00:01This program documents actual homicide investigations.
00:05Criminal charges are often dropped or reduced,
00:07and all suspects shown are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
00:20Just before midnight in the Norcross neighborhood.
00:26When accounting 911, what's location of your emergency?
00:30Uh, I'm at the Horizon Hotel off of Dawson,
00:32and there's gunshots.
00:34Somebody's shooting me.
00:36Somebody's screaming outside that he just got shot.
00:39Clinic County 911.
00:41Junk's fired. Two things. Junk's fired.
00:43He's on the floor. He's dying.
00:45He's getting there. He's getting there.
00:48Is he still breathing?
00:50He's dying. Go police!
00:59Yes!
01:04Everybody move out for this!
01:06Who was wrong?
01:07105. I've got a male with a gunshot wound to the upper chest.
01:11They update the med. Unit going unresponsive.
01:17He's got multiples, like, two to the chest. Barely breathing.Ø£
01:20september eight, fourk!
01:23EMS rushes the victim to the hospital.
01:28But he doesn't survive.
01:38For homicide detectives, their chance of solving a murder is cut in half if they don't get a lead within
01:45the first 48 hours.
02:01What's up?
02:03Bryce is on the way.
02:04She's the lead.
02:05Okay.
02:06I'll show you about here.
02:10Basically, everything happened right here.
02:14That's where he was laying.
02:16Right there.
02:19We have the guy identified.
02:23The victim, 29-year-old Andre Jones, worked as a logistics specialist for a freight company.
02:30He had been staying at the hotel where he was killed, but was in the process of moving out to
02:35live with his mother.
02:37Andre had eight siblings and was the proud father of three young boys.
02:46Through and through.
02:48Andre was shot twice in the chest.
02:52There's a couple of cell casings right here.
02:55The casings are both nine millimeter.
03:01The camera is filming down this way.
03:04We can upload the video.
03:06Yeah.
03:07I got a good witness to talk to.
03:09As far as the other witnesses, good luck.
03:12Yeah.
03:12Because there was about 30 of them out here.
03:14Yeah.
03:14And nobody saw anything.
03:15Okay.
03:16So, I think he's the most important one right now.
03:19I'll go do that now.
03:23What's up?
03:24I'm detect over early.
03:25Can we go talk over there?
03:26I just want to hear what happened from your standpoint.
03:36He knows the victim, Andre, as Tez.
03:41So, I came down.
03:42He wanted me to go to the store for me.
03:45I said, yeah, I was on the store for me.
03:47When we had him start walking, it was just a direction.
03:50After I'm walking, I looked up.
03:53I see two guys with an open gun.
03:56And they jumped off the door right now.
03:58When I had a few recent guns in the car.
04:00And I can't remember.
04:01The other one was running off the car.
04:04They had a mask.
04:05They both had masks on?
04:06That's all he knew, because when he seen me jump down,
04:10he dashed the doors on me.
04:12They basically just did it like this when we walked past.
04:16Was he mad at them or anything?
04:17Or did he just say, hey, you know, like...
04:19He was like, what's up, yo?
04:21So, me and him walking behind them.
04:24They turned to me with that.
04:26And by the time we got in return, they coming back.
04:30So, when they passed us, I took on one
04:33because I think he took behind me.
04:34Yeah.
04:35So, then I took around.
04:36He coming back this way, and again.
04:39So, I said, hey, what's up?
04:40He's like...
04:41He's jumping around.
04:42Got him speeding up towards me.
04:44Then the dog said, just go to the office and get me a soda.
04:46I said, I got you.
04:48Got the dog from him.
04:49See him, I turned around.
04:50Ah, ah.
04:53Shot.
04:54I didn't see this lady took off and anything.
04:58The second guy was still there.
05:01The darker hoodie?
05:02What?
05:03He was with the shooter.
05:05I didn't see him going that way, but I was still focusing, too.
05:08So, I mean, just be still.
05:09Still going down, going back.
05:11Yeah.
05:13Did he call them by any kind of nickname or anything?
05:16Well, he said, what?
05:17So.
05:19All right, man.
05:21Appreciate you hanging around.
05:28Hey.
05:29Hey.
05:30Lead detective Julie Price arrives on scene.
05:33Someone came up to York about somebody to look into.
05:38I was like, would you at least talk to one of my people now?
05:41And she's like, no.
05:42I don't want my name involved.
05:44While Sergeant Dallas York was canvassing the hotel, a guest said the man staying in room 243 may be involved.
05:53That checked out.
05:54But according to the manager, the man in that room checked out this morning.
06:00Well, I think we're going to have to regroup and put all the video and everything together.
06:05Yeah.
06:05I don't know what else we're going to be able to do up here.
06:08There's the closet.
06:09The manager gave York the names of all the hotel guests for that day.
06:17This hotel shares their cameras with Gwinnett Police Department.
06:22So I'm going to go back to headquarters and just review a bunch of video.
06:25Yeah.
06:41So the car comes and stops on 85.
06:46So here's the hotel.
06:47It stops right here.
06:49The team pulls up the security video from around the time of the murder.
06:54They get off the exit ramp on 85 right there behind Horizon.
06:58It sits up here with its hazard lights on.
07:01Six minutes before the shooting, the suspect's car stops on the side of the highway.
07:09They both come down the embankment.
07:15There's no cameras back there?
07:16The one on the back side's down.
07:22So there in the back, orange hoodie.
07:28And then the dark hoodie with bandana print sleeves.
07:32That's the victim in the white hoodie.
07:37So they pass the victim.
07:39Like they're thinking about it.
07:47And then they turn around and go back.
07:58The guy in the bandana print hoodie pulls his gun, fires two shots.
08:03They take off.
08:07It looks like he was targeted.
08:11They come running back up.
08:14You see him go back across the back of the car with his orange hoodie.
08:21So we got some good clothing to look for if we can figure out where to go.
08:25Yeah.
08:27So they have a camera that points basically at the roadway.
08:32And that's him pulling through.
08:35So that's the car right there?
08:36That's the car.
08:38It's going to be a dark car.
08:40Definitely dark.
08:42It's definitely a sedan.
08:45And there's nothing, there's no cameras up there that we can see which way that car goes.
08:50That's right now.
08:54Some girl gave a room number and said, you need to look at this guy, Jahari.
09:00The man in room 243, whom the tipster said may be involved, is 28-year-old Jahari Foster.
09:07There's no vehicles that look good that are associated.
09:11And he also just checked out that morning.
09:14But Jahari doesn't drive a dark-colored sedan.
09:17And he checked out of the hotel 12 hours before the shooting.
09:23Yeah.
09:25Right now, I don't have any suspects.
09:29I'm hoping that somebody will call and just give me some little kind of detail in order for me to
09:35run with to figure out who these guys are.
09:47Later that morning...
09:48Detective, are you, sir?
09:51A guest from the hotel comes forward.
09:53With information about Andre's murder.
09:56Your tenant just told me that you have some information.
09:59They killed my friend last night.
10:02I'm sorry to hear that.
10:05What was your friend's name?
10:07Andre Jones.
10:08He went by another name, though, right?
10:09Because I went there about that you took them in the street morning.
10:15And a test came out from the second floor.
10:18And he's like, man, I fell asleep.
10:20He stole their gun in their arms to the back.
10:25So, Ted's gun not stolen?
10:26No.
10:27Some...
10:28Somebody's gone...
10:29She says Andre came into possession of a stolen gun and was planning to return it to the owner.
10:34But, you know, he stole that gun while Ted was asleep.
10:40And he sold it before Ted was back to Duke.
10:44That's why the shooting happened.
10:59And he's like, okay, so he had the gun initially, is what he told you?
11:07And he got it.
11:09However, Ted said, I fell asleep and he stole it.
11:12And now I got to steal it back.
11:20Why does he think that he has to steal it back?
11:23I guess they're really mean it's real heat so he can get the gun back.
11:26I don't know.
11:29But basically, they're trying to make it seem like it was Ted's responsible for this.
11:34She says the owner of the gun mistakenly thought Andre had stolen it.
11:39They're saying that the dude whose gun it is might be staying in that room 243, which is cleared out.
11:48She doesn't know the gun owner's name, but gives the room number that was registered to Jahari Foster.
11:55Did you see the shooting itself?
11:57No.
11:57Okay.
11:58You were in the shots with that room when I came out.
12:02Okay.
12:03Maybe it's a bank for you.
12:10So the rumor mill is that all of this is over a stolen gun.
12:14Ready to go.
12:15She said that Andre wasn't the one that stole it, but somehow the gun's owner believed that Andre was the
12:19one that stole it.
12:21She also provided the same room number as the other tipster that Jahari Foster was staying in.
12:28But we need more than just rumors to put him at the scene.
12:38Later that afternoon.
12:39How are you?
12:41So yesterday when we came in, we started looking back through some of the video from the other camera views.
12:48After combing through more of the hotel's surveillance video, the crime prevention unit has a lead.
12:55Ricketts pulled footage from earlier in the day and actually located the guy in the orange hoodie.
13:00So once we found him, we explored a lot more of the video, and we actually identified them parking at
13:08the rooms to go, walking over to the horizon earlier in the day, kind of scoping things out.
13:13Five hours before the homicide, three men appear to be casing the hotel.
13:20The subject with the orange hoodie actually obtains it from a female on the second floor as he's walking in.
13:26You see the female with the orange hoodie just walking down the hall.
13:30He literally just walks up the stairs.
13:32She's already walking down the hallway with it.
13:34It's just a pass off, and she walks one direction, he walks the other.
13:45Do you all recognize that female at all?
13:48No.
13:48I was trying to get a better picture of her face.
13:54When this went earlier, we actually get a decent shot of his face.
13:59He walks this way, and then they kind of stop, and then they were talking to each other.
14:06It looks like Jahari.
14:07Price believes the suspect with the orange hoodie is the man who rented room 243, Jahari Foster.
14:15The two other subjects that he was with come around the backside of the building.
14:20They've already got their hoodies up.
14:23The second guy actually, like, pulls his drawstring tight to conceal his face.
14:34They go up.
14:35They're up there a very short time.
14:37They kind of walk around, and then they come back down.
14:42So this is the subject in the gray hoodie.
14:45He's going to be the actual shooter, because he's wearing the same handkerchief-looking hoodie during the homicide.
14:56He meets up with the other two.
15:01Once they are leaving, they walk right back to the car that they came from.
15:09And then a few seconds later, you'll see the black passenger car and the rooms-to-go parking lot come
15:15around the left side of the building.
15:19We ended up identifying the vehicle as a Ford 500 passenger car.
15:27This is the Ford 500, leaving rooms-to-go.
15:34Once we had this video, we pulled the fly kits, and Moon was able to identify the tag.
15:40The car is registered to 35-year-old Tyrus Lane from DeKalb County.
15:45You've got a very long and interesting room on this one.
15:50Tyrus has several prior convictions, including armed robbery and aggravated assault.
15:56The way it looked in one of the views from the night of the NSA, it almost looks like there's
16:01brake lights on before they get up to the car.
16:03It almost looks like there was somebody still in the car.
16:07Officers believe Tyrus could be the getaway driver.
16:12The car seems like it doesn't come here very often.
16:15It seems like it tends to stay down in style like Dunwoody and Dora Valeria, Chambly.
16:23Right there at the Motel 6.
16:27There it goes.
16:29After the homicide, the suspect vehicle was captured by traffic cameras at a motel in Chambly, about 20 miles west
16:36of Gwinnett.
16:37That's all we did?
16:38That was pretty good.
16:39I appreciate you guys meeting with us.
16:41I really do appreciate the right here.
16:51Look, right here.
16:53That's got to be the same one.
16:55The team takes a closer look at the hotel surveillance video from around the time of the murder.
17:01She's wearing the same .
17:03That's the same, it's the same female.
17:05Yeah.
17:06When they first come, she hands the suspect, which looks like Jahari, the orange sweatshirt.
17:16And then during the homicide, she's standing there on her phone.
17:23It's like she's looking and waiting.
17:26I wonder if she called.
17:28And said, hey, he's here out front.
17:29Hey, they're here.
17:31She's the lookout.
17:32Yep.
17:34She's involved.
17:35She already knew what was going to happen.
17:37I don't see how she's not a participant.
17:40If she wasn't a part of it, she should be able to tell me who was.
17:43We've got to figure out who she is.
17:5419 hours in.
17:57Price returns to the hotel to ask the staff if they recognize the female in the surveillance video.
18:04They do know her.
18:06She's been here, they said, for like the last three or four days, but they don't really know her name
18:10or anything.
18:11But he did take my card, and he says, if I find her and I can get a name, I'll
18:14text you.
18:17So at this point, I believe that the person in the orange hoodie is Jahari Foster.
18:22However, I need somebody to ID him and tell us who the other two suspects are.
18:28I've got the reasonable suspicion part.
18:30It's just not going to hold up that far in court.
18:32So I need just a little bit more.
18:48We're about to go ahead, Chambly, for video footage, see if we get a clearer picture of their faces.
18:53The team heads to the motel, where the suspect vehicle was captured on traffic cameras after the homicide.
19:01Ready.
19:07They asked the motel manager to pull up video from that night.
19:15They asked the motel manager to pull up video from that.
19:16We got them.
19:17They are there.
19:21Look at them showing up immediately after the homicide.
19:25Boom.
19:40They show up, it's three of them.
19:43Two of them come out.
19:48My man still has the orange hoodie.
19:52Fifteen minutes after the murder,
19:54two of the three suspects are seen getting out of the suspect vehicle
19:57at the motel in Chambly.
19:59In the driver's seat,
20:01that's probably more than likely the registered owner.
20:06That's good stuff.
20:09You see them hanging out in the corner
20:11and talking for a couple minutes, smoking a cigarette,
20:15but you don't see what room they go in.
20:18The suspects disappear into one of two rooms off camera.
20:22So this is the room roster for everyone who's rented the room
20:26here at the Studio 6.
20:28On the night of the murder,
20:30both rooms out of camera view were rented by women.
20:33Price can look at this.
20:35We're in business.
20:42According to Swazza, they go into room like 214 or 215,
20:45both registered to females.
20:47So I got to see who they're connected with.
20:50Price researched the women in the two rooms,
20:52but has been unable to find a link to the suspects.
20:56I think that's Jahari there.
20:59The driver, I think, is going to be registered owner.
21:02I'm still trying to figure out who this guy is,
21:04but those are the same exact shorts
21:06and same Pumas as a shooter.
21:09I think he's got the actual hoodie
21:11balled up in his arm right now.
21:14So I've known two out of three,
21:15but I still don't know who my shooter is.
21:34Three days later...
21:37It's still so unreal to me that my son is gone.
21:40Price speaks with Andre's mother.
21:43You hear about it, you see it,
21:45you just don't expect it to be you.
21:48No.
21:50The story I'm getting of it is
21:52he got blamed for stealing a gun,
21:54but the rumor is that it was somebody else
21:57and he got blamed for it.
21:58And then, of course, this happened.
22:01Right.
22:02If my son had done something,
22:04he would tell me.
22:06He's never lied to me.
22:07Yeah.
22:08He never kept anything from me,
22:09even when he got in trouble as a young youth.
22:14I'm so torn.
22:15I can't even explain it.
22:17This is the child who calls me
22:20just to tell me he loves me.
22:22You know?
22:23He's never going to have that.
22:26Again,
22:28the kids are torn.
22:29My oldest boy can't even come out the house.
22:33It has really devastated my whole entire family.
22:36Yeah.
22:37Hopefully, I'll have some news for you here
22:39by the end of the week,
22:40but I'll contact you as soon as I can, okay?
22:44All right.
22:44Thank you so much.
22:45Bye.
22:46Okay.
22:47All right.
22:47Bye-bye.
22:52Then...
22:52The Department of Labor came back with
22:54where Johari works.
22:57This is the shirt logo.
22:59According to the Department of Labor,
23:02Johari works for a moving company in Norcross.
23:05This is the back of the hoodie.
23:08Can't really quite make it out,
23:10but it's there, though.
23:12And then here is his face shot
23:17wearing said hoodie.
23:19So he's wearing his work hoodie.
23:22So I'm going to run over to Norcross
23:24and talk to a manager.
23:26Confirm, A, that's your logo,
23:27and B, who's that?
23:30Because we've only been able to guess
23:31that that's Johari,
23:32so I just need somebody to tell me,
23:34yep, that's him.
23:39Later that afternoon...
23:43Price and Sergeant Michael Poppy
23:45pay a visit to Johari's manager.
23:47He said, yeah, that's their logo.
23:49He said, yeah, that's their hoodie.
23:51Then flipped it over and showed him the guy.
23:53And he goes, I mean, he looks familiar.
23:56I was like, well, if you had to guess who,
23:58and he points to, on the wall,
23:59they have all their employees,
24:01he points to Johari Foster's photo
24:03and says, hey, I got enough to pull Warren's.
24:06Now, he will be here Wednesday, 8 a.m.
24:10Johari's next scheduled shift is in two days.
24:14I mean, there's no reason not to hook him up with me.
24:17He gave me his phone number, right?
24:19His Facebook username.
24:22The manager said he contacts Johari
24:24through Facebook.
24:26So that was Golden.
24:28I just would like to have a name
24:29of the third guy and a shooter.
24:37The next day...
24:40This is my hat.
24:41...Early gets a lead on the third suspect.
24:44So I just went to Johari's Facebook.
24:47I went to his profile picture
24:48and just looked at the two people that liked it,
24:52and one is this guy.
24:55He's got the chin.
24:56He's got the short hair.
24:58Yeah, he's got the long beard
25:00that the shooter has.
25:03I think that's him.
25:05Yeah.
25:06That's definitely him.
25:06That looks like him.
25:08Demetrius Bush.
25:23It looks to me like the same guy
25:25that we have for the shooting.
25:27That big, long, goatee.
25:29His short hair.
25:30Same build.
25:35Now I've got a close criminal.
25:36Oh, yeah.
25:3933-year-old Demetrius Bush
25:41was born in Maryland
25:42and grew up in Atlanta.
25:44He has prior convictions
25:45for possession of cocaine
25:46and possession of a firearm
25:48while committing a felony.
25:50He's wanted for probation violation.
25:53He has an active warrant
25:54for violating his probation.
25:57All right.
25:58So then I check.
26:02Right.
26:05Price checks the guest registry
26:06from the motel
26:07where the suspects were dropped off
26:09after the murder.
26:11I know which room he goes in.
26:142-14.
26:16One of the two females
26:17who rented a room
26:18on the night of the murder
26:19has the same last name as Demetrius.
26:22So we've got to get eyes on the hotel
26:24to see if he's still staying there.
26:26If I can just get him
26:27going in and out it,
26:28I'm golden to go search that room
26:30because that is where they go after.
26:38The next morning.
26:40So a short while ago,
26:42our gang unit was able
26:43to go out to the Studio 6
26:46motel in Chambly
26:48looking for one of our suspects.
26:50They were able to lay eyes on him
26:53and watched him go back
26:55into room 2-14.
26:56They came back out
26:57a short while later
26:58and they were able to jump out
26:59and grab him
27:00and place him under arrest
27:01for a probation violation warrant
27:03that he has.
27:04The suspected shooter,
27:06Demetrius Bush,
27:07is on his way to headquarters
27:08for questioning.
27:10We're going to search his room.
27:11We're looking for some clothing
27:12that he was wearing
27:13and possibly the murder weapon.
27:16Hopefully we get enough now
27:17to charge him with murder also.
27:26The team searches the room
27:27where Demetrius was staying.
27:34We recovered the clothing
27:35that Mr. Bush had
27:37when the homicide occurred.
27:40The whole get-up was in there.
27:42Shoe,
27:44shorts,
27:46Paisley hoodie
27:48the whole night.
27:50But there was no sign
27:51of the murder weapon.
27:53At this point,
27:54we have enough
27:54to take out arrest warrants,
27:56take him to jail.
27:58We're about to go
27:58talk to him now.
28:00We're at headquarters
28:00and see what he has to say.
28:08Hey, ma'am.
28:09Good.
28:10I'm Detective Price.
28:13Detective Swazil.
28:14Oh, Price Swazil.
28:15Yes.
28:18And you're Mr. Bush?
28:19Yes.
28:20Okay.
28:20So,
28:21have you ever been
28:22to the Horizon?
28:24No, I don't go
28:24to the Horizon.
28:26Well,
28:26on Wednesday,
28:28there was
28:28a homicide
28:29that occurred there.
28:30And
28:31there was clothing
28:32specific with the shooter
28:34at the homicide.
28:35Okay?
28:36That clothing
28:37was found in your room,
28:38all right?
28:38So...
28:39No kidding, no!
28:41So, you're getting
28:41charged with
28:42malice murder,
28:43felony murder.
28:44I couldn't do
28:45me like that?
28:46Possession of a firearm
28:47and possession
28:48by a convicted felon,
28:49okay?
28:49Yeah.
28:50It's too easy.
28:52Y'all playing
28:52it like that for you?
28:54So, here's the thing.
28:55There's enough
28:56probable cause
28:56to talk to a judge
28:58to get these warrants.
28:59We're not playing with you.
29:01I need a lawyer.
29:03All right, brother.
29:04Gotcha.
29:04Good luck.
29:13He wasn't having it
29:14and asked for a lawyer.
29:16But it's a good feeling
29:17when you got the shooter
29:18arrested.
29:25While I was up here
29:26waiting for Mr. Bush
29:27to get up here,
29:28we got intel that
29:29there's a dad
29:30looking for his daughter.
29:32He went to the Horizon Inn.
29:34Well, the manager
29:34has the photo
29:35of the female
29:36that we're looking for
29:37in Casey Caesar
29:38shows dad and was like,
29:39hey, I know pretty much
29:40everybody here
29:41and everybody around,
29:42but I don't know
29:43who this is.
29:44Maybe this is her?
29:45And he goes,
29:45yeah, that's my daughter.
29:47The female seen
29:48handing Jahari Foster
29:49the orange hoodie
29:50in the surveillance video
29:51has been identified
29:53as a teenage runaway,
29:54but her location
29:55is unknown.
29:56So now we have
29:58vice unit,
29:59special victims unit,
30:01narcotics.
30:02They're all looking for her.
30:03And I do have
30:05active warrants
30:07out on Jahari Foster.
30:09We were told
30:10that Jahari works
30:11tomorrow at 8 a.m.
30:13Hopefully we'll get him
30:15tomorrow morning.
30:21The next morning.
30:23Fugitives just texted me
30:24saying that
30:26Jahari is 1090,
30:27he's arrested.
30:29The plan is for them
30:30to bring him up here
30:31so we can attempt
30:32to interview him.
30:34If anybody's gonna talk,
30:35I think it's gonna be Jahari.
30:49He blew it up
30:50as soon as he walked in.
30:51Did he?
30:52Yeah.
30:53On his way into homicide,
30:55Jahari Foster
30:55asked for a lawyer.
30:58He's like,
30:58what are even my charges?
31:00I told him.
31:01Malice murder,
31:02felony murder.
31:02And he's like,
31:03what?
31:04And I was like,
31:05listen,
31:05I want to talk to you
31:06about him,
31:06but you're not
31:07because you already
31:07want a lawyer
31:07and I can't talk
31:08to you right now.
31:15I'm just trying to,
31:16I don't understand it
31:17because honestly,
31:18I don't need
31:18my final arm.
31:19Yeah.
31:20My final arm got stolen
31:21from me two weeks ago
31:22at that hotel.
31:24So I don't even know
31:24what's going on.
31:26And like I said,
31:27I do want to talk to you,
31:28okay?
31:29So if you want to talk to me
31:30but you want a lawyer present,
31:32that's fine.
31:33I understand that
31:33I got a job to do,
31:34but I don't need
31:34any present to pertain me.
31:36Okay.
31:36Some serious charges
31:37that I don't even need.
31:39Trust me,
31:39I know.
31:39Oh, yeah,
31:40I got to do it.
31:42I'll give you my card
31:43and you can take
31:44this with you,
31:44okay?
31:45I have nothing behind you.
31:46Yeah.
31:48We will get you
31:49transported to jail.
31:54He says he doesn't
31:55even own a gun
31:55because his gun
31:56got stolen
31:56two weeks ago.
31:58Feels good
31:59that I have
31:59these two in custody
32:01and I'm like
32:02this close
32:03away from getting
32:04the third person.
32:05I just need
32:05that one little nugget
32:06to put Tyrus
32:07at the location.
32:09As soon as I do that,
32:10I'm good.
32:11We got to find
32:12the female too.
32:14Yeah, yeah.
32:2311 days later.
32:25So,
32:27the female miner
32:28that we were looking for
32:29got picked up.
32:30The teenage runaway
32:32seen on video
32:32handing Jahari
32:33the orange hoodie
32:34was tracked down
32:35and interviewed
32:36by the special
32:37victims unit.
32:38They did a forensic
32:39interview with her.
32:40she ends up
32:41talking about
32:42the shooting
32:43in detail.
32:44At first,
32:45she says that
32:47Jahari believed
32:48that it was
32:48his ex-girlfriend
32:49that stole his gun.
32:51He heard later
32:52then that it was
32:53a male
32:54and then she was
32:55supposed to run around
32:56and try to figure out
32:58who the male was
32:58but he supposedly
33:00figured it out first.
33:01She knew Jahari
33:02was looking to fight
33:03but after the shooting
33:05she then realized
33:06it wasn't to fight
33:07it was to actually
33:08shoot him.
33:09because she
33:10she flat out
33:11asked said
33:12what's his plan
33:12and he eventually
33:13confessed and said
33:14it was planned.
33:16And then she talks
33:17about how afterwards
33:18at the hotel
33:20she's with
33:21Jahari and Bush
33:22and Bush
33:24starts talking
33:24about his body count
33:25and how he just
33:27killed somebody
33:27but the miner
33:29couldn't call
33:30police at all
33:31about anything
33:32because she was
33:33on the run herself
33:33being a runaway.
33:36The young female
33:37will not be charged.
33:39and has been released.
33:41Unfortunately
33:41she didn't mention
33:42anything about
33:43a driver
33:44in her interview
33:45so at this point
33:46we're still trying
33:47to figure out
33:48how to tie Tyrus
33:49to the murder
33:50and we're still
33:51trying to locate
33:52his car.
34:02A month later
34:04So we're headed down
34:05to Clayton County
34:07Tyrus has a meeting
34:09right now
34:09with his probation officer
34:11so we're headed
34:12down there
34:12to hopefully
34:13intercept him.
34:14The team
34:15plans to confront Tyrus
34:17after he meets
34:18with his probation officer.
34:19I have plenty
34:20to take his car
34:21I just can't say
34:22that he's the one
34:23that was driving it.
34:25But if we go down here
34:26and he says
34:27I'm the only person
34:28to ever drive my car
34:28nobody drives my car
34:30that kind of stuff
34:30that would be golden.
34:32I would be comfortable
34:33pulling warrants
34:34on him too.
34:42This is him right here
34:43standing outside his car.
34:48Hey I'm Detective Price.
34:50Just go ahead
34:50and have a seat right there.
34:52Tyrus agrees
34:53to speak with Price
34:54and Corporal Rodrigo Araya
34:56inside Sergeant Hegwood's car.
35:00But I just got
35:01a couple black ones
35:02for you.
35:03That's your car?
35:05Yes that's my car.
35:08Does anybody else
35:09drive your car?
35:11No.
35:12Not recently.
35:14When was the last time
35:15somebody drove your car?
35:17June, July.
35:20One of the guys
35:21who stayed over there
35:22in the studio asleep
35:22they said
35:24we had to run errands.
35:27Who was that?
35:28Um
35:31that name
35:32Meech.
35:33Meech?
35:34Mhmm.
35:49You know Meech's real name?
35:52I don't.
35:58How long did you
35:59give him your car for?
36:00Um
36:01hour and a half
36:02at the most I did.
36:04I got some photos for you.
36:06Do you recognize
36:07those two?
36:08Price shows him
36:09a photo of
36:10Jahari Foster
36:11and Demetrius Bush
36:12being dropped off
36:13at the motel
36:14after the murder.
36:16That's Meech.
36:17He identifies
36:18Demetrius
36:19as Meech.
36:21Do you know
36:21who was behind him?
36:24Have you ever
36:25seen him before?
36:26I don't know
36:27his name.
36:28I've seen him
36:28over there
36:29a couple times before.
36:30Can you see
36:32this vehicle?
36:34Does that look
36:35like your car?
36:36Yeah.
36:37But you don't know
36:37who would have been
36:38driving your car?
36:39Meech.
36:40No, Meech gets
36:41out of the passenger seat.
36:43Oh, no.
36:44I don't know
36:44what we've grown
36:45with him then.
36:45No, I don't.
36:47So over at the Horizon
36:48and there was a homicide,
36:49right?
36:49Oh, please.
36:50And your car was seen
36:53at the homicide,
36:54like used in the homicide.
36:58So that's why
36:59I'm here talking
36:59to you.
37:02Do you have
37:02any reason
37:03to be out there
37:03at the Horizon Inn?
37:04I don't even
37:05around with it.
37:07No.
37:08No.
37:10I'm most definitely not.
37:11Do you have any
37:12text messages
37:12or anything with Meech?
37:14No, I got my
37:15on Autodeon.
37:16Would you mind
37:17if we took a look
37:18at your phone
37:19just to kind
37:19of confirm that?
37:21Tyrus hands over
37:22his phone.
37:24So what we're
37:25going to be doing
37:26is taking your car
37:28up to Gwinnett County
37:30police headquarters.
37:31And then once
37:32we're done
37:32with the car,
37:32I'll call you.
37:34All right, that's
37:34cool.
37:35All right.
37:36I appreciate you
37:36talking with us.
37:45You're good to go.
37:46All right.
37:51I'm still convinced
37:52it's him.
37:53Yeah, story
37:54still doesn't
37:54make sense.
37:55It doesn't
37:55make sense.
37:57It just sucks
37:58that it's like,
37:58you know it's him,
37:59but you just
38:00don't have enough.
38:01The last thing
38:02you have
38:02is going to be
38:03his phone.
38:04I know.
38:17One week later.
38:20I did a search
38:21for it on the car.
38:22There was nothing
38:22remarkable in the car.
38:26This here is
38:28Tyrus Lane's phone.
38:32It seems like
38:33on the 17th
38:35through the 18th,
38:36he deleted
38:37all of his stuff.
38:40But if you go
38:41into Google
38:43the day
38:44of the homicide,
38:4510.30,
38:46he's searching
38:46for Studio 6,
38:48which is where
38:48I believe
38:49Demetrius and
38:50Jahari were
38:51picked up from.
38:53About an hour
38:54before the 911 call,
38:56Tyrus searched
38:57for directions
38:58to the motel
38:58in Chambley,
38:59where Demetrius
39:00was staying
39:01with his relative.
39:03Then at 11.40,
39:05he puts the Studio 6
39:06back into his maps.
39:08Seven minutes
39:09before the shooting,
39:10while his car
39:10was parked
39:11on the exit ramp
39:12near the crime scene,
39:13Tyrus searched
39:14for directions
39:15back to the same motel.
39:18Then,
39:18just like an hour
39:19or so after
39:20the homicide,
39:21he's searching
39:21Google Help
39:22to delete
39:23his browser history
39:24in both
39:25his search browser
39:27and maps.
39:28Yeah,
39:29so it's hard
39:29to say
39:30that he
39:30wasn't involved.
39:33I have asked
39:34for indictment
39:35on this
39:35by the DA's office.
39:37Price will wait
39:38for the district
39:39attorney to decide
39:40if there's enough
39:41evidence to charge
39:42Tyrus Lane
39:42with the murder
39:43of Andre Jones.
39:45I feel good
39:46about it now.
39:47I think it's a pretty
39:48solid case
39:49against those three.
39:52Obviously,
39:53Andre didn't
39:54deserve to die.
39:56I think he was just
39:57an unfortunate
39:59target of bad rumors.
40:22I think he was just
40:34one month after andre was killed thank you you're welcome beautiful his family and friends
40:42gather to celebrate his life on his mother's birthday
40:49you know that when he was little he looked just like you
40:57i thank everybody for being here and i appreciate y'all celebrating my birthday with me andre
41:05i know everybody here is still hurting i know we're all grieving and maybe this will finally
41:11give us that closure we need to continue our grieving process for me it's a little different
41:17i'm probably gonna grieve for quite some time it's a child it's my child that's a hard pill
41:24to swallow to know that his life was cut short and especially by gun violence so i'm hoping that
41:32many of you or all of you will help me take up that mantle in helping with reform for gun
41:38violence
41:39so that we can help with some change especially in our communities
41:45i'm trying not to have hate and vengeance i'm trying but i can't believe someone stole his
41:51life like that there are days when i just can't breathe and i literally break down
41:58someone told me that our children are not ours god gave them to us forever long and he's called him
42:04back home so if i look at it like that then i look at it like my son was here
42:09for a purpose
42:11i think his death and the way he died was what he wanted me to do pick up that mantle
42:17and make change
42:18help with reform so maybe that's my purpose now and he gave it to me
42:25it's senseless gun violence is senseless come on let's let's do better it's time because this is
42:31ridiculous
