Not every flash is guidance.
Some hearts move only when the path is easy.

The lightning almost snatches away their sight. Whenever it lights the way for them, they walk in it, but when darkness falls over them, they stand still. ⑳

A blinding flash of lightning…
That is how the Quran portrays the hypocrites in this powerful scene from Surat Al-Baqarah.

The lightning almost overwhelms their sight.
Whenever it lights the way for them, they walk in it.
But when darkness closes in, they freeze.

It is a terrifying image of a heart that never truly surrenders:
moving when the truth feels easy,
stopping when faith demands patience,
certainty, and sacrifice.

This is not steady guidance.
It is hesitation.
It is instability.
It is a soul that reacts to flashes, but cannot endure the path.

In the recitation of Ibn Kathir, this passage carries a striking force,
as if the verse itself flashes across the heart and asks:
Do you walk with the truth only when it suits you…
or do you remain firm when the road turns dark?
