00:00:00Oh, look at that!
00:00:01Oh, look at that!
00:00:03Absolutely phenomenal!
00:00:05Rooney O'Hall!
00:00:07Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:00:49Hello, three games on tonight's Match of the Day.
00:00:52Big matches in the race for Europe and a huge one at the bottom of the table.
00:00:56You can also vote for April's Goal of the Month.
00:00:58And big games means the big hitters are in.
00:01:01Good evening, Micah Richards and Alan Shearer.
00:01:04And good evening to the rest of our regular pundits.
00:01:06West Ham's defeat against Brentford yesterday meant that a win would lift Spurs out of the bottom three.
00:01:12They faced Aston Villa this evening.
00:01:13And your commentator is Mark Scott.
00:01:17While West Ham's loss would have given Spurs a lift,
00:01:21Roberto Deserbi's been trying to rev his men up too,
00:01:24telling them they have to silence the negative voices inside of them.
00:01:29Tottenham haven't had any positives against Villa this season,
00:01:32losing in both league and cup to them already.
00:01:34But it is a much-changed side they face tonight with Martinez, Cash, Tielemans and Rodgers,
00:01:40the only ones who also started the Europa League loss at Forest on Thursday.
00:01:45Spurs' long-awaited and much-needed league win last weekend came at a cost with Simmons and Solanke.
00:01:52The latest names added to the injury list.
00:01:55Tell and Richarlison replaced them with Udoggi and Paulinia in for the bench, Spence and Gersouma.
00:02:04Important for Villa, vital for Spurs.
00:02:08Can they take advantage of West Ham's wobble yesterday and climb above the Hammers into safety?
00:02:17Barclay didn't get there, Benteke onto it, Richarlison early chance which he snatched at.
00:02:23Richarlison on the swivel, saw his strike actually taken off his toes by the backtracking Uri Tielemans.
00:02:32One down four to go for Roberto Deserbi,
00:02:34reckon Spurs can win all of their final matches,
00:02:37which is pretty punchy given they've only managed eight wins all season.
00:02:43Petro Poro, Elisin Colomorani,
00:02:46brings it across, Martinez had come out as well.
00:02:50Wings off safety first.
00:02:54No John McGinn in the Villa squad today.
00:02:56Unai Emery says that he's not 100% so they decided not to risk him
00:03:01with the second leg of that Europa League semi coming up against Forest here on Thursday.
00:03:07It's going to be a long delivery from Danso here.
00:03:11Anton Kerr couldn't get to it, Gallagher will.
00:03:15He might have a pop here!
00:03:16Oh! Connor Gallagher!
00:03:18His first goal for Tottenham!
00:03:21And it could be seismic for Spurs!
00:03:26What a way and what a time to get your first goal for the club!
00:03:31Oh, they believe now that the escape is on!
00:03:35Tottenham in front early, thanks to Connor Gallagher!
00:03:40Looked like the danger had been dealt with from the initial throw,
00:03:44but Connor Gallagher had other ideas.
00:03:47One touch to bring it down, the next to hook it beyond Martinez and in.
00:03:52And Spurs find themselves in front and on course to escape the relegation zone.
00:03:58Villa nil, Spurs one.
00:04:02Tottenham decent value for their lead.
00:04:07Here's Kolomouane, three to aim for in the area.
00:04:11Kolomouane nearly finds Richarlison.
00:04:14Paulinho urges to have a hit, obliges, and hits the post!
00:04:20Flags up now.
00:04:22A cloche for Aston Villa there.
00:04:26As João Paulinho, the hero in the Midlands last weekend,
00:04:30nearly gave Spurs daylight at Villa.
00:04:34Well, Unai Emery wants energy from the fans.
00:04:37They think they're doing their best to try and get the Villa team going.
00:04:42Gallagher.
00:04:45Tell.
00:04:46Dangerous for Richarlison, up there!
00:04:48And Martinez makes the save from Kolomouane.
00:04:52Another chance for Tottenham to go two up.
00:04:55And again Martinez is able to save the day for Villa.
00:04:59No one picking up Randall Kolomouane.
00:05:01And patted over the top by Martinez.
00:05:11Score all the way across.
00:05:13And Danso!
00:05:14That was travelling.
00:05:16The doggy.
00:05:19Villa look ragged right now.
00:05:21Spurs sets blood, and it's two!
00:05:23It's Richarlison!
00:05:25Tottenham Hotspur in Dreamland!
00:05:28Who would have seen this coming?
00:05:31Spurs 2-0 up inside of 25 minutes!
00:05:39They can barely believe it.
00:05:41And the Tottenham fans are probably struggling to take it in two.
00:05:46Just look at the amount of time and space that Spurs had on the ball here.
00:05:50And boy, did they make it pay!
00:05:53Richarlison not picked up properly.
00:05:56And as soon as he got on the end of that gorgeous ball in from Mathies Tell,
00:06:00there was only going to be one end result.
00:06:04Villa 0, Spurs 2.
00:06:06This is no smash and grab.
00:06:08Tottenham fully deserving of their two-goal lead.
00:06:13Aston Villa look like the side in the relegation zone right now.
00:06:17I've not seen many Aston Villa games this season,
00:06:20but I would wager a fair amount that this is probably one of the worst halves
00:06:24that they have had this season.
00:06:25He might agree with me.
00:06:27He certainly does.
00:06:31Villa's recent league form has been a bit patchy,
00:06:33but they do still have one of the best home records this season.
00:06:3635 points from 17 games,
00:06:39so this is very out of character for them.
00:06:44Gallagher, side down by Barkley,
00:06:47who will become the first pillar player in the book.
00:06:51Spurs on their way out of the drop zone
00:06:53and on course for back-to-back league wins
00:06:56for the first time since the first week of the season.
00:07:02Rodgers passes on here for Abraham.
00:07:05Tammy Abraham,
00:07:06while the speed and execution of the tackle from Van de Ven
00:07:11gets Spurs out of jail.
00:07:13Could have been the first serious sight of Kinski's goal for Villa,
00:07:16but Van de Ven judged it perfectly.
00:07:22He'd have been furious with the first half.
00:07:24He'll be equally disappointed with the second, I think,
00:07:27because there's been no sign of any kind of response.
00:07:30Almost as if they're resigned to their fate this evening.
00:07:36Telemans.
00:07:38Binks.
00:07:44Bailey.
00:07:53Corner kick.
00:08:02with 90 seconds of the 90 minutes to play.
00:08:09And headed over the top,
00:08:10and that's as good as it's got for Villa this evening.
00:08:14Tyrone Mings was up.
00:08:15I think it might have just come off his shoulder.
00:08:18This is the best that Aston Villa have conjured up in front of goal all night.
00:08:23It wasn't exactly great, was it?
00:08:25I haven't had many enjoyable experiences this season,
00:08:29but those Spurs fans are drinking in every minute of this.
00:08:33look at efficient...
00:08:39on coming back...
00:08:45it might pull up.
00:08:46Tillemans.
00:08:48Lindelof.
00:08:49now Bailey.
00:08:55but there is barely enough time for the game to be restarted
00:09:04it's their first effort on target and it's ended up in the back of the spurs net
00:09:10beautiful ball in from matty cash and guided in ever so well by emmy buendia little chance
00:09:16the kinski with that but little chance of it meaning anything in terms of the result tonight
00:09:27spurs storm out of the relegation zone they have been brilliant tonight and suddenly look like a
00:09:34team brimming with belief and their cruise against an abject aston villa tonight spells trouble for
00:09:42another side in claret and blue as west ham now dropped below the dotted line aston villa one
00:09:50tottenham hotspur two what did you get so right today that meant that you dominated the game as
00:09:57you did by the high pressure for sure and the ball possession for me is not a surprise
00:10:02it's not my credit because i'm lucky to work with a lot of very important players some people will
00:10:09say you made seven changes and did that have an impact on how you played what's your take on that
00:10:17last week we lost against fulan and which player played against fulan and which player played against
00:10:25nothing and and we lost two two matches and we lost as well with another players okay we can lose
00:10:31loss
00:10:32and we can win with every players pressure becomes important at this stage of the season you're now
00:10:37out of the relegation zone west ham in it we have to feel the same pressure
00:10:43football is uh different can change in week by week we can't forget what we we felt before the
00:10:52wolverhampton game and before the palina goal in wolverhampton we were uh died and and so we have to
00:11:00push again and i can't permit anyone to think in different way than me i actually pretty much
00:11:07forgot i scored towards the end of the game because i was so focused on just us getting the win
00:11:13that i
00:11:14forgot about my goal early on but yeah looking back now on on um in the change room it was
00:11:19a nice goal
00:11:19um i took it well and hopefully there's a few more to come you can look back at it on
00:11:24match of the day
00:11:24tonight as well if i can talk you into watching it yeah i will do don't worry about that
00:11:29sure he was very convinced about that which is unflattering to say the least exactly so don't be
00:11:35nervous but he is watching so look it was it was good as spurs as well as spurs have played
00:11:40in a
00:11:41in a long time and it was right from the off that they set their intentions up micah yeah they
00:11:45pressed
00:11:46high from the front from the start of the game i thought there was exceptional in terms of how they
00:11:50set
00:11:51up and i just want to look at because spurs have been playing a bit lower but against villa today
00:11:58they were brave and rich allison really did his work for his team but the good thing is about this
00:12:05when you press high like this obviously you've got to block the lines exactly what i did and then
00:12:09they're going man to man but the key part is barkley in the center of the pitch your defender has
00:12:15to be
00:12:15brave and jump and that's exactly what danzo did and then rich allison gets an opportunity which he
00:12:21should have passed again colomani conor gallagher bentham kirk rich allison blocking the middle of
00:12:27the pitch because you know villa liked occupy that in the middle of the pitch and they didn't allow
00:12:34them to play in that middle and then get the ball wide and that's because there was aggressive
00:12:39on the press and they was brave in doing that and the defenders have to buy into it rich allison
00:12:45i mentioned again colomani really good in occupying the defenders force it in one way and then everyone
00:12:53can jump on this time it's van der ben on barkley and it made it so difficult for villa to
00:12:59play and
00:12:59didn't know what what to do and then when i got the ball there was composed on the ball but
00:13:04this was
00:13:05was the best clip for me although nothing came for it in terms of what they did here and scoring
00:13:10but what it did do it forced a throwing and from the result in throwing danzo with his long throw
00:13:17and this is conor gallagher we've talked about he talked about his finish look at that for a touch
00:13:22and look at that for a finish absolutely brilliant and that was all in the first 12 minutes they started
00:13:29bright there was confident they had a game plan they stuck to the tactics and i just thought they
00:13:35was outstanding today i really did so they started with that intensity and their intent was obvious
00:13:40as well in the number of second balls they won alan they won every single tackle they won every single
00:13:45second ball and what they also did is is um they took the risk out of their game in terms
00:13:51of not
00:13:51playing from the back in unnecessary circumstances and they did that and when i said they won every
00:13:57second ball that's what i mean they might not have won that first header but what they did really
00:14:01well is is engage and make sure they won the tackle after that and then look at that look at
00:14:06that
00:14:06commitment that is what you need when you're in desperate trouble you need every single player at
00:14:12it and spurs were today that's what i mean about taking the villa press out so they go long and
00:14:18then
00:14:18they commit men forward and that's what they did and now they outnumber aston villa in forward positions
00:14:23because of that long ball because villa wanted to press them and at times they couldn't because they
00:14:28they missed the press out really unlucky but they get into that position because the same thing again
00:14:34he's got options options kinski can pass it left or right but the same thing again ball in behind
00:14:39they don't win the first one but look where the ball falls to because they're that brave and they're
00:14:44committing that many men forward into forward positions then getting the ball into the box when
00:14:50they do win it and they've also got three in the box as well they create another opportunity
00:14:54but for a good save from from martinez second half same thing look miss the press out again they go
00:14:59along they don't win the first header but they win that second ball that was a constant right
00:15:05throughout the game and that gave them the platform to go and play and to create chances and again look
00:15:11how many men they've got in in forward positions they were brave they were aggressive and they were
00:15:16absolutely outstanding and deserve to win that game but the difference is sorry on on that is when you go
00:15:22forward like that if there's any any ball that you wouldn't high up the pitch when when spurs are
00:15:29winning the ball a little bit further back they couldn't really get out so if you look at the
00:15:33clips that alan showed there even if they lose it they can get the second if not the second and
00:15:37get
00:15:37the third and that's because the defense of midfield and the forwards were all being brave with their
00:15:42press and they were helped in their performance by the fact that villa looked like they were lacking
00:15:47energy and they looked like a team that had made seven changes which is what unai emery did they
00:15:52also looked like a team who have a europa league semi-final that they're one nil down in to come
00:15:57on
00:15:57thursday and they look like a team who are fairly comfortably in fifth place and a champions league
00:16:03qualification spot yeah although some people might criticize i think the villa funds there was was a few
00:16:09boos at half time in terms of the effort the players that he put out today were more than capable
00:16:14of
00:16:15performing better than they did today but if you look at the bigger picture in terms of the champions
00:16:19league position and then the semi-final europa league they're doing a great job you're going to
00:16:24get those sort of performances sometimes and it was just one of those today they're in the semi-final
00:16:28they've got it all to do in the return leg they're in fifth as you said they've got six points
00:16:32gap
00:16:34if unai emery gets that team into the champions league for next season they've got two chances of
00:16:39doing that in the league and by winning the europa he's entitled to change that team around and do
00:16:43whatever he wants to do he's not worried about whatever the opposition or whoever thinks that's
00:16:48sport and integrity or whatever it is it's his team he can do what he wants he's earned the right
00:16:52to do
00:16:52that what about the relegation battle what does this do to that because we thought it might be a
00:16:57straight shootout between tottenham and west ham the thing is now tottenham are only two points
00:17:03behind nottingham forest they play chelsea tomorrow at chelsea so who knows what the gap could be come
00:17:09the end of the day and now maybe three teams in the running to get relegated at the end of
00:17:15the season
00:17:15it's been a terrible weekend for west ham hasn't it with the uh the result for them yesterday and the
00:17:20result that went against them to do with uh with spurs so they have got it all to do and
00:17:25looking at their
00:17:26fixtures as well i think that game against leeds united possibly their best chance of getting three
00:17:31points okay you can't predict every time we make a prediction we get it wrong don't we but from those
00:17:37fixtures i think west ham i've got it all to do i think spurs now have got that little bit
00:17:41of momentum
00:17:42even though the players they found a different way to be playing mainly spurs fought with the technical
00:17:48players they could go a different way but with the intensity they showed today they come that's their
00:17:55they've they've set the line there they cannot fall below that line now in terms of energy
00:18:00and if they keep that level up could be safe they could keep that up yeah but i think deserve
00:18:06it
00:18:06needs a lot of credit for the way he set his team it's it's one of those situations where you're
00:18:12in a
00:18:12relegation battle and you've got players who hide none of those players hide hid out there tonight and i
00:18:18think the fact that he's giving them the confidence i think that is the difference is there an element of
00:18:23frustration around spurs though that they haven't done this so far this season i know they've had
00:18:27some of those players missing at different points but that they are capable of this well it's actually
00:18:33it's actually trying to draw it out of them and and at the minute he's the win last week a
00:18:37win again
00:18:38today so it looks as if the players are responding to what he's doing in training and what he's giving
00:18:42them the feedback might yet be a good end to the season for tottenham now it's time for april's goal
00:18:47of the
00:18:47month here are the contenders
00:18:53the
00:18:55the
00:18:59the
00:19:00the
00:19:01the
00:19:01It's just my love and I'm feeling this regret
00:19:06Thank you, Mawa.
00:19:10Oh, what brilliant.
00:19:12That is fabulous.
00:19:15From the 17-year-old.
00:19:17What composure.
00:19:30Brooks has come through to Scott.
00:19:31Big chance to win it.
00:19:33What a lovely goal by Bournemouth.
00:19:36They've been the better side and it was a lovely move.
00:19:48Oh, what a finish that is.
00:19:53It's Karu Mitoma with a fantastic goal.
00:19:58A blistering volley.
00:20:09Solanke wants it.
00:20:11Simons darts inside and scores.
00:20:15What a magnificent goal by Xavi Simons for Tandem Hotspur.
00:20:21That may very well be their most important goal of this season so far.
00:20:30Heine.
00:20:32First touch for the substitute Yates.
00:20:34Fierce cross.
00:20:35Gibbs-White's headed.
00:20:44Nottingham Forest hat-trick.
00:20:52Cherky.
00:20:53There was a gap to go for and he's gone through.
00:21:02A super goal.
00:21:05From a sublime footballer.
00:21:14Something different from Arsenal.
00:21:17Hubbard's.
00:21:18There's a brilliant.
00:21:22What a strike that is.
00:21:25An awful lot to do.
00:21:27But that's how to do it.

00:22:07Three points separated Manchester United and Liverpool ahead of their game at Old Trafford.
00:22:12Both teams look likely to be playing Champions League football next season.
00:22:21The 218th meeting of these two northern powerhouses and familiarity has generally bred contempt.
00:22:30Football, music and a canal.
00:22:32It's all fed into more than a century's worth of antagonism.
00:22:35And maybe, though, say it quietly, a bit of begrudging mutual respect.
00:22:41United make one change from the side which beat Brentford here on Monday.
00:22:46Matches Cunha in for Amadiallo.
00:22:48Bruno Fernandes needs one more assist to equal the Premier League record of 20.
00:22:53A seriously depleted Liverpool are missing Alexander Isak with what Arna Slott says is a small injury to add to
00:23:02those suffered by Salah and Eketike.
00:23:04Freddie Woodman continues in goal.
00:23:07Gravenberg and Trimpong come in.
00:23:11Manchester United looking to do a league double over maybe their greatest rivals for the first time in a decade.
00:23:22It's a corner.
00:23:24He's got himself in some good positions early on in this game.
00:23:28Benny Mincescu got in front of Ibrahima Kanate there.
00:23:34Bruno's corner.
00:23:36Robertson at the near post, driven in by Matthias Cunha.
00:23:40And in!
00:23:41Matthias Cunha scores for Manchester United inside six minutes.
00:23:49And Old Trafford erupts!
00:23:52Wasn't the best corner in all honesty.
00:23:55Robertson's clearing header.
00:23:57It bounced back to Cunha off Ryan Gravenberg.
00:24:01Liverpool are pointing for offside here.
00:24:05I'm not sure that Woodman's view is seriously impeded by any of the United players.
00:24:13It's flicked off the backside of Alexis McAllister.
00:24:18And Manchester United have the lead.
00:24:27McAllister's forward ball picked off by Kobe Maynou.
00:24:31Here's Brian and Boomer for Manchester United.
00:24:34Good run from Bruno Fernandes.
00:24:36Looking for Seshko.
00:24:38Finding him!
00:24:39Woodman with the save.
00:24:41United are appealing that there was a foul on Benny Mincescu.
00:24:44Seshko, Cunha, Shaw.
00:24:49And in from Seshko this time!
00:24:522-0 Manchester United!
00:24:54And we haven't played 15 minutes!
00:24:58Liverpool in big trouble here!
00:25:02And Bruno Fernandes' header.
00:25:04Pushed onto Seshko by Woodman.
00:25:07And it deflects into the Liverpool net.
00:25:10And it's Manchester United 2.
00:25:12It's Liverpool 0.
00:25:15They are looking at a possible handball.
00:25:20He just glanced off his left hand there.
00:25:24He had just been a flick
00:25:26off Seshko's left hand.
00:25:30Well, Darren England is getting instructions
00:25:33from Stuart Atwell.
00:25:34And he's telling the two captains
00:25:37what he's being told.
00:25:39And it's a goal.
00:25:45Well, no conclusive proof
00:25:47that it hit his fingertip
00:25:50was the VAR decision.
00:25:54Halfway through the first half
00:25:56it's been fast and furious
00:25:58and full of fun for Manchester United.
00:26:04And Gappo!
00:26:05Well hit!
00:26:07Well, he struck it really well.
00:26:10That bent.
00:26:11It bent a lot
00:26:12but not quite enough.
00:26:16Feels like a long way back already.
00:26:26Good vision, Casemiro.
00:26:29Dalo for Manchester United.
00:26:30Four up here.
00:26:31Brian and Bermot.
00:26:33Oh!
00:26:34And Bruno Fernandes just wide.
00:26:37This is a let-off for Liverpool.
00:26:40And Bruno Fernandes
00:26:41is really annoyed with himself.
00:26:43Just wide.
00:26:44Off the shin of Bruno Fernandes.
00:26:48He'll be delighted.
00:26:50They've played with a real energy
00:26:51and momentum today.
00:26:55So Manchester United
00:26:57are making a change at half-time
00:26:58and Amad Diallo
00:26:59is coming on for Benjamin Szczesko
00:27:02which you would imagine
00:27:03has to be an injury.
00:27:09Meynou.
00:27:12Meynou.
00:27:13Picked off
00:27:14Amad Diallo's pass
00:27:16by Dominic Soboslai.
00:27:18Gappo to his left.
00:27:20Frimpong to his right.
00:27:21Soboslai goes alone
00:27:22and puts it in the net.
00:27:24Manchester United 2.
00:27:26Liverpool 1.
00:27:29Amad Diallo
00:27:30gave the ball
00:27:31to Dominic Soboslai
00:27:33and he ran
00:27:35half the length of the field
00:27:36before planting it
00:27:37into the back
00:27:38of the Manchester United goal.
00:27:40More than half
00:27:41the length of the field
00:27:42really.
00:27:44It's a really good finish
00:27:46that.
00:27:46He's just passed it
00:27:47into the corner.
00:27:492-1.
00:27:502-1.
00:27:562-1.
00:27:57Now
00:27:59Florian Wirtz
00:28:00coming into a good position
00:28:01finding Soboslai
00:28:03back into Wirtz.
00:28:06Senna Lahmans
00:28:07let it go
00:28:07confident
00:28:08that it wasn't
00:28:09on target
00:28:09but a tidy progression
00:28:11up the pitch
00:28:12from Liverpool
00:28:12nonetheless.
00:28:14Florian Wirtz
00:28:15is very often
00:28:16about placement
00:28:17rather than power.
00:28:19He just
00:28:19curled away.
00:28:23Oh!
00:28:24What a mistake
00:28:25by Lahmans
00:28:26and Cody
00:28:27Gakpo scores
00:28:27for Liverpool.
00:28:30It's 2-2.
00:28:33Well,
00:28:34the lead
00:28:34never quite
00:28:35looked unassailable
00:28:36but it looked
00:28:37extremely comfortable
00:28:38at half-time.
00:28:40It's lasted
00:28:41barely more than
00:28:42ten minutes
00:28:42in the second half
00:28:43and Manchester United
00:28:46have gifted
00:28:47Liverpool
00:28:47two goals
00:28:48really.
00:28:50No hiding place
00:28:51for a goalkeeper.
00:28:52Not when you do this.
00:28:55Senna Lahmans
00:28:56straight to
00:28:57Alexis McAllister
00:28:59and Gakpo
00:29:00will never score
00:29:01an easier goal.
00:29:03It's all square.
00:29:07Manchester United
00:29:09have won
00:29:10only one of their last
00:29:11seven Premier League games
00:29:13against Liverpool
00:29:14at Old Trafford.
00:29:18Bayern Gravenberg.
00:29:22It is a free kick.
00:29:24The night
00:29:24is Kunya
00:29:26is horrified
00:29:27by that decision.
00:29:29Well,
00:29:30he's got a point
00:29:30at Kunya.
00:29:31He pulled out
00:29:31of the challenge.
00:29:34Sobosly.
00:29:35Oh!
00:29:35Headed back
00:29:36across goal!
00:29:37Oh!
00:29:38That could easily
00:29:39have fallen
00:29:39more kindly
00:29:40for Liverpool. Well this was very uncomfortable for United.
00:29:47It's having to kind of hack it off the line.
00:29:59It's a foul by Van Dijk.
00:30:03A knee in the rump, Bruno Fernandes.
00:30:09Bruno Fernandes with the delivery, Casemiro straight at Woodman.
00:30:14How did he have so much space?
00:30:18Not a Liverpool defender anywhere near him really.
00:30:25Dorgou, Mainou.
00:30:33Well matches couldn't you, good ball that. Luke Shaw here for United.
00:30:37Luke Shaw's cross toward Amadiallo and McAllister kept it away from Casemiro.
00:30:42But Mainou scores!
00:30:46Great finish by Kobi Mainou.
00:30:50Manchester United 3, Liverpool 2.
00:30:54In the week he signed a new long-term deal with Manchester United.
00:30:58Kobi Mainou steers them back in front.
00:31:05Great ball into Luke Shaw, really was.
00:31:11The callisters little flick didn't really do enough.
00:31:15And Mainou gets such a good precise contact on this.
00:31:22Perfectly placed.
00:31:24Manchester United lead.
00:31:28Here's Curtis Jones.
00:31:30And he's found Alexis McAllister who feeds Kierkez.
00:31:35Who moves it quickly into Ngomoa.
00:31:39Gatpo in the middle, Wertz in the middle.
00:31:40Ngomoa loves to step over, hits the shot wide in the post.
00:31:44And Sobos lay on the edge of the penalty area.
00:31:48Wanted a pass.
00:31:50Couple of step overs, step inside.
00:31:53But wide from Ngomoa.
00:31:58And Manchester United will be playing Champions League football next season.
00:32:03That mission has been accomplished.
00:32:06And they've beaten Liverpool in the process.
00:32:10Manchester United 3, Liverpool 2.
00:32:14Mistakes are part of football and I think it shows the group and the character to come back from that
00:32:19and bounce back.
00:32:19And if anything, to win with a late winner gives you a great feeling.
00:32:23And to see the stadium light up like it did is very special.
00:32:27I think we controlled the game, maybe the whole game, but mainly the second half.
00:32:32And in the first half when we controlled it, we were not a threat at all offensively.
00:32:37But in the second half we combined controlling the game also with being a threat.
00:32:40But one moment of switching off is usually for us conceding a goal.
00:32:47Champions League, of course it's important.
00:32:49Let's not over-celebrate it because we want more than that.
00:32:51But nevertheless, to do it with so many games to spare from the position that we're in,
00:32:56I think there's a lot of people and a lot of players who need a lot of credit for that.
00:33:00It's never an easy game against them.
00:33:01There's always lots of ups and downs and just glad to come out with a win.
00:33:05It's nice to be back among the goals.
00:33:06I haven't scored in a while and an amazing fixture to do it in.
00:33:09I think Kobe's taken another step forward in the last couple of weeks especially.
00:33:13I think his performance and his level of performance has been top.
00:33:17There's still a bit to come from him, but at the moment with the level that he's playing at,
00:33:21he can be really pleased with himself.
00:33:23Now, before we talk about the game, there was news this afternoon that Sir Alex Ferguson was taken to hospital
00:33:28after falling unwell shortly before the game at Old Trafford.
00:33:31We have been told it was a precautionary move and not an emergency situation.
00:33:36And, of course, everyone here at Match of the Day sends our very best wishes.
00:33:40And he would have enjoyed Manchester United's first league double over Liverpool in a decade.
00:33:46They've qualified for Champions League football next season, which, as Michael Carrick says,
00:33:50is not something they want to over-celebrate, but is crucial to the club moving forward financially as much as
00:33:56anything else.
00:33:56And also, it was Kobi Mainu who did it.
00:34:00And what a journey he's been on, Micah.
00:34:02He's been, as a player, he's been outstanding.
00:34:07But today I thought he was exceptional.
00:34:10Not just because of the stuff that I'm going to talk about here, the defensive.
00:34:16It's football intelligence, game intelligence, football IQ, all those things.
00:34:22Understanding the positions you need to be in when you're in this position here.
00:34:28Obviously helped by Casemiro.
00:34:30And Kobi Mainu has always been a player that we've liked and we've talked about for so long.
00:34:36But we didn't know what, was he eight? Was he a six? Was he a ten?
00:34:40I think he's found his position now and he feels at home.
00:34:44And when I talk about the football intelligence, this is what I'm talking about.
00:34:47He keeps his game very safe when he needs to and then arrives late when he needs to.
00:34:54Also, he sees a space in front of him and then taking the risk and then, can you finish?
00:34:59And the finish was brilliant.
00:35:01And I've been in that situation when you're a young boy and everyone's talking about you.
00:35:07And it's very difficult to keep that level of consistency.
00:35:11But his consistency, we've just got some stats here to show you how good he was in that game.
00:35:16In terms of his passes, possession won, distance covered.
00:35:19But the goal he scored and it was a big goal against Liverpool.
00:35:23But just the psychological sort of place that he's in.
00:35:26When everyone's telling you how good you are at 21 or 20 before,
00:35:30he's played for England and he's played in big games and you're left out by the manager.
00:35:34How do you deal with that? And he's dealt with it spot on.
00:35:38His attitude has been brilliant.
00:35:39He could have lost his confidence, but he didn't lose his confidence.
00:35:41And he puts in a performance like that.
00:35:44So it wasn't more about analysing his game and what he did.
00:35:47It was more about how he was taking on information and could he perform in his head.
00:35:52Because he's had a manager who didn't fancy him.
00:35:55And Carrick has put his arm round him.
00:35:57And these are the performances that you're getting from him week in, week out.
00:36:00And I just love to see him.
00:36:02And tied him into that long-term contract at Manchester United as well.
00:36:05I could do with one of those.
00:36:05Now while Bobby Maynard had the decisive moment in the game.
00:36:11There was one moment of controversy with Benjamin Szczesko's goal.
00:36:14And when Arna Slott was asked about it in his post-match press conference, he was animated.
00:36:20I don't think it's a surprise to anyone this season that if there is a VR intervention
00:36:25or if there is something that you could look at or could be left, could be right,
00:36:30that then that decision goes against us.
00:36:32That has been the whole season, every single time the same.
00:36:35This is a complete pattern over the whole season.
00:36:38But there's also a pattern that we concede ridiculous goals when we are the better team.
00:36:42There's one or two switching off and then we concede a goal.
00:36:46And that is more, that we have more influence on.
00:36:48So I should focus much more on that than on these referees' decisions that go against us.
00:36:52But it's clear that the whole season is the same.
00:36:56And we will have a look at the way that Liverpool played in this game in just a moment.
00:37:00But we just want to clear up the Szczesko goal.
00:37:02And was it handball, was it not handball?
00:37:04What did you think, Alan?
00:37:06Well, I thought it was handball, yeah.
00:37:08And I think, I mean, I don't want to see these goals disallowed, right?
00:37:11I mean, I think that the handball law is a complete nonsense anyway.
00:37:14And this law is as well.
00:37:17But in terms of consistency and applying the law correctly,
00:37:21I think me and Micah agreed straight away that we both said that's hit his hand.
00:37:25You can see the motion of the ball move.
00:37:27Correct.
00:37:27Because it hits his left hand there.
00:37:29It's only a slight touch.
00:37:30I get that.
00:37:31And as I said, I don't want to see them disallowed.
00:37:33But when they're applying the law, and that's what they say,
00:37:35if it hits any part of your hand, any of the goalscorer, it should be disallowed.
00:37:39And that should have been disallowed.
00:37:40They say that that was inconclusive, the footage.
00:37:43But it's there for us, for all.
00:37:45See?
00:37:47The motion of the ball changed, didn't it?
00:37:50And that's what you need to look at.
00:37:52Like Alan said, we don't want to see goals given away for this
00:37:55when we're talking about fingernails or whatever.
00:37:56But the law is, if it comes off your hand, which it clearly did, in our view,
00:38:03the goals shouldn't have been given.
00:38:04It's as simple as that.
00:38:06Bro, isn't it?
00:38:06I mean, we're at this stage, and this is where we're at now.
00:38:10This is where they've got us.
00:38:12We're actually debating whether it's flicked onto his finger unintentionally.
00:38:16Oh, we'd have talked about this before as well.
00:38:19That's the state the game is in now.
00:38:21The laws are in now.
00:38:22It's ridiculous, isn't it?
00:38:23But look, in terms of the way that Liverpool played,
00:38:27Arnest Slott said, very honestly,
00:38:30that decision is not what cost Liverpool the game.
00:38:32The bits that they can control, they didn't get right,
00:38:35particularly in the first half, Alan.
00:38:36Yeah, well, their defending, I thought, was all over the place again.
00:38:39And for large parts of this season,
00:38:41that's why they're in the position they are
00:38:44and having the season they are.
00:38:45I mean, I think that's quite a simple header from Andy Robertson.
00:38:49Should be doing a lot better.
00:38:50That's the goal they concede.
00:38:53But they're actually all over the place,
00:38:54even when they gave the ball away here.
00:38:57Van Dijk gets caught in no man's land.
00:38:58He's not sure we're into going tight.
00:39:00And all of a sudden, he doesn't want to run in behind
00:39:02and stay with Fernandes.
00:39:04Let's him run there.
00:39:05And again, that's a very, very good ball in,
00:39:09but they have so much space.
00:39:12Then Canadi has a look behind him.
00:39:14Then Robertson has a look behind himself
00:39:16and he can see Bruno Fernandes.
00:39:18And eventually, when the ball goes in...
00:39:19Now, Bruno Fernandes is a fantastic player,
00:39:22but I don't think he should be winning that ball
00:39:23at the far post against Andy Robertson,
00:39:26against the quality of the defender that he is.
00:39:29Again, look at the space he's got to run into there.
00:39:33The ball eventually comes out on the right-hand side,
00:39:36but Fernandes in the middle should do better.
00:39:39He's got incredible amounts of space.
00:39:43And also the concern is here, couldn't you?
00:39:45How on earth can he have so much time
00:39:47to take a touch and turn, take another touch,
00:39:50and then, I mean, Canadi just gets it so wrong.
00:39:54I mean, goodness me.
00:39:56That just sort of summed Liverpool up
00:39:58and the season that they're having.
00:40:00And Van Dijk decides to go in and close down on his own.
00:40:03Nowhere near him.
00:40:05No one near him at all.
00:40:06But have a look at the back line here.
00:40:08When the ball eventually comes in,
00:40:09how far Kirk has his behind?
00:40:11I mean, look at that line there.
00:40:14Yeah, it really is remarkable.
00:40:16I mean, to be fair to him, he does get across
00:40:18and he does get the ball eventually.
00:40:20But again, it's comical defending.
00:40:24Kirkes comes on for Robertson.
00:40:26He again has a look at Ahmed.
00:40:27He can see him.
00:40:28Smallest man on the pitch.
00:40:30Chips it in.
00:40:31And he heads it this time at the far post.
00:40:33Then McAllister gets his clearance all wrong.
00:40:35It's a very, very clever finish.
00:40:37But Liverpool defensively, goodness me.
00:40:40I mean, so many errors and they've been punished for it all season
00:40:44as they were today.
00:40:45What about Manchester United in their immediate future?
00:40:48Is Michael Carrick the man to take them forward?
00:40:50We've asked this question so many times since he took over.
00:40:54What we can see and what the facts behind this are
00:40:57that if the table started when Michael Carrick took over,
00:41:00Manchester United would be top and clear top five points ahead of Arsenal.
00:41:06They've qualified for Champions League football.
00:41:08They've signed Kobaymenu up to a long-term deal
00:41:11and presumably increased any value that they would get
00:41:13if they were to sell him on.
00:41:15I know there's an emotional pull,
00:41:17but is there a sensible business decision to be made here as well?
00:41:20Well, it brought him to do a specific job.
00:41:21He's done that job very, very well.
00:41:24And in those games he showed, he's won in big games as well.
00:41:26He's beaten City, beaten Arsenal, beaten Liverpool.
00:41:29So for me, yes, he at least deserves the chance to go again.
00:41:33I don't know, maybe a one-year contract with different incentives
00:41:36if he hits different targets.
00:41:38But he was brought in to do a job and he's done that job.
00:41:42Who else would they bring in if not Michael Carrick?
00:41:45I mean, people keep asking that question.
00:41:48I think you need to be careful what you wish for.
00:41:51They've got a good manager there.
00:41:52He knows what he's doing.
00:41:53He knows the club and he's getting results.
00:41:56What more do you want?
00:41:58Now, Andoni Iraola's Bournemouth are unbeaten in 14 Premier League games.
00:42:03It's the longest run in the division and they're pushing for Europe.
00:42:06They faced Crystal Palace at the Vitality Stadium
00:42:08and Jonathan Pearce was there.
00:42:1217 years ago this weekend,
00:42:15Bournemouth overcame a minus-17 point deficit
00:42:18imposed for financial irregularities
00:42:20to stay in the Football League on the last day.
00:42:23A win today would take them to the brink of Europe.
00:42:25A draw for Palace on Thursday will be enough to take them
00:42:28to the Conference League final.
00:42:30Two Bournemouth changes from the draw with Leeds.
00:42:33Ryan replaces Brooks having scored from the bench last week.
00:42:36And Adams starts for the first time since early March
00:42:39with Christie dropping to the bench.
00:42:41And with Thursday's return against Shakhtar in mind,
00:42:44Palace rest Mateta, Mitchell, Richard, Saar and Wharton.
00:42:48Tadiria plays his first league game since March 5th
00:42:50and there are starts for Deveni for the first time since January,
00:42:53Lerma Johnson and Thursday's scorer Strand Larsson.
00:43:00Crystal Palace fans singing.
00:43:02They're on the way to Leipzig for the Conference Final.
00:43:06Bournemouth from near oblivion to Europe in a generation.
00:43:10That would be some story.
00:43:13And now Jimenez.
00:43:15And that's out for a corner kick.
00:43:20Pitchi today would take them above Brentford into sixth.
00:43:24Above Brighton.
00:43:25They drop down to eighth after that defeat at Newcastle.
00:43:28But it is a very tight tussle for European spots.
00:43:31In comes to Tadiria.
00:43:33Corner Henderson punches.
00:43:35Skied up by Brennan Johnson.
00:43:39Cavani couldn't bring it under control.
00:43:41Croupy.
00:43:42That hit Chaddy Riyad.
00:43:45And over it goes with a deflection.
00:43:48Ryan with a shot.
00:43:50He was tumbling as he had the shot.
00:43:53The teenager from Rio.
00:43:56Going to get it.
00:43:57Go.
00:43:57It's off the line.
00:43:59Keepers kept it out.
00:44:00He hasn't, you know, it's a goal.
00:44:03Bournemouth lead.
00:44:05I wonder who will be credited with it.
00:44:09Evan Nielsen wants the goal.
00:44:12But did the defender on the post in trying to hook it out.
00:44:16Actually hook it over his own goal line.
00:44:20Evan Nielsen with the header.
00:44:22That has to be an own goal.
00:44:24Jefferson Lerma.
00:44:25Not too sure what he thought he was doing with the header in that position.
00:44:29Trying to head it back to his goalkeeper.
00:44:30In a tight spot.
00:44:33Henderson couldn't keep it out.
00:44:35Early lead for Bournemouth.
00:44:37And having made the five changes this could get messy for Crystal Palace today.
00:44:44Kamada.
00:44:45Called in two mines.
00:44:47Scott pushes it through.
00:44:48Evan Nielsen.
00:44:52Bournemouth mines very much set on Europe.
00:44:56Crystal Palace mines not really here today.
00:45:00Evan Nielsen slightly leaning off it.
00:45:03Riola with just the three games left after this.
00:45:06Fulham away.
00:45:07Manchester City at home.
00:45:09Then Forrest on the last day.
00:45:11Tavernier.
00:45:14Bournemouth playing with their usual intensity.
00:45:18Scott.
00:45:18Lovely ball away to Jimenez.
00:45:21First time.
00:45:21Cross in.
00:45:22Would have been glorious.
00:45:23And it was over by Ryan.
00:45:26Lovely move.
00:45:28Swept out to the full back.
00:45:29Early cross.
00:45:30Couldn't get over it.
00:45:31Yes, sir.
00:45:33Yes, sir.
00:45:34Yes, sir.
00:45:36Here come Bournemouth again.
00:45:38Sweeping into the open space.
00:45:40Tavernier.
00:45:41Tavernier.
00:45:42Henderson beats it out.
00:45:45Could and should have been two there.
00:45:47Too fair.
00:45:49Sees ghosts in the middle.
00:45:51They've been such the dominant team.
00:45:53That was a chance to make it two.
00:45:55They didn't take it.
00:45:57And football is such a strange old beast.
00:46:00You wonder if the game could spin on that.
00:46:03It's been half an hour of mishaps.
00:46:06For the Conference League semi-finalists.
00:46:10Long throw by James Hill.
00:46:14Henderson comes.
00:46:15Good catch.
00:46:16Oh, he's dropped it as he bashed into his own player.
00:46:18He's crashed into a Bournemouth player.
00:46:20And a penalty is given.
00:46:23He came caught comfortably.
00:46:25Then bashed into his own player.
00:46:27Dropped the ball.
00:46:29And his momentum took him on.
00:46:31Sinesi felt the touch and went down.
00:46:34And there's barely a touch.
00:46:36Barely a touch.
00:46:38But Sinesi sensed it.
00:46:40And goes down belatedly and theatrically.
00:46:44And surely this will be VAR checked.
00:46:48Somewhere back in the long-distant pass, I'm sure.
00:46:53The Laws of Association Football said something like,
00:46:58it's a contact sport.
00:47:00Has been VAR checked.
00:47:02And it is a penalty.
00:47:04Dear oh dear.
00:47:06Game's gone.
00:47:09Kruppi.
00:47:14Puts the keeper the wrong way.
00:47:152-0 Bournemouth.
00:47:19It's a deserved 2-0 lead.
00:47:25From the joy of Thursday night to the despair and I would imagine fury of a Sunday afternoon.
00:47:34Good penalty.
00:47:37Four goals and five for him now.
00:47:43I think given that Crystal Palace were between games against Shakhtar.
00:47:47A Bournemouth victory today would not have been a surprise.
00:47:50But the comparative easiness of it is a surprise.
00:47:56True fair.
00:47:58Across the far post, Ryan.
00:48:05True fair allowed to get to the byline.
00:48:08Couldn't get over it, Ryan.
00:48:15On by Mitchell.
00:48:20Rooks for Bournemouth.
00:48:23In behind here.
00:48:24Chance for Ryan!
00:48:26And that's game over.
00:48:30Crystal Palace have brought all their big guns on for the second half to no avail.
00:48:37Lovely finish.
00:48:39Balls in back-to-back games for the Brazilian teenager.
00:48:45Rooks lovely ball and they've tried that pass so many times today.
00:48:49The pass put Lacroix out of the gate.
00:48:52But this is a super finish.
00:48:54Across the goalkeeper.
00:48:56Tucked it away.
00:48:59Looking on very satisfied indeed.
00:49:02The first team technical director, Simon Francis.
00:49:05What a wonderful servant he was to this club.
00:49:13Wharton.
00:49:14Oh, nice little drop of the shoulder that.
00:49:16In comes a chip looking for...
00:49:18Sar hits the post.
00:49:19That sort of day for Palace.
00:49:20Mitchell back to the far post area.
00:49:22And it's cleared away.
00:49:23I think Sar might have been offside anyway, but...
00:49:26It sort of sums up their fortune today.
00:49:30I don't think it would have counted.
00:49:32Maybe it would have been tight.
00:49:33Slammed the ball against the post.
00:49:36They're singing about going to Leipzig.
00:49:39They're on their way.
00:49:40They're on their way.
00:49:41They're on their way.
00:49:42And he had a European trophy to the two he picked up domestically in 2025.
00:49:52Do Venni.
00:49:54Do Venni.
00:49:54When it comes to Sar.
00:49:56Across goal.
00:49:59What would the situation have been today?
00:50:01They had Crystal Palace named their strongest team from the start.
00:50:07Crystal Palace fans might have been singing about on their way, on their way to Leipzig in the conference final.
00:50:14Are Bournemouth on their way to a European place themselves?
00:50:17On the pitch, it's been all about them today.
00:50:19Winning by three goals.
00:50:21Nils.
00:50:21Helped out by a dodgy penalty decision.
00:50:23But they were really, really well worth the win.
00:50:26Bournemouth super.
00:50:27A much-changed Crystal Palace side.
00:50:29Well below par.
00:50:31Bournemouth three, Crystal Palace nil.
00:50:33I think it wasn't physically.
00:50:34It was more psychology.
00:50:36The problem today, you know.
00:50:38You need to have quick solutions against you.
00:50:40You need to move quick.
00:50:42Everything has to be quick.
00:50:44And if you're slow in your head, the legs are slow.
00:50:45We all know this.
00:50:47And that's why it was more like this.
00:50:49After this huge evening, we just couldn't recover mentally quick enough.
00:50:55We don't talk about this game anymore.
00:50:57It's not really two days for the players to recover.
00:51:00Don't think about football.
00:51:01And on Wednesday, we will start with the team to prepare for the second leg.
00:51:07Because, you know, going to a European final would be maybe the biggest game in Crystal Palace history.
00:51:12Lots of the fans today.
00:51:13The fans were top.
00:51:14We needed it most to keep going.
00:51:16But also the clean sheet as well.
00:51:17It's a good mentality going forward.
00:51:20They are coming from playing Thursday night away, another away game.
00:51:24And probably it's not the game they wanted.
00:51:26With intensity since the beginning.
00:51:29And I suppose it has been really difficult for them.
00:51:32I think the players have shown that they are determined to fight until the last game.
00:51:37I think to be in, I think, 15 games and beat and run is incredible.
00:51:41And I hope we can finish it.
00:51:43It's three more games, three difficult games.
00:51:45But I think everyone is, it's not, I don't think we are feeling the pressure.
00:51:49You know, we are enjoying.
00:51:51Even if we know the results are important.
00:51:53I see my team enjoying against Liszt the other day.
00:51:55I think we played really well.
00:51:57Today the same.
00:51:58The two away games.
00:51:59Like, let's keep this level.
00:52:01And we don't know if we are going to arrive.
00:52:03And we obviously want to get it.
00:52:05But I wouldn't like to change our mentality or our approach.
00:52:08Because we see it closer.
00:52:11So Bournemouth, much the better team against a Crystal Palace side.
00:52:14Who, for all the reasons that everybody's mentioned, were not at their best today.
00:52:17And Alan, despite the fact that you have a fond regard for Premier League referees.
00:52:22You might find yourself mildly critical of the penalty that allowed them to open the scoring.
00:52:26Yeah, I didn't agree with it at all, to be honest.
00:52:29I thought it was very, very kind.
00:52:32I mean, he takes two steps after the, if there is contact.
00:52:37What I have to stress is, though, not every contact is a foul.
00:52:41And I also think if you're going to give it for minimal contact like that,
00:52:46then it encourages diving.
00:52:48That's the issue.
00:52:49And the referee's got a really good view of it.
00:52:53I mean, there is tiny, tiny, but certainly not enough to go down.
00:52:56He takes two steps after and then sort of twists his body.
00:52:59So, no, not for me.
00:53:01So, because the on-field referee has seen the incident, has seen the contact,
00:53:06and decides that that's enough to award a penalty,
00:53:09that's why there was no intervention from VAR,
00:53:12no going over to look at the screen, Micah.
00:53:14There was contact, wasn't there?
00:53:16But it was his fiat tripped after that.
00:53:19He rolled two seconds later.
00:53:21If he'd have gone down straight away, he said, hold up, no problem.
00:53:24But that's not a penalty. It's soft.
00:53:26I agree with Alan.
00:53:27Not every contact is a penalty.
00:53:29Shall we talk about something more positive?
00:53:31Yes!
00:53:31And that's Alex Scott.
00:53:32Oh, I love him. I absolutely love him.
00:53:34And he's my wild card for the World Cup.
00:53:36I tried to tell Alan a year ago about Anderson, and I'm telling him about Alex Scott now.
00:53:41I mean, set-pieces are so big in today's game.
00:53:44He takes a good set-piece.
00:53:46I don't know what Lerma's doing there, just misjudges it.
00:53:48But it's this calmness on the ball.
00:53:51When he gets on the ball, and then can you see a pass outside of the foot?
00:53:55Evan Olsen should do a lot better.
00:53:57But this is the best one for me.
00:53:58Can you receive the ball in between the lines?
00:54:01A lot of midfielders hide and don't want the ball.
00:54:04And yes, he might only play it to the side,
00:54:06but he's being brave on the ball and then keeping the ball moving.
00:54:11I just, every time I watch him, he's so comfortable on the ball.
00:54:16You know, he's got that little technique and touch.
00:54:19And he's got everything that a midfielder should have playing in the Premier League.
00:54:25And look at that.
00:54:25Just a light, delightful little touch there to Unal.
00:54:28And, you know, 67 touches.
00:54:31And every time I watch him, I just love his game.
00:54:33I think he's really that good.
00:54:35And long may it continue.
00:54:36He's having a brilliant, brilliant season.
00:54:38He's standing out in almost every game.
00:54:40He's superb.
00:54:41And one thing that these two teams have in common is that
00:54:44their managerial situation is in flux at the moment.
00:54:49Andoni Iriola will be leaving.
00:54:50Oliver Glasner will be leaving.
00:54:51And what's quite interesting about the two of them
00:54:54is that they have an identical record in charge, pretty much.
00:54:58They've got the same number of points per game.
00:55:01That's in Iriola, who's played 111, won 40 of them.
00:55:04So, it's 1.41 points per game and is ninth in the points ranking
00:55:08since he took charge.
00:55:10And Oliver Glasner finds himself in exactly the same position.
00:55:15Different number of games, obviously, but with that same record
00:55:18of 1.41 points per game and ninth in the points ranking.
00:55:22And yet, and yet, we're not going to see them next season.
00:55:26And they've both got an incredible chance to go out on a high.
00:55:29I mean, there is possible Bournemouth could qualify for Champions League.
00:55:32It is very possible.
00:55:33If Aston Villa finish fifth and win the Europa League, that sixth place
00:55:35will be a Champions League spot.
00:55:36Absolutely. And Crystal Palace have got a chance of winning a trophy.
00:55:39So, and they can go out on incredible highs.
00:55:41And they've both done brilliant jobs and clearly very, very talented managers.
00:55:46I'm going to see Iriola going because what he's brought to this Bournemouth side
00:55:50in terms of the press, the recruitment's been really brilliant,
00:55:53and the way they play football.
00:55:55So, to have that potentially go into the Champions League and leaving
00:55:58and not being a manager to take them at potential...
00:56:00We don't know he's going to be leaving the Premier League.
00:56:02Ooh! Oh, do you know something? I don't.
00:56:05No! Just leave you in Bournemouth.
00:56:06I don't know something.
00:56:08Very specifically said, I don't know something.
00:56:12Now, there is a big bank holiday Monday coming up.
00:56:15The Snooker World Championship final between Sean Murphy and Wu Yize
00:56:19concludes tomorrow from 1pm on BBC Two.
00:56:23You can listen to live commentary from Chelsea against Nottingham Forest
00:56:26on BBC Sounds and Five Live tomorrow from 3pm,
00:56:29as well as a massive game in the Scottish title race
00:56:33between Leavers Hearts and third-place Rangers from 5.30.
00:56:36And on Wednesday night, there's live WSL on BBC Three
00:56:40as Arsenal travel to Brighton.
00:56:42And now, here are all the rest of the goals from the weekend.
00:56:50Good spot. Strike from range!
00:56:54An emphatic opening goal!
00:56:58Bogle.
00:57:00His cross.
00:57:02Okafor!
00:57:08Okafor.
00:57:10Tanaka sits up nicely!
00:57:12Good save!
00:57:13And Poteau!
00:57:15Dominic Calvin Lewin!
00:57:18Anthony, what a fierce touch that is.
00:57:20And he's slipped in.
00:57:21Lume Chowna here.
00:57:23Lume Chowna!
00:57:24Yeah!
00:57:30Out comes Mabrucken.
00:57:31He's lost his footing and he's slipped.
00:57:33Murphy went down momentarily, but he's cross-fined to Sola!
00:57:37Magnificent!
00:57:41Burn's header!
00:57:422-0!
00:57:46Goal!
00:57:47Belieber.
00:57:48Gross.
00:57:49Hincherwood.
00:57:50Welbeck.
00:57:51Hincherwood again.
00:57:52Welbeck.
00:57:53Hincherwood.
00:57:54What a goal!
00:57:54This will be!
00:57:55Hincherwood thumps it home!
00:57:57And Brighton are right back in this game.
00:58:01Burn for Wisser.
00:58:05Oh, it's short from Van Eker.
00:58:08And Wisser with another chance to wrap it up.
00:58:11It'll come for Barnes.
00:58:12Barnes takes his time and rifles it home!
00:58:19Granit Xhaka will deliver this.
00:58:22There's a lot of pace on that and it's in!
00:58:25Mukiele's header.
00:58:26Sunderland in front.
00:58:28Hugo Bueno is gonna take this corner kick.
00:58:32And it's in!
00:58:36Santiago Bueno with the header at the back post.
00:58:41Lewis Potter's ball in.
00:58:43Isn't a bad one?
00:58:44And Coyote's there!
00:58:45And it's in!
00:58:46And Brentford have scored!
00:58:52Challenged by Joff right on the edge of the box.
00:58:55It's a penalty.
00:58:59And it's 2-0 to Brentford.
00:59:04Tidy turn from Damska!
00:59:06There it is!
00:59:07And it's an excellent three points for Brentford.
00:59:12Saka.
00:59:14He's got the space.
00:59:15Oh, he's now got the position.
00:59:17Brilliant from Saka!
00:59:18And a tap in for Jokeres!
00:59:22That's a delightful pass for Jokeres.
00:59:25A lot to do though.
00:59:26He's gotta wait for assistance.
00:59:28It comes from Saka.
00:59:29Saka!
00:59:35It's Trossard.
00:59:36And Trossard chips it in for Jokeres!
00:59:40Arsenal have been outstanding in this first half!
00:59:46Michael, not only did Arsenal get the win, they got three goals, which has put them on a four-goal
00:59:52better goal difference than Manchester City.
00:59:54They've scored one more goal than Manchester City, have played two games more.
00:59:58But is momentum now back with Arsenal in the title race?
01:00:01I think beating Fulham was massive.
01:00:05It's very difficult because I always thought Arsenal wasn't creating enough.
01:00:09I think bringing Saka back in, coming back from injury made a massive difference.
01:00:12I think Jokeres' runs in behind allowed them to get up the field a little bit earlier.
01:00:18I thought Trossard was good as well.
01:00:19So, in terms of momentum, yes, you say Arsenal will go all the way.
01:00:24But Man City, Man City always...
01:00:27They're always there or there about.
01:00:29So, it's going to be interesting to see towards the end of the season.
01:00:31Well, what is also very interesting is to see what you guys are going to predict.
01:00:35Having said...
01:00:37It's a fool's game to predict what's going to happen.
01:00:38Who's going first? Are you going first or am I going first?
01:00:40I think we're going to let Alan go first in this one because Alan's put a little bit of jeopardy
01:00:48into the whole equation.
01:00:50So, we'll take a look at who everybody's got left.
01:00:51And remember also that Manchester City have got games in there.
01:00:56Arsenal have got their semi-final still to come in the Champions League,
01:01:00second leg of their semi-final to come on Tuesday.
01:01:02Look at the amount of games, though, that Manchester City have left compared to Arsenal.
01:01:05I just think the belief that that will give Arsenal yesterday and the return of Saka
01:01:11and what he gives to that team in terms of balls into the box, energy,
01:01:15drawing so many players towards him which then might free up one or two others.
01:01:20I think going forward that result yesterday was huge for Arsenal.
01:01:23I can see them winning every game.
01:01:26When I look at Manchester City, they've got the experience.
01:01:30Some of the players have obviously been there and know what it's about.
01:01:33Clearly the manager has.
01:01:35But I just think that that game at Bournemouth with the form there in,
01:01:37they might just get a draw there.
01:01:39So, that's why I'm saying Arsenal.
01:01:41Micah?
01:01:43Both teams are going to win everything.
01:01:44OK.
01:01:4785, 85.
01:01:48So, now you've given yourself the more difficult task of trying to predict
01:01:51how many goals they're going to score in these games.
01:01:52Well, I'm thinking of 2012.
01:01:54We did it on goal difference.
01:01:55I think Man City will do it on goal difference again.
01:01:58You've been saying this for a while.
01:02:00I have.
01:02:00Those 2012 comparisons, I think, Micah.
01:02:02I have.
01:02:03Yeah.
01:02:03Maybe.
01:02:04Just maybe.
01:02:05I think it will be the same this season.
01:02:06It's going to be very interesting to see.
01:02:08And, of course, Manchester City have got a couple more games
01:02:10to try and get that goal difference up than Arsenal have
01:02:12between now and the end of the season.
01:02:14But Arsenal have the advantage at the moment.
01:02:16Let's take a closer look, then, at the Premier League table.
01:02:19We've already looked at the very top of it.
01:02:21Manchester United's win means that they will be playing
01:02:23in the Champions League next season.
01:02:25Bournemouth have moved above Brentford and Brighton
01:02:28in the race for European football.
01:02:30Tottenham's second win in a row sees them climb out of the
01:02:33relegation zone with just three games left to play.
01:02:37Nottingham Forest, two points above them, go to Chelsea tomorrow.
01:02:53And the results are in for April's goal of the month.
01:02:56Rio and Gamora in third place with 17% of the vote.
01:03:00With 19%, it is Xabi Simons.
01:03:03And the winner with 22% is Karu Mitoma.
01:03:14Gross.
01:03:15Oh, what a finish that is.
01:03:18It's Karu Mitoma with a fantastic goal.
01:03:23A blistering volley.
01:03:27Always worth seeing again.
01:03:28Thank you very much to Alan and to Micah.
01:03:31Lovely to have your company this evening as Spurs
01:03:33dealt their relegation rivals a hammer blow.
01:03:36Good night.
