02:22our calls come in on a priority from one to five and when it's at one it's an emergency
02:28that lady calling in saying that she was burgled that's an emergency call
02:39caller is living at the above address she's reporting her house got burgled and her foot is burned
02:48and the female is oh right she's a a woman who has her issues she's being investigated at the
03:00moment for nuisance phone calls she could ring the station 200 times a night
03:07she would be a what we'd call a nuisance caller she could call us from 12 o'clock the whole
03:12way through
03:12till seven o'clock in the morning it's a huge issue you could have someone that has an emergency
03:17trying to get through to us and you've a you've an individual on the phone clogging up the phones
03:23it's sad really because you're thinking what's going on inside in her head
03:35it's just up here
03:38it's just up here
03:38here no it's straight there's either
03:48as we pulled in the ambulance service were pulling away and did not deem it necessary to
03:54take her back to university hospital waterford so it was in our hands then to deal with the situation
04:00a hand how are you what's going on like i have to drink red red wine you before
04:09do you ever hear that song i did where are you going do you ever hear johnny cash walk the

04:25one step two step three god help our neighbors because she'd be in the house at three o'clock in
04:30the morning with the music pumping and roaring and shouting by herself there was no burglary that
04:35took place she um she just said it over the phone she thought it was funny i can't stress enough
04:41how
04:41they're wasting resources from both us and the ambulance service for the ambulance service it's life
04:47or death really while they're dealing with her there could be a call waiting for someone who has
04:54had a heart attack it's really devastating because you're thinking god what if that was my mom or
05:01what if that was my dad and they didn't make it are you going inside are you going inside no
05:07i'll tell
05:08you where i'm going now yeah you're going to the station what you're coming to the station oh god no

05:24there go on good woman do you want to jump in middle yeah
05:29okay
05:33no no you can't get out now you're under arrest
05:50you'll be out in six hours okay i know i understand this particular woman she'll never learn
05:59like like this is a regular occurrence and like ema there she's an absolute sweetheart like
06:07she's the nicest woman in the world you know what i mean so ema would have a lot of patience
06:11when it
06:12comes to that particular female
06:19there's only so much patience you can have
06:25following their arrest the suspect is brought back to the station to be processed
06:31how are you me old flower how are you me old flower how are you
06:34good bye to you about five one about that
06:41when we bring her back she gets um processed like any other prisoner she'll stay for up to six hours
06:51she'll be checked every 15 minutes
06:54you all right now
06:58yeah
07:01oh you're okay
07:04the knock-on effect then is the cause are building up from the city
07:11calling us for help and we can't leave this lady until she's dealt with properly
07:18hello guard emergency please don't call the screen recorded i can help you
07:21it was a traffic accident is that correct okay so we'll get the guarantee out to you there what's
07:25your date of birth i've got two robbery calls on the screen lads there's an indian mail after
07:30been attacked there they are frustrating if you arrest someone like this you know you're going
07:36to have to deal with them again some of these individuals could have 100 charges up in front of
07:42the court all for the same section 4 public order section 6 public order unfortunately all we can
07:47do is get them before the court and it's up to the judge at that stage
08:15i think it's going to be a busy night hidden
08:17i hope it is i haven't had a busy night in a long time
08:26oh we need to go down to this one i know yeah but i'm just going to drag you in
08:30town for
08:35it's 7 pm in castle blaney and gardie stephen and aiden are just starting their shift before going on
08:42their nightly patrol they are calling to a young woman that has come to their attention and is in
08:47need of help we're going to a person here at the minute that uh has had a troubled childhood
08:58for a long time there we were getting like nuisance 999 calls which was wasting probably a lot of
09:04garter time and handling service time there's an awful lot of time being spent here dealing with
09:11phone calls some days it might have been three or four calls a day i kind of took it upon
09:18myself to
09:18i suppose find the answers to the questions as to why we were getting so many calls
09:25when i got to know the person i soon came to the realization that this person probably
09:30shouldn't be living independently but we're guards at the end of the day we're not social workers
09:36so that's why i suggested the joint agency approach
09:43we had a joint agency meeting then actually yesterday during the joint agency meeting
09:50uh it was disclosed that this person has been extorted out of money and never felt the courage to
09:57come to the guards about it but i think by showing her a wee bit of support she's been able
10:02to open up to us
10:08with the revelation of the potential financial exploitation stephen's nuisance phone calls
10:14investigation has just developed into something much more serious well how are you we meet again
10:21the reason why i'm standing here in your house is because of those 999 calls back in october
10:27but you're dealing with this then behind the scenes and very few people knew about it and i know from
10:32talking to you in the meeting that you have a high level of fear when it comes to this person
10:36i have like a really hard time saying no to her this isn't cash related it's what's tracked on bank
10:47accounts on revolution you can actually see the total she sent and it's over 3000
10:51this person was basically coerced into handing over the money in excess of 3000 euro to me when i first
11:01got the initial report it was somebody playing on her vulnerabilities which i knew myself existed at that
11:07time last saturday i've seen it for the first time you get phone call if you don't answer it it's
11:14on
11:14to another app it's on to another app it's on to another app it's just it's actually non-stop
11:19horrendous like you were crying you were naming things you were going to do to yourself
11:28the pain and the anxiety and the stress that has built in you in the last 12 months because of
11:34that
11:34isn't fair it's not right and you now have the ability to make it right do you want to make
11:41a
11:41complaint about this yes it's up to me to gather the evidence to try and convict that person all right
11:50and it's about you trusting me and doing that i think it's important to your responses immediate no
11:57matter what you're dealing with given the initial report the suspect is potentially looking at a
12:02custodial sentence
12:10with the victim agreeing to move forward with the investigation
12:15stephen obtains a warrant so he can seize the suspect's mobile devices to search for evidence of
12:20the alleged offense i felt it was quite a significant amount of evidence to be gleaned
12:30from the person's phone i suppose that was the starting point for me getting to know the suspect
12:43we have arrived
13:00open the door can we come in for a second we're here on a search warrant the offense
13:06that i am investigating right is section 7 deception which is fraud it's all too
13:12revolute as of january of this year there has been money sent to your revolute okay we can see it
13:18it's in black and white on savings the reality is that i am now dealing with someone that any time
13:25she was asked for money was in fear that if she didn't send that money that something was going to
13:29happen i'll be frank right you you deal with a suspect in an investigation and
13:41you have the impression the suspect's a bad person the reality is when you break it down
13:46there was also a vulnerable person on the other side of this investigation
13:52we all know there's a an organized crime gang operating in county monaghan i'm gonna block
13:59this oncoming car now
14:05the next step would be to piece together the information from the phone download
14:10it's mad hey
14:14it's actually mad
14:20in monaghan steven's investigation into the alleged financial exploitation continues
14:25as he speaks with the suspect while serving a warrant to seize their mobile devices
14:31i don't believe that you intended to ruin someone's life i don't believe that but over a three month
14:40period you made over 489 phone calls to this girl the majority of those phone calls is looking for money
14:48we have to investigate where this money went to the search warrant allows me to take the phone to be
14:54downloaded
14:55do not think your whole world is coming down around you
14:59i know it might feel like that all right
15:01but i have to get justice for the person that has made the complaint
15:10oh lordy
15:13when i sat with the suspect for their side of the story
15:16we soon established that
15:20the majority of the calls were actually out of concern
15:24you have two people okay that have serious concerns for each other's mental health and well-being
15:30and then we have the extortion
15:41the next step for me now would be to piece together the information from the phone download
15:49so what i can see here is notes that were made on the phone
15:54but we can also see from the download that these have been deleted by the suspect
15:59but have been retrieved on the download
16:04and one of them is an apology
16:07in writing to the injured party for what they had done
16:11i want to start off by saying thank you for everything thank you for being the best friend of
16:15i want to say sorry for messing things up and please know i never ever meant to hurt you in
16:20any way
16:21it's mad
16:25it's actually mad
16:28it's actually incredible when you read something like that because you know the person writing it
16:31knows they've done wrong
16:33knows that the day is coming that they're going to get caught for what they've done
16:37but still that concern is there where they're sitting down and writing a letter to that person
16:43at that point that changes things
16:59crime figures for 2025 showed a notable decrease in serious crimes such as murders burglaries and kidnappings
17:06however there has been an exponential increase in crimes involving thefts and shoplifting
17:12these types of crimes are at their highest level in five years and thefts from shops have increased by 8
17:18% in the past year alone
17:201.5% in the past year
17:44today. I have a description. Black trousers, black jacket, blonde hair, black
17:50and white runners. We deal with a lot of shoplifting in
17:56Mortford, whether that's off licenses, shopping centers, clothing stores, jewellery,
18:03you name it.
18:12We have a lot of juveniles. They're not working. They don't have an income. They might like
18:17something that they see and they just chance their arm and steal it.
18:26Is the security guard back here?
18:28Yeah, it's this side of the door.
18:33CCTV is absolutely crucial. It is very, very, very hard to identify a shoplifter if there
18:45is no CCTV.
18:48Do you have a picture of his face?
18:54Yes.
18:57Okay.
19:01Is this guy here? Yeah. I know him. I recognize him. Yeah, that's a man. He done a robbery there
19:06recently.
19:06On the bus?
19:07Yeah.
19:07Yeah.
19:09He's dangerous.
19:10Yeah, he is, yeah. You've got to be very careful of him.
19:13He'd be known to us. He's been arrested and detained multiple times before. We took a litre
19:19bottle of Captain Morgans and put it into the backpack and just walked out the door.
19:25Yeah, that's definitely that lad. Yeah. A lot of the time they're doing it for the buzz.
19:31They enjoy the trill.
19:42In Monaghan, GardaĂ are also dealing with a spike in alcohol theft, with smaller shops
19:48bearing the brunt of this growing issue.
19:52Shoplifting is very common. Let's probably look at the price of alcohol going up with
19:57the minimum price. Alcohol is not as affordable for people that are drinking it every day as
20:03it once was. The only other option is to, unfortunately, shoplift it.
20:12In 2024, on GardaĂ Chikana launched Operation Charga, with a focus on prosecuting shoplifters
20:20and protecting retail staff. In the first 12 months of its launch, the operation saw 8,640
20:27people arrested, many of whom had carried out multiple offences.
20:36He got a charge for a super value theft there for stealing a turkey in October.
20:42A turkey? Yeah.
20:44So I wonder if he was the fellow who threw the chicken down his jocks that time.
20:48What?
20:49Were you working that day, a fellow was in Tesco, and he ran into Tesco over to the fridges,
20:56got a big chicken out of the fridge and threw down his jocks when running out the door.
20:59What?
20:59Jeez, no.
21:08Right. This man just wants to speak with you for a second.
21:12So I'm here to arrest you on suspicion of Section 4 theft from his off-license back in October.
21:19You never teeped?
21:20All right, look, we're going to just bring back station, and look, we'll just go through
21:23the whole process, OK?
21:24Yeah.
21:27So you've been arrested on suspicion of theft, OK?
21:31As you're 18 or over, you may, on request, have a solicitor and another person named by
21:36you notified that you're in custody.
21:38Despite the targeted response by Gardie, shoplifting still remains stubbornly high.
21:44It's going to be a quick, sorry for it.
21:47According to estimates by the Irish Small and Medium Enterprise Association, these crimes
21:52are costing retailers more than 1.62 billion euro a year.
22:04In Limerick, shoplifting incidents are a constant for Gardie working in the city centre.
22:10Many of the cases are driven by people dealing with addiction, with a number of repeat offenders
22:16perpetrating numerous thefts on a daily basis.
22:21We have, I'd say, between five and ten prolific shoplifters.
22:27We have to go download CCTV, take statements, follow up, try to find this person, try to arrest
22:32this person, try to get it to court.
22:35Whereas you could be using your resources elsewhere in the communities.
22:39It's just frustrating.
22:40That's really, really frustrating.
22:42Alpha 103 control.
22:45Alpha 103 Tesco offers quameron, we have a shoplifting theater, we have a aggressive female court.
22:54Hey lads, how are you?
22:55Do you want to go into the back with her there?
22:57Of course she wants.
22:58Why not?
22:58I'm not to bounce, I have to go in there.
23:00OK, I'm not going to call them.
23:02On arrival at the scene, there was a female.
23:04And I know this female.
23:06She's a known shoplifter to us.
23:07Alpha 103 there to Alpha 101, please.
23:09How are you doing, sir?
23:11All right.
23:11Let's put on now.
23:13Is there any chance we can get the van up here to Tesco, please?
23:17As we arrived seeing us, she fell on the ground and started showing tantrum.
23:22Thanks.
23:23You're not going to be fooling anybody, all right?
23:26She was faking a seizure, so eventually I told her, look, stop with the carry-on.
23:31Stop!
23:33Get off me!
23:33Let's cut the shit here now.
23:35No, I'm sorry.
23:36I know you are.
23:37Yes.
23:37All right, I'm just going to get it sorted now, all right?
23:40So relax, please.
23:41Come on.
23:41I know.
23:43I won't have a chat in a sec, right?
23:44If I can, I'll get it all sorted properly.
23:47Quickly, OK?
23:48She tried to take three or four bottles of whiskey.
23:50So what I believe there is she was probably speaking to someone earlier on.
23:54They probably told her, look, I need four bottles of whiskey.
23:56I'll give you X amount if you get me four bottles of whiskey.
23:58So she was robbing to order.
24:08I don't know.
24:14This prolific shoplifter could get 20 weeks in prison.
24:20Unfortunately, there's not enough room.
24:22They may do one week in prison, and I'd say they would have a theft committed within half an hour
24:28on their release.
24:37This drug problem, it is a very big issue.
24:44You see young kids, young people suffering from it.
24:48And it's, it's become a circle.
24:56What'd you say?
24:58I know.
25:00What were you taking?
25:02Leave me that stuff now, you **** one.
25:05No.
25:06Stop them.
25:07I love to see them get out from that circle.
25:10I want to see them be part of society, because it seems like society is just pushing them away.
25:20You do feel awful sad for them.
25:23They're in and out of the station.
25:25They're literally in, out, in, out.
25:28You'd love to get the treatment, but at the end of the day, the person has to want the treatment
25:33before they can get the treatment.
25:47Like most towns in Ireland, Castle Blaney in County Monaghan has a drug problem.
25:52It's a national epidemic that has been felt at a local level.
25:59Folks, listen, we'll play on with this. It's only going to take five, ten minutes anyway.
26:04Garda Aidan Quinn is heading up an operation that is targeting an organised crime gang synonymous with operating cannabis grow
26:10farms across the north-east region of the country.
26:14We all know there's an organised crime gang operating in County Monaghan.
26:20This organised crime gang has potentially access to a firearm.
26:25So the ASU will do what they do to start the breach and secure the premises before we go in.
26:31Confidential information which I've received is that cannabis plants have been cultivated and stored in the rented property.
26:38Over the last couple of days, surveillance has been carried out.
26:40We've noticed that there's somebody at the house between 11 and 12.
26:45So once there's a body on site, that's when we're going to rock and roll.
26:48We'll be focusing on the house for any drugs, but also more importantly, I'm looking for financial documentation,
26:55anything that has credit unions, bank statements, anything like that, any names in the house.
27:00Any last questions?
27:10The search in Casabini for the grow house, it was part of an intelligent-led operation that was going on
27:17for 15 months prior to the actual search.
27:23You be safe now, sweet pea.
27:28You have the warrant.
27:31I do.
27:33But here we go, Joe.
27:43You never know who you're going to deal with.
27:46You never know the type of person that could be tasked with mining such a property.
27:56ETA about 20 seconds, not even 20 seconds, that's the house on the right door searching.
28:05I'm going to block this oncoming car now.
28:19I'm an immigration officer, as you can see.
28:21You were born in Zimbabwe.
28:22Yes.
28:23You've been here since last year, June last year, and you've never registered.
28:26No.
28:27If you do not leave, we will try and locate you, arrest you, and deport you.
28:32Holy girl, look at all the stuff we're growing cannabis.
28:35Probably.
28:36Probably.
28:37In excess of 50 or 60 plants was there.
28:42It's midday in Castle Blaney, and local GardaĂ are carrying out a raid on a potential grow house deep in
28:49a remote rural location.
28:51They suspect it's linked to a notorious organized crime gang.
28:54The owner of the property is not aware that it's been used for any illegal activities.
29:00Sorry, we'll have this road blocked for a couple of minutes.
29:02You can turn around and go around that way.
29:04Here we go.
29:14Here we go.
29:17Here we go.
29:18Here we go.
29:19Here we go.
29:20Here we go.
29:21For fuck's sake.
29:24Not a fucking thing.
29:26It's extremely frustrating, because it's a lot harder than to get a conviction when there's nobody
29:31in the house.
29:32negative people anyway
29:36Right we're going to tear this house apart there's a screwdriver down there. Just use some brute force. I think
29:50That lad in the attic
29:55And hang up there no holy girl look at all the stuff we're growing cannabis
30:03It's a broken-down cannabis factory
30:09It's the fertilizer for growing the stuff
30:12You'd imagine there's probably an excess of 50 or 60 plants was there at a time
30:19Something spooked them so
30:23Substantial size grow house has broken down within the last 48 72 hours
30:28It's frustrating and pissed off basically because ideally you want to get a
30:32Body you want to get the plants you want to get somebody here, but it's cat-and-mouse game, but
30:36we're a two or three days later
30:40Between
30:42October 2023 and the time when I did the search there was nine grow houses got in Monaghan. That's a
30:49small part of the country
30:52There's plenty intel here in Ninoa
30:55These are all his bank statements what dates and that
31:05Those two receipts from a business that specialize in growing exotic plants
31:16Do you see all the invoices that were in there for the similar things to this purchase invoices that were
31:21two grand three grand all over the last while all for a
31:24Yeah
31:24We leave them in the kitchen table and we go through them when we wanted
31:28You could see
31:3015,000 euro was spent
31:32On getting the equipment that gives us another avenue to investigate
31:36To look at who's financed the farms
31:39It's still an ongoing investigation
31:42There's people that were interested in speaking to
31:45That's the thing about drugs operations
31:47That's the thing about drugs operations
31:49It's a marathon more so than a sprint
32:03It's a marathon more so than a sprint
32:03In Limerick the city's immigration unit are getting ready for an early morning operation
32:09The team will set up checkpoints along main commuter routes in and out of Limerick City
32:13With a focus on checking the immigration status of drivers and passengers on their morning commute
32:22Our immigration unit has completely changed in the last 12 months
32:27We're an investigation unit
32:30Prior to that we were full-time registrations
32:32We were always inside and now we're out
32:35We're going to visit your workplace
32:36We're going to be stopping carriers
32:38It makes people aware that we're out there
32:41Immigration into Ireland has risen rapidly in recent years
32:44Which has placed an extra emphasis on the work of on Garda-Shea-Connor's immigration units
32:51Changes to the immigration unit structure
32:53Has freed up over a hundred GardaĂ
32:55To carry out nationwide immigration checks and targeted operations
33:02How are you doing?
33:03What are you doing?
33:03What are you doing?
33:05What are you doing?
33:06What are you doing?
33:07Have a good one
33:10I'm an immigration officer as you can see
33:12So this is your driving licence okay?
33:14Yes
33:14You were born in Zimbabwe?
33:15Yes
33:15Okay
33:17What passport do you have?
33:19The Zimbabwean passport
33:20Yes
33:20Do you have an IRP card?
33:22Yes
33:22May I see it please?
33:24Any person that arrives in Ireland that's a non EU
33:27And is over 16 years of age
33:30Requires an IRP card
33:32And you carry that card with you at all times
33:34It just shows your legal status in the country
33:37It's great when everything is in order
33:39Isn't it?
33:42Good morning
33:43I'm an immigration officer from the GardaĂ station
33:45How are you?
33:46Good now
33:46You're Irish
33:47Yeah
33:47You're Irish
33:48You're Irish
33:48That's okay
33:48Do you have your driving licence with you?
33:50Sure
33:51And yourself?
33:52Do you have your driving licence?
33:54You're not driving, obviously
33:56What country are you from?
33:58Brazil
33:58Brazil
33:59May I see your IRP card as some identification please?
34:03Your IRP card?
34:05That's what I'm looking for
34:06My IRP card you know in Austria
34:09Does he not have one?
34:10Does he not have one?
34:11He has one with my campaign
34:13Okay
34:15What are you doing?
34:16Or what's
34:17What are you doing in Ireland?
34:20Student campus
34:21You're a student?
34:22Yeah
34:22Where?
34:24Student campus
34:26You're a student campus student
34:28I'll come back to you in two seconds okay?
34:31I'm just going to check the computer for his history
34:35Students come in and they do eight month courses
34:38You can do three of those which allows you to stay for two years
34:42For their student visa to remain valid
34:44They must attend college and register with Angarda Siakana when they enter the country
34:50In June 24 email from student campus via student was expelled due to bad attendance 76%
34:56And that was June 24
34:59On checking their records the investigating Garda discovered the suspect is not a student and has never registered with them
35:08Where is that quick word which is there for a sec? Passport
35:11My passport is in the house
35:13You've never registered with Angarda Siakana?
35:15No Harry
35:16You've been here since last year, June last year and you've never registered?
35:19No
35:20So we're going to have to get proof of your address okay?
35:23Okay
35:23Alright
35:24Yeah you can sit back in okay?
35:30Do serve a 14 on him and get him to come in maybe tomorrow
35:34If you serve a section 14 on him that means you'd ask him to reside at a certain place
35:40And that he come to visit you at a Garda station at a specific time
35:45Failure to do either of those there's a power of arrest
35:49Tomorrow just make sure that he comes in to us tomorrow okay?
35:51If he doesn't come there will be other consequences than down the road okay?
35:54See you tomorrow
35:55Make sure you're there
36:05We could automatically just apply for a deportation order for him
36:11That doesn't serve a purpose in that it may take a year to get that
36:14The other way we can look at is get a supervised exit and that we offer him the chance to
36:19go home voluntarily
36:21This gives him a chance to write right is wrong or not
36:28In 2024 the total number of people who departed Ireland under deportation orders including enforced and voluntary returns was 1
36:37,116
36:43The following day members of the immigration unit are waiting to meet with the Brazilian national they encountered at yesterday's
36:50operation
36:51He's expected to provide documentation to prove his immigration status
36:58Hi how are you today?
37:00You were able to translate for him there's no problem
37:01Yeah that's fine
37:03Can I have a look at your passport?
37:05Okay I'll be keeping this today okay
37:07You came in through Dublin airport
37:11And you got a stamp
37:14Yeah and the stamp told you to go to a Garda station before the 10th of January
37:19And to get your IRP card
37:21Did you do that?
37:26He didn't do it
37:28You're from Brazil
37:29Yes
37:30You're working
37:32You have no permission to work
37:33You have no permission to be in the country
37:35Seeing as you've broken all these I can apply for a deportation order for you
37:40When you get a deportation order you will get notification of it
37:43And if you do not leave we will try and locate you, arrest you and deport you
37:49Once the deportation order is issued you must leave and it's there forever
37:54If you are deported you can never return to Ireland
37:58Your chances are gone
38:01The other option is that you may leave the country of your own free will
38:05It's called a supervised exit
38:07One of my immigration officer's colleagues will meet you at the airport
38:10They will supervise your exit departing the state
38:15The choices are his now at the moment
38:18This gives him a chance to leave the country voluntarily
38:22And he may come back again legally when he has documents in order
38:26Do you want time to think about it or have you made a decision now which avenue you want to
38:31go down?
38:36If I want to go
38:38Okay, all right
38:39This was never really long time for him
38:41I think he just came to make a point and go home
38:44Okay
38:45We tried to give them a chance
38:46Especially the students
38:48Because some of them are just trying to make a living
38:50And they've overstayed
38:52They've been making a few bob
38:53Able to send it home
38:55But at the same time
38:57We're immigration officers
38:59They're the laws of our country
39:01That's what we've got to do
39:15As Stephen further examines the digital evidence downloaded from the suspects phone
39:20A motive for the financial exploitation starts to appear
39:29There was definitely evidence there to suggest that some of the money was being used on gambling
39:35With an apparent motive now established
39:38Stephen calls the suspect
39:40Due to the sensitive nature of the case and the vulnerabilities of the people involved
39:44He's determined to resolve it as soon as possible
39:48How are you feeling?
39:51Now look, don't be scared first and foremost
39:56Look, we'll be straight with each other, right?
39:58I'm being honest with you and you be honest with me, okay?
40:00There is an issue there
40:01In relation to money and how money is spent and what money has been spent on
40:06You have so much promise in your life
40:09That if you take the steps now to start to learn how to manage that
40:14And how to stay away from casinos
40:16Then you will get to a point where you can live a fully independent life
40:20And then you're not turning to friends to look for money off them
40:25This is the problem here
40:30You don't have to be apologising for crying
40:34Right? I get how this is having an effect on you and I understand that
40:39What's your biggest worry at the minute?
40:44Mm-hmm
40:47Right, take that out of your head
40:50Okay, you're not going to be going to jail
40:53You've never been in trouble with the guards before
40:57And I hope that this will be enough for you never to do it again
41:01In an effort to resolve the issue
41:03The suspect's family have agreed to pay back all the money that was taken from the victim
41:08All I can say to you is I was talking to your grandmother today on the phone
41:12And she has explained to me the process of the payment plans
41:17If those steps are taken, I will use that in my file
41:20And show that you're supporting the investigation and know that you've done wrong
41:25You want to be leaving this whole situation with a clean slate, no debt, owe nobody any money
41:31And then you'll be able to move on with your life
41:34Is that fair enough?
41:38To all she have a vote
41:41When you deal with people with vulnerabilities, it's not necessarily a badness in the person that makes them commit a
41:48crime
41:49It's perhaps a lack of knowledge of day-to-day life
41:53And you have to deal with the suspect the same as you deal with the injured party
42:01With a resolution to the financial exploitation case now in place
42:06Stephen sits down with the victim and their care worker one last time
42:10To ensure they are happy with the outcome of the investigation
42:14Where we are currently in the investigation is that
42:19Today will kind of be the start of the end of it, alright?
42:23But I want to make sure that you're okay with how things have gone
42:30Are you happy about receiving the money back that you're receiving?
42:34Yeah
42:34Did you think that would ever happen?
42:37No
42:39That kind of shows that there is remorse
42:43So they're not going to be arrested
42:45Personally, I would like to see them getting a caution
42:50Do you think you're in a better place now than you were before you made the report?
42:57Yeah
42:57Definitely
42:58Yes
42:59And what do you see that's, was it different now than it was before?
43:06I have times to be really on edge all the time
43:09I actually feel silly
43:10Good stuff
43:11Yeah
43:13Do you think that you're starting to get your life back?
43:17Yeah
43:18Are you enjoying it?
43:19Yeah
43:20Right
43:22Come here, I'm purposely not going to be calling up to you
43:25Right?
43:26I just want you to see what life is like without the uniform around
43:30Right?
43:31You don't need us there all the time
43:34But it's massive for you
43:36Because those meetings and stuff
43:38Where I pushed your case and you were there
43:40And the two of us together says, you can do it
43:44Right?
43:45You're proving it
43:46You're proving it now
43:47You're proving it now
43:48It's about you showing them that you can be this person
43:53Right?
43:54Which is yourself
44:0212 months before this report was made, it was well up on a hundred calls to this person
44:11And in the last 18 days there hasn't been one
44:14Do you know? So it has completely done a U-turn
44:17No, she's a total different person than when I would have met back in October
44:23Like
44:26Yeah, that's
44:28That is job satisfaction
44:31That's what I joined the job for
44:36When you're dealing with vulnerable people, it's very important to keep the door open to those people
44:41Because the problems still exist
44:43And if you're the support before this issue arose, you have to be in a position to be the support
44:48after
44:56At times, obviously, it's a very serious job, but I personally get a really good kick off, like, you know,
45:04helping people
45:05If you go to a doctor, the doctor is going to take one look at you, they're going to say,
45:09Jesus, no, you need to go to the hospital
45:12If you don't want to go out on your own, we can call an ambulance here
45:17I've no problem doing that for you, that's not a problem
45:20You know, affecting people's lives, maybe just in the slightest of way, but it makes you feel good, like, if
45:25you come home and you feel like you've put in a good shift, you've done something well, you've helped someone
45:29We were just doing a patrol, we noticed this glass
45:32You do a great job, thank you
45:34Oh, thanks very much
45:38You have to understand, I suppose, what the job expects of you
45:43So, Leopard never changes his spots
45:47I know he's your grandson and all, but he's causing you trouble, like
45:50You're, you're aggressive on the street, I have every friggin' right
45:53And I've already asked you your name and address and you haven't told me
45:56They call us every name under the sun
46:00But once they become a victim of crime
46:04We're the first person to call
46:17You can be put in a situation where you see things that no human being would like to see
46:27You're dealing with so much trauma, so much not nice stuff, that, like, it's great when you have great people
46:32around you
46:36Yeah
46:36That was awesome
46:39Something might have came out on the news and you have family saying, well, are you okay? Like, but, of
46:45course I'm okay
46:45Like, I have 20-odd people with me at all times and we're all going through the same thing
46:51Well, howdy
46:52How are you doing?
46:53Good
46:53There's a nice crowd down at Dolan's
46:55Oh, yes
46:56I know, Dan's out
46:57They're nearly coming like your brothers and sisters in one sense
47:02Pink bunny
47:03Pink bunny
47:07That's burnt alright
47:08Most of the few marshmallows
47:12That's your family, for those 12 hours
47:14You'll do everything to help each other, protect each other
47:20Guards do get emotional, guards do react
47:23You know what I mean?
47:25You're human
