00:26We do believe that there may be some
00:28human-to-human transmission that's happening among the really close contacts, the husband
00:32and wife, people who've shared cabins, et cetera.
00:35So again, our assumption is that has happened, and that's why we are operating and working
00:40with the ship to make sure that anyone who is symptomatic, anyone caring for patients
00:44is wearing full personal protective equipment.
00:47The medical personnel who have boarded the boat have brought additional PPE as well.
00:54So that's our working assumption.
00:56But just, again, contextually, hantaviruses don't typically transmit that way.
01:01It's really a rodent infection.
01:04Sequencing is underway by NICD in South Africa.
01:08We're hoping to get those results as soon as possible.
01:12We're hoping this morning, but they're working very hard on it, so perhaps tomorrow.
01:16We are working under the assumption that it's the Andes virus.
01:19So from a precautionary point of view, we feel that this is the best approach to make sure
01:24that we have the right precautions in place.
01:26Right now, the ship is off the coast of Cabo Verde.
01:30The plan is, and our highest priority is to medically evacuate these two individuals to make sure
01:35that they have the care that they receive.
01:37So the plan that is currently in the works, it's underway.
01:41The plan now is for the ship to continue onto the Canary Islands.
01:46We're working with Spanish authorities who will welcome the ship, have said that they will welcome
01:51the ship, to do a full investigation, a full epidemiologic investigation, full disinfection
01:58of the ship, and, of course, to assess the risk of the passengers that are actually on board.
02:02As I said, there are no other symptomatic patients who are on board.
02:06So that is planned.
02:08So once the two sick individuals on board are medically evacuated, then the ship can move.
02:12Based on the current information, and what we know about previous outbreaks, WHO assesses
02:17the overall risk to the public as low.
02:19We will provide any updates as necessary.
