The Stockton ferries will be upgraded to extend their service life by 10 years.
Transcript
00:08Late last year the Australian Maritime Safety Authority said that our vessels
00:12were structurally sound. However over the last 12 months we've had a lot of
00:17maintenance and repair issues on these ferries and the community's certainly
00:21been very vocal about that and I too have been very vocal with both the
00:25Premier and the Minister for Transport John Graham about the issues with our
00:29ferries. As a result of that lobbying today we've got some great news that we're
00:35going to invest in refurbishing and life extending these two. This major
00:39investment will allow us time to investigate the procurement of new ferries.
00:44We'll be looking hopefully in the future at either hybrid or fully electric ferries
00:49but that does take some time and I've had enough and the community's had enough of
00:53maintenance issues with these ferries so we're going to make this major
00:57investment to extend the life of those ferries.
