09:58In fact, on June 25, 1991, the war that would affect Yugoslavia for over four years broke out,

10:14Herzegovina is perhaps the most sensitive area in all of Yugoslavia.
10:18The meeting and clash point between Catholic Croats, Orthodox Serbs, Muslim Bosnians, and Montenegrins.

11:01so that all the suffering of the people throughout Bosnia and Croatia may cease.

11:15The war in the Balkans officially ended in 1995.
11:19And Meggiugorje, spared from the bombings, is today a Croatian and Christian entity.

11:28However, the alleged Marian apparitions sparked much controversy from the very beginning.
11:35According to some, in fact, behind the mystery of Meggiugorje,
11:38there would actually be a clash between the local friars and the Yugoslav clergy.

12:29to regain consensus and therefore also power over the parishes.
12:35Well, these apparitions, in my opinion, arise from this context.
12:40But in addition to effectively quelling the latent schism between friars and clergy,
12:45the apparitions could also have a political justification.
12:49Initially the function with which it had been coldly elaborated, at the table,
12:56Operation Meggiugorje was aimed at establishing a hotbed of Marian devotion,

13:14I believe that the influence of the Franciscans on the boys was very strong.

13:24Certainly the Meggiugorje phenomenon which brought and which continued to bring
13:30a significant influx of money into the country's coffers,
13:34I would say that it can certainly be a factor that played an important role also among the religious people present.
13:43The vision boys, who have become, as we know, quite well off,
13:52with the flood of gold brought by what has been defined as the most profitable sacred scam of the twentieth century,
14:00they had been plagiarized by the Franciscans,
14:03They had spent many months of preparation locked in the convent
14:11before being flaunted with their recitation of visions.
14:15For some, in short, the apparitions of Medjugorje are a cleverly staged hoax.
14:21But how could not one, but six country boys have pretended for so long without contradicting themselves?
14:31To further investigate the visionaries' ecstasies, two medical commissions were appointed in the mid-1980s.
14:39We investigated what we might call an altered state of consciousness.
14:49Italian medical commissions, composed of various specialists, study the visionaries during their alleged ecstasies.
14:55All the visionaries, except Miriana, are subjected to the tests at different times and in different ways.
15:01but their participation is sporadic and inconsistent.
15:04The psychologists and psychiatrists who accompanied the team declared that they were absolutely normal subjects.
15:17First, doctors try the so-called evoked potential test.
15:22The test consists in subjecting the visionaries, before, during and after the apparition,
15:27to loud noises, sudden tactile and visual stimuli.
15:31It was seen that the subjects, when they entered their trans, evidently transestatic,
15:40they no longer received external stimuli, that is, nothing was formed on the retina,
15:46as if I pick up the phone, call a switchboard and find the switchboard busy.
15:52Same with auditory potentials, they sent a stimulus into the ears.
