00:30Welcome again to the big match, and what a line-up we've got for you today.
00:34Three really outstanding First Division games, and 12 new goals for you to enjoy.
00:38Some of them quite superb, one or two of them, I must say, just plain crazy.
00:42Our main match is Spurs against Everton.
00:47Oh, a good cross by Neyver.
00:49Oh, a point saved by West.
00:52Also, Leeds against Leicester.
00:54And beautiful play by Cooper.
00:56And Manchester City against Manchester United.
01:00Porrigan's come off his line, have got a foot to it, but goling.
01:02And off the line by Oates.
01:04And that City United match must go down now as one of the greatest Manchester derbies for many, many years.
01:10But first of all, that game yesterday at White Hart Lane, also a very good one between Spurs and Everton,
01:16which brought two old England chums together for the toss-up.
01:19Martin Peters captaining Spurs in the absence of the injured Alan Mullery.
01:22Now, John Pratt gets the number four shirt for Spurs, and with Ralph Coates still out of action,
01:27Jimmy Naber continues at number seven.
01:30So that's the Spurs line-up, then, as we turn to Everton.
01:33Alan Ball is captain, having recently recovered from a troublesome groin injury.
01:37Mostly familiar names here, except, of course, John McLaughlin, bought a month ago from Falkirk.
01:42The referee today, George Hartley from Yorkshire, his first ever game at Tottenham.
01:46Among the 40,000 crowd, Sir Alf Bramson.
01:49So Everton to kick off, defending the goal to our right in their blue shirts with white shorts.
01:54Everton with no wins away from home this season.
01:57Spurs unbeaten here at White Hart Lane.
02:05But Everton now playing with so much more conviction that Alan Ball is back and fit in their side.
02:13But it's young John Pratt in for the injured Alan Mullery, with the throw for Spurs.
02:19Mike England to allow that to go over for the goal kick.
02:28Jennings with the kick.
02:36Ball.
02:37Harvey under great pressure there from Pratt, but Harvey getting away with it.
02:41And now Evans.
02:43Down he goes.
02:44Evans, who in fact is in the place of Kinnear.
02:48And Harvey getting a sharp word from referee Hartley.
02:51Incidentally, this is the referee's first match ever at White Hart Lane.
03:00Yorkshireman Hartley.
03:02And Ray Evans with Spurs free kick.
03:05A deep one towards Gilzean.
03:06Gilzean getting a head to him.
03:08Peters getting behind him.
03:09Chivers right in there.
03:11And my goodness.
03:13It was nearly Noles getting in there for the shot.
03:19Shot loose!
03:20Shot loose!
03:22Shot loose!
03:24Shot loose!
03:25Gilzean.
03:33Gordon West, who lost his place last season to Andy Rankin.
03:41Off the head of England.
03:42But into the arms of Jennings.
03:44Come on, Cotter!
03:46Get back!
03:47Gilzean to chase this one.
03:49McLaughlin there.
03:49And Kenyon also.
03:51Harvey.
03:53McLaughlin
03:55straight to Gilzean and McLaughlin
03:56recovering quickly
04:05Peters
04:05to Noles
04:09cut out by Ball
04:11neat little flick there by Ball
04:17and our neighbour
04:23oh a good cross by Naber
04:26one save by West
04:27from John Pratt
04:30Pratt was in there
04:31with a beautiful header
04:32and West did all that Everton asked him
04:38not giving Peters
04:39too much chance there
04:40oh and that certainly gave Beale no chance
04:43Husband now with Royal right up with him
04:45Husband and down goes
04:47Jennings
04:50picked that out with no trouble at all
05:01Naber turned in nicely for Peters
05:05Naber
05:07maybe a chance to cross it
05:08preparing to take on his man
05:10and beat him
05:11and a nice cross there for Pratt
05:12oh no
05:13John Pratt
05:15and a beautiful goal it was
05:24good work by Naber in the first place
05:26a nice little cross
05:29and Pratt there to finish it off
05:37so Spurs a goal up after 20 minutes
05:41through John Pratt
05:51throw to Everton
05:57Hurst has come forward
05:59not often that he does
06:02ball
06:04Royal
06:06and now Peters to take it up for Tottenham
06:08and a long one
06:08to send Chivers away
06:10and West has come roaring out of his goal
06:12and he's done it
06:15sliding on his rear end for a good five yards
06:20who seem to be very busy
06:21in the first five or ten minutes of the game
06:23we haven't seen too much of Colin Harvey
06:24since then
06:25and it is at the moment
06:26in the middle of the field
06:26where Spurs are looking to better prospect
06:31Beale
06:37Gilzeen
06:38nodding that off
06:38very definitely indeed
06:40for Evans
06:42cross again towards Gilzeen
06:44the back header
06:44Peters trying to get in
06:46and down Bills West
06:48Kenyon claiming there was a handball there
06:54but nothing given
07:00Husband now
07:01trying to fasten on that back header
07:02from Royal
07:03leaving it there for Henry Hilton
07:04to hit one
07:15now Chivers
07:20Thunder in the back there by Royal
07:21but Chivers kept possession
07:23and that's what counted in the eyes of the referee
07:25and that was Kenyon taking Gilzeen
07:27and I would have thought
07:28a little lucky to get away with that
07:29but now ball
07:31to Morrissey
07:35Newton
07:37but too hard for anyone up front
07:45but again a lot of aimless long balls
07:47being kicked out of defence
07:48which the forwards still don't seem to be able to cope with
07:53and the back header there by Joe Royal
07:54the whistle that signals the end of the first half
07:57and Spurs leading with a goal scored by John Pratt
08:00no it's not half time
08:02players thought for a moment it was half time
08:04but instead of that it's a free kick to Everton
08:07Henry Newton to take it
08:15and Evans to knock it away
08:16and now we do get the whistle for half time
08:20Spurs leading by that goal from John Pratt
08:23scored after 20 minutes
08:25still to come for you to enjoy the big match this afternoon
08:27is that massive Manchester derby
08:29between Manchester City and Manchester United
08:31a lot more besides
08:33but the half time score here at White Hart Lane
08:35is Tottenham Hotspur 1
08:38Everton 0
08:39and we'll be back with you in a couple of minutes
08:53so Spurs get us away at the start of the second half
08:56against an Everton side
08:57that certainly in the first half
08:58showed little of the better form
09:00that we've been led to believe
09:01that they had been showing over the past couple of weeks
09:04looking very much like a side that is lying 17th in the first division
09:07with only four league wins to their credit all season
09:09as Knowles puts that one across for Peters
09:12but a throw to Tottenham
09:14and Chivers already making his advance towards that touchline
09:19Mike England again got into the area
09:23Peters and Gilzean are also there
09:26two devastating headers of the ball
09:29Gilzean going towards this one
09:32Chivers
09:36played there for Perryman and played again for Chivers
09:38and he tried one on the volley
09:40which if it had come off
09:41would have been such a spectacular goal
09:43but the angle was sharp
09:45and the skill was a very difficult one
09:52certainly Everton at the moment
09:53looking a shadow of some of the great sides
09:54that they have brought down to London over the past few years
09:56Morrissey
10:00and a corner
10:01indeed it is
10:06and Everton now pumping a few men forward
10:08because both Hurst and Kenyon are coming forward for this one
10:10number 10 Hurst you can see there
10:12and there's Kenyon also
10:13there's Hurst with Peters
10:14here's the corner
10:16Royal trying to duck in there
10:17Alan Ball
10:19and it still wouldn't come
10:20no and then it wouldn't come
10:22as Kenyon went in hard on it
10:25and there must have been a deflection off a Spurs defender
10:30the ball's got to be inside that crescent
10:36and the two big men from the defensive stayed up
10:38there's the corner again
10:40Royal looking for that one with his head
10:41ball is right in there
10:42but he hasn't got the inches
10:44Neighbors got the feet
10:45but it's not away
10:46Chivers
10:47and Pratt
10:50back there again though
10:51Royal to lay it off there
10:52for Kenyon to hit it first time
10:53but over that Spurs crossbar
10:56but really the first bit of sustained pressure
10:58that Spurs have had on their goal
10:59for practically the whole of the game
11:01Roger Kenyon will over the bar though
11:20Royal certainly taking a nudge from behind there
11:22by Mike England
11:23but the referee didn't spot it
11:24on Spurs
11:24oh Chivers over that right foot
11:26and a beautiful goal by Chivers
11:31give him a chance like that
11:33and he so rarely fails
11:35a really wonderful shot there by Martin Chivers
11:41crushing it there past Gordon West
11:47beautifully taken goal by the big man
11:52making it 19 in the season for him
11:54and 2 this afternoon for Spurs
11:58well West at least
11:59can be resigned by the fact
12:00that he had no chance with that
12:04in fact there's a bit of a stoppage there
12:06Joe Royal
12:08when Spurs took possession of that
12:10Mike England in fact
12:11went in on the back of Joe Royal
12:12and I think maybe
12:14conceivably a little lucky
12:15to get away with it
12:16the referee didn't spot it
12:21and Spurs took possession
12:23and never lost it
12:24until it was in the back of that Everton net
12:37so really emphasizing once again
12:38that Everton at the moment
12:40looking but a shadow
12:41from the great sides
12:42that they've brought to London
12:43over the last few years
12:46and Spurs now rampant
12:48as Jimmy Naber takes it up
12:49Chivers inside him
12:50Peters going outside him
12:52that's the one for Peters
12:55Noles
12:57and the cross there towards Gilzean
12:59playing it back there for Perryman
13:01to hit it
13:01just past that Everton post
13:06a real whiplash move again by Tottenham
13:09Perryman steaming up unnoticed
13:13England
13:14but not as dominant as usual
13:16ball there
13:16trying to lay it off to Royal
13:17Royal is down
13:18ball is in there
13:19trying to flick it towards that goal
13:21Gilzean
13:22oh put it straight back
13:23into the danger area
13:24ball once more
13:27Newton
13:30McLaughlin
13:34and now Morrissey
13:37making again the right sort of angle
13:39for the cross as Royal goes in
13:40this time with a foot
13:41and the goal
13:42but it's not given
13:43not given
13:46husband in fact
13:47who banged it in
13:51Gilzean
13:52Perryman
13:53Chivers with his head
13:54to lay it off for Peters
13:57fade again for Gilzean
13:58for Chivers
14:00and now for Nathan
14:04Knowles
14:05and he got that across
14:07very well
14:08across round over
14:09from Cyril Knowles
14:14he was challenged by two Everton defenders
14:16with no space at all
14:17and yet he got across
14:18a very good looking centre indeed
14:29oh what a bad one
14:32Chivers
14:33oh and West
14:34and a goal
14:35yes it's given
14:36no dangers
14:38and Gordon West
14:39has only got himself to blame
14:41what a bad clearance
14:43straight to Gilzean
14:46Gilzean to Chivers
14:47and that was it
14:49well West must be furious
14:51with himself for that
14:53a terrible clearance
14:54and that one two
14:56from Spurs
14:58off West's body
14:59and it is in it
15:06and now Perryman
15:09played for Pratt
15:19Perryman again
15:20always in the thick of it
15:21in the middle of the field
15:22for Spurs
15:22and Peters too
15:23and now for Knowles
15:24to Neva
15:31beaten though
15:31by a combination
15:32of husband and ball
15:33now it's with Alan Ball
15:36there's a goal
15:37losing it there
15:38it's not been a particularly
15:39happy afternoon for him
15:41and now Knowles
15:43trying to get Chivers away again
15:45oh and Kenyon
15:46almost putting it past
15:46his goalkeeper
15:47and again confusion
15:49in that Everton defence
15:57Tommy Wright
15:58Royal
16:00Wright going on
16:01Wright trying to get a shot
16:02oh and almost a goal
16:03into his own goal
16:04from the other end there
16:05by Martin Peters
16:13Harvey
16:17the Everton substitute
16:18Howard Kendall
16:19warming up on the far side
16:21Harvey
16:23playing it through again
16:24and McLaughlin right in there
16:25with a chance
16:25hit it against the body
16:27of Jennings
16:29he got in there
16:30without anybody
16:31seeing him at all
16:35ball
16:35played first time
16:37under that
16:38crossbar of Jennings
16:42Howard Kendall
16:43warming up
16:45Royal
16:49Newton
16:50and husband
16:53England
16:55Jivers
16:55trying to get away
16:56from Hurst
16:56and Hurst
16:57following him
16:57for all he's worth
17:02now it's going to be
17:03Morrissey I think
17:03who goes off
17:04on the far side
17:04Morrissey in fact
17:05now hobbling off
17:07and Howard Kendall
17:08who's on
17:12Royal
17:17watched so closely
17:18by Mike England
17:19but evidence throw
17:22Newton with it
17:24Royal
17:26Newton
17:26hitting it straight
17:27at Royal
17:28and it's Noles
17:31Chivers
17:34Neighbour
17:34what a game
17:35is Neighbour's having
17:37Peters
17:38for Neighbour again
17:39oh played up
17:40delicately there
17:41for Peters
17:41a beautiful piece of play
17:43Pratt is running in hard
17:44and McLaughlin
17:45was in hard as well
17:46and Kenyon
17:47got there before
17:48any of them
17:51so good evidence
17:52on that occasion
17:54and a really
17:55sparkling Tottenham
17:56move down the left
17:57involving
17:58Peters and Neighbour
18:00what a great game
18:01Jimmy Neighbour's having
18:02now with a quarter
18:06Gilzean to flick it on
18:08and now Pratt
18:09will get a shot in
18:10but he is
18:11but it's too high
18:17McLaughlin
18:19Royal
18:23oh that fell nicely
18:25for Steve
18:25Perryman
18:26Pratt turning it on
18:27nicely for
18:28Alan Gilzean
18:29Chivers in the middle
18:32Evans hitting it
18:32first time
18:33under that crossbar
18:34he gave him no
18:35one for error at all
18:37and Chivers getting in
18:39the way of Neighbour
18:41but that wasn't a very
18:42good piece of goalkeeping
18:43again by Gordon West
18:44allowing that ball to
18:45go under the crossbar
18:46like that
18:46he had so long
18:47to line it up
18:49Evans
18:52gently and neatly
18:53back to Jennings
18:59Neighbour
19:02checking out on ball
19:03that gave him a fair bit
19:04of pleasure I would think
19:06feeding ball again
19:07and finding Perryman
19:13Evans
19:16good looking cross
19:17towards Gilzean
19:19back and past that post
19:21the linesman kept his flag
19:22down and West
19:23felt that Gilzean
19:24was offside
19:26looks like he may have
19:27done his shoulder
19:28no good
19:30one of those devastating
19:32near post crosses
19:34that want just a glance
19:35and Gilzean gave it
19:36that glance
19:43Evans
19:44oh a bad ball there
19:45straight to Howard
19:46Kendall
19:46Alan ball
19:49McLaughlin
19:52Royal
19:56misunderstanding there
19:57Joe Royal
19:58and now McLaughlin
19:59oh just past
20:00the Tottenham post
20:03that's twice
20:04John McLaughlin
20:05has been right up there
20:06in that Spurs
20:07penalty area
20:07once he thundered
20:08a shot against
20:09Jennings body
20:09and then just a fraction
20:11wide with the second one
20:14now McLaughlin
20:22Newton
20:25Hurst
20:29England again making the running
20:30for that one and getting his head there
20:33Peters delicately off there
20:34for neighbour
20:35equally delicately back to Peters
20:36and a lovely ball out there
20:37to Chivers
20:38and away goes Chivers
20:40the referee's given offside though
20:42against Alan Gilzean
20:43who was right up there with him
20:54Tommy Wright
21:04ball
21:05oh a nice arrogant little flick there though
21:07for Tommy Wright
21:08crossed first time
21:09and once more Spurs
21:10this time Evans
21:11was there for them
21:15ball with the throw
21:17and Wright again
21:18giving ball little room
21:20and he's given in turn
21:22Tommy Wright little room
21:23but the ball going off
21:24neighbour
21:24for the corner
21:28Kenyon's gone up
21:29Hurst is already there
21:30ball with the corner
21:33and another corner
21:42lower one this time
21:43Joe Royal hoping to turn it back
21:45and Pat Jennings
21:46a wonderful save
21:51he really is the master
21:52of those one-handed saves
21:53tremendous great hands
21:55he's got for hands
21:55Pat Jennings
21:58husband
21:59long sweeping ball there
22:01for Royal to take in his stride
22:02but England has conceded
22:04nothing against Joe Royal
22:05so far this afternoon
22:06but there's a good shot
22:12really minimum of effort
22:13there from Joe Royal
22:15taking that beautifully
22:16on his stride
22:22Perryman going in quickly
22:23Pratt
22:24bit like a pin table
22:25in there at the moment
22:29now Newton
22:32Wright
22:35Royal
22:41still Joe Royal
22:43Newton
22:44Kendall
22:45better looking
22:46Everton move now
22:47as Spurs come
22:48funnelling back
22:48Tommy Wright in possession
22:49Royal
22:51Beal's turn to take him
22:57Evidence throw
22:58we're now in injury time
23:04Royal
23:06Kendall
23:08the deep cross again
23:09and England once more
23:11on the end of it
23:11McLaughlin going in
23:14and husband
23:15and McLaughlin
23:16and kicked
23:17lay off the ground
23:18my goodness
23:20how cool can you get
23:22Cyril Knowles
23:25he stopped it on the line
23:27he stopped it on the line
23:27he looked as though he was
23:27prepared to try one or two
23:28skills before he cleared it
23:30and there goes the final whistle
23:32the final flourish
23:33and a fine second half
23:34by Tottenham
23:35thoroughly deserving it
23:37with those two second half goals
23:38by Martin Jivers
23:39one a classic
23:40and one a gift
23:41to add to the first half goal
23:43by John Pratt
23:44a very disappointing
23:45performance indeed
23:47by Everton
23:48but a fine performance
23:50in the second half
23:50by Spurs
23:51and so the final score here
23:53at White Hart Lane
23:54this afternoon
23:55is Tottenham
23:56Hot Spurs 3
23:58Everton 0
24:10Incidentally that's the big match's
24:11third visit to Tottenham
24:12this season
24:13and in that time
24:13Spurs have scored
24:14no fewer than 12 goals
24:16and I wonder some of the players
24:16afterwards were saying
24:17when are you coming again
24:18well still to come today
24:20on the big match
24:20that tremendous Manchester derby
24:22City against United
24:23the goals from Leeds
24:24against Leicester
24:25but now here's Jimmy Hill
24:26to take a closer look
24:26at that Tottenham performance
24:28yesterday
24:28well in fact not only
24:29when we go to Spurs
24:30do they score goals
24:31but they produce vintage football
24:32as they did yesterday
24:33if they have a bad performance
24:34it seems that the big match
24:35misses it
24:36I thoroughly enjoyed
24:38their crisp
24:38short passing style
24:39vintage Spurs stuff
24:41at its best
24:42the big men yesterday
24:43Martin Peters
24:44was in his usual form
24:45and right bang on
24:47song
24:47Martin Chivers
24:48I thought
24:49wasn't quite at his best
24:50although even
24:51not at his best
24:52he can still score
24:53a couple of goals
24:54but it was the small men
24:55if they'll excuse me
24:55calling them that yesterday
24:56John Pratt and Jimmy Neighbour
24:58who really took everyone's eye
25:00Spurs reserves
25:01young players in the making
25:03and it was a pleasure
25:04to see them producing
25:05this kind of form
25:06first of all
25:06we pick up Jimmy Neighbour
25:07and he shows here
25:09his extraordinary balance
25:10how he can fall
25:11and he's still up quickly
25:12and also the improvement
25:13in his laying of the ball off
25:15again resisting tackles
25:17challenging for it
25:18lovely first time ball there
25:20through from Cyril Knowles
25:21and see the weight of this pass
25:23down the line
25:23on the overlap
25:24Perryman was offside
25:25but Neighbour is improving
25:27in his laying off
25:28now he wins the ball
25:29in for me
25:30the most classical move
25:31of the game
25:32first time up the line
25:33from Peters
25:33and there's a left foot layoff
25:35right in the space
25:36left for Peters to collect
25:38a really lovely piece
25:40of football to watch
25:40but he spent all the game
25:42tormenting Tommy Wright
25:43here he makes a challenge
25:45and deservedly gets the ball back
25:47look at this skill
25:48and a good left foot cross
25:50that goes just over Gilzean's head
25:52now back to the first half again
25:54and where they nearly
25:55the combination of Neighbour
25:56and Pratt
25:57one clever dribble
25:58nearly put Spurs in the lead
26:00but a fine save there
26:01from Gordon West
26:02prevented it
26:03but in the end
26:04it was exactly the combination
26:05of these two young players
26:07that started Spurs on the road
26:09fainting to come inside
26:10going onto that left foot again
26:12a beautiful cross
26:13this time a glancing header
26:15from John Pratt
26:15and Spurs a one-up
26:17a really pleasant performance
26:19to watch from
26:20two such young players
26:21from Spurs Soccer Academy
26:22I must mention
26:24two defenders
26:24they don't often get a mention
26:25Cyril Knowles
26:26because it was the kind of game
26:28where everything went right for him
26:29and ended with that
26:30ice-cool clearance off the line
26:32and also Philip Beal
26:33because not only yesterday
26:35but in recent matches
26:36he's been so positive
26:37and sure in his play
26:38and a rock in the middle
26:39of the Spurs depends
26:40now we have some more action for you
26:42and it comes from Leeds United
26:43it's Leeds United against Leicester
26:45at Ellen Road
26:45where the commentator is Keith Macklin
26:47and Leicester are in the dark shirts
26:48but first of all
26:49I want you to look at
26:50what we consider
26:51to be a bad tackle
26:52by Johnny Giles
26:53where you might well say
26:54are we playing by the interpretation
26:56of last year's laws
26:57or this year's
27:00Leicester move forward
27:02and that
27:02and yet another foul
27:04this time
27:04by Madeley
27:07now Giles
27:08Giles
27:09Giles the man being spoken to
27:12Giles on
27:13Birchenall
27:16it's a free kick to Leicester City
27:20that one hitting Cooper
27:21and Birchenall
27:22high in the air
27:23Sprake watching it
27:24just in case
27:24and it nearly did
27:25creep up the bar
27:26it's a goal by Brown
27:27that one crept underneath the bar
27:30the Sprake went to punch it
27:32Brown was there
27:33I thought he did
27:34well
27:35whether you call that lucky or not
27:38there's Sprake
27:39that ball went towering
27:40high in the air
27:41from Birchenall
27:42Gary Sprake didn't know
27:44whether he was going to drop
27:44one for more or not
27:50brings it under control
27:52Lorimer
27:53Jordan is in the middle
27:55this Grey
27:56Grey trying to dribble his way through
27:58and doing it so far
27:59and doing it so far
27:59Grevner
28:03Grey and Grevner
28:06Grevner the man
28:07pushed up into the attack
28:08as always in a crisis
28:10Eddie Grey
28:11that brilliant dribbler of a ball
28:13pushing it to him
28:14Grevner didn't quite get to it
28:16the first time
28:17but finally
28:18stabbed it underneath children
28:19and it's 1-1
28:27Greene getting up well
28:29giving Jordan a chance to run
28:31Whitworth
28:32to Brevner
28:35trying to win a corner
28:37Jordan
28:38saw that well
28:39to Grey
28:42Grey now mesmerising them again
28:44across the goal
28:45he's there
28:46what a lot of people
28:47are going to touch
28:49Grey
28:49a superb low pass
28:52there's Grey
28:53the man who made the first
28:54and the second
28:58there's Lorimer
28:59running out of frame
29:11now we come to the match
29:12that really has been labelled
29:13the match of the season
29:15and it lived up to it
29:16Manchester City
29:17against Manchester United
29:18at Main Road
29:19with a full house
29:19of 63,000
29:21the cameras came from
29:22Granada Television
29:23the commentator is Gerald Sinstat
29:25stand by for a match
29:26full of atmosphere
29:27and goals
29:29today's referee
29:30is Mr Ray Tinkler
29:31from Boston
29:32in Lincolnshire
29:33and the flag waving
29:35and stud inspecting
29:37is being done
29:37by Mr Garner
29:38from Liverpool
29:39and Mr Brooks
29:39from Sutton in Ashfield
29:40the teams have changed ends
29:42and so it's Manchester City
29:44in the white shorts
29:45and light blue tops
29:48Manchester United
29:49in the dark socks
29:50which may be the best identification
29:52United kicking
29:53from right to left
29:54number seven here
29:55Mike Somerville
29:56Bell close to him
29:58Tommy O'Neill
29:59sticking to his task well
30:01and giving away
30:02the opening corner
30:03in the first 30 seconds
30:04actually Tony Dunham was
30:10Somerville with the corner
30:15and that was Doyle's header
30:21and for Lee
30:23and again
30:27it's one of those awkward balls
30:28he didn't know where it was
30:30but he might well have scored there
30:36United left an awful lot of responsibility
30:38on Skepney
30:39on Skepney
30:45Book
30:48Bell
30:49lovely work by Bell
30:50he's made himself a chance
30:52and Somerville
30:53and Skepney covers
30:55Colin Bell
31:03Dowling
31:03a wild tackle by Book
31:07and he's going to be
31:08booked for it
31:23Doyle's header
31:24Davis
31:27Mellor
31:29Dunnocky breaking down the left
31:36intercepted by James
31:40good work
31:41by McIlroy
31:43Kidd is free on the left
31:45McIlroy must give it to him now
31:51now the landsman is black
31:53for the foul on Best
31:54but the referee had whistled
31:56for the foul
31:57on McIlroy
31:58before it
32:01Francis Lee
32:02getting the wall right
32:03so that Joe Corrigan
32:04by the
32:05far upright
32:07can have a sight of the ball
32:11Kidd for Charlton
32:13off the wall
32:14Charlton got a rebound
32:16Best
32:16this is dangerous
32:22nearly half an hour gone
32:24and George Best
32:25explodes into action
32:26really for the first time
32:27in this game
32:41Somerby's throw
32:42Lee chasing hard
32:43and going over that tackle
32:44from James brilliantly
32:46and a great cross
32:52Stepney is injured
32:53he made a brave dive
32:55and so did
32:56Wynn Davis
32:57but the credit there
32:59was all for
33:00Francis Lee
33:07Best
33:11and Francis Lee
33:13is going to be booked for that
33:24and he's suggesting
33:26absolutely graphically
33:27that it was a dive
33:35well Mr. Tinker was very close to it
33:37from this distance
33:38I must say
33:39I've seen worse this season
33:40boom
33:47Lee Morgan
33:48the dummy
33:50he's just got himself
33:51into more trouble
33:51no he hasn't
33:52he's made a good cross
33:53and that was
33:54box header
33:54Charlton
33:55another one on West
34:01Tony Gump
34:03letting fly
34:08Best
34:12Somerby
34:13to Lee
34:15still Lee
34:21holding up the challenge
34:22well
34:24Book
34:26and he's made space
34:30Mellor
34:38McElroy
34:39to Best
34:41the crowd not liking it
34:43because they think
34:44that he got Lee booked
34:46kids cross
34:47O'Neill
34:48Best
34:49and McElroy
35:00what a day
35:01for the young Irishman
35:10and a really beautiful goal
35:12it was
35:13Best
35:13taking it here
35:14and then just checking it
35:16as the challenge comes
35:17now this is the set up
35:18giving it out wide
35:19to Kidd
35:20and kids cross
35:22comes in
35:22just checked
35:23by O'Neill
35:24stopped by Best
35:25and put in the neck
35:26by McElroy
35:31wild
35:32wild
35:33swing
35:33there by O'Neill
35:35which is going to get him
35:36booked
35:37so that's three names now
35:39Franco Farrell
35:40and Malcolm Musgrove
35:41the new men
35:42at Manchester United
35:43Francis Lee
35:47chip forward for Bell
35:49that could have been it
35:52Stepney got out
35:53well to Smother
35:55and Manchester United
35:56begin the second half
35:58with substitute
35:58John Aston
35:59on in place of
36:00Tony Dunn
36:01helped off just
36:02before the interval
36:03Aston now going to
36:04have his studs checked
36:06by Mr. Tinker
36:09Mr. Tinker
36:10quite satisfied
36:12and it looks as though
36:13Aston may well be
36:15lining up in
36:16Tony Dunn's position
36:17to do a job
36:18as a
36:19short notice
36:21fullback
36:25as Doyle's long ball
36:28James clearance
36:29Lee
36:37best beaten by
36:38Book's tackle
36:39now Aston
36:44Oaks back to
36:45Corrigan
36:51Manchester United
36:52leading by
36:53one goal to nil
36:56and no doubt
36:57much encouraged
36:58by the way
36:59they resisted
37:00City's initial
37:01challenge
37:01in the first
37:0225 minutes
37:06Summerby
37:10Davis
37:12headed away
37:13by James
37:13McIlroy
37:16Kidd
37:22McIlroy couldn't
37:23change direction
37:23in time
37:25dowling to
37:26Bobby Charlton
37:26best free on the
37:27left
37:27here he is
37:28put in by a
37:29good pass
37:29from Charlton
37:31McIlroy steps over
37:32and Kidd scores
37:33no trouble
37:41Manchester City in
37:42absolute disarray
37:53all starting with that
37:55pass from Charlton to
37:56best
37:57McIlroy lets it go on
37:59and nobody picking up
38:00Kidd at all
38:02really Manchester City's
38:04defence there
38:05virtually non-existent
38:09Brian Kidd the
38:10scorer
38:10his fourth goal
38:11of the season
38:12and Manchester City
38:13now with a long
38:14road to run
38:17Key
38:18Doyle's header
38:22fine header
38:23it was too
38:30Doyle
38:32Summerby
38:36Cook
38:39Francis Lee
38:40pushing it on
38:41for Miller
38:45Lee
38:54Francis Lee
38:55would have been
38:56a mite offended
38:56if he hadn't
38:57got that one
39:02the chance for
39:04Francis Lee
39:05to score his
39:06seventh penalty
39:07of the season
39:07and bring his
39:08total
39:09to 14 goals
39:11and to put
39:12Manchester City
39:13back into the
39:14game
39:16that's the
39:17weight
39:18on Lee's
39:19shoulders
39:19and it
39:20doesn't
39:20worry
39:20him
39:21in the
39:21least
39:3213 minutes
39:33of the
39:33second
39:34half
39:34gone
39:35and again
39:36alive
39:38and bubbling
39:39with
39:39possibilities
39:56me
39:57beautiful
39:58ball
39:59for Bell! Here it is!
40:21One of the hits from the Malcolm Allison songbook.
40:352-2 the score line.
40:37And difficult to hear yourself think about this crowd now.
40:45Kidd.
41:05Manchester City absolutely rampant now.
41:08Somerby!
41:11What a game of football this is turning out to be.
41:22Gwyn Davis!
41:24To the bell!
41:28Mellon!
41:33O'Neill getting as put to the ball for a corner.
41:42This is hardly the game that Tommy O'Neill came into at the back end of last season.
41:47When United won here 4-3 in what was really an academic exercise.
41:53This one really matters.
41:58Davis!
41:59Got away by Gowley.
42:03A dive by Vest.
42:05Boo!
42:07Morgan.
42:12Oaks.
42:28Donerkey.
42:32Somebody needs to cool it down.
42:35Oh no.
42:35This ball needs controlling.
42:38Aston.
42:39Kier.
42:46Vest.
42:49Vest is away.
42:51Morgan out here absolutely unmarked.
42:54Corrigan's come off his line.
42:55Have got a foot to it but Gowley.
42:57And off the line by Oaks.
43:07Well Alan Oaks.
43:10May have been missing once or twice when it mattered earlier on.
43:14But what a failure he was to his side then.
43:22Bobby Charlton with the corner.
43:27Corrigan's fist.
43:28Aston.
43:29And it's gone in off London.
43:44Absolute bird adventure by John Aston and it struck somebody on the way through.
43:49It may have been Alan Gowling.
43:50He seemed to get the congratulations.
43:55off.
44:01Just under five minutes to go.
44:04City now must find some reserves of energy from somewhere.
44:11Summerbee.
44:12Somerby. Good shot!
44:24Mike Somerby, a magnificent shot, but you will go a long, long way before you'll see a better save of
44:31that from Stepney.
44:37Stepney there outside his far post having really produced the save of the match and one of the saves of
44:43the season.
44:44And he's there again and lost it! Somerby!
45:02And that's how I finished 3-3. Well that's all today, hope you've enjoyed it.
45:05Last week we left you with a young man who came into the West Ham side, Addy Coker.
45:09This week, two young understudies, Sammy McElroy of Manchester United and John Pratt of Spurs.
45:16Our congratulations to them.
45:17Kids cross, O'Neal, Best and McElroy!
45:24Then he had a chance to cross it, preparing to take on his man and beat him.
45:27And a nice cross there for Pratt!
45:29Oh no! John Pratt!
45:32And a beautiful goal it was!
46:03But it was a big advantage, and it was a good humanity that was on the ground.
46:04You think it was beautiful?
