00:06I'm trying to get people to stop shooting each other that's it not many knew Utah's governor
00:13before the assassination of Charlie Kirk our nation is broken but Spencer Cox has been on
00:21a years-long crusade to heal American politics I don't think it's hyperbole to say that the
00:29future of our country is at stake we cut across the Baltic in this small Navy dinghy looking for
00:39clues to a nautical whodunit undersea cables that carry electricity gas digital communications
00:46have been severed in the waters off the coast of Finland so I have to ask what seems to be
00:52the
00:53obvious question is this Russia the most prominent fighter in the UFC hint he doesn't wear gloves
01:08good fight thank you very much it's the all-powerful boss Dana White we're definitely
01:17unapologetically masculine can this bubble over to too much when you hear toxic masculinity what's
01:23that mean you tell me no you just said it can you be too masculine tell me the answer is
01:28hell no
01:31I'm Scott Pelley I'm Bill Whitaker I'm Anderson Cooper I'm Sharon Alfonsi I'm John Wertheim I'm
01:38Cecilia Vega I'm Leslie Stahl those stories and in our last minute we tap into director Rob Reiner's
01:46latest film tonight on the 58th season premiere of 60 Minutes
02:00a lonely voice rose above the rancor after the murder of Charlie Kirk Spencer Cox the Republican
02:08governor of Utah may not have been familiar to many but after the assassination in his state he asked
02:15whether we could all stop hating our fellow Americans we wanted to hear more and we were surprised to learn
02:23the 50 year old Republican has spent years campaigning for reconciliation Cox is asking Americans to respect
02:31our differences which in this moment is not universally admired in his own party
02:39I get accused on the right all the time of I just want people to have a kumbaya moment I
02:44want people to hold hands and just hug it out and we're done with that we're done holding hands and
02:49hugging it out I'm not asking anybody to hold hands and hug it out I'm not asking for that I'm
02:54trying to get people to stop shooting each other that's it and I think
03:01I think what I'm doing and what I'm saying is the best way to do that some people will disagree
03:07with that and that's okay we should have these debates as a society I'm not always right I've made mistakes
03:14other politicians I think are making mistakes right now in trying to elevate the temperature but but I'm going to
03:22just keep having these conversations
03:23in this moment what's at stake Scott I I don't think it's hyperbole to say that the the future of
03:32our country is at stake this grand experiment that we embarked on 250 years ago can we hold together and
03:40what if our politics cannot find the path to the brighter light
03:43that's the question I always ask when I hear people say that that we're at war I say okay and
03:49and what what does that mean what is next who who am I
03:53supposed to shoot now the shot September 10th was the kind of attack now happening every couple of months or
04:08so in April the Democratic governor of Pennsylvania and his family escaped after their home was firebombed in June in
04:18their homes to Minnesota Democratic lawmakers and their spouses were gunned
04:23down a year earlier on the campaign it was Donald Trump himself when told this time it was Utah Cox
04:32didn't believe it but there it was on his phone the video was already out there was no fog of
04:41war there there was no doubt what had happened that terrible awful video that I wish I had not seen
04:46I hate again I hate again social media that almost every person in this country including our young people have
04:51seen that video on a loop over and over and over again and I can't unsee it I can't stop
04:57seeing it every time I close my eyes that's what I see
04:59the governor sent an aide to the hospital who reported that Kirk was dead Cox dialed a number as you're
05:08calling the White House what is in your heart just sickness nauseous disbelief anger at this point I'm very angry
05:22to whoever did this we will find
05:26you we will try you and we will hold you accountable to the farthest extent of the law his anger
05:35was showing I just want to remind people that we still have the death penalty here in the state of
05:39Utah but when he searched for meaning he recalled the suffering of both parties our nation is broken we've had
05:56political assassinations recently in Minnesota we had an attempted assassination on the governor of Pennsylvania and we had an attempted
06:09assassination on a presidential candidate and former president of the United States and now current president of the United States
06:21nothing I say can unite us nothing I say can unite us as a country nothing I can say right
06:27now can fix what is broken we just need every single person in this country to think about where we
06:36are and where we want to be
06:38I've been following I've been following I've been studying political violence and so I I'm keenly aware when these things
06:46happen and I'm seeing I'm seeing people get get murdered get attacked who are Democrats and Republicans and that's where
06:55it came from in that moment
06:57In the days after the murder as you're trying to bring the country together Steve Bannon the philosopher of the
07:05MAGA right called you a national embarrassment
07:10Yeah I love free speech I would give my life defending his right to say that about me that's okay
07:18we can have that debate there are some people that think I am a national embarrassment and that's okay too
07:25Who do you blame for the division I do believe that social media is a cancer and it is taking
07:33all of our worst impulses and putting them on steroids
07:37It is driving us to division it is driving us to hate these algorithms that have captured our very souls
07:45they've captured our free agency these dopamine hits that get our young people and our old people addicted to outrage
07:54and hate
07:54that serve us up on a regular basis are absolutely leading us down a very dark path
08:01A path through platforms that look like civil war powered by algorithms programs written to amplify posts of rage
08:13The algorithms are absolutely destroying us once they know what your political leanings are then it's like a pack of
08:21wolves that just attack
08:22We have this collective problem where that we can't solve because we're all sucked in and we don't know how
08:29to get out
08:31We met Spencer Cox in the Capitol at the foot of the Wasatch range in Salt Lake City
08:38He was raised one of eight on a farm of modest means
08:42He's a lawyer devoutly Mormon with three years left on his second term
08:48His conservative record includes tax cuts expansion of gun rights and restrictions on abortion
08:57You are a republican but not a trump republican
09:00Well that depends I did vote for him this last time
09:03But not in 16 or 2020
09:05That is also correct and he gives me a very hard time about that every time we're we're together
09:11The tent is broad on the right and uh and i'm trying to show one way to do politics
09:18His way to do politics surprised many in 2020
09:23Campaigning for governor he refused to run negative ads
09:28I think you should vote for me
09:29Yeah, but really you should vote for me
09:31Instead he asked his democratic opponent to join him on the air
09:35We can disagree without hating each other and win or lose in utah we work together
09:40So let's show the country that there's a better way my name's chris peterson and i'm spencer cox and we
09:46approve this message
09:49cox took the message beyond utah when in 2023
09:53He became chair of the bipartisan national governors association
09:58There he launched a campaign called disagree better and went back on the air
10:04I'm spencer cox republican governor of utah and i'm jared polis democratic governor of colorado
10:1123 governors from both parties joined disagree better
10:16Healthy disagreement means not assuming that the other side is deluded misinformed or actively trying to overthrow america
10:25This month cox took the message to the university of notre dame
10:29He's done more than 20 of these events nationwide
10:34Often with democratic governors
10:36Including michelle lujan grisham of new mexico
10:41Does disagree better mean that we should drop our differences and everybody meets in the middle?
10:45Absolutely not in fact, it's the exact opposite of that abortion is an issue on which we disagree passionately
10:51And and yet even though we have these very strong it looks like a chasm between us
10:58I think we would both agree that um we should be doing more to take care of of single moms
11:03I think those are the types of things that uh that we can agree on while still being pretty passionate
11:09about uh about
11:11Whether we think abortion should be legal or not
11:12When you do that and we listen and we find that we there is some common ground
11:16It it reduces right lowers the temperature it provides opportunity not just for discourse but doing something
11:24Do governors understand something that washington does not yes
11:29Yes uh we're completely about results not about rhetoric
11:34We like to say that that potholes aren't partisan and governors do have to deliver actual results
11:40I think there's a sadly in in dc. We've seen this performative politics and and and and much less substance
11:48There are some people watching this interview who are disgusted that you two are sitting together
11:55Well, we need courage over comfort, you know, I don't work for a partisan party. I work for every single
12:03new mexican
12:04Yeah, I I see her as an american before I see her as as a democrat or anything else
12:10I think we need more of these conversations
12:13I think we need them in our in our own homes in our own neighborhoods in our school boards in
12:19our city councils all across the country
12:21The day charlie kirk was murdered
12:24One of the first calls spencer cox received
12:28Was from democrat michelle lujan grisham
12:31We should be condemning at every chance we get
12:35Political violence our democracy falters when we don't this is an american this is a person
12:42This is a person who lost his life
12:46In free speech and there's real grieving
12:49For that family and it doesn't end tomorrow. It will last a lifetime
12:56Says the democrat says the democrat because it's true
13:01It's true. Please include that
13:03It was late that afternoon we returned with spencer cox to utah valley university that flag
13:11That doesn't represent any single group
13:14It doesn't represent one part of our country and not another part of our country
13:19Students gathered where charlie kirk was killed
13:23Cox told the crowd they can't count on politicians
13:27Change he said must come from all of you
13:32Thank you. Thanks for leading us out. Thank you
13:35I'm desperately looking for more architects and fewer arsonists again
13:41It's so easy to burn down and tear down
13:43And and we've got too much of that today
13:46I'm hoping that a positive vision for our country a positive vision for our party
13:51Treating everyone with dignity and respect. That's how we get our country back
13:56Some people watching this interview might be thinking he should run for president
14:00But the fact is you would never survive republican primaries
14:04Well, the thought of running for president
14:08Makes me nauseous. I have no interest in that
14:11I'm glad that there are good people who are willing to do that
14:13But but that is not something i've ever been interested in
14:17And you're also correct
14:19The the way we select our candidates
14:24Makes it almost impossible for someone like me to have an opportunity
14:27Is it possible that your message is naive that the violence will just continue?
14:34That's uh, that's very possible. That's very possible. I think the founders were naive
14:41to believe that they could start a new country based on a very different principles than it
14:46Virtually any country in the history of the world. I think that it was naive
14:51That that we could rebuild after a civil war had fractured us and we had killed 600 000 of our
14:58fellow americans
14:59So I believe that naivete with with some passion can change the world. It's probably the only thing that ever
15:06has
15:12Eyewitnesses to murder
15:14Yours was the last question charlie kirk ever heard
15:17Yeah, I don't really know how to grapple with that
15:19That's 60 minutes overtime dot com for that
15:28As tensions rise between europe and russia
15:31russian aircraft have pierced nato airspace in poland romania and estonia in recent weeks
15:38and in the baltic sea another incident has raised the stakes even higher a tanker named the eagle s was
15:46It's tracked dragging its anchor across the seafloor leaving severed cables in its wake
15:51Undersea cables carry the lifeblood of modern existence
15:55Electricity gas digital communications
15:58Global banking the internet itself
16:02Without the cables all that would grind to a halt
16:06In the past two years at least 11 cables have been cut in the baltic
16:11primarily in the waters off finland which shares an 832 mile border with russia
16:18Who's behind the rash of breaks is a mystery but this much is known
16:24Before russia's war with ukraine these types of incidents were extremely rare
16:32We cut across the baltic sea in the small navy dinghy looking for clues to a nautical who done it
16:38We headed for the 170 foot finnish minesweeper
16:44This massive ship towering above us is a crucial part of finland's maritime defenses
16:50Guarding these waters between russia to the east and estonia to the south
16:55Everything is quite close here you've got estonia you've got this you've got russia you've got finland
17:01Sweden all come together right in this area
17:05Chief of staff of the finnish navy tony joccia told us the ship uses remote vehicles to monitor undersea cables
17:13in the gulf of finland
17:14A narrow shallow stretch of the baltic crowded with thousands of vessels
17:19Many of them carrying russian oil and gas to india and china through finnish waters day and night
17:26We know what's happening
17:28In the gulf of finn all times
17:30That's a lot
17:32To keep an eye on that's true
17:34For example russia 40 percentage approximately of their commercial traffic goes through the baltic sea
17:41And a lot of that is the oil transport?
17:44Yes, definitely
17:46It was one of those ships the eagle s loaded with russian gas headed to egypt that triggered a nationwide
17:53alarm in finland on christmas day
17:562024
17:57i remember it very clearly because i was here in my residence
18:05with my family with my old father
18:08spending christmas day
18:10prime minister peteri orpo got an urgent call from finland's border guard that shattered the holiday calm
18:17i was told that we have problems with electricity cable between finland and estonia
18:24a critical undersea electric cable
18:27s link 2 had been severely damaged 50 miles off the finnish coast
18:32because there had been five other recent suspicious cable and gas line breaks
18:37the border guard told the prime minister it's suspected this one was deliberately severed by a ship
18:44what did they say they told me there is suspected ship
18:49named equal as
18:52in area and they are on their way to the place
18:57and they are ready
18:58to react
18:59with the eagle s near finnish territorial waters prime minister orpo
19:05authorized the extraordinary step of moving to intercept the tanker i made a phone call
19:12to the chief of the border guard
19:15and and i said to him you can trust that you have my and my government's full support use all
19:25the tools you have
19:28finland called all hands on deck as the coast guard vessel turva sped toward the eagle s
19:34police and finland's national bureau of investigation monitored from shore
19:40we had the possibility to intervene and apprehend and secure the evidence helsinki police chief jerry
19:49says the coast guard radioed the eagle s asking if its anchors were up and secure the reply was yes
19:57sir our anchors are secured but three hours later at 6 p.m as the turva closed in the crew
20:04could see that was not true the anchor chain was hanging in the water
20:09we had a strong reason to believe that
20:13it was an intentional activity from their side
20:17the yuku was informed that a total of five crucial undersea cables along the route of the eagle s
20:24had been broken that day and the ship was still on the move and of course there was a risk
20:30that criminal activity may continue unless the authorities intervene just after midnight as the
20:37ship entered finnish waters finland dispatched an armed team of special forces to the eagle s by helicopter
20:44they dropped onto the vessel in the dark and seized control from about two dozen crewmen
20:50from the countries of georgia and india the police and the border guard and the defense force were
20:56actually taking over the brits is that unusual well it was first time when after second world war when
21:06finnish troops boarded a boat the first time since the second world yeah that's why because we had
21:14to do something in that case there was imminent threat that other critical infrastructure between
21:20finland and estonia would be damaged we used like risto lohi overseeing the eagle s case for finland's
21:27national bureau of investigation told us the next cables in the eagle s's path could have strained
21:34estonia's electricity and gas supply so there was also a necessity to intervene this is underwater video
21:42of the crime scene finnish investigators determined the eagle s had raked its anchor across the sea
21:49bottom for more than six hours when the ship was ordered to haul it up the anchor was so battered
21:55it
21:56snapped off the chain we found the anchor and the track mark on the seabed started from the first damaged
22:03cable and the track mark was continuous until the location when the vessel was stopped police handed their
22:11evidence to finnish prosecutors who charged the captain and the eagle s's two senior officers
22:17with aggravated criminal mischief and interference with communications they pleaded not guilty the
22:23damaged cables cost 70 million dollars to repair the case is still underway in court the captain claimed
22:32the anchor had been dragged by accident how far did they drag this anchor approximately 100 kilometers
22:39all together that's 66 miles before the coast guard cutter torva confronted and ultimately stopped the eagle s
22:48commander mikko simola told us the tanker's behavior raised serious alarm there are fail-safe measures
22:56on the anchor to keep it from dropping accidentally are there not certainly there are uh safety mechanisms
23:04there are like three different safety mechanisms the captain of the ship says that he didn't know
23:13that the anchor had been lowered and dragged for 66 miles is that believable it's hard to believe
23:21being a coast guard officer certainly a captain of the vessel must always know whether the anchor is
23:28hoisted or in the sea so interesting comment this is what i could say an interesting comment yeah
23:34certainly more suspicious the ownership of the 20-year-old eagle s a seven-month investigation by 60 minutes
23:43found its owners hidden behind layers of shell companies public records list the primary owner as a
23:50woman from azerbaijan with an office in dubai the ship is managed by a company in india and leased to
23:58a
23:58major russian oil company that oil company that oil company has financed a fleet of hard-to-trace tankers
24:05to move russian oil evading western sanctions this phenomenon as we called russian shadow fleet shadow
24:14fleet shadow fleet shadow fleet it is pumping money to putin's war machine he's still making yes
24:23this profit off of russian oil even though the sanctions are in place yes prime minister orpo
24:29told us the shadow fleet's constant presence in the baltic sea is raising the temperature with russia
24:35barely 200 miles across the water do you consider russia a threat of course russia is threat we can see
24:44what they have done against ukraine and also in finland we have seen many uh hybrid attacked what do you
24:52mean by hybrid attacks we have seen these incidents in by baltic sea we have seen sabotage in europe
25:05so we are not in the war but we are under attacked you're not in war no we are not
25:13in war but you're under
25:15attack because we are the target beyond recent russian aircraft incursions into nato airspace
25:23eu officials have connected russia to numerous attacks in europe fire bombings assaults on rail and
25:30arms depots explosive packages and now the mystery of the eagle s this breaking of the undersea cables
25:40this was not happening before the outbreak of war between russia and ukraine no we didn't have any
25:47this kind of incidents before russian aggression against ukraine but after that we have had many
25:54so i have to ask what seems to be the obvious question is this russia i can only say that
26:02was clear
26:02connection between russian shadow fleet and these incidents it's clear does it feel as though russia
26:11is probing and prodding to find soft spots in not just finland's defenses but nato's this is their way
26:20to try to harm us make us afraid prime minister orpo says the eagle s was a test of finland's
26:30resolve
26:31we sent a clear signal to the shadow fleet and maybe to the actors behind that we have our limits
26:40finland joined nato in 2023 the alliance recently launched operation baltic sentry deploying ships
26:48and planes to monitor the shadow fleet and safeguard critical seabed infrastructure british admiral keith
26:55blount nato's deputy supreme allied commander told us the eagle s incident was a provocation that demanded a
27:03response we launched a a a response to try and deter prevent similar incidents happening again in the
27:13baltic so it was kind of a triggering event for us and of course we haven't seen another incident since
27:19we
27:20established baltic sentry what is the message that baltic sentry is sending we're not going to be
27:29pushed around interfered with we're not going to be subject to illegal behaviors
27:34that either threaten the rule of law or worse threaten the safety and security of our people
27:41because of its connection to the shadow fleet the eagle s was sanctioned by the eu england and canada
27:48restricting its access to ports on the face of it the incident seems to be a small thing
27:55but when i see your reaction when i see nato's reaction that eagle s incident has turned out to be
28:05quite a big deal
28:06yes it was a big deal we have to react and it was first time we react we show that
28:15we are ready to
28:16defense our critical infrastructure our property and that's why it was turning point i have a saying in
28:23united states enough is enough yes enough is enough
28:40he holds no championship belt but dana white is the most prominent and pugnacious figure in the ufc
28:46the ultimate fighting championship the ceo slash hype man is the embodiment of the league itself
28:52long on unapologetic force short on precious formality intoxicating to some and acquired taste
28:59to others and much like the ufc white has penetrated the defense of mainstream culture
29:05moving in from the fringes to join the ultra rich serve on the board of meta and befriend the current
29:10president a small disclosure we've been speaking with white for years about his appearing on this
29:15broadcast a heavyweight disclosure this was before paramount skydance parent company of cbs
29:21recently paid almost eight billion dollars for the ufc's media rights yes cage fighting on network
29:28television perhaps the ultimate sign of how far this sport and its no holds barred leader have come
29:43tuesday night's all right for fighting we sat outside the octagon for dana white's contender series
29:50a streaming show that doubles as the ufc's farm system yeah yeah yeah if the fighters entertain white
29:57like this first round knockout artist he rewards them with a ufc contract good fight thank you very
30:03much incredible an invitation by the big boss to the big show white is chief author of the greatest
30:11sports business story of this century maybe ever oh that looks good in his 30s he helped buy the ufc
30:19then a renegade cage fighting operation for two million dollars now 56 he runs a global league valued
30:27at more than 15 billion dollars 675 fighters under contract
30:32a brutal mashup that includes kickboxing wrestling and jujitsu fire away you know me man you've known
30:44me for a long time fire away the entire business is built more on white's force of personality than
30:51on a traditional playbook we met him at ufc headquarters in las vegas whenever i read
30:57stories about the business of ufc i literally laugh and say nobody knows anything about the business so
31:04what is everyone missing for 25 years people have been trying to figure it out and people have been
31:10trying to do it someone told me it all starts with dana's gut that's absolutely true i don't know
31:15who told you that but that's right we got a sellout crowd here 5 000 people it was his gut
31:21that got him
31:21into the game he managed boxers in boston then fighters in vegas in the fledgling sport of mma
31:27mixed martial arts when white caught wind ufc's owners were out of money his first call went to two
31:34high school buddies frank and lorenzo fertita las vegas casino heirs i said i think they're going
31:40out of business we could probably buy this thing and we should the fertitas put up the money white
31:46got 10 but he had to run the damn thing the ufc wasn't just unprofitable it was largely unsanctioned
31:55in february 2001 white needed a home for the first fight of his regime none of the venues wanted this
32:02you know they didn't believe in it they didn't like it and they were worried about the type of crowd
32:06that would show up for this type of event he found hospitality at the taj mahal in atlantic city
32:14then owned by a familiar fight fan donald trump when the trump brand was here and the ufc brand was
32:21down there he he saw it and said i'd love to have this at my casino he showed up the
32:28first prelim fight
32:29of the night and stayed till the main event was over he watched the whole card watched the whole card
32:34what did the balance sheets look like back in those early days it was so bad that at one point
32:39lorenzo called me and said dana i can't keep doing this man i'm i'm literally blowing all my family's
32:46money and obviously that night i'm thinking we're done it's a wrap this this is over and he calls me
32:52the next day and literally this is what he said to me let's keep going so they did do you
32:59want to be
33:00a fighter a reality series and its storylines helped draw in millions of fans obviously a massive
33:06massive accomplishment electric match-ups and joe rogan on the mic kept it rolling oh he's done
33:12from the beginning white imposed his will just ask the guys in the live tv production truck that didn't
33:19follow his direction i literally got up from my seat went back there and kicked the door they disobeyed
33:24the truck yeah kicked the door open to the truck you know i was basically like you ever do this
33:30again
33:30i'm firing every one of you long story short we ended up firing everybody it's been an honor calling
33:35your fight sir thank you very much you're welcome by 2016 the sports sanctioned in every state the ufc
33:42sold for four billion dollars on the condition white stay on his ceo
33:50president trump still routinely shows up at ufc fights but now makes a grand entrance the relationship
33:58that he and i have and when we get together when i have dinner with him we don't talk politics
34:03what
34:04do you talk about goofy guy stuff that all guys talk about you know what i mean like what we
34:09talk
34:09about rocky movies we talk about different fights that have happened but that's a real samurai white's office
34:15is a shrine to guy stuff the mother of all man caves this is a piece of art that represents
34:21war war is
34:22all about money you want to use the term with me that i quoted you on the the wussification of
34:27america
34:28i think i said but yeah i get it we're on 60 minutes yeah has a pendulum swung the other
34:33way i feel
34:34like it's it's starting to cage fighting has always celebrated male bravado
34:43but white is intent that more women than ever follow the sport he bristles at the suggestion
34:49that ufc fandom is taking on new edge you don't think we're there's this cultural movement it's a
34:55lot of guys call it the manosphere you're one of the leaders you don't talk about knowing your fan
35:02base and knowing who they are who are they 18 to 34 year old males and growing we're global we
35:08are
35:09definitely unapologetically masculine can this bubble over to too much when you hear toxic masculinity
35:18what's that mean you tell me what's the definition of toxic how can somebody be too masculine is that
35:26a possibility can you be too masculine you tell me no you think so the answer is hell no hang
35:32out with
35:33dana white in vegas and odds are good you'll end up here at the bellagio hi how are you guys
35:38good to
35:39see you thank you enough of a regular he's plied with whiskey and a cigar before heading to a private
35:45baccarat table and this city nothing is off limits how much we bet in here 400 000 the 400 000
35:53dollar hand because these sissies won't give me a million a hand a few hands in fortune was not in
36:00his corner god damn it oh no bueno we're down a million 240. you heard right he was down 1
36:09.2 million
36:10dollars what's this feeding in you i'm a sick sick that's the only explanation i can give you not 10
36:19minutes
36:19later boom let's go come on where's the stance he was cashing out up 700 000 this is how we
36:32do it
36:33another win for white's instincts his gut proved golden once again in august when paramount skydance
36:40outbid others and offered the ufc 7.7 billion dollars over seven years for u.s media rights putting
36:49the ufc right up there with other major sports leagues you still have 10 of this enterprise
36:54i have a deal here that would make roger goodell and every other guy go holy meaning what i got
37:03a
37:03damn good deal listen man this business has worked just fine the model isn't broken you know i love
37:10when people who have no idea what they're talking about one question that hounds white here we go round
37:16two does enough of the ufc's big money see its way to the fighters the big stars can make millions
37:23per fight the so-called bottom-of-the-card fighters are paid as little as twelve thousand dollars
37:31earlier this year the ufc settled a class action antitrust lawsuit with fighters for 375 million
37:38dollars your media rights deal basically doubled is fighter pay gonna increase proportionally i can't
37:45sit here right now and tell you you know it's double it's one and a half it's triple but yeah
37:50fighter pay
37:51yeah it's gonna be good do you pay fighters a fair wage absolutely people don't know how much a lot
37:58of
37:58these guys make if you want to know what lebron james makes it's two keystrokes away we're different in a
38:04lot of ways we're different than than most major sports and this is the only sport where the athletes
38:10get to say whatever they want another difference in most sports offensive speech by athletes can
38:16result in suspension not so the ufc we don't have to agree with it we don't have to like it
38:22is there
38:23anything a fighter can say tweet do that you say you know what there got to be consequences
38:30i'm a big believer in free speech and unfortunately probably the most important speech to protect is
38:37hate speech you're not a fan of cancel culture no i hate it on both sides it's like all the
38:43stuff
38:44that's going on with charlie right now uh you know these people are going out and saying stuff and you
38:50know you're seeing people getting fired or kicked out of school you don't you don't think they should
38:53be fired i think you're a disgusting human being if you're celebrating the death of another human being
38:58but people make mistakes and people are going to do dumb things i don't like trying to destroy
39:05people's lives um over doing something dumb so we're going to be here on the white house lawn
39:14top of mind for white a fight card next summer so the fighters will walk out of the oval office
39:19to
39:19come to the octagon the same man who once offered white a casino for staging the ufc now has offered
39:25his
39:26backyard what can you tell me about the card everybody wants to fight on the card there's
39:31going to be a fight on the south lawn of the white house way-ins at the lincoln memorial i
39:36still can't
39:37believe i'm saying those words even an optimist i can't believe i'm hearing them inspiring the awe
39:42this will hardly mark white's first trip to the halls of power at president trump's inauguration
39:48he got the equivalent of a cage side seat what do you say to the fans who say i feel
39:53like the ufc is
39:55taken aside i am an american citizen biden was my president trump is my president i was at the
40:02inauguration and i was sitting behind all the ex-presidents and there was this stuff going around
40:09like dana's mad dog and president obama president obama turned around the only president that did
40:17and shook my hand and said congratulations on all your success and i said thank you very much
40:22mr president that's what you were people wondered what you guys were talking about that's what happened
40:26i've never talked about that publicly if president obama called and said hey i'd like to come see a
40:31fight we'd be like yeah buy some tickets and good luck here whatever no the sitting president or
40:36or an ex-president of the united states wants to come to your event you treat them with respect
40:44meanwhile white's tent is expanding two weeks ago he promoted championship boxing under the ufc umbrella
40:51almost 71 000 people and it was the third biggest fight ever in the history of boxing you're saying it
40:57went well it didn't suck enjoy yourself tonight and have a good time after a big fight weekend most
41:04execs might give their staff a pat on the back relax drink and smoke some cigars have a good night
41:09white the bluntest instrument in all of sports threw his staff a weeknight bash we asked around about
41:17you one word came up again and again you know what it was loyal boom yeah got some detractors too
41:26you want to guess this one what bully bully yeah that makes sense you don't seem so bothered by that
41:32yeah i love it listen if you want to be my friend i'm the best friend you'll ever have you
41:38want to be
41:39my enemy i'm really good at being that too
