00:07.
00:08.
00:30And welcome again to the big match.
00:32And among today's three First Division games,
00:34we have a penalty with an air of controversy to it.
00:36A goal in injury time, and a goalkeeper being booked
00:39for an incident outside his penalty area.
00:41Well, we've got plenty more besides, of course.
00:43We line up like this today.
00:44Main match, Arsenal against Leeds.
00:47Graham with his head, and Hunter away.
00:49Simpson with his head.
00:50And Kennedy with his, Radford.
00:53Oh, bad luck, Radford!
00:55What a tremendous shot on the turn!
00:57Supported by Sheffield United against Spurs.
01:02A good ball to Perryman.
01:04The angle's tight.
01:05My word, that was pretty close.
01:07And Wolves against Everton.
01:11A little too long.
01:14So, a lot of good stuff coming your way today.
01:16Also on the programme, we have the great, the legendary,
01:19Ferenc Puskas, formerly of Hungary and Real Madrid.
01:22Yesterday, Ferenc, in on the ball,
01:24took ten penalties against Gordon Banks.
01:26He scored with six.
01:27Just look still at those magical skills of 44-year-old Puskas.
01:31He does something else today that we thought might interest you as well.
01:34But now let's get on with the action,
01:36and we pick up what really was the outstanding game of the day.
01:39Arsenal, of course, against Leeds United.
01:41A match, of course, that really means so much towards the top of the table.
01:44And Arsenal, led out as ever by their Scottish skipper, Frank McClintock.
01:48And indeed, there's been a mild reshuffle of the Arsenal side.
01:51Eddie Kelly is dropped to substitute,
01:52and Peter Simpson comes back into the number eight shirt.
01:56Arsenal, of course, knowing full well
01:58that it's going to be quite a battle
01:59against a Leeds side that really has started well this season.
02:03But a man who's making some impact in the Arsenal side these days
02:06and really has established himself in the back four,
02:08John Roberts, the Welsh international.
02:10Leeds United, this is their first visit to London this season,
02:13led out also by a Scottish skipper, Billy Bremner.
02:16And now without four internationals,
02:18goalkeeper Gary Sprake, full-back Terry Cooper,
02:20and forwards Mick Jones and Eddie Gray.
02:23These really are crippling blows to any side.
02:25Terry Yorath now comes into the back four.
02:27Rod Belfitt gets a chance into the attack.
02:30But Leeds, in spite of these injuries, of course, as everybody knows,
02:33still a side full of power, strength and know-how.
02:37Always very, very difficult to beat.
02:39But a man in the Leeds side today,
02:41getting one of those rare chances in goal,
02:42is 23-year-old David Harvey,
02:44who, in fact, wants to move from Leeds
02:46because his chances are so few and far between.
02:48Referee today, Derek Nippard of Bournemouth.
02:51There can't be many taller men than him in the game.
02:53And certainly there were no bigger crowds anywhere in England.
02:5551,000 waiting for the start.
02:58So the champions take on the runners-up
03:00and Arsenal, defending the goal to our right,
03:02get us away with their red shirts with white sleeves.
03:05Leeds, all in white, of course.
03:11Terry Yorath.
03:13Into the side because Terry Cooper is injured.
03:18Giles to Clarke.
03:20And now to Brembo.
03:24And McNabb and Reney
03:27going in hard for the same ball.
03:31And a throw now to the Arsenal.
03:36Leeds have something of a jinx on this Arsenal side.
03:38In fact, Arsenal have beaten Leeds only once in their last 17 meetings.
03:42And here's Bob Wilson.
03:43Belly Bremner waiting for it.
03:46Radford to Rice.
03:53Leeds who've yet to play a game at Ellen Road.
03:55And yet their form has been very impressive indeed.
03:58Lying second in the table.
04:00And unbeaten in their last five games.
04:04Arsenal a more faltering start.
04:05But they got themselves out of trouble with a win at West Bromwich last week, of course.
04:08And here's George Gray.
04:11Giles.
04:17To Lorimer.
04:20Reney making a run down the right for him.
04:22That's aimed towards Alan Clarke.
04:24And falling for Bob Wilson.
04:31Radford.
04:33Kennedy.
04:34Great power in young Kennedy.
04:36All that a striker needs.
04:38And McNabb has gone running forward for this one.
04:40Look for it from Graham.
04:41Radford now to hit it.
04:42Oh, my goodness, it hit the crossbar.
04:47And Harvey knew absolutely nothing about it.
04:50He was a good six yards out of his goal.
04:53As it went floating back over his head.
04:58Well, he can smile now.
05:03What a terrible mistake that would have been.
05:06From John Radford.
05:12Graham.
05:13Kennedy.
05:15McNabb.
05:16So little space there.
05:17But Arsenal made good use of it as Radford takes it up.
05:19And he's got Story sturgeoning up alongside him.
05:22Bradford with a shot.
05:26But blocked by Joroth.
05:28And Hunter.
05:30Bremner.
05:32Madeley.
05:35To Giles.
05:41Lorimer.
05:44And at least last, rather, a Rene run down.
05:47The right has been rewarded with the ball.
05:48Now it's with Giles.
05:49Rene going on again.
05:51Four Leeds United.
05:54Faded back for Lorimer.
05:55To hammer one.
05:56And down goes Wilson.
05:57And he does well.
06:02Even that wasn't vintage Lorimer.
06:03But it got the best out of Bob Wilson.
06:07Radford winning that nicely in the air.
06:09The flick off for Kennedy.
06:10And Story now.
06:12And Armstrong has gone darting in on the far post.
06:14Radford is also in there.
06:16And Radford trying one on the turn.
06:18And down goes Harvey.
06:32Roberts.
06:33Story.
06:35While the managers probably suffer down sight more than the fans do.
06:40But Donner-Rivi certainly appeared to be suffering a moment ago.
06:43Now it's Lorimer.
06:44Giles to take it up for him.
06:48Belfit.
06:51Maidley.
06:53Hunter.
06:56And Billy Brembo.
07:01Giles.
07:06Maidley.
07:06That must be something like 12 or 13 passes.
07:08They've made no headway at all.
07:11Hunter.
07:12Yorath.
07:13And where's it all going to end?
07:15Lorimer.
07:16Well, there it's ended now with Simpson to Radford.
07:21Kennedy.
07:22Simpson again.
07:24To McNair.
07:31Armstrong.
07:33And he also was conscious that Reilly was close behind him.
07:35And knew he had to do anything.
07:37He had to do it quickly.
07:38And getting himself into trouble there.
07:41And it's Belfit to take it up.
07:42And he's got Maidley sneaking down the right for him.
07:45Clark going in the middle.
07:46Across that Arsenal goal again.
07:47And once more, Bob Wilson was equal to it.
07:52But a good swift break.
07:53And Maidley played his part in it.
07:56And Clint Ock.
07:57Very cool indeed.
08:03Simpson.
08:04Beating Bremner.
08:08Going on and on.
08:10And a shot.
08:11Well, a Peter Simpson special.
08:13We've seen him over the last couple of seasons quite often come forward and do that.
08:17And there always seems to be a deceptive amount of pace in his shots.
08:30So, Harvey with a goal kick.
08:38And McClintock, I think, penalised for calling there.
08:48Giles.
08:48Giles.
08:49And Roberts to the rescue again for Arsenal.
08:52Armstrong.
08:54Story.
08:59Kennedy to turn it for Radford.
09:02George Graham with Reeney slipping at a crucial moment.
09:05And turned on nicely for Kennedy now.
09:06For Simpson again.
09:11One of the best Arsenal move of the match.
09:14And Simpson caught it well.
09:16But it was a couple of yards wide.
09:21A nice flowing move that left Simpson in the clear.
09:27And Leeds for the first time really extended.
09:30Here's David Harvey then.
09:34Derek Nifard, the referee from Bournemouth.
09:44Well, that may give Arsenal a bit of heart.
09:46Certainly there's been a lack of rhythm about their players.
09:49Indeed, there was in that League Cup tie against Barnsley.
09:51And here's George Armstrong, Kennedy going for too high.
09:54Graham straining to get to it.
09:56Jack Charlton coming out to challenge him.
09:58And a corner.
10:07Roberts again has gone up for it.
10:15There he is.
10:17McClintock also coming up to join him now.
10:18Armstrong's corner.
10:20And Roberts trying to get in on there.
10:21Harvey grabbing it at the second go.
10:33But now Hunter.
10:36Clark.
10:38And I think a foul by McClintock.
10:44Linesman furiously flagging.
10:46And referee in agreement.
10:48Clark inspecting the damage.
10:50And Leeds now preparing for the free kick.
10:55Yes, there's the mark.
10:57Giles to float it.
10:59Yorath has made a burst into the middle.
11:01Bradford coming back with him.
11:03And Belfit trying to get to it.
11:05And Maidley's header.
11:08But a foul by Belfit.
11:19Just under a quarter of an hour to go to half time.
11:21And still no score.
11:22Bob Wilson with the free kick for Arsenal.
11:27Yes, a push by Hunter on Radford.
11:30And right in front of the referee.
11:32Arsenal's free kick.
11:41And Arsenal really have sprung a lot of men forward now.
11:44Everybody now ahead of McClintock as he takes this free kick.
11:48George Graham is amongst them.
11:49Graham with his head.
11:50And Hunter away.
11:51Simpson with his head.
11:53And Kennedy with his.
11:54Radford.
11:55Oh, bad luck, Radford.
11:57What a tremendous shot on the turn.
11:59Against the post.
12:01What a tremendous shot by Radford.
12:04Having none of the luck.
12:05He's hit the crossbar.
12:06And now he's hit the post.
12:13But how significant, too, how almost to the signal, every Arsenal player came forward.
12:20And proof, I suppose, that if you do plunge enough men forward, you more than likely will find yourself a
12:25chance.
12:25Goal.
12:38And now that here's Tim kritabner to find him in oneå ´.
12:52King Leute.
12:55Giles.
12:58But the crowd really have found their voice, a slip by Hunter to Kennedy now, Radford, going past Jorath, and
13:04into the side netting.
13:13Showing little emotion, John Radford, but having absolutely none of the luck.
13:25Well, the crowd really beginning to warm up as well.
13:31And a big crowd it is.
13:42Rini, Belfit, Bremner, Lorimer arms in the air calling for it, but made Lee instead.
13:59Simpson, Rice.
14:01Three Leeds defenders against two Arsenal attackers though.
14:05Kennedy following it up quickly.
14:07And George Graham in there.
14:08A lovely 1-2 with Armstrong.
14:10Graham again.
14:10And a goal!
14:11George Graham through the legs of Harvey.
14:15But a magnificent 1-2.
14:17A magnificent 1-2 by Arsenal.
14:23A 1-2 there with Kennedy playing his part.
14:27Armstrong taking it on.
14:29And Graham eventually finishing it off between the legs of David Harvey.
14:37So, ten minutes to go to half-time.
14:39And Arsenal go into the lead.
14:42The scorer, George Graham.
14:44His first goal of the season.
14:52And there really can really have been a more classic example of a 1-2 than that.
15:06And Charlton craning that neck and getting ahead of Kennedy.
15:10But McNabb, Graham and McClintock going up the ride as though his life depended on it.
15:17And Burnshaw calmly directing the traffic.
15:21Steve Burnshaw, Kennedy.
15:24Graham to Armstrong.
15:30Story.
15:32Graham.
15:34And a 1-2 that time that didn't quite come off.
15:37Jack Charlton.
15:41And a foul by Armstrong on Rini.
15:44A look of injured innocence.
15:47But a free kick to Leeds United.
15:55And the crowd behind that Leeds United goal.
15:58A mass of red and white scarves now.
16:09And now it's Lorimer.
16:12Stopped by McNabb.
16:31And Lorimer.
16:31Fremner pull down from the back.
16:34And Lorimer in fact wanted to take it quickly.
16:37But the referee, I think, keener to have a word with John Roberts.
16:41Denying Leeds the chance of taking it quickly.
16:44Roberts to get ahead to it.
16:48Kennedy.
16:51Story.
16:54Played for Armstrong.
16:55Played nicely for Graham.
16:57And down goes Graham.
16:58Taken by Norman Hunter.
17:02As the ball began to flow a lot more smoothly now for Arsenal.
17:25Armstrong with the floating free kick.
17:27And good work there by Harvey.
17:30Under a lot of pressure from Kennedy.
17:32And he did well there.
17:41Robert's really not tight getting underway.
17:43And McNabb surely obstructing Belfit.
17:49Rice.
17:51Wilson.
18:00Off the head of Hunter in fact.
18:03Yorath.
18:05To Jack Charlton.
18:08Clark.
18:09But nodded straight to Simpson.
18:11Radford again wandering down that right.
18:15It is a near between Radford and Yorath.
18:19And the book is coming out.
18:21He's going to be booked.
18:24For his feet too dangerously high on Radford.
18:26Who is in a lot of pain.
18:27Terry Yorath.
18:30I think he's explained to the referee that the ball was that chest high.
18:34He couldn't get down to it with his head.
18:36If he was going to do anything.
18:37He had to get up to it with his feet.
18:39But Mr. Nippard not listening.
18:41Instead the name of Yorath goes into the book.
18:48And I think Yorath would be well advised not to answer back again.
18:57I wonder what the reaction of Don Revy with that would be.
19:11So George Graham with the free kick.
19:14And Hunter to get it away.
19:18Clark.
19:25Madeley.
19:25To Lorimer.
19:27To Lorimer.
19:32Giles to Yorath.
19:37Giles again.
19:38And Rice covering up any possible one-two that Leeds were trying to play down the left.
19:54And given Leeds United's way.
19:58A free kick.
20:05Well into injury time now at the end of the first half.
20:07And in fact there goes the whistle for half-time.
20:11And Arsenal leading by a golden ale score just ten minutes from half-time by George Graham.
20:18Really the best flowing move of the match.
20:19And Arsenal looking very impressive indeed in the last quarter of an hour.
20:22Still to come for you to enjoy on the big match this afternoon.
20:26Highlights of Sheffield United against Spurs.
20:28And Wolves against Everton.
20:31But the half-time score here at Highbury is Arsenal 1.
20:35Leeds United 0.
20:36And we'll be back with you in just a couple of minutes.
20:49Charlie George.
20:51The young Arsenal player trying to come back from injury.
20:54And the man that so many Arsenal fans say the side is missing.
20:57Although Arsenal in the last quarter of an hour of that first half looking very impressive indeed.
21:00And leading by one goal to nil.
21:07So now it's Paul Meade.
21:12To Jorath.
21:15To Norman Hunter.
21:20Belfit not quite getting that.
21:21And Bremner trying to burst through into a dangerous position in the middle of that area.
21:25And now it's George Graham a long one away.
21:27To try and get Kennedy.
21:28And Rene covering very well indeed.
21:30Back to Harvey.
21:34Giles.
21:37And Roberts again.
21:39Hunter.
21:44Rene to Madeley.
21:47Slipping.
21:50But now Jorath.
21:54Hunter.
21:55Going to hit one and Wilson watching it all away.
22:01Armstrong.
22:03Played for Graham.
22:07Simpson.
22:10Graham again.
22:13The tempo and the pace still very much reduced.
22:28Armstrong to Graham.
22:33And the throw given to Arsenal.
22:40And the throw given to Arsenal.
22:46Taking two or three goes to get it away and they still haven't got it away.
22:50Kennedy there.
22:51Now Story trying to hit one on the turn.
22:53And Harvey late seeing it.
22:56From Peter Story.
22:57George Grail.
22:59Bradford.
23:00Trick Jorath.
23:02And a shot just wide again.
23:10Bradford with so much more skill than a lot of people give him credit for.
23:13They see him as a good player in the air with a powerful shot but he's got a lot of
23:17good skills on the ground as well.
23:27Roberts.
23:31Three leads defenders against two Arsenal attackers.
23:34Kennedy winning it in the air.
23:36Rene.
23:37Who has been faultless.
23:43Jorath.
23:46Madeley.
23:48Hunter.
23:51Bremner.
23:54Finding Jorath.
24:00Hunter now.
24:04Bremner.
24:08Bremner in fact only half challenged there by Rice but he looked behind to the referee and here's Giles with
24:13a great chance and a point save by Wilson.
24:17Well that's probably the best chance the Leeds United had had and Giles very nearly made the most of it.
24:23Wilson was absolutely magnificent.
24:27Giles again to turn it in once more.
24:29Clark going for it and once more Wilson gathering that ball above his head.
24:34We've now had three very fine saves from Bob Wilson this afternoon.
24:38Now McClintock right there.
24:50And now it's Armstrong.
24:51And now it's Armstrong.
24:54Loaded there towards Kennedy.
24:56But having it twisted off his head by Harvey.
24:59And now Jorath to take up the running for Leeds United.
25:08Giles.
25:10To Lorimer.
25:17Giles.
25:18And Belfit.
25:20Again desperately trying to get it through to Bremner.
25:22And Bremner stopped by McClintock.
25:24Roberts now to Radford.
25:31Armstrong.
25:37Simpson.
25:38Not a good pass there by Armstrong.
25:39It gave Simpson a run that he needn't have had.
25:42And gave Leeds the chance to get possession which they've got now.
25:45The madly striding forward.
25:47Bremner here with him.
25:53Bremner trying to find the angle for the shot.
25:55In the end couldn't find the room.
25:58Hunter now.
26:00Giles right up with the attack.
26:02Slowly but surely Leeds putting more and more emphasis on attack.
26:06With more and more men coming forward for them.
26:08The ball still in play.
26:09And now Kennedy.
26:11Maybe that'll give Arsenal the chance that they're looking for.
26:14Radford is streaking into a central position.
26:16Still Kennedy going on.
26:18Trying to hold off Madeley.
26:20And still he goes on.
26:22And down he goes.
26:23And a penalty.
26:24The penalty given.
26:26Rene on Kennedy.
26:29And Madeley is absolutely horrified by it.
26:34But the referee is adamant.
26:37And I should think Don Revy probably isn't terribly happy with it either.
26:41But the referee was there.
26:43And he says a penalty.
26:50Well Peter Storey would be the man who takes it.
26:53The man who scored that dramatic penalty in the semi-final.
27:01And that's the man who's got to stop it.
27:03David Harvey.
27:07Storey making absolutely sure.
27:09Harvey is poised.
27:13And they've got to stay outside that penalty area as Storey comes up.
27:18And a great.
27:19Almost a great save there by Harvey.
27:22Pushing it into the roof of the net.
27:24He's wild with himself.
27:26But Storey has scored.
27:28And put Arsenal two up.
27:30Played high.
27:32Harvey gets a hand to it.
27:34But into the roof of the net.
27:35Two-nil then to Arsenal.
27:44And Philippe Bramner looking disgusted at the referee.
27:49Storey delighted to have scored the second one.
27:53A tremendous run by Kennedy into that position from which the penalty came.
27:59Don Revy not very happy either.
28:03Still that lead substitute warming up on the far side.
28:06Joe Jordan.
28:09The young Scott, 19 years old.
28:11Yet to play in the first division.
28:15Bramner.
28:18Lorimer.
28:20With Rini going outside him.
28:24Still Lorimer.
28:25Curled there towards Belfit.
28:27Good work there by Wilson.
28:32Really for courage there is no beating Bob Wilson.
28:39Storey nicely aside for Armstrong.
28:42And still Armstrong.
28:43But his shot is charged down.
28:45Simpson.
28:47Graham without too much room to manoeuvre in.
28:50Kennedy.
28:51To Fonda one.
28:52Just over that crossbar.
28:57But a very good Arsenal move indeed.
29:01Jordan.
29:03Clark.
29:04Bremner.
29:08Well played there by Simpson.
29:10But now Madeley to follow it in.
29:12Lorimer.
29:16And Jordan waiting it for it.
29:18The substitute.
29:18But well over.
29:22Now in the final minute of the game.
29:26And it looks as though Leeds United, who took three points out of four from Arsenal last season,
29:31will go away empty-handed this time.
29:49And there goes the final whistle.
29:51In fact, 15 seconds early.
29:52But it's a final whistle that says victory for Arsenal by two goals to nil.
29:58George Graham scoring the first goal.
30:00And then Peter Scorey scoring the second one from the penalty spot after a great run by Ray Kennedy.
30:07So a victory that Arsenal will be very happy indeed about.
30:11And a final scoreline here at Highbury that reads Arsenal 2, Leeds United 0.
30:18So Arsenal very happy indeed with the two points they got against Leeds United.
30:21And still to come on the programme today, highlights of Sheffield United against Spurs and Wolves against Everton.
30:36Now this morning's newspapers seem to be sharply divided over two issues at Highbury yesterday.
30:40The News of the World and the People want recognition for Ray Kennedy.
30:44Give Kennedy a cap.
30:45Kennedy set for England.
30:46While the Sunday Express say, well, Arsenal, was it really a penalty?
30:50Two points there for Jimmy Hill.
30:52But above all, Jim, are Arsenal as good as they were?
30:55Well, unlike a few of their supporters up to now, I think that they are.
30:58In fact, I think maybe they're stronger because there's increasing competition for first-team places.
31:02At the back, one young man who's increased that competition even more is John Roberts.
31:06I confess to being a little wrong about him because I thought he was too set, too stiff, too nervous,
31:12really,
31:12to make the kind of player he is at the moment.
31:15Watched just a few of the things he did yesterday.
31:17In the air, of course, he's extremely dominating at the back.
31:20He really blotted Alan Clarke and Belfit out of the game.
31:23They had no chance there.
31:24But on the ground, too, he can go in quickly, nippily, and make the right kind of tackle to prevent
31:30danger.
31:31We pick him up now showing just from a goal kick just how much Alan Clarke was dominated by him.
31:38Almost by this stage of the game, really, he wasn't even getting off the floor.
31:43John Roberts in the air.
31:44Wonderful athlete.
31:45Plenty of confidence.
31:47And really a player to watch for the future.
31:49But more than that, up front, too, John Radford had a game as good a game, really, as I've ever
31:55seen him have.
31:55Superb performance, superb confidence, great speed, and rivalling Chivers, really, for the striker of North London.
32:02Never mind about Kennedy.
32:03He was playing his part to the full.
32:07His shooting impressed me very much indeed.
32:09Just watch this early on as the ball bounces out.
32:12Quick volley on the bar.
32:13And luckily that that didn't take the lead.
32:16And then again this control.
32:17We've seen this a couple of times already, but I think it's worth looking at again.
32:20As the ball comes over, look at the quick control there.
32:23Neat movement and tremendous power in that volley, which hit a post.
32:28But his pace was the thing that really kept Leeds on the hop yesterday.
32:32And determination.
32:33Look at this acceleration.
32:35Nothing's going to stop him getting his foot to that ball first and getting it across.
32:39And once again we get a chance to see the neat control of a big man.
32:43And a quick shot there, which just missed the post.
32:46Radford in splendid form.
32:49And more than that, his partner Kennedy seems to have picked up even extra confidence as a result of last
32:54season's exploits.
32:55Without any doubt this is an extremely dangerous combination.
32:58More dangerous than last season.
33:00Let's look how Kennedy bought about that penalty.
33:03It was disputed.
33:04But we had a camera there in a perfect position behind the goal to judge what happened in this incident.
33:09It's a very strong run.
33:11And he begins to take on two players there.
33:14One continues to chase him.
33:17And then as Rini comes across, just watch, he plays the ball past him.
33:20I think most referees would give this as obstruction, if anything.
33:24And tries to get to the ball.
33:26But in the end, you see, as he puts his foot through there, he goes over the top as Rini
33:32puts his foot through there.
33:33And the ref thought that that was a trip.
33:35I think maybe Arsenal were fractionally lucky to get away with it.
33:38Here's Story now, coming up to convert the penalty.
33:41Just watch what happens here and what a splendid attempt Harvey makes to save it.
33:45He doesn't move too soon.
33:46He does seem to know the way it's going.
33:48I wonder whether he picked that up from television and Stoke last year.
33:52But more than that, Arsenal played some good football.
33:55Maybe in flashes.
33:57Maybe this time in more than flashes.
33:58We've seen some wonderful goals that they've scored as a result of slick 1-2 movements.
34:03I don't think we've seen a better one than the goal that really won them the game yesterday.
34:06Let's take one more look at that, looking at the part that all players played in it.
34:10A mistake there from Jackie Charlton.
34:12I must say I was disappointed when you think all he's done for England, that he was booed at times
34:15yesterday.
34:16But watch now the skill of Arsenal.
34:19Beautiful ball from Kennedy.
34:20Laid off by Graham.
34:22And there's Armstrong, perfectly laying into space.
34:25In case you think the goalkeeper's at fault here in not being able to move his feet,
34:28he's expecting to save it with his hands and his feet are rooted to the floor as that goes through
34:33his legs.
34:34There it is.
34:34The skill and the power of Arsenal creating the goal that won the game.
34:38I'm quite sure, in my own mind, that this season, although they may not achieve as much as last season,
34:43which is almost asking for a further miracle,
34:45that they are going to be a power to be reckoned with.
34:48And I think they're going to provide more football for us to enjoy than we did see from them before.
34:53Well, after that note of optimism for all Arsenal fans from Jimmy Hill,
34:56it's time for some more action and a chance for us, in fact, to look at Everton,
34:59who, like Leeds United, really have been hit hard by injuries this season.
35:03They are, in fact, just four off the bottom of the First Division table.
35:05And yesterday, though, they got a very good point, indeed, against Wolves at Molyneux.
35:09The pictures come from ATV.
35:11The commentator, Hugh Johns.
35:12Wolves are in the lighter shirts.
35:14And watch out now for the booking of Everton goalkeeper Gordon West.
35:21Chance for parking.
35:25The inaccuracy of some of those Wolves passing movements.
35:30Really pretty miserable.
35:34Now, Hegan, Dubin, who's on the side.
35:40That was West, who's going to get booked for that.
35:43A deliberate, deliberately stopping Dubin.
35:49Gordon West, going in the book.
35:52Norman Burton, sure, his sixth booking of the season.
36:02Hurst, banging it forward.
36:04Johnson on the jump.
36:06Kenny now.
36:11Scott.
36:14Ball.
36:16Park in the nod back to Parks.
36:28Scott losing it to Red Star.
36:30The break on.
36:32Hegan in the middle.
36:33There's Hegan.
36:35That'll do it.
36:39Danny Hegan.
36:40One net again for the Wolves.
36:44Danny Hegan's second lead goal for Wolverhampton Wanderers.
36:51And it was quite clear that once Wagstaff had the beating of Scott on that left side,
36:57Hegan trotted through the middle, had no trouble at all.
37:00The goal was there for the taking all the way.
37:06The free kick's been given, of course.
37:08Newton with it.
37:12Alan Ball.
37:13Bill Kenny.
37:15And the referee got a touch.
37:18Nicole gets it in the face.
37:20Derekot down the line for Whittle.
37:26And still.
37:29The pressure on.
37:31Everton's first corner of the game.
37:35See what they make of it.
37:36Alan Whittle.
37:40Alan Ball in with a chance here.
37:42We have it that well.
37:44At number seven, Joe Royal has put it in there.
37:47That's equalizer.
37:5029 minutes in the second half gone.
37:52Alan Ball, a very delighted fellow.
37:55There's the scorer, Joe Royal, and the scoreline.
37:571-1.
38:00Well, Alan Ball really had the best chance from the corner kick of Alan Whittle.
38:05But when he was charged down, easiest scoring chance you ever saw then for Joe Royal as he gets his
38:10first goal of the season.
38:12Well, certainly I don't think anyone can have any doubts that Everton goalkeeper Gordon West deserved to have his name
38:16taken by referee Norman Burton Shaw there.
38:18And I suppose when you consider, too, some of the things that players are booked for these days, that West
38:22might even have been a little lucky not to have been sent off.
38:24Because obviously that incident grossly affected the result of that Wolves-Everton game.
38:38Now we turn to Ferenc Pushkash.
38:40And I was telling you how yesterday he took ten penalties in our on-the-ball programme against Gordon Banks
38:45at Highbury.
38:46And he scored with six of them.
38:48But he did something else as well while we were there filming.
38:50And we thought this might interest you as well.
39:15The wonderful Ferenc Pushkash and his skills.
39:18The police music, of course, because that is a tremendous lesson in football control.
39:22I suppose most professionals watching would say, well, I can do that as well.
39:25Well, maybe they can.
39:26But remember, Pushkash went from the edge of the penalty area to the goal line, never really hurrying his stride,
39:32always with the ball firmly under control.
39:34You try that for yourself.
39:36Our last action today, in fact, and for that we have Spurs.
39:39They went north yesterday to the new league leaders, Sheffield United.
39:42Really, I suppose it was a case of the new Masters meeting the old Masters.
39:46The pictures come from Yorkshire Television.
39:48Commentator Keith Macklin and Sheffield United are in the stripes.
39:52Trying to chip it over for Deirdon, but again, the figure of England is there.
39:56Helped on by Peters.
39:58Hockey.
40:01Badger.
40:02Woodward.
40:03Good move this by Sheffield.
40:05Put across.
40:11Ted Hensley couldn't really get hold of that.
40:15Tried to stab it in, but got no power behind it.
40:23And it looks as if, yet again, the whistle has gone.
40:27Pat Jennings may well have been penalised.
40:41Pat Jennings taking the ball just out of the area.
40:47Corrie chipping it over.
40:49Flynn was moving in.
40:50And it's a goal.
40:52It's a goal.
40:53It's there.
40:54Scrum.
40:54It's coming to the rim.
40:56It looks like an own goal by one of the Spurs defenders.
41:00And Matt talking to a goalkeeper there.
41:03Joe Kinnear, I think, an own goal.
41:10But whoever put the finishing touches to it in 38 minutes, Sheffield United have gone into the lead.
41:19We're in injury time of the first half.
41:23And what an eventful first half this has been.
41:31Still the Spurs looking for that equaliser.
41:35Shivers going out to take this specialist long throw.
41:39And they can afford to do without him in the middle.
41:41As the ball comes over, Gilzeen netting it backwards and penalised for pushing.
41:49Alan Gilzeen.
41:50Alan Gilzeen.
42:43A superb header by Martin Peters, a beautifully flighted cross, and Peters, as so often he has done, for both
42:51West Ham United and for Spurs and for England, was in the right position. A beautifully placed header.
43:11Chivers, that ball bouncing over the top of Cahoon.
43:20A good ball to Perryman. The angle's tight. My word, that was pretty close. Perryman, a very sharp angle, put
43:27that one on the top of the netting.
43:29Young Steve Perryman, this teenager who came to the forefront last season, chipped that one just over the top.
43:58A bad bit of misdirection there.
44:00Between Perryman and Mulleray, this is Sammons. Good chip. Scullion!
44:06He's there! Wonderful goal! What a superb goal!
44:13Sammons, the centre. Little towards Scullion. Perfectly placed header. And Sheffield United go back into the lead.
44:23We're in the last minute of this game. We're in the last minute of this game. And what a marvellous
44:26match it's been.
44:35Emesley.
44:40Hockey getting up as we're in injury time.
44:44This is Woodward, boring in on goal, trying to get his right foot in action. He prefers that right foot.
44:50Oh, and he almost got it past Jennings. Jennings wasn't at all confident with that.
44:57He got it round the... I think the pace of the ball deceived him. He expected a much harder shot
45:01than that.
45:03May have mistimed his dive, but he got it round the post.
45:19That ball's sailing across the area, and way to the right.
45:27Well, obviously, Sheffield United aren't in any hurry to get rid of the ball.
45:35Spurs, of course, are. They must realise the seconds are ticking away for them.
45:42Pratt, Peters. Peters pushing a long one for Chivers to chase.
45:47And Cahoon walloping it away. Not a man for half measures.
45:53Certainly not at a time like this.
45:56But it spurs on the attack, and what a finish it would be if they equalised.
46:02Here's Chivers with a long throw, this last desperate throw, quite literally, of Tottenham Hotspur.
46:08Chivers right into the middle.
46:10Peters ahead her, and is it there?
46:13It's a goal, they've done it!
46:15And the man who's done it, Alan Gilzead, what a beautifully word move.
46:19Chivers the throw, Peters ahead her, and right on the line is Gilzead.
46:24To put the finishing touches, well, what a dramatic way to finish the game.
46:28A carbon copy of the first half, with a goal in the dying seconds of the half.
46:36Significant thing about both those Spurs goals, Martin Peters winning balls beautifully in the air.
46:40He really does seem to be having a fine season for the Spurs.
46:42That's it from the programme today, hope you've enjoyed it.
46:44We leave you, of course, with action.
46:46That George Graham go for Arsenal against Leeds yesterday.
46:49The wonderful 1-2.
46:52Kennedy following it up quickly, and George Graham in there.
46:55A lovely 1-2 with Armstrong, Graham again, and a goal!
46:59George Graham!
47:00Let's get him down!
47:00Let's go!
47:04Let's go!
47:05Let's go!
47:05We are going to let him stand by...
47:06Yeah!
