00:00All right, the Rockets' offense, that was the big thing.
00:05And you look at this thing, man, and you're going to go up here
00:10and you score 78 damn points, plenty.
00:12I mean, you're going to lose.
00:1478 points at home, it's just, I mean, they went through
00:17and scored under 20 the first two quarters.
00:20I mean, you go and bang out 18 and 13 in the first and second quarter
00:24respectfully, like the rest of the way the Lakers just coasted through.
00:30But, I mean, that's just inexcusable, almost unbelievable,
00:34especially what we have been watching the last couple of games here
00:39where they controlled game three but lost, controlled game four and five and one,
00:44and then they came into this game and just got beat down.
00:48To you, what happened?
00:49Someone texted, Clint said they just pissed their pants.
00:52That is one way to go.
00:56Yeah, look, I think water finds its level.
01:00I think that's why you have a seven-game series.
01:03I think the thought is that in a seven-game series,
01:07the better team is obviously going to win.
01:11Ultimately, the true identity of both teams are going to surface,
01:18and the better team will win in a seven-game series.
01:21And I think with the Rockets, I think, again, water found its level.
01:27I think you've got some spurts.
01:29Even with Kevin Durant in there, I think you've got some spurts of the ability to score points.
01:33I think when the game is in an ideal situation for you,
01:37then I think this team was able to play defense.
01:41I think the team was able to do some things offensively to score enough points.
01:44Even though it was never great, they did score enough points to win a few games.
01:49I think there were flashes of when it looked like things may be coming together.
01:54But ultimately, over a seven-game span, the organization that has the better coaching is going to win.
02:02The organization that has a superstar on the floor that also has the ability to manage people
02:09and make people around him better and understands that navigating a seven-game series in the playoffs,
02:14that team is ultimately going to win.
02:16And I think that's what happened with the Rockets, Ron.
02:18I think that's what happened with the Rockets.
02:21I'm not even disappointed in the egg they laid in game six.
02:26Because they laid one.
02:27They laid one.
02:27I thought if they lost, especially in this fashion, I thought I would be unbelievably disappointed.
02:33I'm not.
02:33I think this is exactly who they are.
02:35It's a bunch of individuals running around on the floor.
02:38And when the defense, whether it's injuries to the opponent or it's defensive scheme that they're trying to play,
02:44when that defense isn't conducive to them running, they are a mess.
02:51And I think ultimately it bared itself over time in a series.
02:57And here we see it, losing in six to the Lakers.
02:59What did Denny Green do?
03:01They are who we thought they were.
03:03That's right.
03:03They did everything that we've known them to do.
03:06They played decent defense.
03:08I mean, they held the Lakers under 100 points, which you would push the button on in the NBA.
03:14They held the Lakers.
03:16The Lakers shot 40% from the field.
03:19They shot well from three, really, Rui.
03:23But their defense came and played well enough for them to win.
03:27But, Clint, they have issues.
03:29They have issues.
03:30They cannot shoot worth a damn.
03:32And that is 5 of 28.
03:34That's 18% from three, Clint.
03:375 of 28.
03:3818% from three.
03:40And Reed Shepard, in particular, couldn't buy one.
03:43Not enough out there.
03:45So they can't shoot.
03:46And then their coaching staff doesn't make adjustments.
03:51And we talked about it Friday.
03:53We knew it.
03:54We've seen the Lakers.
03:55We've seen J.J. Reddick.
03:56They're going to make an adjustment to what they did.
03:58You said it.
03:58They're not going to just sit there.
04:00They've had plenty of time to watch it.
04:03Watch tape.
04:03They're not going to sit there and do the same thing.
04:05They're going to do something to try to make things uncomfortable.
04:08And the big thing that they did was they stopped double-teaming anybody and include Shingun.
04:15Shingun was somebody that they were sending help to and doubling him.
04:19And that was creating where I think the adjustment the Rockets made was they weren't just spotting
04:25up.
04:25They were cutting.
04:26They were moving off of it.
04:27And there was movement on the offense.
04:29And they were getting good shots from it and better shots from it.
04:34And they were making the first pass to get one shot to get a better shot.
04:37They were doing that.
04:38This game, J.J. was like, no, we know that Shingun will probably have an advantage over
04:46our bigs and Aiton and Hayes.
04:49But we're not going to allow all the other dudes to get going.
04:53And if they do, we're going to make them play one-on-one basketball.
04:56And we're going to bet that we can survive defensively making guys like Reed Shepard, guys like
05:04Amin Thompson, Jabari Smith, Tari Eason be one-on-one players.
05:10And they weren't able to do that.
05:12And they were not able to adjust off of them doing that.
05:16There was no other secondary offense for them to run to that helped them.
05:21They needed their ISO player to be out there and their guy who could just go get a bucket
05:26and he was on the bench hurt.
05:28And that was Kevin Durant.
05:29And there was never an adjustment off of it.
05:31We knew J.J. was going to adjust.
05:33My wonder was, was the coaching staff going to adjust off of it?
05:36And no.
05:36And they didn't to the tune of 78 points in a game.
05:42And, you know, I just, it just reared its ugly head.
05:46Everything that they had, had issues with.
05:49Had the game been close, I'm certain they would have screwed it up at the end to add that other
05:53part.
05:53It's been a problem for them.
05:54But the game was just so out of hand that they didn't even have a chance to screw it up
05:58at the end.
05:59So that is, I mean, that to me in a nutshell is exactly what we saw.
06:03Text line coming through.
06:05Ron, just accept the fact that the Rockets are not as good as you thought they were.
06:09Or they are just soft.
06:11I don't know that they're soft.
06:12They play hard.
06:13But I thought they would be better, specifically with Durant.
06:16I thought they would be better than this Lakers team.
06:19I did.
06:20So I guess you're right.
06:21Text line coming in.
06:23KD quit on us.
06:24I don't know if he quit.
06:24I think he was seriously injured and couldn't go.
06:28I'm surprised he didn't step on and make a, just step on the court and try to see if he
06:33could go.
06:34But I think he was legitimately injured.
06:36But they just, I mean, hey, you take away the first thing they do, Clint, it feels like they need
06:44two or three days to come up with some sort of a game plan.
06:48Well, they just, let's be honest, man.
06:50Again, it's a two-way go specifically to what you're talking about, like adjustments.
06:55And this can be the answer to several things, from just the general what's wrong with the Rockets to all
07:00the way down, drilling down to the inability to adjust.
07:03Whether it's the coach's inability to adjust in the moment or at halftime, or it's the player's inability to adjust
07:09in the moment when they see that the defense is doing something different.
07:13It's just, there is a, I mean, I hate to keep using that phrase, Ron, because it's so disrespectful.
07:19But it's, from a basketball term, I mean, the basketball IQ in Houston at the Toyota Center is unbelievably low.
07:27Now, a lot of people say, oh, it's by choice.
07:29You know, you just roll the ball out there and you just play one-on-one basketball.
07:31Okay, well, it's still low.
07:32I mean, it's, the inability to adjust is wild.
07:36And I think the biggest thing for me in terms of takeaways, the way the season ended, is we talked
07:44last week, last year, I'm sorry, about guys that were untouchable for the Rockets from a trade perspective.
07:52And I can't speak for everybody because I'm sure everybody had different opinions of who was and who wasn't.
07:56But I know right now there ain't a damn soul in a Rockets uniform that should be untouchable this offseason
08:01when it comes to making moves to get this team better.
