00:01This program documents actual homicide investigations.
00:05Criminal charges are often dropped or reduced, and all suspects shown are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
00:20Just before midnight, in the Norcross neighborhood.
00:26When accounting, I want one application of your emergency.
00:30I'm at the Horizon Hotel off of Dawson, and there's a gunshot.
00:35Somebody's shooting me.
00:36Somebody's screaming outside that he just got shot.
00:39Planet County 9-1-1.
00:41Jerk's fired, cool thing, jerk's fired.
00:44He's on the floor, he's dying.
00:46He's getting there, he's getting there.
00:48Is he still breathing?
00:50He's dying, y'all police!
00:57Hi!
00:59Hey!
01:00Hey!
01:00Let me get up!
01:00Be careful, please let me stop it in there.
01:02The police are here!
01:03Yeah, that's it!
01:04Everybody move out, there's a 10, 2, y'all.
01:071.05, I've got a male with a gunshot wound to the upper chest.
01:12I think I update the med unit, he's going unresponsive.
01:17He's got multiples, like two to the chest, barely breathing.
01:20Police!
01:23EMS rushes the victim to the hospital, but he doesn't survive.
01:38For homicide detectives, their chance of solving a murder is cut in half if they don't get a lead within
01:45the first 48 hours.
02:02What's up?
02:03Bryson's on the way.
02:04She's the lead.
02:05Okay, I'll show you back here.
02:10Basically, everything happened right here.
02:14That's where he was laying.
02:16Right there.
02:19We have the guy identified.
02:23The victim, 29-year-old Andre Jones, worked as a logistics specialist for a freight company.
02:30He had been staying at the hotel where he was killed, but was in the process of moving out to
02:35live with his mother.
02:37Andre had eight siblings and was the proud father of three young boys.
02:46Through and through.
02:48Andre was shot twice in the chest.
02:52There's a couple of cell casings right here.
02:55The casings are both nine millimeter.
03:01Camera's filming down this way.
03:04We can upload the video.
03:06Yeah.
03:07I got a good witness to talk to.
03:09As far as the other witnesses, good luck.
03:12Yeah.
03:12Because there was about 30 of them out here.
03:14Yeah.
03:14And nobody saw anything.
03:15Okay.
03:16So I think he's the most important one right now.
03:19I'll go do that now.
03:23What's up?
03:24I'm detect over early.
03:25Can we go talk over there?
03:26I just want to hear what happened from your standpoint.
03:30Rob's on stage.
03:37He knows the victim, Andre, as Tez.
03:41So I came down.
03:43He wanted me to go to the store for him.
03:45I said, yeah, I've done stuff with him.
03:47When he started walking, it was just a direction.
03:51After I'm walking, I look up.
03:53I see two guys with a hidden gun.
03:56And they talk about the door right away.
03:58You know, I had a few recent guns in the room.
04:00You know, I can't remember.
04:01The other one was one of the dark color.
04:04They had a mask.
04:05They both had masks on?
04:06Both of them.
04:07That's all he knew because when he seemed to jump down, he dashed the walls on me.
04:12They basically just, like, did it like this when they walked past us.
04:16Was he mad at them or anything?
04:17Or did he just say, hey, you know, like, what's up, yo?
04:21So we and him walking behind them.
04:24They turned to me that way.
04:26And by the time we got, he turned, they coming back.
04:30So when they cast us, I took on one because I think he did behind me.
04:35Yeah.
04:35So when I took around, he coming back this way.
04:37And he came.
04:39So I said, hey, tell him, what's up?
04:40He was, like, jumping around, kind of speeding up towards me.
04:44He gave me the dog, say, just go to the office and give me the soda.
04:47I said, I got you.
04:48Got the dog from him.
04:49See, no, turn around.
04:50Ah, ah.
04:53Shot.
04:54I didn't see this lady took off or anything.
04:58The second lady, I was still there.
05:01The darker hoodie?
05:03Yeah.
05:04He's with the shoes.
05:05I see him going that way, but I was still focusing too.
05:08Showing him just be still, still going down, going back.
05:11Yeah.
05:13Did he call them by any kind of nickname or anything?
05:16Well, he said, son.
05:19All right, man.
05:20Appreciate you hanging around.
05:28Hey.
05:29Hey.
05:30Lead detective Julie Price arrives on scene.
05:34Someone came up to York about somebody to look into.
05:38I was like, would you at least talk to one of my people now?
05:41And she's like, no.
05:42I don't want my name involved.
05:44While Sergeant Dallas York was canvassing the hotel,
05:47a guest said the man staying in room 243 may be involved.
05:53Yeah, I've checked out.
05:54But according to the manager,
05:56the man in that room checked out this morning.
06:01Well, I think we're going to have to regroup and put all the video and everything together.
06:05Yeah.
06:05I don't know what else we're going to be able to do up here.
06:08There's no process.
06:10The manager gave York the names of all the hotel guests for that day.
06:17This hotel shares their cameras with Quintet Police Department.
06:22So I'm going to go back to headquarters and just review a bunch of video.
06:41So the car comes and stops on 85.
06:46So here's the hotel.
06:47It stops right here.
06:49The team pulls up the security video from around the time of the murder.
06:54They get off the exit ramp on 85 right there behind Horizon.
06:58It sits up here with its hazard lights on.
07:02Six minutes before the shooting,
07:04the suspect's car stops on the side of the highway.
07:09They both come down the embankment.
07:15There's no cameras back there?
07:16The one on the back side's down.
07:22So they're in the back.
07:26Orange hoodie.
07:28And then the dark hoodie with bandana print sleeves.
07:32That's the victim in the white hoodie.
07:37So they pass the victim like they're thinking about it.
07:47And then they turn around and go back.
07:58The guy in the bandana print hoodie pulls his gun, fires two shots.
08:03They take off.
08:07It looks like he was targeted.
08:11They come running back up.
08:15You see him go back across the back of the car with his orange hoodie.
08:21So we got some good clothing to look for if we can figure out where to go.
08:25Yeah.
08:27So they have a camera that points basically at the roadway.
08:32And that's him pulling through.
08:35So that's the car right there?
08:37That's the car.
08:38It's going to be a dark car.
08:40Definitely dark.
08:42It's definitely a sedan.
08:45And there's nothing, there's no cameras up there that we can see which way that car goes.
08:50That's right now.
08:54Some girl gave her room number and said, you need to look at this guy, Jahari.
09:00The man in room 243, whom the tipster said may be involved, is 28-year-old Jahari Foster.
09:08There's no vehicles that look good that are associated.
09:12And he also just checked out that morning.
09:14But Jahari doesn't drive a dark-colored sedan.
09:17And he checked out of the hotel 12 hours before the shooting.
09:25Right now, I'm hoping that somebody will call and just give me some little kind of detail in order for
09:35me to run with to figure out who these guys are.
09:47Later that morning, a guest from the hotel comes forward with information about Andre's murder.
09:56You kind of just told me that you have some information.
09:59They killed my friend last night.
10:02I'm sorry to hear that.
10:05What was your friend's name?
10:07Arthur Jones.
10:08He went by another name, though, right?
10:10Because I went there about 8-7-3 million.
10:15And a test came out from the second floor.
10:18So, you know, he's like, man.
10:20I fell asleep.
10:21He's a little damn gun.
10:24So, Ted's gun got stolen?
10:26No.
10:27Some, somebody's got stolen.
10:29She says Andre came into possession of a stolen gun and was planning to return it to the owner.
10:35But, you know, he stole that gun while Ted was asleep.
10:40And he sold it before Ted was back to do.
10:44That's why the shooting happened.
11:04Okay, so he had the gun initially, is what he told you?
11:08He got it.
11:09However, Ted, if I fell asleep, it'd be a stolen.
11:12Now I got to steal it back.
11:20Why does he think that he has to steal it back?
11:23I guess they really mean it's real heat so he can get the gun back.
11:26I don't know.
11:29But basically, they're trying to make it seem like it was Ted's responsible for this.
11:32It's not.
11:34She says the owner of the gun mistakenly thought Andre had stolen it.
11:39They're saying that the dude who's gun it is might be staying in that room 243, which is cleared out.
11:48She doesn't know the gun owner's name, but gives the room number that was registered to Jahari Foster.
11:55Did you see the shooting itself?
11:57No.
11:57Okay.
11:58You were in the shots of your back room and I came out.
12:02Okay.
12:03Amy, thanks for you.
12:11So, the rumor mill is that all of this is over a stolen gun.
12:15She said that Andre wasn't the one that stole it, but somehow the gun's owner believed that Andre was the
12:19one that stole it.
12:21She also provided the same room number as the other tipster that Jahari Foster was staying in.
12:28But we need more than just rumors to put him at the scene.
12:38Later that afternoon.
12:39How are you?
12:41So, yesterday when we came in, we started looking back through some of the video from the other camera views.
12:49After combing through more of the hotel's surveillance video, the crime prevention unit has a lead.
12:55Ricketts pulled footage from earlier in the day and actually located the guy in the orange hoodie.
13:00So, once we found him, we explored a lot more of the video and we actually identified them parking at
13:08the rooms to go, walking over to the horizon earlier in the day, kind of scoping things out.
13:14Five hours before the homicide, three men appear to be casing the hotel.
13:20The subject with the orange hoodie actually obtains it from a female on the second floor as he's walking in.
13:26You see the female with the orange hoodie just walking down the hall.
13:30He literally just walks up the stairs.
13:32She's already walking down the hallway with it.
13:34It's just a pass off and she walks one direction, he walks the other.
13:45Do you all recognize that female at all?
13:48No.
13:48I was trying to get a better picture of her face.
13:54When this went earlier, we actually get a decent shot of his face.
14:00He walks this way.
14:02And then they kind of stopped and they were talking to each other.
14:06It looks like Jahari.
14:07Price believes the suspect with the orange hoodie is the man who rented room 243, Jahari Foster.
14:15The two other subjects that he was with come around the backside of the building.
14:21They've already got their hoodies up.
14:23The second guy actually like pulls his drawstring tight to conceal his face.
14:34They go up.
14:35They're up there a very short time.
14:36They kind of walk around.
14:38And then they come back down.
14:42So this is the subject in the gray hoodie.
14:45He's going to be the actual shooter.
14:47Because he's wearing the same handkerchief looking hoodie during the homicide.
14:57He meets up with the other two.
15:02Once they are leaving, they walk right back to the car that they came from.
15:09And then a few seconds later, you'll see the black passenger car and the rooms to go parking lot come
15:15around the left side of the building.
15:19We ended up identifying the vehicle as a Ford 500 passenger car.
15:27This is the Ford 500 leaving rooms to go.
15:34Once we had this video, we pulled the fly kits and Moon was able to identify the tag.
15:40The car is registered to 35-year-old Tyrus Lane from DeKalb County.
15:46You've got a very long and interesting room on this one.
15:50Tyrus has several prior convictions, including armed robbery and aggravated assault.
15:56The way it looks in one of the views from the night of the NSA, it almost looks like there's
16:01brake lights on before they get up to the car.
16:04It almost looks like there was somebody still in the car.
16:07Officers believe Tyrus could be the getaway driver.
16:12The car seems like it doesn't come up here very often.
16:15It seems like it tends to stay down in style like Dunwoody and Doraville area, Chambly.
16:23Right there at the Motel 6.
16:25Yep.
16:27There it goes.
16:29After the homicide, the suspect vehicle was captured by traffic cameras at a motel in Chambly, about 20 miles west
16:36of Gwinnett.
16:37That's all we did?
16:38That was pretty good.
16:39I appreciate you guys meeting with us.
16:41I really appreciate the right work.
16:51Look, right here.
16:53That's got to be the same one.
16:55The team takes a closer look at the hotel surveillance video from around the time of the murder.
17:01She's wearing the same .
17:03That's the same, it's the same female.
17:05Yeah.
17:06When they first come, she hands the suspect, which looks like Jahari, the orange sweatshirt.
17:16And then during the homicide, she's standing there on her phone.
17:23It's like she's looking and waiting.
17:26I wonder if she called.
17:28And said, hey, he's here out front.
17:29Hey, they're here.
17:31She's the lookout.
17:32Yep.
17:34She's involved.
17:35She already knew what was going to happen.
17:37I don't see how she's not a participant.
17:40If she wasn't a part of it, she should be able to tell me who it was.
17:43We've got to figure out who she is.
17:54Nineteen hours in.
17:57Price returns to the hotel to ask the staff if they recognize the female in the surveillance video.
18:04They do know her.
18:06She's been here, they said, for like the last three or four days, but they don't really know her name
18:10or anything.
18:11But he did take my card and he says, if I find her and I can get a name, I'll
18:14text you.
18:17So at this point, I believe that the person in the orange hoodie is Jahari Foster.
18:22However, I need somebody to ID him and tell us who the other two suspects are.
18:28I've got the reasonable suspicion part, it's just not going to hold up that far in court.
18:32So I need just a little bit more.
18:46The next day.
18:48We're about to go ahead, Chambly, for video footage.
18:51See if we get a clear picture of their faces.
18:53The team heads to the motel, where the suspect vehicle was captured on traffic cameras after the homicide.
19:06They asked the motel manager to pull up video from that night.
19:15We've got them.
19:17They are there.
19:21Look at them showing up.
19:23Immediately after the homicide.
19:25Boom.
19:40They show up.
19:42There's three of them.
19:43Two of them come out.
19:48My man still has the orange hoodie.
19:51Fifteen minutes after the murder, two of the three suspects are seen getting out of the suspect vehicle at the
19:57motel in Chambly.
19:59In the driver's seat, that's probably more than likely the registered owner.
20:04They're at the ...
20:07So you see them hanging out in the corner and talking for a couple minutes, smoking a cigarette, but you
20:15don't see what room they go in.
20:18the suspects disappear into one of two rooms off camera so this is the room roster for everyone
20:25who's rented the room here at the studio six on the night of the murder both rooms out of camera
20:31view were rented by women price can look at this we're in business
20:42according to swaza they go into room like 214 or 215 both registered to females so i gotta see who
20:48they're connected with price researched the women in the two rooms but has been unable to find a link
20:54to the suspects i have to think that's jahari there the driver i think is gonna be registered
21:01owner i'm still trying to figure out who this guy is but those are the same exact shorts and same
21:06pumas as a shooter i think he's got the actual hoodie balled up in his arm right now
21:14so i'm two out of three but i still don't know who my shooter is
21:35three days later
21:40price speaks with andre's mother you hear about it you see it you just don't expect it to be you
21:50no the story i'm getting of it is he got blamed for stealing a gun but the rumor is is
21:56that it was
21:56somebody else and he got blamed for it and then of course this happened
22:00right yeah if my son had done something he would tell me he's never lied to me yeah never kept
22:08anything
22:09from me even when he died in trouble as a young youth i'm so torn i can't even explain it
22:16this is the
22:18child who calls me just to tell me he loves me you know you're never gonna have that again
22:28the kids the kids are torn up my oldest boy can't even come out the house it has really devastated
22:34my
22:35whole entire family yeah hopefully i'll have some news for you here by the end of the week but um
22:41i'll contact you as soon as i can okay all right thank you so much thank you bye okay all
22:47right bye bye
22:52then the department of labor came back with where johari works this is the shirt logo
22:59according to the department of labor johari works for a moving company in norcross
23:05this is the back of the hoodie can't really quite make it out but it's there though and then here
23:13is
23:14his face shot wearing said hoodie so he's wearing his work hoodie so i'm gonna run over to norcross
23:24and talk to a manager confirm a that's your logo and b who's that because we've only been able to
23:31guess that that's johari so i just need somebody to tell me yep that's him
23:39later that afternoon thank you price and sergeant michael poppy pay a visit to johari's manager
23:47he said yeah that's their logo he said yeah that's their hoodie then flipped it over and showed him the
23:53guy and he goes i mean he looks familiar i was like well if you had to guess who and
23:58he points to
23:59on the wall they have all their employees he points to johari foster's photo and says him
24:04i got enough to pull warrants now he will be here wednesday 8 a.m johari's next scheduled shift
24:12is in two days i mean there's no reason not to hook him up with
24:17he gave you his phone number right his facebook uh username the manager said he contacts johari
24:24through facebook so that was golden i just would like to have a name of the third guy the shooter
24:37the next day
24:41early gets a lead on the third suspect so i just went to johari's facebook i went to his profile
24:48picture and
24:49just looked at the two people that liked it and one is this guy
24:55he's got the chin he's got the short hair yeah he's got the long beard that the shooter had
25:03i think that's him yeah that's definitely demetrius bush
25:23it looks to me like the same guy that we have for the shooting that big long goatee the short
25:29hair
25:30same build
25:35now i got a clothes
25:3933 year old demetrius bush was born in maryland and grew up in atlanta he has prior convictions for
25:46possession of cocaine and possession of a firearm while committing a felony
25:51he's wanted for probation violation he has an active warrant for violating his probation
25:57all right so then i check
26:05price checks the guest registry from the motel where the suspects were dropped off after the murder
26:11i know which room he goes in
26:15214. one of the two females who rented a room on the night of the murder has the same last
26:21name as
26:21demetrius we got to get eyes on the hotel to see if he's still staying there if i can just
26:27get him
26:27going in and out it i'm golden to go search that room because that is where they go after
26:38the next morning so short while ago our gang unit was able to go out to the studio six motel
26:47in
26:47chambley looking for one of our suspects they were able to lay eyes on him and watched him go back
26:55into
26:55room 214. they came back out a short while later and they rather jump out and grab him and place
27:01him under
27:01arrest for a probation violation warrant that he has the suspected shooter demetrius bush is on his
27:08way to headquarters for questioning we're going to search his room we're looking for some clothing that
27:13he was wearing and possibly the murder weapon hopefully we get enough now to charge him with murder also
27:26the team searches the room where demetrius was staying we recovered the clothing that mr bush had
27:38when the homicide occurred the whole get-up is in there uh shoe shorts paisley hoodie the whole night
27:50but there was no sign of the murder weapon at this point we have enough to take out arrest warrants
27:56take him to jail we're about to go talk to him now we're at headquarters and see what he has
28:01to say
28:07hey ma'am good i'm detective price detective swazzle oh yeah um and you're mr bush yes okay so have
28:22you
28:22ever been to the horizon you know i don't go through the horizon well um on wednesday there was homicide
28:29that occurred there and there was clothing specific with the shooter at the homicide okay that clothing
28:37was found in your room all right so no kid that so you're getting charged with malice murder felony
28:43murder possession of a firearm and possession by a convicted felon okay yeah so here's the thing
28:55there's enough probable cause to talk to a judge to get these warrants we're not playing with
29:01i need a lawyer all right brother look he wasn't having it and asked for a lawyer
29:16but it's a good feeling when you got the shooter arrested
29:25while i was up here waiting for mr bush to get up here we got intel that there's a dad
29:31looking for
29:31his daughter he went to the horizon inn well the manager has the photo of the female that we're
29:36looking for in casey caesar shows dad and was like hey i know pretty much everybody here and everybody
29:42around but i don't know who this is maybe this is her and he goes yeah that's my daughter
29:47the female scene handing johari foster the orange hoodie in the surveillance video has been identified
29:53as a teenage runaway but her location is unknown so now we have vice unit special victims unit
30:01narcotics they're all looking for her and i do have active warrants out on johari foster we were told
30:10that johari works tomorrow at 8 a.m hopefully we'll get him tomorrow morning
30:21the next morning fugitives just texted me saying uh that johari is 10 90 uh he's arrested the plan is
30:30for them to bring him up here so we can attempt to interview him if anybody's gonna talk it's i
30:36think
30:50it's gonna be johari
30:51did he yeah on his way into homicide johari foster asked for a lawyer he's like what are even my
30:59charges i told him malice murder felony murder and he's like what and i was like listen i want to
31:05talk to you about him but you already want a lawyer and i can't talk to you right now
31:25like i said i do want to talk to you okay so if you want to talk to me um
31:31and but you want a lawyer
31:32present that's fine because i understand that y'all got a job to do but i don't need any president
31:35to take me okay some serious charges that i don't even trust me i know i don't know how to
31:40do it
31:42i'll give you my card and you can take this with you okay thank you thank you
31:48we will get you transported to the gym
31:54he says he doesn't even own a gun because his gun got stolen two weeks ago
31:58it feels good that i have these two in custody and i'm like this close away from getting the
32:04third person i just need that one little nugget to put tyrus at the location as soon as i do
32:10that
32:10i'm good we got to find the female too yeah yeah
32:2311 days later so the female miner that we were looking for got picked up the teenage runaway seen
32:32on video handing jihari the orange hoodie was tracked down and interviewed by the special victims unit
32:38they did a forensic interview with her she ends up talking about the shooting in detail
32:44at first she says that um jihari believed that it was his ex-girlfriend that stole his gun
32:51he heard later then that it was a male and then she was supposed to run around and try to
32:57figure
32:58out who the male was but he he supposedly figured it out first she knew jihari was looking to fight
33:04but after the shooting she then realized it wasn't to fight it was to actually shoot him
33:09because she she flat out asked said what's his plan and he eventually confesses that it was planned
33:16and then she talks about how afterwards at the hotel she's with jihari and bush and um bush starts
33:24talking about his body count and how he just killed somebody but the miner couldn't call police at all
33:31about anything because she was on the run herself being a runaway the young female will not be charged
33:38and has been released unfortunately she didn't mention anything about a driver in her interview
33:45so at this point we're still trying to figure out how to tie tyrus to the murder and we're still
33:51trying to locate his car
34:02a month later so we're headed down to clayton county tyrus has a meeting right now with his probation
34:10officer so we're headed down there to hopefully intercept him the team plans to confront tyrus
34:17after he meets with his probation officer i have plenty to take his car i just can't say that he's
34:23the one that was driving it but if we go down here and he says i'm the only person to
34:28ever drive my car
34:29nobody drives my car that kind of stuff that would be golden i would be comfortable pulling warrants on him
34:34too
34:42this is him right here standing outside his car
34:48hey i'm detective price just go ahead and have a seat right there
34:52tyrus agrees to speak with price and corporal rodrigo araya inside sergeant hegwood's car
35:00but i just got a couple of questions for you that's your car yes that's my car
35:08does anybody else drive your car no not recently
35:15when's the last time somebody drove your car june july
35:20one of the guys who stayed over there at the studio sleep they said we had to run air
35:27one of the guys who stayed over there at the studio sleep they said we had to run air
35:28who was that um got a meach meach
35:48you don't meet his real name
35:58i don't
35:59how long did you give him your car for um hour and a half at the most i guess
36:04i got some photos for you do you recognize those two price shows him a photo of jihari foster
36:11and demetris bush being dropped off at the motel after the murder definitely
36:16meach he identifies demetris as meach do you know who was behind him
36:24have you ever seen him before i don't know his name i've seen over there a couple times before
36:30can you see this this vehicle
36:34they look like your car yeah but you don't know who would have been driving your car meach
36:40no meach gets out of the passenger seat oh no i don't know we wrong with him man no i
36:45don't
36:47so over at the horizon and there was a homicide right okay um and your car was seen
36:53at the homicide like used in the homicide
36:58so that's why i'm here talking to you
37:02do you have any reason to be out there at the horizon end i don't even around with it no
37:07no
37:10most definitely not do you have any text messages or anything with meach
37:14no i got my i don't know how to do you would you mind if we took a look at
37:18your phone
37:19just to kind of confirm that tyrus hands over his phone so what we're going to be doing is taking
37:27your
37:28car up to gwinnett county police headquarters and then once we're done with the car i'll call you
37:34all right that's cool all right i appreciate you talking with us
37:45you're good to go all right thank you
37:52i'm still convinced it's him yeah story doesn't still doesn't make sense it doesn't make sense
37:57it just sucks that it's like you know it's him but you just don't have enough the last thing you
38:02have is gonna be his fault i know
38:18one week later i did a search more on the car there was nothing remarkable in the car
38:27this here is tyrus lane's phone
38:32it seems like on the 17th through the 18th he deleted all his stuff
38:40but if you go into google the day of the homicide 10 30 he's searching for studio six
38:48which is where i believe dimitris and johari were picked up from about an hour before the 911 call
38:56tyrus searched for directions to the motel in chambley where dimitris was staying with his relative
39:03then at 11 40 he puts the studio six back into his maps seven minutes before the shooting while his
39:10car was parked in the exit ramp near the crime scene tyrus searched for directions back to the same motel
39:18then just like an hour or so after the homicide he's searching google help to delete his browser history
39:24in both his um search browser and maps yeah so it's hard to say that he wasn't involved
39:33i have asked for indictment on this by the da's office price will wait for the district attorney to
39:39decide if there's enough evidence to charge tyrus lane with the murder of andre jones i feel good
39:47about it now i think it's a pretty solid case against those three obviously andre didn't deserve to die
39:56i think he was just an unfortunate target of bad rumors
40:03but
40:34One month after Andre was killed.
40:39You're welcome, beautiful.
40:40His family and friends gathered to celebrate his life on his mother's birthday.
40:46Hello.
40:47Every time I look at you, I think you're dead.
40:50You know that?
40:52When he was little, he looked just like you.
40:57I thank everybody for being here.
41:00And I appreciate y'all celebrating my birthday with me and Dre.
41:05I know everybody here is still hurting.
41:08I know we're all grieving.
41:10And maybe this will finally give us that closure.
41:12We need to continue our grieving process.
41:16For me, it's a little different.
41:18I'm probably going to grieve for quite some time.
41:20It's a child.
41:21It's my child.
41:23That's a hard pill to swallow, to know that his life was cut short, and especially by gun violence.
41:31So I'm hoping that many of you or all of you will help me take up that mantle in helping
41:37with reform for gun violence,
41:39so that we can help with some change, especially in our communities.
41:51There are days when I just can't breathe, and I literally break down.
41:58Someone told me that our children are not ours.
42:01God gave them to us forever long, and he's called him back home.
42:06So if I look at it like that, then I look at it like my son was here for a
42:10purpose.
42:11I think his death and the way he died was what he wanted me to do, pick up that mantle
42:17and make change, help with reform.
42:20So maybe that's my purpose now, and he gave it to me.
42:25It's senseless.
42:26Gun violence is senseless.
42:28Come on, let's do better.
42:30It's time, because this is ridiculous.
42:32Gun violence is senseless.
42:40Gun violence is senseless.
42:42Gun violence is senseless.
42:42Gun violence is senseless.
42:43Gun violence is senseless.
42:44Gun violence is senseless.
42:44Gun violence is senseless.
42:45Gun violence is senseless.
42:45Gun violence is senseless.
42:45Gun violence is senseless.
42:46You
