an incredible area i think that it's
40:24going to be a big asset what i kind of liked was your sitting area in the front i love
40:29how it's so
40:30versatile you can hang out during the day but you also thought about like evening i'm looking at your
40:35sign i like it but i can see how some of the pieces were a little bit rough cut underneath
40:39the stands
40:40holding the door open those needed a hinge or something so they could lock in place so that
40:46doesn't slam down the deck is really spongy as a property owner i would think oh i got to strengthen
40:53up that deck everything looks great but it feels like you just needed another half day
40:56to put in a few more screws and a few things and in this competition that can be the difference
41:02between winning and losing no matter what happens today who wins this challenge or not
41:08you should all be really proud of yourselves however sadly only one team can win
41:16and the winners of renovation resorts communal challenge are
41:40each win throughout this competition is going to put you in a stronger position to compete
41:47for the ultimate prize the coveted title of renovation resort champions
41:56but brian and i have a confession to make
42:00we told you we'd be giving away a hundred thousand dollars this season
42:05that's not exactly true we are actually giving away
