00:02This program is rated G
00:04and considered acceptable for all ages.
00:12Previously on Renovation Resort.
00:15We surprised the teams with their biggest challenge yet.
00:19Got no bunkies in Texas.
00:21I've never built a bunkie before.
00:23I'm scared.
00:24One team locked in.
00:26Beast mode.
00:27While others struggled to keep up.
00:28We're not behind.
00:29They're just the head.
00:30It's total chaos, Brian!
00:32It's dirty in here, Mark.
00:34In the end, Tatiana and Thomas proved
00:36they were the ultimate bunkie bosses
00:38taking home their first solo win.
00:43Now, as they head back inside their lake houses...
00:46We have to do more in here.
00:47The pressure is on to make the ultimate first impression.
00:55The ultimate renovation competition is back.
00:58We built four brand new lake houses from the ground up.
01:03Now, four powerhouse designer-contractor duos from across North America
01:07will take on the ultimate renovation competition.
01:11Their mission, to turn these blank slates into amazing vacation destinations
01:15in just eight weeks.
01:17The team with the best lake house will be crowned Renovation Resort champions.
01:22And take home $100,000.
01:27I'm Brian Baumler.
01:28And I'm Scott McGillivray.
01:30Let the lake house battle begin.
01:32This is Renovation Resort.
01:42We're coming off a win, and it feels good, feel confident.
01:46Let's see if we can do it again.
01:47This week, I think we have to stick to the original design.
01:50No changes, and let's just hammer it out with precision.
01:55It's good to see everybody.
01:57Hi.
01:58Hi.
01:59Well, we just passed the halfway point.
02:01Yeah.
02:01Yeah.
02:02Congratulations.
02:03Two wins to Tatiana and Thomas.
02:05Everyone else has one win under their belt.
02:07Every win moving forward counts.
02:09Yes.
02:10Well, I hope you enjoyed your time outside, because this week, we are moving back inside.
02:16It's time to tackle one of the most important parts of the property.
02:20That is the main entry and the main bathroom.
02:23Each team must create an entry that does it all.
02:25It's got to be functional, welcoming, and it has to make a strong first impression for your lake house.
02:31And that main bathroom needs to balance both style and durability,
02:35because it serves as the central bathroom for the property and the two guest bedrooms.
02:40We'd love to give you all the time in the world to do this,
02:43but you only have one week to create a mind-blowing first impression.
02:48Is everybody ready to make an entrance?
02:50Yes.
02:52All right, then make an exit.
02:53Let's go.
03:00Okay.
03:01Front entryway.
03:03And we've got the main bathroom today.
03:05We're the first team with two wins, so it feels good to be back on top.
03:09First impressions count.
03:10We need for this entryway to have style and function right out of the gate.
03:14We'll do a built-in with a bench and plenty of storage,
03:17and a statement entry door, black with glass panels,
03:21and then here, a full-length mirror so everyone can check their vacation look on the way out.
03:27For the main bathroom, let's mix and match tiles to create an eclectic mosaic.
03:31We'll skip the glass shower door and go with the curtain.
03:34I'm thinking green shiplap on the back wall to add character behind a single vanity,
03:39and to top it off, a statement light fixture to bring it all together.
03:42There's a lot of work in the bathroom.
03:44I'm hoping that the green that complemented the island will not only give continuity throughout the house,
03:51but I think it'll give a little bit of a pop.
03:56With our Moonlight Bay lake house, we really want to make sure that our guests feel relaxed.
04:03I want to maximize the space that we have in this little niche.
04:07How about we build a custom bench area for added function and a personal sign above it?
04:12I want to wow the guests, so a modern sleek door is a must.
04:16And of course, include a chalkboard so guests can leave cute little messages.
04:20In the main bathroom, we'll continue with a calming neutral palette
04:24and a striking wallpaper to tie it all together.
04:28For the shower, we'll bring in some textured geometric tiles for shape
04:32paired with a black vanity for both comfort and convenience.
04:36I love this palette.
04:37And to save time, let's retrofit a pre-built bench.
04:42Sounds good.
04:43Okay.
04:43That's a good idea.
04:44We'll modify it, we'll make it look custom, but we'll use it as a template so we expedite our timeline
04:48here.
04:50All right, Mars, this is all go first impressions.
04:53What are you thinking?
04:54Okay, let's continue our neutral tone walls and build a custom seating nook with storage
04:59and finish it off with pine paneling and custom cushions.
05:03We're pulling a rustic look in the main bathroom with wood-clad walls.
05:07Our shower top will be accompanied by striped tile.
05:10We'll complete the space with a farmhouse-style vanity and wrought iron details.
05:15This week's challenge is all about first impressions.
05:18When our guests open the door, we want them to feel welcomed and right at home.
05:23Stone on the floor, wallpaper, lots of layering in the space.
05:27Our family is so warm and welcoming.
05:30We're trying to embody that feeling into this entryway.
05:33When we're hosting, when company's coming over, we like to create a setting for people
05:38and we like to make sure that everyone's having a good time.
05:44Okay, this entryway is the first space people will see when they come in.
05:49So it's got to make a huge impact.
05:52The entryway is our chance to introduce the guests to Coral Coal.
05:57The first impression is a lasting impression.
06:00We have to give them this feel of escape.
06:04But kick off your shoes and stay a while.
06:06Of course.
06:07So as soon as you step into this space, beginning at your feet, there'll be a mosaic designed
06:12to look like waves rolling onto shore.
06:14And then we'll install a tropical-inspired wallpaper and, of course, storage is a must.
06:19So we will add a tall coat closet with a full-length mirror for last-minute beauty touch-ups.
06:24We've got to welcome them, so I want a welcome sign as soon as you come in.
06:28Custom sign by Liz.
06:30I got it.
06:31Okay.
06:31Custom LED sign.
06:32Okay.
06:33Something about paradise.
06:34For the main bathroom, I love the idea of adding wainscoting with a bright emerald tile in a vertical pattern.
06:40And then on the top, a beautiful palm-leaf tile that'll wrap around the walls into the tub.
06:45And then to maximize space, a single vanity with storage.
06:49This is the inspiration for our tile entryway.
06:54Let me just understand.
06:55So let's say this is the entryway.
06:58Yes.
06:58This is the door we're entering.
06:59So we're going from sand into water?
07:02No, we're going deep waters into sand.
07:05And then the sand will go right with the wood floor and flow.
07:08I think that's a really great statement to enter the house.
07:11People throughout my life would see my homes and ask me, who's your designer?
07:17And I'm like, it's just me.
07:18And then they'd say, well, will you do it for me?
07:20And I'd say, no, I'm just a lawyer.
07:22I laid this out so that we can pick out tiles and do the ombre effect.
07:27When 2020 came, my husband pushed me to post on social media.
07:32And I was terrified.
07:35Lawyers and judges follow me.
07:37They're not going to think I'm serious about the law.
07:39They're going to laugh at me.
07:40But I did it with my heart pounding.
07:42And my first clients ended up, in fact, being lawyers and judges.
07:48I thought law was my passion, and I still very much so enjoy it.
07:53But when I realized that a passion is what you would do for free, never practice law for free.
08:00But interior design, I do for free all the time.
08:06Main entrance and the main bathroom are super important.
08:11They're the first two spaces that guests are going to see.
08:14But it's not a ton of space, so I want to see that the competitors can express their theme
08:20and get people excited within two steps of entering that first door, or you've failed.
08:26And at the same time, it needs to be practical.
08:29This is going to be difficult.
08:31Hey, Taylor.
08:32Ooh, okay, okay.
08:34I'm just doing a rough pattern as you've designed,
08:37just so I can get the gist of how I'm going to lay everything out.
08:40But roughly, this is kind of the pattern that we had in mind.
08:43I don't like how it's going to, how the lines are going to be parallel to the floor.
08:50One of the things I struggle with as a designer is knowing when to step back and just put the
08:58design to rest.
08:59I think we should, we did diamonds.
09:03Is it worth it, all this extra work that I'm going to have to do?
09:06Any other changes I should know about?
09:08So, instead of doing a clean cut this way, could we, like, follow the diagonal line and just this?
09:16Cut to where?
09:18To the end of the door?
09:19I think to the end of the door, like where the bank head is.
09:22Okay.
09:23Okay.
09:25Thank you!
09:26Okay, I gotta get to work.
09:28Okay, sounds good.
09:29Thanks.
09:30I think you're hyper-focusing, and it's taking a little too long.
09:33We need to eventually have a plan to finish in time.
09:37I'm frustrated because Meridad wants to move forward, but I am considering all of our options.
09:44Otherwise, why am I here?
09:50Was there a reason why you picked such a challenging tile for us?
09:53Here.
09:54Uh, I feel like that's my M.O. at this point.
09:57It's expected.
09:58She could have chosen a lot easier tile for me, so it's taking a little bit more time than I
10:04would like, but it's looking good.
10:06Look at how much faith I have here.
10:10Oh, did you hear that?
10:13Not this again, Mars.
10:15No!
10:15Oh, another one?
10:24When I hear the doorbell, my heart sinks.
10:27Let's take a look.
10:29Please be something good.
10:31Okay.
10:32This week's design detour takes you right to where you're standing.
10:35The porch.
10:36The porch.
10:37Your entryway sets the tone, so extend that style outside.
10:40A cohesive, welcoming porch.
10:42Instantly sets the mood for your lake house, making it inviting.
10:45Stylish and hard to leave.
10:46Scott and Brian.
10:48Okay.
10:48I can do it with this one.
10:49I can do it with it, too.
10:50Okay.
10:51Good.
10:51So we're doing the porch.
10:53I ain't gonna build nothing.
10:54Don't worry.
10:55Getting a little stressful.
10:58We want to see what happens on the front porch.
11:00You need something that speaks to the home, that invites you in, and maybe asks you to stay
11:04a little while.
11:05It's got to be a slam dunk.
11:08So this is the inside of the bench?
11:11Mm-hmm.
11:12Because you want it to look like it's, like, built into the wall?
11:15Yes.
11:15Almost?
11:16Mm-hmm.
11:16I'm really worried about this week, because I do have a lot of custom builds and installs,
11:21and I don't know if we have enough time for it.
11:25This bench is a lot more work for me to do, because it is a built-in.
11:29No, you're putting it on the ground.
11:31Lift it up a little.
11:31But Marcy's here to help.
11:33What do you think?
11:35This is absolutely horrid.
11:37I have to grab the back pillow, and I have to grab a throw blanket, and then I have to
11:39see.
11:40We have a lot to do, and we have to do it in less than a week.
11:46One step forward, 18 billion steps back.
11:55I was up all night, and we have to do more in here.
11:58My original design is not going to be enough.
12:00I'm struggling back and forth in my mind, because all I can think about is how the judges
12:05talked about my bell wall in the kitchen, and how it looked a little plain, and how I'm
12:10going to balance that.
12:12You want to do more?
12:13What are you thinking now?
12:14Let's clad all the walls in the space, plus the ceiling.
12:21Okay.
12:21We're going to do it in a wood, so we can stain it to match the floors.
12:27The product we have is pre-finished.
12:29I think it has, like, wax and product on it.
12:32You're going to have to help out.
12:33You're going to have to do more sanding, and we should pre-stain all of this.
12:36I think that'll speed up the work.
12:37Sanding.
12:39Lots of sanding.
12:40I am definitely feeling like my worst enemy in this situation.
12:45Okay, I'll do my best.
12:47Deal?
12:47Oh.
12:48Okay.
12:49I want it to look nice and fresh like this, so.
12:53Okay, I can do that.
12:54Got a bit of work to do.
13:01So, entrance and bathroom.
13:03First impressions.
13:04Looking forward to this one.
13:05You want to take two first impressions?
13:07I'll take two first impressions.
13:08Sure.
13:09I'll head this way, you head that way.
13:10Done.
13:11Best part of my day.
13:12Always.
13:14I'm just messing around with the miters right now to see if we can pull this off and make it
13:19look nice,
13:19or else I might have to just do something a little different, so.
13:23Hello.
13:23Oh, hello.
13:24I like the little peek hole through your door.
13:26Oh, yeah.
13:28Hello, hello.
13:29Oh, there we are behind the door.
13:31Yeah, welcome in.
13:32Oh, my goodness.
13:32The wall's falling apart.
13:33We're falling.
13:34The entrance, the bathroom.
13:36Yeah.
13:36Okay, we got some cool geometric tiles in here.
13:39Well, I'm back to haunt you.
13:40Yes.
13:41Oh.
13:41Oh, yeah.
13:42You're like, no, I'm like, yes.
13:44This is a pivot from what I initially had planned.
13:47We did have the entryway actually a little bit more simplified.
13:49We are stepping it up.
13:51We're sanding every single one of these.
13:53Okay.
13:53We're going to add a beam at the top.
13:57Just terminate it with a pine beam.
13:58Okay.
13:59Just to give it some separation.
14:00So we are going to create a bench seat here, but we wanted it to be kind of like a
14:04cubby.
14:05Yes.
14:06So we're going to have seating here with storage, which is great.
14:10Are we going to be able to open it or the cushion's going to get in the way?
14:13Like with your kitchen banquette.
14:14It was kind of hard to open with the upholstery on top.
14:18No.
14:18We're going to be able to open it.
14:19We're doing the cushion differently this time.
14:21It's going to be a lot easier to open and close.
14:24You're a carpenter.
14:24You know, there's a lot of miters and stuff to make this look really clean.
14:27You want to know what I would do?
14:29Like, I wouldn't.
14:31Miter's going to be really tough.
14:33Nothing square, straight, flat, level.
14:35You know, so you're going to be scribing a lot.
14:37And a lot of things people look at.
14:39I know.
14:39And try and pick apart.
14:40Don't want it to look sloppy.
14:41Yeah.
14:42So you think closed storage here is the way to go?
14:44Closed storage.
14:48No.
14:50Just asking.
14:51Okay.
14:51Yeah.
14:52I don't want it to look like there's a bunch of shoes everywhere.
14:54But do you think people are just going to leave shoes everywhere?
14:57Or are they going to open the thing, put them away, and have to take them out?
15:00True.
15:00Versus just kind of tossing them under?
15:01Okay.
15:02True.
15:02Okay.
15:03I'm going to get out of your hair.
15:04You guys have a lot of work to do.
15:05Thanks for coming by.
15:06Yeah.
15:06Thank you for visiting.
15:07Have fun.
15:08Good luck.
15:08Yeah.
15:09See ya.
15:09Maybe start with the ceiling, like you said, instead.
15:12No, I don't think I'm going to miter them.
15:15It's too much work.
15:17I think we should just scrap this whole bench box and just do the floating bench.
15:21I got a plan.
15:23It'll be good.
15:24You won't even be able to tell.
15:25As long as it looks modern and not cabin, log cabin.
15:29It cannot look like that.
15:34Hey, Taylor.
15:35Hi.
15:36So for our main bathroom, the hardest part is the wallpaper.
15:40I concur.
15:43Do we have to start off a little bit?
15:45The wallpaper is a little challenging because it's a peel and stick and it's stretchable,
15:50which could warp the mural that we're trying to put up.
15:53I'm nervous right now.
15:54And it's so detailed that every line needs to match up perfectly.
15:58Otherwise, it just looks amateur.
16:01Is that a bubble?
16:02I see a bubble.
16:03Looks great.
16:04That's a bubble.
16:05What is...
16:06Wait, Murdan.
16:08The line...
16:08I told you about that.
16:10The ceiling is straight.
16:10No, I know, but that's like half an inch, though.
16:12If I went with it, eventually your wallpaper would get like this.
16:15And I'm already stressed out because we're under a time crunch.
16:18Let me just get the second panel and think while I'm getting the second panel.
16:22There's not a lot of time.
16:23We just have to make a decision now.
16:27I would rather be scrutinized on that than anything here.
16:31Okay, yeah, let's run with it.
16:32Let's go.
16:33Okay, gonna pull?
16:34Yeah.
16:35Kick.
16:37I have no slack at the ceiling.
16:40This is a disaster.
16:41I think we gotta start the first panel again.
16:43We're ripping off the first full panel.
16:47Okay, okay, okay.
16:48Okay, you're good.
16:49We're going to surpass the ceiling line by like two inches, three inches.
16:54Highly stressed out at this point.
16:59Yeah.
17:01And then this.
17:02Nobody's here.
17:03Because you've got lots.
17:04It should be lined up.
17:07Yikes.
17:14Yeah.
17:15And then this.
17:16It should be lined up.
17:21Wait, wait, wait.
17:21No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
17:22We should not be giving ourselves that much stick because then air bubbles are going to form.
17:26Well, how tight are you?
17:27Are you two okay?
17:29Uh, you know, uh, felt better.
17:31Felt better before, but it's okay.
17:36Okay, can you hear it?
17:37Wait, wait, wait, wait.
17:41Oh, no, no, no.
17:42Those aren't lining up.
17:43No, no, no, can I?
17:45This, I'm going to say something out loud.
17:47This might be the most difficult choice of wallpaper I have ever witnessed in my life.
17:53How many lines there are here?
17:55Probably 150 lines in there.
17:57You are a pros, I'm assuming, at wallpaper.
18:01Am I correct?
18:02That's a smile.
18:03That is a fake smile if I've ever seen one.
18:06I love that you are taking a bold approach to this.
18:10Executed well, this will be impressive.
18:13Executed poorly, and this is what will steal the win from you.
18:18Okay, I am going to leave you to it because I don't think you're ready for me to come through
18:22here yet.
18:23Good luck.
18:30Who's there?
18:31Knock, knock.
18:32We got company.
18:33You're supposed to say, honey, I'm home.
18:35Oh, honey, look at this.
18:36I thought we were working on the entrance and the bathroom.
18:39This tape is the exact size of the entryway.
18:43We just needed some space and room for our puzzle.
18:45I don't see the complete picture yet.
18:47We're starting with deep ocean.
18:50We're skidding teal like the Bahamas.
18:53Yeah.
18:53I see the sky.
18:54I see some clouds.
18:55No.
18:56No?
18:56That's not what we're going for at all.
18:59No, I don't see sky clouds.
19:00It's getting shallow, and then you reach the sand.
19:03Oh, you get to the beach.
19:04Yes!
19:04Okay, that's one of the things I love flying down to the Bahamas is I just, I get lost in
19:10all the colors and the blues and the greens.
19:12I love that Brian understands the Bahamas.
19:16It's just like someone is already speaking your language.
19:19Well, this is going to be great, but I do want to see the bathroom.
19:23I love these large format tiles.
19:25It's just like a wallpaper, but in.
19:27But in tile form.
19:28In tile, wow.
19:29And we're doing a Wayne's coat down here with that tile down there.
19:34I mean, it's two small rooms, but there's a lot of detail.
19:37And obviously, you're spending a lot of money on the tile, so you want to make sure installation
19:41is perfect.
19:42This really is the first impression.
19:43Yes.
19:44Yeah, so.
19:45They're going to pack a punch for sure.
19:46Yes, we are.
19:48I think even though we haven't won a challenge in the house, like an individual challenge that
19:52just represents Liz and I, I still think we put together some really good spaces.
19:57You have to keep your confidence up, because everybody has a unique style.
20:01Right.
20:02You've got the flavor of the Caribbean here, which is incredible.
20:05I'm excited.
20:06I'm excited that you're excited.
20:07I'm very excited.
20:08You've got a lot of work to do, so I'm going to get out of here.
20:11All right, have fun.
20:13We'll see you later.
20:21Our door is here.
20:22I absolutely love it.
20:33Is this my coral door?
20:35Love the door.
20:36It looks perfect.
20:38Mm-hmm.
20:41It's so good.
20:42Hey, Thomas.
20:43This is great.
20:44We need an official Coral Cove dance.
20:46All right, what are we going to do?
20:48What about this?
20:50Hey, Coral Cove.
20:54There's a lot going on on this property.
20:56When we took it over, we decided to save a few of the cabins in better shape for future
21:00use.
21:01So we want to make sure that we're elevating those experiences.
21:04And today, we're building a little fence to provide some privacy at the Birchview cabin.
21:09This one's going to be pretty neat, and it's right down by the water.
21:12It's our best location.
21:14First step towards having curb appeal and shore appeal.
21:20The first board is the sweetest.
21:24When you arrive at a vacation property, do you want to be relaxed or energized?
21:29You know, for me, I like to be relaxed.
21:32I like an adventure.
21:35Kind of like the first time you met me.
21:37Remember when we first met?
21:38We met backstage at an event somewhere.
21:40I was backstage, and he was coming off stage.
21:43He just walked over to me, and he was like, hey, what are you doing after the show?
21:47I was caught right off guard.
21:49Then he was like, all right, well, I'm going to be chilling over here.
21:51Once you're done off stage, let's catch up.
21:54So I went on stage.
21:55Everyone's like, so are you and Brian friends?
21:57I'm like, I guess so.
22:00We need some plants.
22:02There's a Veradek planter there.
22:04Let's put it at the end.
22:06That'll tier nicely with the fence, and we'll put some grasses in it.
22:10Voila.
22:11Let's put that right beside the fence.
22:13Put one on that side.
22:15Oh, that looks better already.
22:16Beautiful.
22:17This looks good.
22:22Okay, this looks way better.
22:24I'm going to take on this wallpaper on my own for the rest of this room, so I can free
22:29up some time from your dad.
22:37Melissa's sick today, so I'm going to try not to annoy her.
22:42I woke up so sick this morning.
22:48Take a sit, Mel.
22:50Melissa's not feeling well, so today I'm the designer and the contractor.
22:55Putting this on.
23:10There we go.
23:11We're already not having a lot of storage in the original design, so I'm thinking scrapnet,
23:18LED lights, and then have a floating shelf where we can have baskets for people to put
23:23their stuff.
23:23Okay.
23:24We're pivoting on our original design.
23:27It's a lot more work, and I am concerned that the workmanship is going to go down because
23:33I'm stressed for time.
23:41I think we have to come up with a plan B in case, because I don't know if it's because
23:45they're not drying fast enough, but as soon as the second layer hits, you can see the issue.
23:51It's because it's got a clear coat on it.
23:53It's just that the gloss is just bringing it out.
23:56These are all f***ing.
23:58Without sanding this product all the way down, it's just not looking even.
24:03We don't have probably the time to kind of go back and fix all this, so what's the plan?
24:09I'm looking at this wood, and I hate it.
24:20There's no way we'll get it done trying to do what we're doing right now.
24:23I think we should just find a paint, and I can start installing this right now.
24:27I know painting's an option, but I'm really concerned that it's going to take away from
24:31that modern feel.
24:33We've got to get moving here.
24:34Let me get the paint deck out and pick a color that at least goes with this theme.
24:39I feel like we're starting all over again in this entryway, and I'm scared that we're
24:44super behind from the rest of the teams.
24:56The wind is not in my favor.
24:59This one goes with this one.
25:02You know what these trees really remind me of?
25:04Nono's pear trees in his backyard.
25:06Oh, they do look like that.
25:09We lost our Nona and Nono a few years ago.
25:11When I think about them just sitting together in the garden under the beautiful pear and
25:15apple trees, we should do their names.
25:18I can write Tina and Tommaso under one of the trees as a little dedication to them.
25:22Aw, I love that so much.
25:24I just got chills.
25:26Aw.
25:28I'm going to create the entry LED sign.
25:32My husband and I, it was our idea to create a lounge, so I wanted to order an LED sign.
25:37I wasn't finding exactly what I wanted, and so I just tried.
25:41I went to my local hardware store and bought acrylic and other supplies.
25:46I really took my time and created a sign, and it says the Boom Boom Room.
25:52It's really cool.
25:53We hung it outside, and each time I created a sign, I learned a different process.
25:58I learned to be more efficient.
26:00That's one letter so far.
26:04I am concerned about the bench by the front door.
26:07I'm a perfectionist, and not having enough time just sucks.
26:14I'm not too excited about how this week's going to go.
26:17Holy smokes.
26:27We only got one more day left.
26:31We're feeling it.
26:32Because we had to pivot from staining to painting, now we have to go through and fill all the imperfections
26:39of the wood.
26:39It's an epic disaster.
26:41I don't want to be the first team in renovation resort history to not finish a challenge,
26:46but that's what it kind of looks like.
26:49And we still need to do the design detour.
26:53Ugh.
26:55The design detour for this week is the front porch.
26:59I think that it's really going to pull everything together.
27:01It's the first thing that our guests are going to see as soon as they approach the house,
27:05so I really want to make sure that it's cozy.
27:08We're installing the shutters.
27:09They're representing the Bahamian architecture.
27:12This is a very minimalistic look.
27:13I don't know how the judges are going to feel, but I'm leaning into this.
27:19Beautiful.
27:22We're down to the wire.
27:24We never have enough time to do anything these days, but that's not stopping us.
27:29We can't hang anything.
27:31Everything's wet, and we don't have time.
27:34This challenge has gone by in a blink of an eye, and we still have so much to do and
27:39no
27:40time to complete it.
27:41Hey teams, you've got one hour remaining.
27:43One hour.
27:45I don't know.
27:46Can you hold that up with it?
27:47It could be an option.
27:51I just hit it, and it just made a big dent.
27:54Okay teams, you've got ten, nine, eight, three, two, one.
28:04Okay, put down your tools and meet us at the fire pit.
28:07Aw.
28:11That's it.
28:12We're done.
28:13We thought this was going to be the easiest one, but it turned out, no.
28:17We haven't won since the primary bedroom.
28:19We need this win.
28:21Hello, hello, hello.
28:23Hello, hello.
28:24So do you think you've made a long-lasting impression?
28:27I think so.
28:28Yeah.
28:29Well, we're about to find out, because our guest judges this week, they know a thing or
28:34two about what it's like to compete under extreme pressure.
28:38This father-daughter duo are kitchen and bathroom experts, and we saw their talent firsthand when
28:45they took home the title as last season's renovation resort champions.
28:49Please welcome Holly and Graham.
28:54I think having Holly and Graham as our judges is really good, because they know how wild
29:00these time frames are.
29:01Hi.
29:02How are you hanging in there?
29:02Are you holding up?
29:03Yeah.
29:05We feel your pain.
29:07We know how stressful this is.
29:08This part is very stressful.
29:09Yeah.
29:10Well, welcome back.
29:10It's so great to see you both.
29:12Together, we will be judging your front porch, the entry, and the main bath.
29:18So, Holly and Graham, why don't you tell us what you'll be looking for this week?
29:22When I walk into the space, the first thing I want to know is, what story are you telling
29:26with your design?
29:27I'll be paying close attention to the emotion it creates the moment I step inside.
29:31And I'm going to be looking for pristine finishes and craftsmanship.
29:35So, we're going to go have a look.
29:37Yeah.
29:37All right, we'll be back.
29:38We'll be back.
29:42Welcome to Cedar Shore.
29:43Oh, that's so cute.
29:44The name is right there on the entry mat.
29:46Their front porches were the design detour.
29:49That is a very strong front door.
29:51Yeah.
29:52I like that.
29:53A couple of plants here to add some privacy, a little seating area for the evenings.
29:57It feels peaceful.
29:58Like, as soon as you arrive, you know you can just kind of get settled and relax.
30:02Well, let's see if the Cedar Shore theme continues inside.
30:05All right, let's do it.
30:05Go right ahead.
30:07Oh, this is gorgeous.
30:09Oh, this is warm and welcoming.
30:11This does feel like a cozy kind of clamshell.
30:15They've wrapped the whole thing in the tongue and groove.
30:18I visited with Tatiana and Thomas.
30:21They were talking about mitering all this wood and leaving it raw pine.
30:26I like that they've done it now and trimmed it out and painted it.
30:30It has a really nice texture, and I like how they added it to the ceiling as well.
30:33And the same color.
30:34I think the same color is the key.
30:35It feels custom.
30:37It feels intentional.
30:38And the guest experience, Tatiana has been consistent with this throughout.
30:42Oh, yeah.
30:42Like, the guest experience is off the charts with her.
30:46This is a good little seat.
30:47You just give it a little test.
30:49It's a little bit of tuck away, a little bit of open storage.
30:52You can't go wrong with a seat at the front door.
30:55Never.
30:55The risk, I think, with something like this, you know, you are on vacation.
31:00Are they playing it too safe?
31:01Is it too familiar?
31:03In my opinion, I think safe is good.
31:06It's comforting.
31:06It's welcoming.
31:07It's familiar.
31:08It's cozy.
31:09Better to be safe than sorry.
31:11Exactly.
31:12Let's check this out.
31:14What do we have?
31:14Oh, I love it.
31:16Oh, that's a green, eh?
31:17Oh, my goodness.
31:18This is stunning.
31:20I think the tile is really pretty.
31:21I think it goes really nicely with the tub tile.
31:24And I like how they did that strip along to, like, give it a little bit of interest.
31:28Green can be right or wrong.
31:31It's a little too bright.
31:33You can get a dated green really fast.
31:35The way they set everything up, it feels like hospitality is part of their DNA.
31:41Yep.
31:42Tatiana and Thomas divided the judges with their bathroom, but still nailed their first impression,
31:47while spending the least of all the teams.
31:50Will their big design pivot be enough to win the week?
31:55Shallan and Liz.
31:56Oh, I like the bicycles.
31:59This door is by far the most energetic thing we've seen so far, and I love it.
32:05It really sets the tone for the space.
32:08I feel like it's going to be so fun in there.
32:10Did you notice the shutters?
32:11Oh, my gosh.
32:12Oh, wow.
32:13That's so cute.
32:14This front entrance is definitely giving me a I'm Curious vibe.
32:18Yeah.
32:18Let's figure out what's going on here.
32:20A lot of energy out here.
32:20Hopefully it continues inside.
32:23Oh, my goodness.
32:24Look at these colors.
32:25Hey, that's different.
32:33Oh, my goodness.
32:34Look at these colors.
32:35These coral colors.
32:36Wow.
32:37Look at the floor.
32:38Oh, my goodness.
32:39I'm loving the installation.
32:40The workmanship is incredible.
32:41This is the ocean and the beach.
32:43Ah, very clever.
32:44He did a good job.
32:45This is a piece of art.
32:46You feel like you've stepped into the Bahamas.
32:48Wow, this sign is absolutely beautiful.
32:50This sign was actually laser cut and assembled by Liz.
32:54Wow.
32:54All right, let's see.
32:57Wow.
32:58Oh, my goodness.
33:00Oh, wow.
33:01Is that wallpaper?
33:02This is beautiful.
33:03That's not wallpaper.
33:05Large format tile.
33:06I've never seen this many mixed tiles in one space.
33:11It all really blends well.
33:12I think it looks really beautiful.
33:14I'm just a little weary on the height choices of the tile on this side versus the tile on that
33:19side.
33:19I kind of wish it matched.
33:21But otherwise, I think it's a very interesting combination that I would have never come up
33:26with myself.
33:26Definitely a great place to stay, but I think we should flamingo.
33:30Oh, no.
33:30Mm.
33:31Flamingo.
33:33Shallan and Liz went all in spending over $30,000 on their colorful Bahamian entry and
33:39main bath.
33:39It's a major risk that they're hoping brings a major reward.
33:46Marcy and Melissa, they're sisters.
33:48Really?
33:49This is a great introduction.
33:51The door color, I think, is spot on.
33:53Yeah, I love these chairs.
33:54It's really pretty.
33:55Well, let's see what's on the other side.
33:56Okay.
33:58Wow.
33:59This feels classy.
34:01That's a first impression.
34:03Yeah, I like that floor already with the, like, almost blue slate and the sandstone.
34:07A little pop of paper.
34:08I like this finished ready pine.
34:10This is one of my favorite shiplaps.
34:12And you can beat it up.
34:13You can throw coats, belts.
34:15It's true.
34:15It can take a beating.
34:16And what do you think about this little bench area with the cushion?
34:19It's actually a cozy little nook.
34:21I came in here to pay them a visit a couple days ago, and this was a bench with clothes
34:26storage underneath.
34:27Oh.
34:28This is way handier.
34:31Wow.
34:32Wow.
34:33It's classy again.
34:35It's that same shiplap.
34:37Bathtub's really fresh.
34:38I like the hardware in there.
34:40I like the way they framed it.
34:42I like this.
34:43You've got some texture on the floor.
34:45This is a bathroom you would spend some time in.
34:47The only thing I would say I might make a different choice on would be the mirror.
34:51And the light.
34:52It kind of seems like the sconces are quite close to the mirror.
34:56Yeah, and the mirror feels like a shield or something.
34:58It feels a little medieval.
35:00I do like their styling, though.
35:01I think they did a really nice job.
35:03They've got tarp, which is nice.
35:05They've got candies by the sink.
35:08Oh.
35:09Oh.
35:10No.
35:12With a modest spend of $19,000, Marcy and Melissa focused on custom builds and functionality,
35:18emerging as quiet contenders with a clear lake house vision.
35:24This lake house belongs to Taylor and Meridat.
35:27If this is the vibe that they're going for, this sort of simplistic, really clean lines,
35:31I think it hits the mark.
35:33It's very Japanese-influenced.
35:35I like how they tied in the little art piece in the garden.
35:38I love this front door.
35:39Yeah, it's really cool.
35:40That is great.
35:43Wow.
35:44That is not the floor I expected.
35:45Oh, that's one way of doing it.
35:47Yeah, that's a transition.
35:49I love the vibe walking.
35:50The vibe is great.
35:51Taylor has done such an incredible job of modernizing and keeping with that Japanese theme
35:56as well, which I love.
35:57What I like about this is they've given you a little shelf, get some chalk, have some
36:01fun.
36:01Great place to put your keys and your wallet, too.
36:03Exactly.
36:04The plan is good, but some of the elements feel a little incomplete.
36:07On the storage down here, just looking at the cut.
36:10Yeah, that's too bad.
36:11Yeah, and it's scraping the floor a little bit.
36:13It's almost like, see this detail here?
36:15Yes.
36:16That could have been the bench there.
36:18Yeah.
36:18All right, let's head into the bathroom here.
36:20All right, let's have a look.
36:21Oh, wow.
36:22Whoa.
36:23Look at this wallpaper.
36:24Look at that, mountains?
36:26This is the part of the process that I walked in on, and they were struggling with the wallpaper
36:30pieces.
36:31Just gives some visual interest.
36:32Looks really cool.
36:33Yeah.
36:33The vanity is super stylish.
36:35I think they did a good job matching everything.
36:38Yeah.
36:38This works so well with the exterior.
36:40If you were to come in and look at this first, they just clicked.
36:45Taylor and Maredad spent $24,000 to bring their Japanese-inspired vision to life.
36:50Their plan is strong, but will quality concerns cost them when it matters the most?
36:57We've looked through all of these spaces.
36:59We've got a tough decision to make, that's for sure.
37:01See how difficult this is going to be?
37:03This is tough.
37:04I don't know how we do this.
37:06We're about to find out.
37:13And we're back.
37:16It's nice to be here.
37:18I can just feel the amount of work and love that you put into your spaces.
37:22It's unbelievable.
37:23They just look so good.
37:25Let's talk about what we saw here.
37:27Tatiana and Thomas, you nailed it.
37:30Again.
37:30The consistency is there from the moment I arrive, the branding on the floor mat.
37:35Your front porch was really comfortable and inviting.
37:38I could see just kicking back there and reading a book.
37:40I think you made the right call by putting in that trim band, because I think your hairline
37:46moved a little bit trying to miter all of that pine, but I think you made the right call.
37:53The color on that pine, great job.
37:55I loved your main bath tile.
37:58It was really beautiful and the colors were really nice.
38:00The warmth of the front entrance didn't translate completely to the bathroom for me.
38:04It did feel like a bit of an overdose on the color.
38:08The green was a little too fresh for me for the calmness that your house exudes.
38:15Marcy and Melissa, your space was beautiful.
38:18When you first walked up to the porch, you could tell exactly what it was going to be like inside.
38:23The door was a beautiful color.
38:24Oh, yes.
38:24And I loved how you carried that through.
38:26When the door was open, it felt the same.
38:27You tied it all together.
38:29The bench at the front, you executed with excellence.
38:33The paneling on the wall in the front entry was really beautifully done.
38:36I liked that the color kind of tied back to the wallpaper.
38:39I thought that was really clever.
38:40In the bathroom, the shower tile, it just looked really beautiful.
38:43We were getting medieval vibes a little bit from the light fixtures and the mirror.
38:49I don't think any of us could really decide if that went with the overall style.
38:54And then the lights were really tight.
38:56And I didn't love the exposed bulbs there.
38:59Okay.
39:00But you are tying together the pieces of your property room by room.
39:06And it's all coming together now.
39:08That means so much.
39:09Try not to cry.
39:13Shalon and Liz, approaching your lake house immediately, it stands out.
39:18It seemed so fun.
39:20You're just transported to the Bahamas.
39:22I love that you committed, like that front door, that color just pops.
39:25I love the shutters on the side.
39:27And then opening the door, immediately, the Bahamian Ocean just gently washes you ashore.
39:34To do the ombre effect is very difficult to execute.
39:38This ombre loved the ombre.
39:41You really, you nailed it.
39:43And the neon sign was so cool.
39:45Like, you made that?
39:46Yep.
39:47That is wild.
39:48I can't even fathom that, honestly.
39:50It was so, so beautiful.
39:52Walking into the bathroom, I was not ready.
39:56I was not ready for what was happening there.
39:58The tiles were so clever.
40:00Like, you picked up all the individual colors from that front entry tile and put it all over the walls.
40:05When you're working with those tiles, it can be really challenging.
40:09Mixing different sizes, figuring out where to start a tile and where to stop it.
40:14But clearly, you invested in this space, and you've made an impact.
40:20Taylor and Merdad, a nice, clean representation right across the front of the lake house.
40:25It felt zen.
40:27It felt peaceful.
40:27You could tell there were some Japanese influences right away.
40:31The door was spot on.
40:33I loved that little chalkboard detail and the entry shelf.
40:37That was really cute.
40:38I loved that you had the shelf up above in the main entry.
40:41So, let's talk about the bench.
40:43You used prefab boxes, right?
40:45For the storage?
40:46We used the prefab box to save time, and then we kind of modified from there.
40:49So, when you put that veneer on top and you sit on it, what happens to the doors for the
40:54storage underneath?
40:56You lose a little bit of space, and that door doesn't want to open.
40:58Yeah.
40:59And the sides of those doors, it took away from the entire room because they weren't functioning properly.
41:04They didn't open.
41:05It looked like you hacked the edge of the door so that it would open.
41:08Looking back on it, I wish we had actually built the box rather than start it off with a prefab.
41:17The bathroom is where I got a sneak peek when I came to do a visit, and the wallpaper installation
41:24gave me anxiety.
41:25But I think that in the end, you got it almost perfect.
41:28Anyone walking in will be wowed by it.
41:31I think all the bathroom is beautiful, but yours was my favorite.
41:36You obviously made a huge impression on Renovation Resort last year.
41:40And you have now all left your marks on your lake houses with these incredible spaces.
41:46So, congratulations.
41:48You've worked hard.
41:49But one team has cleaned up this week.
41:55The winners of Renovation Resort's Entry and Main Bath Challenge are...
42:05Shalon and Liz.
42:11We won!
42:13We won!
42:15I feel like we went for it, and they loved it.
42:20How good do you feel right now?
42:23We've not won an individual challenge in the house, so it's really exciting to finally win a room in the
42:30house.
42:31You deserve it.
42:32Well done, girls.
42:32You deserved it.
42:33Super exciting.
42:35And wouldn't it be even more exciting if you could celebrate this win here?
42:44That's right.
42:45Thanks to Stay With Stay, the rental platform where all these properties will be listed.
42:50As winners of this week's challenge, you get to come back, not only to stay in your lake house with
42:56your friends and your families,
42:59but staying in the entire resort in all the lake houses.
43:03Oh, my goodness.
43:04That's amazing.
43:05Shut up.
43:05I keep our welcome.
43:09You are officially the first guests of Renovation Resort.
43:16Congratulations.
43:17This was a big week.
43:19You'll also receive a big advantage going into next week's challenge.
43:23And for the teams who didn't take home a win this week, there's still a few chances left to impress
43:29us in a big way before we crown the next Renovation Resort champions.
43:34Everybody ready for their next challenge?
43:36Yes.
43:38Yay!
43:40Congrats.
43:43Coming up on Renovation Resort, the teams double down.
43:46Aren't you excited?
43:47Taking on the two guest bedrooms.
43:49Perfect.
43:50Such a good choice.
43:51Oh, my.
43:52It's fine.
43:53It's fine.
43:53They'll get it.
43:54I'm in too deep.
43:55In a blast from the past, Shalon and Liz hold the power.
43:58You can either help the competition or hurt the competition.
44:02Big ideas are unleashed, and the race for the win is on.
44:06To the battle of bunk beds.
44:07Yes.
44:08But not every plan.
44:09I'd rather come back to this.
44:10Will survive the week.
44:11You're not going to make the time to come back to it.
44:21You're not going to make the time to come back to it.
44:22You're not going to make the time to come back to it.
