01:05Because scarborough does have the athleticism and the boxing skill to make these fights a lot easier
01:10But like you said in the open man, he's a gladiator. He's a modern-day gladiator
01:13He likes to he likes to be fighting
01:15But I think the jury is out on whether his boxing skills are good enough to get to the world
01:18-class level
01:19That's where we're still he has boxing skill for sure
01:21But is he choosing to fight because
01:24He likes it which I think he does but also is he choosing to fight because maybe his boxing skills
01:28Aren't sufficing in the moment, you know
01:30So that's where the question mark comes in for me

01:37We're trying to find that obviously he's only 13 fights in his pro career, but he's 29 years old

06:34You're holding position you're just giving your guard up then you're not punching back because a lot of times scarborough

13:42But you could still take better control and control Montes better by doing those little subtle things in between jibs

13:52You get the reaction that I want this is not like we were talking about in the beginning of the

13:58Montes is a good fighter

14:29That's the thing it's not always about being out of range and being all over
14:32Sometimes you can smother your opponent change distances in that way

15:36Scarborough tries to take some of that out but that was Maxwell Montes putting an exclamation point here at the

15:48What a back and forth between these two in that fourth round
15:51I mean not really it was actually a very good dominant round for Scarborough until the very end
15:55It was a body shot that put Scarborough in trouble and you saw his body language afterwards
16:00He backed from one corner directly to another corner and then had to fight his way out
16:04He didn't do a great job of hiding up
16:06Yeah of hiding it
16:12Take a look at that ear this past round and there you see the big right hand that landed from
16:17Scarborough up top
16:18And honestly I think Scarborough did the most damage he's done all night in this round
16:21But so did Montes he landed actually missed the body shot the truck but he got hit
16:25But a really clean body shot prior to that and then landed some good shots on the inside to the
16:29head of Scarborough
16:30But Scarborough finished the round on top by landing some big shots in his own corner
16:36Round five underway of the scheduled ten round bout
16:42Scarborough coming out looking very serious
16:46No more smiling
16:47He's got to understand he's got someone in front of him who's dangerous and can hurt him
16:53Look at that power punches landed total after four rounds
16:56Equal 42 to 42 for each man
17:01Tightening up
17:04As Montes has willed himself back into this
17:11That's what Scarborough needs to do is get back on that jab just like that
17:15Try to hold range of position
17:17Maintain this position
17:21But you need a the battery jab in order to control the fight with the jab see
17:26It's probably a nice jab but it's the same kind of jab every time
17:30And I think the issue last round was just the range
17:32You know fighting too much on the inside he was doing a really good job like you said smothering when
17:36he needed to
17:37But still staying at least in mid-range he's got to move around take a walk
17:41Because he can do that Montes is heavy on his feet he's not he's not a fast footwork type of
17:45fighter
17:46You can take a walk around this guy slow the pace
17:48And that's what Scarborough is doing right now
17:50He's out jabbed Montes 25 to 8 so far
17:58Scarborough strikes he's the kind of guy he lands a jab and he goes well if I can land a
18:00jab I can land a right hand
18:01I can land a left hook
18:03It's like immediately I can hit him if I can hit him with that I can hit him with everything
18:06Right now he's doing a good job with the jab
18:08Let's see if he stays with it
18:12Like here don't you don't need to be there my coach used to say change ropes which is making making
18:16a little adjustments
18:17Keep moving keep spinning keep turning your opponent
18:20Sometimes you know what it is the pressure that guy brings makes you mentally start to think oh I need
18:24more than a jab
18:25No sometimes you don't
18:27I don't think I don't think Scarborough does I think he's doing a great job with just the jab
18:30He can win a round with just the jab he can win this fight with just the jab
18:34Gets back to the corner and Montes trying to get some offense off now. This is where Montes is dangerous.

18:59Scarborough having himself a really good round started out with the jab. It's picked up a little bit
19:04Sorry, even last round he was having a good round so he got hurt so he's

19:10And going back to that conditioning
19:12Scarborough always comes in such fantastic shape he can fight at a high clip and keep the pace throughout
19:20Although body shots will take away some of that conditioning
19:25Scarborough upset with the low blow call there. I don't know. We got I like to see if that was
19:29long and I think Scarborough has a point
19:30I'm not sure if that was love
19:32But anyone that's been close Montes has been looking at the ref saying like you said Paulie calling his own
19:37shots there
19:37But a nice combination for Scarborough to end that round
19:41A dominant round for him

21:03Montez is not doing a good job of cutting off the ring. He's just following those opportunities for Scarborough to

21:38Montez needs him to fight. He needs him to stand in front of him. He needs him to trade
21:42He needs him to lock up. He's moving
21:45It's not really anything Montez can answer with
21:49You're gonna tell him to smother here from from Scarborough. Sometimes with a guy like Montez what you do
21:53You force to fight at distance. He doesn't want to fight at and when he gets his close distance. You
21:56smother him force a break
21:59Want this time to complain more and more
22:02Montez has been reffing. I got it was on the fight
22:09Heads came together. I don't see it cut
22:12Little uppercut sneaking through but then one misses there for Montez
22:17Jab to the body there for Scarborough and then a right up top
22:20Goes with the uppercut but Montez gets out of the way like see Scarborough tighten that up just a little
22:24bit a little wide with those shots causing the miss
22:28A little uppercut for Montez. He's trying to get back. He's got that distance now here. This is what the

22:34Right lands up top for Montez. Montez is rough on the inside boy. And I tell you this is where
22:38Scarborough is not smothering out
22:40So he's allowing Montez to work and now exchanging but earlier Scarborough was smothering Montez and had made the adjustment
22:46But now Montez finding the space on the inside another good uppercut right lands up top for Scarborough
22:53A lot of exchanging here. Blood for the nose here Scarborough

22:59Hook on top there for Montez then the body. Yeah
23:04Montez found found gold with that left hook to the liver and now Scarborough holding
23:08So he doesn't hide the feeling of the body shots very well

23:19See what was the lack of the of the adjustment here this round?
23:22No smothering on the inside from Scarborough after he's done it so well last round and Montez has been able
23:26to work at the range
23:27He wants to and it's won him the round
23:30Nice combination here for Montez to close the round Scarborough tries to fire back
23:35But after it looked like he had taken control once again Montez closing around strong
23:46Every time it looks like Scarborough has Montez figured out he's got the majority of these rounds
23:52Had a couple times in this battle where Montez has had very
23:55Impressive flurries to close the deal to try and get himself back in this fight
24:03Again Montez just needs to get Scarborough to stand still in front of him and push him back and it's
24:09a totally different fight
24:17You see the success early with the jab
24:20Montez has not really had an answer for that
24:23Now the jab and the movement has been giving Montez all the trouble in the world but once we're in
24:27this position
24:27And Scarborough will spend too much time exchanging
24:32Elbow and that elbow shoots down to the
24:35You see in the rainbow when he walked back to Rosen and he shot in and grabbed Montez
24:40He locked him at the double overhook
24:44Round seven between these two scheduled for ten
24:49You can see our jabs landed Scarborough lopsided that 50 to 17
24:55Another good overhand right there but Scarborough clips the temple
24:58Of Montez, there's another one
25:02And we talked about Montez's durability and he's shown it
25:06He's taking big shots tonight
25:07And has walked through them
25:09This combination there for Scarborough
25:22Jack lands up top
25:24So says that he jabs to the body
25:28And he stays disciplined with that that the right lands up top of Scarborough
25:32He's backing Montez up
25:45You're right here at this distance.
25:46You see, Pascaro doesn't always have to shoot the jab hard.
25:48He can measure with it.
25:49He can faint with it.
25:50He can do a lot of seal right there.
25:52He maintained distance with it, just measuring with it, and he can snap it out.
25:56If you vary the left hand enough, you'll keep Montez at this distance, and you make the rounds easier for
26:01yourself.
26:02Once you allow Montez to get close, though, and you don't smother him, Montez gets dangerous.
26:08At this range, this is a range fight.
26:10At this range, Montez is completely ineffective.
26:12Can you maintain this range?
26:13Are you a good enough boxer to force him to continue to fight at this range?
26:16That's what I was questioning about Scarborough's boxing ability to begin the fight.
26:24Seems to me like it's more personality than skills.
26:27He's showing us every round.
26:28He just can't keep it up.
26:30Nah, he doesn't vary the jab enough.
26:34As soon as he stops varying the jab, Montez is able to get close.
26:40It always feels like these closing minutes have been dangerous for Montez.
26:47Yeah, it takes Montez two minutes to get into the position.
26:50You see right there, oh, with a clash of heads there.
26:53A little clash of heads there.
26:54These guys have not been pleased with all the sounds of each other.
26:57A lot of talking to the refs.
26:58That's the thing, sometimes Scarborough panics when he gets too close.
27:01You see, he has his rush to him.
27:04And again, it's a little bit maybe of a lack of amateur experience.
27:09We're not.
27:11Scarborough obviously saying, stop crying.
27:12You know, Scarborough's got that fighting mentality.
27:14He's like, yo, whatever happens, happens.
27:15Big right hand when the referee sets him.
27:18Scarborough lands another right up top.
27:21Whipping the hook misses there for Montez.
27:23Then an uppercut for Scarborough.
27:25This is the fighting personality you were talking about, champ.
27:26Now he wants to fight.
27:27Now I'll agree with you.
27:29Here he's choosing to do this.
27:30He's pissed off.
27:35But again, a smart smother.
27:37You punch yourself out a little bit, throwing hard punches.
27:39Montez gets close, intelligent smother there.
27:41That's what I mean.
27:41He's got the skills to do it.
27:43Maybe fighting spirits are the right term.
27:45Maybe discipline to go a whole round is the issue.
27:51After the clash of heads, very strong finish for Scarborough.

28:30A lot of intensity there.
28:33They've been not happy with each other with some of the fouling they're talking about to the refs.
28:37We've had headbutts.
28:38We've had low blows.
28:39We've been complaining of low blows.
28:40Some holding.
28:42I think some of the frustration is warranted by Scarborough, though, because it seems like Montez is telling the ref
28:47things, and the ref is then berating and disciplining Scarborough.
28:52I would be pissed, too.
28:57Strong jab there for Scarborough to start things off.
29:03I think three rounds could be important in the fight here.
29:06I think Scarborough is slightly ahead, but I don't think he's got it locked up at all.
29:09But you can make a decision here to make it easier for yourself.
29:12Montez, as much as he wants to fight, doesn't have the ability to close range that well if you don't
29:17let him.

29:31You know, when he boxed it from the outside, it's a different fight.
29:43Also impressive for Scarborough, again, going back to his conditioning to recover from the body shots that he got hit
29:48with a few rounds ago to be moving like this.

30:08That's what you want to do when Montez finally does get inside.
30:11And if you keep the fight at this distance, will Scarborough do it?

30:23And allowing himself, getting him a little bit into flight now.

30:42You see the difference is so key when Scarborough jabs.

40:48You know, when Scarborough was on the outside moving and not succumbing to the firefight, it was all Scarborough.
40:55But when Montez would get on the inside and pin Scarborough against the ropes, he did a lot of damage.
41:00But for the most part, I thought Scarborough won most of the rounds and actually did some damage going down
41:09the stretch.
41:10I thought it was competitive the first half of the fight, but I thought Scarborough sort of started running away
41:14in the second half.
41:17What's the best lesson you think he takes from this one as he continues to build on his career?
41:22You've got to fight three minutes of every round.
41:24You can't start off great for two minutes and then let the fight go into your opponent's wheelhouse.
41:31I think it's understand who you are and who you're not.
41:33Understand your range.
41:34Understand your ideal range for depending on the opponent you have.
41:38Understand the range that's not ideal for you, you know.
41:41This fight was one of those fights where, had he understood range the whole time, his proper range, he's doing
41:47well.
41:47When he's not at his proper range, he's doing really bad.
41:50So if he would have known the range, the correct range all fight, he could have probably won all ten
41:53rounds.
41:54It's not a bad thing to beat a guy up with a jab and make a miss all night.
