00:00:03Come with me next to me, to the right, forwards, and up, and hold, up, to the left, push, step
00:00:20forward with the right foot, forwards, and up, left knee up, left knee up, and hold, hands together, and bow.
00:00:36Previously on MyRenoRules, one of the country's youngest billionaires, Adrian Portelli, set out to make Australian TV history.
00:00:48His mission? To take two run-down Melbourne homes and turn them into spectacular showstoppers.
00:00:54And then, live on air, give two lucky Aussie families the chance to win them.
00:01:01You ready?
00:01:02Best Greek mates Frankie and Isaac, and parents Mitch and Shaz, took on House 2.
00:01:08While competitive couple Nathan and Julia, and Maltese firecrackers Emma and Michelle, took on House 1.
00:01:15Rush 1.
00:01:176, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, then Adrian had a surprise for Mitch and
00:01:29Shaz.
00:01:30The room that I thought was the best, $10,000.
00:01:34But he wasn't done splashing the cash.
00:01:37I've decided to up the prize money to a quarter of a million dollars.
00:01:44To be in contention, they had to impress our judges,
00:01:47led by design icon Neil Whittaker.
00:01:51This is super luxurious.
00:01:53I cannot believe it.
00:01:55For some, you made a kid's bedroom feel out market.
00:01:59High praise.
00:02:00But for others...
00:02:01If you think you're the underdogs, you'll be the underdogs.
00:02:05A few home truths.
00:02:07That whole wall and fireplace was just hideous.
00:02:12Tonight...
00:02:13You want to choose this week, we choose next week.
00:02:15The gloves are off.
00:02:17I'm not getting called hideous again.
00:02:19And the fight is on.
00:02:21We're doing this one in the study.
00:02:23The battle lines have been drawn.
00:02:25There's a fine line between cohesion and copying.
00:02:27And as a copying scandal brews...
00:02:29To me, those paints look exactly the same.
00:02:32I painted them both on my arm.
00:02:34It's almost like she thought we were copying her.
00:02:36And I didn't like that accusation.
00:02:38The pressure has only just begun.
00:02:53Self-proclaimed Maltese Terriers, Emma and Michelle, are still reeling from last night's judging.
00:03:00It just was a mess.
00:03:03Unfortunately, you let yourself down.
00:03:05That whole wall and fireplace was just hideous.
00:03:07Hideous.
00:03:08Hideous.
00:03:09You seem really down.
00:03:12I'm fine, not.
00:03:13Don't worry about me.
00:03:15And this week, there's even more pressure to get the right rooms to impress the judges.
00:03:21Let's really push for the kitchen.
00:03:25Like, I think we've probably got a little bit more style than them.
00:03:31Obviously not in the judges' eyes.
00:03:37I'm not looking forward to some conversations today.
00:03:41Because I'm nervous, obviously, the girls would be silly to not come and swing it.
00:03:47After a crucifixion?
00:03:49Is that a word?
00:03:51Yes, Julia, that is a word.
00:03:54One that doesn't apply to house two parents, Mitch and Shaz, who are still beaming after last night's win.
00:04:02My husband is better than everyone else is, and I will fight anyone that disagrees.
00:04:08Now they're keen to get back on site and find out what rooms are up for grabs this week.
00:04:14What do you reckon we're doing this week?
00:04:16I reckon it's the master level.
00:04:18Yeah, I reckon so, too.
00:04:21And you'd be right, guys.
00:04:26It's hard to believe, just over a week ago, house one and house two were just simple one-storey homes.
00:04:34So much has happened, eh?
00:04:35So much has happened, my God.
00:04:38But since then, we've gone up, up, up, creating massive three-level homes.
00:04:44With breathtaking new spaces that any Aussie family would love to win and call home.
00:04:50Oh, now we're talking.
00:04:57But with a quarter of a million dollars on the line, the battle over rooms has only just begun.
00:05:04Get ready for a showdown.
00:05:11That's a fighting stance, Frankie.
00:05:12I'm scared.
00:05:13Yeah, what is going on?
00:05:14Oh, sorry.
00:05:16This is my stance here.
00:05:17Let's have a look.
00:05:18All right.
00:05:18All right.
00:05:19Going into the room allocation chat, I think we need to be a bit more cautious now about what
00:05:23we're going to choose because you've got Mitch and Shaz.
00:05:26They're on top of the letter board.
00:05:27We're equal third.
00:05:28We need to redeem ourselves.
00:05:30You ready?
00:05:31Do the honours.
00:05:35Bang.
00:05:36Oh!
00:05:38Let's have a gaze.
00:05:40If our rival renovators thought last week's workload was big, they're in for a rude shock.
00:05:45As this week, we're levelling up to the brand new Parents' Retreat Level.
00:05:51One team will be tackling the entrance hall, walk-in robe and master bedroom, while the
00:05:58other team takes on the study, the en suite and Parents' Lounge.
00:06:03With so many rooms to renovate in just seven days, selecting the right spaces has never been
00:06:09more important.
00:06:11All right.
00:06:11I think I already know what I want.
00:06:14Okay.
00:06:14Nice.
00:06:15Getting a bedroom would be fantastic, so we can really just show them that we're not vanilla,
00:06:20we're more of a strawberry...
00:06:22We're better in the bedroom than what they think.
00:06:26We got criticised on our bedroom.
00:06:28Yeah.
00:06:28Okay?
00:06:29So, black and white, we think we should redeem ourselves with a bedroom.
00:06:36Well, this is probably perfect.
00:06:37This is perfect.
00:06:38We want to have a crack at a bathroom.
00:06:40Settled.
00:06:40I'll hug you.
00:06:41Well done.
00:06:42Well, that was nice and easy.
00:06:44Greek best mates Frankie and Isaac will be renovating the entrance hall, walk-in robe
00:06:49and master bedroom, while parents Mitch and Shaz work their magic on the study, the en suite
00:06:55and Parents' Lounge.
00:06:57With the budget talk wrapped up just as fast, it's a fair split.
00:07:02Well done.
00:07:06Now it's House One's turn, where Emma and Michelle, currently at the bottom of the leaderboard,
00:07:12are fired up and ready for a fight.
00:07:17We need wow factor rooms, and that means standing up for myself a little bit more and pushing
00:07:23a little bit more.
00:07:25Upstairs.
00:07:28In House One, the room split is the same as House Two, with one team taking on the
00:07:33entrance hall, walk-in robe and master bedroom, and the other team working on the study, the
00:07:39en suite and Parents' Lounge.
00:07:42Do you want to do an en suite, Mum, because you really want to get that bathroom?
00:07:45I kind of think that's fair if we do an en suite.
00:07:48This week?
00:07:49We really wanted to do a lounge, because we didn't do one last week, so that's where
00:07:52this gets hard, because obviously they're grouped.
00:07:56We would really like the Parents' Lounge, because we haven't done a lounge space before,
00:07:59and understandably the girls really want an en suite, because they haven't done a bathroom
00:08:02yet.
00:08:02Unfortunately, they're grouped together, which means we both can't have what we want.
00:08:07I'm going to bank on knowing we can up the ante and get our points back up with the en
00:08:11suite,
00:08:11Parents' Lounge, and the study.
00:08:15We've literally got no good comments.
00:08:17We didn't.
00:08:18We're at the bottom of the...
00:08:19I'm not getting called hideous again.
00:08:20I'm not getting called cut-copy.
00:08:21I'm not getting called boring.
00:08:24One of us is going to have to compromise.
00:08:25At the end of the day, you've got to think about the entire game we're playing, so we've
00:08:28just got to do what we've got to do.
00:08:30We all know that the master bedroom walk-in rope and the entrance hall is the worst of
00:08:34the two areas, right?
00:08:35So if you want this space, you want your en suite, we're picking next week.
00:08:40We want the kitchen.
00:08:47If you want to try and be at any sort of advantage in this game, you want to be playing
00:08:51in the
00:08:51kitchen, so we've just got to do what we've got to do to secure it now.
00:08:54But how is that fair on us?
00:08:56Just so we're clear, you guys have the first option.
00:08:59You didn't want the bathroom last week.
00:09:00You chose your living room, and this week we're giving you the option.
00:09:02You choose, then we choose, which means we choose once out of the three times.
00:09:06So that's us putting our foot down, saying we're getting a choice in this game.
00:09:10If you want this en suite, you're not having the kitchen.
00:09:14Day one away from the kids, day three away from the kids, day five away from the kids,
00:09:17the longer it goes, the harder it gets, the more we realise how much we've given up to
00:09:22be here.
00:09:23And that just really kicks us into overdrive when it comes to getting our way.
00:09:27This is just one of those scenarios where it does definitely make sense to be strategic.
00:09:31You want to choose this week, we choose next week.
00:09:37I mean, she's in it.
00:09:39She's playing smart.
00:09:40She's way smarter than us.
00:09:42Like, they're in it to win it.
00:09:44I just wish I had a little bit of Julia in me.
00:09:47Oh, my God, this is so hard.
00:09:50I can't decide.
00:09:52OK, well, then...
00:09:52I'm pretty decisive in making my choices, but not this.
00:09:56But time is ticking away, and the longer they spend arguing over their rooms,
00:10:01the less time they have to deliver their spaces this week.
00:10:05I'm going to stand my ground for Mum.
00:10:08We're going to do the ensuite and dominate to get back up.
00:10:11Yeah.
00:10:11And then that way, you guys 100% have the kitchen.
00:10:14Yeah.
00:10:15OK.
00:10:16She's a bloody good negotiator, I give her that.
00:10:19Like, I don't know, she must have played many years of Monopoly
00:10:22or friggin' something with her family,
00:10:24cos she just gets what she wants.
00:10:27Kitchen baby!
00:10:30Oh, no!
00:10:32Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:10:33After their long debate,
00:10:35it's finally been decided that competitive couple Nathan and Julia
00:10:39will renovate the entrance hall, walk-in robe and master bedroom,
00:10:44while Maltese firecrackers Emma and Michelle
00:10:46have chosen to take on the study, the ensuite and parents' lounge.
00:10:51We can only hope that budget negotiations go a lot smoother.
00:10:56OK, I think the only fair thing to do is split it.
00:10:59Are you kidding yourself?
00:11:01Look at the size of our zone!
00:11:06I want to promise you guys that we are open book as were last week.
00:11:10You need cashier, bang.
00:11:11You need cashier, bang.
00:11:13I'm definitely nervous knowing that we have got a substantially bigger area,
00:11:17a substantially bigger zone.
00:11:18And if they come just shy of their budget,
00:11:21I doubt that there's going to be room there for them to give to us.
00:11:25But the allocation of rooms took a long time,
00:11:28so we really need to get started.
00:11:31With Builder Harley already outside waiting to begin...
00:11:35Oh, you f***!
00:11:37It's been hard at work when you don't know what you're doing.
00:11:39..the teams are losing precious renovation time.
00:11:43We've... Honestly, it's gone forever.
00:11:45They're going to get tiles in.
00:11:46Let's just... Now we're going to roll.
00:11:47So split that.
00:11:48Divide two.
00:11:49We're going to roll.
00:11:51All right.
00:11:52In the end, the teams have agreed to split the money evenly for now
00:11:57and revisit the issue later if they need to.
00:12:02Now with a massive $250,000 up for grabs,
00:12:07both teams need to come up with some spectacular ideas.
00:12:11And fast.
00:12:12First up, Nathan and Julia dive into their master bedroom.
00:12:19Wow!
00:12:20Wow!
00:12:21What am I looking at?
00:12:22Wow!
00:12:23I don't even think we can afford to ask about curves, to be honest.
00:12:27Do we just colour drench this room?
00:12:29And Julia's hit on an idea to blow everyone's mind.
00:12:34I have an amazing idea.
00:12:36What is that?
00:12:38We put a bar in there.
00:12:41This is our game changer.
00:12:43That's cool.
00:12:44Nathan and Julia's vision for the master bedroom centres on the creation of a bar space built
00:12:50into the wall between the walk-in robe and the en suite.
00:12:54They'll install scalloped wood panels behind the bed and cover the walls in pink textured wallpaper.
00:13:01And to make the most impact, they'll dramatically colour-drench the room to match,
00:13:06covering the ceiling and the wood panelling in the same blush pink hue.
00:13:12Harley!
00:13:14Yep.
00:13:15I want to put, essentially, like, joinery here.
00:13:18Yep.
00:13:19And put a bar here.
00:13:21So I would like...
00:13:22Start again.
00:13:22Yeah, no, you heard me right.
00:13:24I think my brain just went...
00:13:27Yes.
00:13:27Because if you're living here and you want to get up in the morning and have a coffee,
00:13:30you have to go down three levels to have a coffee.
00:13:33If you want to have a drink while you're watching TV at night,
00:13:36you have to go three levels down to top up your glass.
00:13:39Um...
00:13:41This is why it's going to be important for all you guys to get me something just jotted scribbles.
00:13:46Yeah.
00:13:46Give me basic layouts, because I'm going to have to go work all this stuff out.
00:13:49I really hope the judges are able to see the bar that's in the master bedroom,
00:13:52you know, as a practicality thing, just as much as an aesthetic thing.
00:13:56Mark my words now.
00:13:57This is what...
00:13:58This is me, Adrian Portelli's favourite part.
00:14:00I'm telling you this right now.
00:14:01This has got me up and I've found!
00:14:10There's another beige.
00:14:12We have to go with what the judges have said wrong.
00:14:15And they said, beige, we're boring.
00:14:17This is not screaming wow factor.
00:14:20After sacrificing next week's kitchen to secure the en-suite this week,
00:14:25Emma and Michelle need to serve up their champagne taste on a Prosecco budget.
00:14:30It's time to get bold and creative.
00:14:34I'm nervous about getting ridiculed again about being boring and beige.
00:14:37That's my only...
00:14:38I love that combination.
00:14:42I don't know if it's bold enough.
00:14:44Yeah, we normally get things shipped from Italy and Turkey and...
00:14:49OK, well, it's not this week, babe.
00:14:51Do you want to do a black bathroom?
00:14:55Black.
00:14:56Like, more glam and, like, impact and wow rather than that.
00:15:02I want to be brave and I know I should...
00:15:05Well, let's just do it.
00:15:05This is a bold choice.
00:15:07Mum and I had to make a bold and brave choice.
00:15:10There was no doubt about it.
00:15:11We can't be beige and boring.
00:15:13Feisty Maltese Terriers, Emma and Michelle's vision for a dark, sexy en-suite
00:15:18includes a large double vanity with cabinetry built into the wall cavity
00:15:22and creating luxurious his-and-her showers between two symmetrical nib walls
00:15:27covered in slate-coloured tiles.
00:15:30I do not want a shower screen.
00:15:32That's a good no-go.
00:15:33Yeah.
00:15:33I don't want any dirty glass.
00:15:35That's all right.
00:15:36That's our clean freakness coming in.
00:15:37I feel like what we fought so hard for those rooms
00:15:41is so much pressure on ourselves
00:15:44that we have to do these rooms justice.
00:15:47To complete their vision and keep the en-suite symmetrical,
00:15:51they'll need to move the en-suite doorway to line up with the shower opening,
00:15:55which will reduce the amount of wall space Julia has
00:15:58for her master bedroom bar.
00:16:01With competing plans,
00:16:02it looks like there's a showdown on the horizon.
00:16:07I've overheard the girls talking about moving the door.
00:16:09We can't lose that, not in this space.
00:16:11Otherwise, you're going to put us on the bottom of the leaderboard.
00:16:14We're centre-centre, walking through the centre,
00:16:17still walking through the centre, straight into the shower.
00:16:19Yeah.
00:16:19That works way better.
00:16:20And then we've got a toilet and then a long vanity still.
00:16:23I just would like this opening.
00:16:26600.
00:16:26I can't have this wall move.
00:16:28I want to use the full width of the wall.
00:16:31OK, well, we've got an issue.
00:16:33It's a symmetry situation.
00:16:36Who's centring the door?
00:16:38So as you look through the open of the shower,
00:16:41and you're seeing our feature at the back,
00:16:45the judges are going to notice it.
00:16:47Do you think the judges will notice if my room only has a bed in it?
00:16:50Because at the moment, that's all I can put in there.
00:16:52I don't have space for a chair because of where the doors are.
00:16:54I don't have space for a plant.
00:16:55I don't have space for anything other than a buffet in this space.
00:16:58Because honestly, nothing matters to me right now except for that door.
00:17:01And even if I...
00:17:03But I still think the door's got to move.
00:17:06I feel that, you know, we've sacrificed the kitchen for the bathroom.
00:17:10We need to make the bathroom wow factor.
00:17:13That includes putting the door where we want the door to be.
00:17:17I really don't want Julia dictating to us where the door should go.
00:17:23That's got to be right.
00:17:24That's set in concrete.
00:17:37We're standing up to Julia.
00:17:38We chose to move the door.
00:17:40This is what we're doing, and we're not backing down.
00:17:43So you could potentially get something, say, a $1,200 in there.
00:17:47Obviously, cost per meeting.
00:17:48And then you're building that out.
00:17:50This would then move over, yeah?
00:17:52Yeah.
00:17:54All right, so door, yep, done.
00:17:55Door.
00:17:56Yep.
00:17:56Let's move the door there.
00:17:58All right.
00:17:59There's $250,000 on the line.
00:18:01Everything is even harder this week.
00:18:03Yeah, we're going to have to sort of pull a rabbit out of the hat.
00:18:07Coming up, it's manpower versus the Melbourne weather.
00:18:13It's crazy out here.
00:18:15As the teams take aim.
00:18:17Houston, we've got a problem.
00:18:19They're giving away $250,000.
00:18:21Do you think it was going to be a walk in the park?
00:18:24A surprise house guest.
00:18:26Oh, Neil!
00:18:27Whoa!
00:18:28Everyone's coming.
00:18:29Throws the houses into chaos.
00:18:31I'm worried about you creating an en suite that feels like a tomb.
00:18:35I felt I went into a tomb.
00:18:37And the war of house one turns dirty.
00:18:40Are you and Emma and Michelle talking to each other?
00:18:43We are, yes.
00:18:44No, we don't need to tell a deal or anything.
00:18:46So she's upset, that's why.
00:18:47But we're not going to, like, feed into it.
00:18:49Come out the front, please.
00:18:50I need you to come out the front now, babe.
00:18:51No, I'm just staying calm.
00:18:54The last thing I want to do is underwhelm the judges.
00:18:56If they're going to feel like that, then let's just one-up them.
00:19:12It's dawn on a new day in Bulleen, Melbourne.
00:19:15And house two's Frankie and Isaac and Mitch and Chaz are feeling good.
00:19:20Hey, how are you?
00:19:20How are you, mate?
00:19:21Yeah, how are you?
00:19:22Wonderful.
00:19:24Can you smell me from here?
00:19:26Yeah, it's no success.
00:19:28Yeah, it's good.
00:19:34This week, all eyes are on competition leaders Mitch and Chaz,
00:19:38who won a whopping bonus $10,000 to spread around their rooms.
00:19:42But it's also put a big target on their backs.
00:19:45I think this week will be harder and the judging will be even closer,
00:19:49purely because we won both things last week.
00:19:53We won the $10,000 and we won the judging.
00:19:56I know that if I was one of the other three couples,
00:19:58I'd be like, you're on.
00:20:00This week, Mitch and Chaz are taking on the study,
00:20:03the en suite and parents' lounge.
00:20:06And they already have some big plans to cement their front-runner status,
00:20:10starting with their en suite.
00:20:13So we're thinking, obviously, doing this wall, it's square.
00:20:16Yeah.
00:20:17Then it curves.
00:20:18And because we're sort of putting the vanity in
00:20:20and building that curve into it, it'll look built in.
00:20:22Yeah.
00:20:24Master en suite.
00:20:25We want it to be a little bit more grown-up and luxurious
00:20:28and throw some curves in there again,
00:20:30because everyone loves some curves.
00:20:32The room that has them the most excited is the large parents' lounge,
00:20:35where the bulk of their time and money will be spent,
00:20:39including their $10,000 bonus.
00:20:41But they'll need to check in with Chief Carpenter Jack
00:20:44to make sure it's all possible.
00:20:46We're going to blow our money on this,
00:20:50do another plinth,
00:20:52and then do this curved thing on top of it to mount ATV.
00:20:56So another bench seat?
00:20:57Yeah.
00:20:58It'll be about the same height as a coffee table,
00:21:00and then we do the curve the same as we did on that wall.
00:21:04To create the ultimate grown-up retreat,
00:21:06they have two luxury features in mind.
00:21:09First, they're building a marble plinth
00:21:11that will run the full length of the room,
00:21:14topped with a curved wall for their mounted TV
00:21:16in front of a comfy sofa.
00:21:19Then they're spending big on wood panelling for the roof
00:21:22to create a vaulted timber ceiling.
00:21:26The ceiling is risky.
00:21:28There's a lot to go on, a lot of trades.
00:21:30It's just time-consuming.
00:21:32I reckon we're going to need every single last builder
00:21:35to get this thing across the line.
00:21:37Thanks, Jack.
00:21:38Let's see if we can win again.
00:21:39Yeah.
00:21:40Cheers, mate.
00:21:41For what they want to do, there's a lot to do.
00:21:43While I'm feeling nervous,
00:21:44they may have too much to do in the short period of time.
00:21:48We'll have to see how they go.
00:21:49And knowing Mitch and Chas,
00:21:51I'm sure they've got grand plans for their third room,
00:21:53the study as well.
00:21:56Right, guys?
00:21:58Yes.
00:22:02The study got forgotten today.
00:22:04Yeah, it's the forgotten child.
00:22:06I don't really know what we're going to do,
00:22:08but that's a tonight problem.
00:22:11We'll think about that.
00:22:13All right, let's go.
00:22:15We've got to do electrical with Matisse.
00:22:18Yeah.
00:22:20Just open up this area a bit more.
00:22:22Just want a grand entrance, not a pokey little entrance.
00:22:25Yeah, I like it.
00:22:27Downstairs, best friends Frankie and Isaac are fired up
00:22:30and determined to move up from the bottom of the leaderboard
00:22:33and shake off their underdog status.
00:22:36This week is all about risks.
00:22:38We're living with that rule of we're jumping.
00:22:41We're going to take that risk.
00:22:43We have to.
00:22:43Especially after the feedback that we got being vanilla,
00:22:46because right now vanilla's not cutting it.
00:22:49Frankie and Isaac have the most space to complete this week
00:22:52with the entrance hall, walk-in robe and master bedroom.
00:22:56It's a lot to do.
00:22:57I think we're feeling a bit of pressure with the rooms that we have.
00:23:01Frankie and I really have to use our minds
00:23:03to do big things to impress the judges.
00:23:05And that means packing their small walk-in robe
00:23:08with some big surprises.
00:23:10When you walk in, it just looks like cabinets and cabinets,
00:23:13and all of a sudden you're like,
00:23:14where's the bathroom?
00:23:16Cabinet doors open, and that's the bathroom.
00:23:18Yeah.
00:23:19So there are two swinging doors opening out.
00:23:23Two joinery doors.
00:23:23Pretend you're opening a cupboard.
00:23:26The boys are planning on lining the walls
00:23:28with double-sided cabinetry,
00:23:30including a built-in make-up desk.
00:23:33And they've decided to disguise the entry to the en-suite
00:23:36by making it a seamless part of their joinery.
00:23:41We want narnier doors.
00:23:42You open it?
00:23:43Wow, en-suite.
00:23:44Yes.
00:23:45That's what we were thinking for you guys.
00:23:46We're just shooting our shot,
00:23:47and I seriously think,
00:23:49even just in the walk-in wardrobe itself,
00:23:51those hidden doors,
00:23:52I think that's a real standout.
00:23:54When someone walks in,
00:23:55they're like, what the hell?
00:23:56Like, what, this is narnier,
00:23:57this goes into a butt-out en-suite.
00:23:58And I got shot on by a bird today,
00:24:00so I think that's good luck.
00:24:01Yeah.
00:24:03But big plans come with big price tags.
00:24:06This is very expensive, so budget.
00:24:08I'll do the budgeting.
00:24:09I'll go wash cars on the street.
00:24:10You wash cars on the street,
00:24:11make sure you take your top off
00:24:12and your pants off as well.
00:24:14Topless in my speedos.
00:24:15A little budgie smugglers.
00:24:16Speedos, yeah.
00:24:16And do these ones on the highway.
00:24:18You know what, bro?
00:24:21Look at Mario.
00:24:23You're a number one fan, Mario.
00:24:24That's right, Mario.
00:24:25You want a ticket to the concert?
00:24:26I'm in, mate, I'm in.
00:24:31I'm in.
00:24:33Oh, yeah.
00:24:36Oh, yeah.
00:24:40Beautiful.
00:24:44More beautiful.
00:24:47Oh, oh.
00:24:48Oh, yeah.
00:24:54Meanwhile, the House 1 teams have hit the road
00:24:57to splash the cash,
00:24:59excited about their own grand designs.
00:25:04Oh, wow, there's a lot.
00:25:05There's heaps.
00:25:07Emma and Michelle are locking in their dark en-suite design
00:25:10that is...
00:25:11Well, how would you describe it, Emma?
00:25:13I'm going bold.
00:25:15Iconic.
00:25:16Bold, bold, bold, bold, bold.
00:25:18Just go bold, bold, bold, bold.
00:25:21Go bold or go home.
00:25:22Yeah, more is more, as I've always said.
00:25:25I love that toilet.
00:25:26You get a black toilet.
00:25:28You get a black toilet.
00:25:29God, I'd laugh if you fell over.
00:25:34Iconic.
00:25:38Meanwhile, Julia now has to create her custom master bedroom bar
00:25:42on a tight budget
00:25:44since Emma and Michelle moved the door to their en-suite,
00:25:48giving her less wall space to work with.
00:25:50There's fire in the belly of everyone involved in this competition
00:25:53and we can understand why the girls have come in so hard.
00:25:56But moving the door to the bathroom
00:25:57meant that the wall's smaller and we're really limited.
00:26:01I want to do a little bit of joinery in the master.
00:26:03I want to basically create a bar that's going to go in there,
00:26:06so I want to create just, like, a double or triple cupboard
00:26:08that'll have some stone on top.
00:26:10In the bedroom?
00:26:11In the bedroom, yeah.
00:26:12A bar in the bedroom?
00:26:13Yeah.
00:26:13I think from a design aspect,
00:26:15it's really important to have those key features
00:26:17in a space that's so tight.
00:26:19Putting a bar in the master bedroom
00:26:20is our number-one sort of game-changer
00:26:23and, you know, we think it'll elevate the space.
00:26:26Can we make it any smaller than 1,500?
00:26:28We can.
00:26:30I...
00:26:30Can we make it, like, nine?
00:26:32I'd like to utilise the most amount.
00:26:35It is a competition
00:26:36and it's important to have those stand-out features
00:26:39that are above the normal standard.
00:26:41Doing a bar in a bedroom is risky full stop.
00:26:43Yeah.
00:26:44We're really banking on this bar
00:26:45as being the game-changer in our room.
00:26:47There's no plan B.
00:26:49Thank you so much.
00:26:50All good.
00:26:51We were forced into moving the door to the bathroom.
00:26:53So now my plan is all about beating Emma and Michelle,
00:26:57no matter what.
00:26:58Bye, Felicia!
00:27:07We're in Bulleen, Melbourne,
00:27:09and with only five days left in this week's build,
00:27:12the pressure is already getting to Maltese Terriers' Emma and Michelle.
00:27:16Because they want cohesion through the house.
00:27:18Yeah, I know that.
00:27:19It's just...
00:27:19We already have enough stress with sorting our rooms out
00:27:22and then the other couple on top of it and trying to make it cohesive.
00:27:25It's just too much for me.
00:27:26This is a really stressful experience.
00:27:28Getting called a hideous room, it's just very hard.
00:27:31They're giving away $250,000.
00:27:33Do you think it was going to be a walk in the park?
00:27:35Yeah, it's just hard.
00:27:37We'll do it.
00:27:37We'll do it, sweetie.
00:27:40Overnight, Michelle dreamed up a new glam plan for their parents' lounge
00:27:44that she thinks will nail the competition to the wall.
00:27:50Carly, I just wanted to have a quick conversation
00:27:52before Nathan and Julia come up.
00:27:54Yeah.
00:27:55Is that all right?
00:27:55Yeah, that's all right.
00:27:56We've got cabinetry coming in here.
00:27:58I've got a good mark.
00:27:59Yeah.
00:27:59I want timber slashed walls.
00:28:03We need to wow them this week.
00:28:04I'll get it.
00:28:05Emma and Michelle are installing cabinetry for their television
00:28:08and adding a stone-top breakfast bar,
00:28:11sitting under the window to take in the city views.
00:28:14And despite the scathing comments about their feature wall last week,
00:28:18Michelle wants to try to create another one.
00:28:21Laying in bed, I think it was about maybe 10, 10.30 last night,
00:28:26I came up with an idea for timber slatted walls.
00:28:30They're quite easy to install.
00:28:32Well, I'm saying that.
00:28:34They look like they're easy.
00:28:35So we're thinking that...
00:28:36Well, what, is it like a timber look?
00:28:38Timber look.
00:28:39Yeah, OK.
00:28:40So Emma and Michelle obviously attempted a feature wall,
00:28:42which we'll call feature wall 1.0,
00:28:45which obviously didn't go down well with the judges in the end
00:28:48with how it was executed.
00:28:49And now we're at feature wall 2.0,
00:28:52which is some feature panelling,
00:28:55just liquid nails to the wall from me.
00:28:59That's going to take a couple of guys at least...
00:29:02That's at least an hour.
00:29:04I can do it.
00:29:05Oh, hallelujah!
00:29:09But I want to keep that quiet
00:29:12because it's an easy add-on for someone else.
00:29:16Morning!
00:29:17And I want that to be our little thing up our sleeve.
00:29:21OK, good luck.
00:29:23You don't need it.
00:29:27With the competition in full swing
00:29:29and the teams in serious design mode...
00:29:31How many quantities?
00:29:32I need one.
00:29:33I need two.
00:29:35Design guru and judge Neil Whittaker
00:29:38and the world's most expensive Uber driver, Adrian Portelli,
00:29:42are on their way to check in on Adrian's investment
00:29:45and give the teams the benefit
00:29:47of Neil's decades-long design expertise.
00:29:51I'm looking forward to it.
00:29:52How do I get out of this, though?
00:29:54Oh, yeah.
00:29:55If Neil can get out of the car, that is.
00:29:59Oh, there.
00:29:59Push up.
00:30:07That's incredible, isn't it?
00:30:08Look at the transformation already.
00:30:09It is incredible.
00:30:11Let's bring it on.
00:30:11Let's do it.
00:30:12Let's do it.
00:30:17Emma, Michelle.
00:30:18Oh, hello.
00:30:19Hello.
00:30:19I have a surprise for you.
00:30:21Hello.
00:30:22Mr. Winnaker.
00:30:24Hi.
00:30:25Oh, yeah.
00:30:25Go on.
00:30:26How long to see you both.
00:30:27How are you guys?
00:30:27How are you going?
00:30:28We're good.
00:30:29How are you?
00:30:30We've definitely gone bold and brave this week.
00:30:33We're not going boring and beige.
00:30:35Good.
00:30:36I would like to show you what we're doing in the parents' lounge.
00:30:40OK, so this is our space here.
00:30:42We couldn't believe the view.
00:30:44Now that we've gone up, it's amazing.
00:30:46It's beautiful.
00:30:47So I am learning this from Mum and Dad.
00:30:50Still after 40-something years, Dad will always make Mum a cup of tea and they'll have it in bed
00:30:54or at the breakfast bar.
00:30:55So we're making a little breakfast bar here.
00:30:58I love that idea.
00:31:00Me too.
00:31:01Do you know who also loves the idea of putting a bar in their room?
00:31:06Julia does.
00:31:10Tell me about today's colours then for the entree.
00:31:13We've got some samples here.
00:31:14So we're doing this on the floor.
00:31:16Nice.
00:31:17So we don't like shower screens.
00:31:19So I don't want to give away too much, but we're creating two nib walls here that that tile is
00:31:25going to continue up.
00:31:26You don't like shower screens?
00:31:28No.
00:31:29I don't like glass.
00:31:31I think it's dirty.
00:31:32I think it looks...
00:31:33Mm.
00:31:35OK.
00:31:37So you don't like shower screens, you're doing a nib wall with tiles.
00:31:41Correct.
00:31:44I feel like it might be a bit too dark for this space.
00:31:46A nib wall made out of this might feel a bit enclosed.
00:31:49I think so too.
00:31:50I'm not doing the shower screen.
00:31:53I don't like shower screens on the basis of usually, if you're not clean freaks like Mum and I, they're
00:31:58always dirty.
00:31:59They always have watermarks.
00:32:00They're just tacky looking.
00:32:02I'm worried about you creating an ensuite that feels a little bit like a tube.
00:32:08OK.
00:32:09Yeah, I'm not saying don't do it, but I'm saying you are taking a risk.
00:32:13Neil said it looked like a tomb.
00:32:15I felt I went into a tomb.
00:32:17Like, I was like, my mouth's dry, I was like, my heart's sung, I'm like, we're up Schitt's Creek, really.
00:32:25Think about the main bedroom that Nathan and Julia are creating.
00:32:30Continuity, cohesion is key to this entire renovation.
00:32:33Correct.
00:32:34If ever there were two rooms that had to talk to each other, it's the main bedroom and the ensuite.
00:32:37It's like bacon and eggs, you know?
00:32:39They've got to go together.
00:32:40Bacon and eggs?
00:32:42Yeah, I think these two rooms would be more burnt toast and bubble gum.
00:32:46Oh my God, this was meant to be our wow factor bathroom.
00:32:50Have we just shot ourselves in the foot?
00:32:52Houston, we've got a problem.
00:32:54Fingers across that we can do some lighter tiles and get more in time around.
00:33:00We have enough tiles as well.
00:33:02We need enough tiles.
00:33:04F*** up.
00:33:05You need me to f*** talk as well.
00:33:07Please, I'll be so we'll f*** up.
00:33:09Okay, then you'll f*** up.
00:33:10Yeah.
00:33:10But with no more budget for tiles, the girls are scrambling for options.
00:33:15Oh my God, do you know this is being filmed?
00:33:17We're probably going to hear this on national TV, so good luck.
00:33:20While Emma and Michelle argue about who's talking over the top of who, inside...
00:33:25Welcome.
00:33:26This is the master bedroom.
00:33:27Nathan and Julia are showing off their design ideas for the master bedroom.
00:33:32So plan in here, we have a linen wallpaper going on.
00:33:37What colour?
00:33:39Blush pink. Very...
00:33:40Oh, here we are. Yeah.
00:33:42Nice.
00:33:43Yeah, we do have one big thing we're putting in this room, which I think will go either which way
00:33:47with the judges.
00:33:48This space, it's used by Mum and Dad, and we're two levels away from the kitchen.
00:33:53So the big thing we decided to do is in this space,
00:33:56but we're going to put in a bar.
00:34:01So the bar will function as a spot to make coffee in the morning.
00:34:04Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on.
00:34:06Let me stop you there.
00:34:08I don't disagree with what you're suggesting in terms of the bar.
00:34:12The practicality of it, yeah.
00:34:13But, are you and Emma and Michelle talking to each other?
00:34:20We are, yes.
00:34:22Are you really?
00:34:28I think you really need to sit down and talk to each other, because I think there could potentially be
00:34:34some doubling up.
00:34:37Emma and Michelle already knew we wanted to do the bar in the bedroom.
00:34:40So you've got to be really careful.
00:34:42You say you're all talking to each other, but if that's happening, then somebody's not listening.
00:34:56With only five days left before our designer duos deliver their finished rooms.
00:35:01This week, Frankie and Isaac, the self-proclaimed underdogs, are responsible for the entry hall, walk-in robe and master
00:35:09bedroom.
00:35:10While parents, Mitch and Shaz, have got the study, the ensuite and parents' lounge to complete.
00:35:18And with so much to do, Frankie is, erm, hard at work?
00:35:26Oh my God.
00:35:28Sorry Frankie, there's just too much work to do.
00:35:32We've got skylights upstairs.
00:35:34We've got walk-in robe as well for myself and Isaac.
00:35:37And I've got my en-suite.
00:35:39And your en-suite, yeah.
00:35:41You can work with that.
00:35:42Yeah, yeah, we can do that.
00:35:43You'll flood the whole lot.
00:35:44Yeah, so you want that.
00:35:45With so many rooms to cover, the pressure is on to get every detail just right.
00:35:51Luckily, Adrian Portelli has brought Judge Neil Whittaker to help with his expert opinion.
00:35:56Knock, knock.
00:35:58Chance.
00:35:59Quiet, Neil too!
00:36:01Hey!
00:36:02How are you, mate?
00:36:05I brought a little...
00:36:06I thought I'd bring in The Godfather right here.
00:36:09In your space.
00:36:10I'm more than happy to be part of Neil's mafia.
00:36:12If he's The Godfather, I'm happy to be part of his mafia, I'll tell you that much.
00:36:15Oh my God, okay.
00:36:16I told the guys that they had to stop thinking of themselves as the underdogs.
00:36:20Yeah.
00:36:20Because that was going to weigh them down and slow them down.
00:36:23Yeah, he's not right.
00:36:23He's bringing out confidence a bit.
00:36:24Yeah, which was good in our rooms.
00:36:25It was a good confidence for us as well.
00:36:27So tell me what you're up to this week.
00:36:29So we have the entrance here where we're standing.
00:36:32We've got the master bedroom.
00:36:34We want to redeem ourselves on a bedroom.
00:36:35Yes.
00:36:36And the walk-in wardrobe.
00:36:37That's a big week.
00:36:39It is.
00:36:39It's huge.
00:36:40I have a mantra that has stood me well, alright?
00:36:43And it's, if in doubt, oversize.
00:36:45That's why I eat a lot.
00:36:47If you've got the space, go big.
00:36:50We need to impress Neil, the godfather himself, of style and design.
00:36:55You guys have got a great energy.
00:36:57You're fun to be around.
00:36:58Thanks.
00:36:58Just keep on with that through the renovation.
00:37:01No worries, we will, mate.
00:37:01Thank you very much for your time.
00:37:03As the godfather does.
00:37:04Thank you very much.
00:37:05Thank you, Frankie.
00:37:06God bless.
00:37:06Thank you, my son.
00:37:08Thank you, my son.
00:37:09We are part of Neil's mafia now.
00:37:11If he's the godfather, we're more than happy to be his runners.
00:37:14Thanks, Adrian.
00:37:16Alright.
00:37:17Alright, well, that's...
00:37:18We've got some things to do now.
00:37:19We've got some things to do now.
00:37:21It's time to step away from the underdogs and become the comeback kings.
00:37:25The time has come.
00:37:26With Neil's words to go big ringing in their ears...
00:37:29The joinery is going to be streamlined with this window.
00:37:33Frankie takes control of construction.
00:37:36A door can be shaved.
00:37:37And for once, he's not mucking around.
00:37:42If we don't listen to Neil, then all of a sudden,
00:37:44oh, the boys disrespected me, they didn't listen.
00:37:46There's no reason we can't go big and bold.
00:37:48While Frankie's being the boss inside, Isaac's taking on the judge's advice as he goes shopping.
00:37:55So, we're looking for big and bold in our rooms.
00:37:59Bold!
00:38:00I'm hoping that it's enough for Neil Whittaker.
00:38:04Neil Whittaker said that we are no longer underdogs, so this is our chance.
00:38:08This is perfect.
00:38:08This is our chance to grab it.
00:38:12It's a good watermelon.
00:38:14I'm getting more confident in my eye for design and trusting my gut a bit more.
00:38:18And making decisions that, you know, I probably would have been scared to make two weeks ago, a week ago.
00:38:23What would Neil Whittaker like?
00:38:25What would he smell like?
00:38:28That's Chris Brown.
00:38:29He's from Bondi.
00:38:30I have a very strong feeling that we can win this week,
00:38:34because of the rooms we have and the style we're going for.
00:38:37So, very excited for that.
00:38:39It's not big enough.
00:38:41It needs to be big.
00:38:42Big and bold.
00:38:45Like Frank and Mitch.
00:38:47Big and bold.
00:38:50Meanwhile, back on site.
00:38:52It's time for Adrian and Neil to drop in on reigning Renault champs Mitch and Shaz.
00:39:00Mitch, Shaz.
00:39:01Oh, Neil!
00:39:02Hello!
00:39:03Everyone's coming.
00:39:04What's going on?
00:39:05How are you, mate? Good to see you.
00:39:06It's a treat!
00:39:07I'll see you again, Neil.
00:39:08Hi, guys.
00:39:08Thought I'd bring my mate Neil to see what you guys are doing.
00:39:11Come see where we've spent all the money.
00:39:13I would love to see it.
00:39:14Oh, I'm excited for this one.
00:39:17So, first of all, a big ticket item.
00:39:20We are timber cladding our ceiling.
00:39:26Very, very retro.
00:39:28Would you say that's their hero?
00:39:30It could be.
00:39:31Look, I think these guys have got an understanding of aesthetic at the moment,
00:39:35so I'm interested to hear what else you're doing.
00:39:37We're going to be stone cladding this plinth here.
00:39:40Right.
00:39:41What does the stone cladding look like?
00:39:42Green veined marble.
00:39:44Oh, okay.
00:39:45And then on top, we've got the boys to build a curved wall, which will have our TV recessed into
00:39:52it.
00:39:52It's a lot.
00:39:55The advice I would give you at this stage is know when to pare back.
00:40:01Yep.
00:40:02I think I'm nervous about maybe doing too much.
00:40:05I always question what I'm doing, but we had great feedback last week,
00:40:09so I just need to be confident in that and trust my gut.
00:40:12Great to meet you both properly.
00:40:13Rock on, guys.
00:40:14Good work.
00:40:15Keep it up.
00:40:16Have a good one, guys.
00:40:17See you.
00:40:18We'll be fine, Dahl.
00:40:20I know we will.
00:40:20What could go wrong?
00:40:22But it's starting to look like Neil's advice to pare back has fallen on deaf ears.
00:40:28Dahl, this is the one.
00:40:30This one.
00:40:31It's way too big.
00:40:32No way.
00:40:33As Mitch and Shaz go on a shopping spree to decorate their rooms.
00:40:37Need that one.
00:40:38So this is the one I was telling you about.
00:40:39This is the OLED G series.
00:40:41Now you said you're going to wall mount it, and this is the one that everyone chooses
00:40:45because of the one-wall design.
00:40:47So it looks so thin, right?
00:40:49Yeah, that is tight.
00:40:50Where's the bracket?
00:40:51Beautiful.
00:40:51Okay?
00:40:51It's actually hidden inside the screen.
00:40:54That's cool.
00:40:55That means when you mount it, it's flush.
00:40:57There's no big gap, right?
00:40:59It's flush with the wall.
00:40:59That looks pretty darn good.
00:41:01I reckon it's a good size, good clarity.
00:41:04I think it'll work well in our space.
00:41:06It's going to look wicked.
00:41:10Mitch and Shaz aren't the only ones hitting the shops.
00:41:13House One's Julia is off to meet up with Emma to choose the flooring for their rooms.
00:41:19Seeing as the upstairs parents' lounge, master bedroom, walk-in robe and en suite all flow
00:41:24into each other, cohesion is the name of the game.
00:41:29Yes, obviously Neil's come through our space and pretty much ridden off our bar in the bedroom.
00:41:33I'd text Mr. Cabinets to see if we can cancel.
00:41:36I'm still waiting to hear back, but I'm not the person to sit there and let my emotions
00:41:40get the better of me.
00:41:41Neil made a comment about, you know, making sure that communication is really, really a
00:41:45big thing with the girls.
00:41:46How's the renovations going?
00:41:48It's going.
00:41:50So me and Emma came here today.
00:41:51We definitely need to be on the same page when it comes to the carpet.
00:41:55We find that carpet is still the most popular for bedrooms.
00:41:59This one is ours, is it not?
00:42:00Correct?
00:42:01Yep.
00:42:01Albino.
00:42:02The McCann colour Albino.
00:42:04We'll take that out.
00:42:04It's so nice.
00:42:05I'm really in love with it still.
00:42:07I'm just nervous with the black and white tiles.
00:42:09Just because our carpet will obviously touch the tile.
00:42:14The colours, yeah, they change in different lights.
00:42:17Why don't I just try one right at the window just to double check?
00:42:19Yeah, that's a bit cool.
00:42:20Just a bit more light.
00:42:21Yeah, it's much lighter.
00:42:23Yeah.
00:42:23Yeah.
00:42:25We'll do this in our bedroom as well.
00:42:27The only reason why I thought you were going to go timber is because you were going to
00:42:34do that bar.
00:42:35I have to take this call.
00:42:36Take it.
00:42:37Bar situation.
00:42:39And speaking of that bar situation, Mr. Cabinets is on the phone, replying to Julia's message
00:42:45to cancel the bar cabinetry.
00:42:48That would have already been cut, that bar.
00:42:50That got cut through the night, so we can't cancel it.
00:42:54Can I do it?
00:42:55Nah.
00:42:57I'm going to need a minute to call Nath.
00:42:58Yeah.
00:43:00It's frustrating.
00:43:01We've spent and wasted sort of a lot of time on the built-in bar, which we've paid
00:43:05for, but now we can't use it.
00:43:09I just heard back from Mr. Cabinets and we have to pay for it regardless if it's used
00:43:14or not.
00:43:16Right.
00:43:17Yeah.
00:43:17So he's going to build it regardless?
00:43:19It's already built.
00:43:19It was cut last night.
00:43:22Then let's just have it.
00:43:25You know, if we pivot, we don't have to make it a bar.
00:43:28It can just be a really cool unit.
00:43:29It still works.
00:43:31Mm.
00:43:34I think it might sound like we just didn't listen to Neil's advice when he came out.
00:43:39It's a competition, so you really want to make sure that there's something that makes
00:43:43you stand out.
00:43:44The last thing I want to do is underwhelm the judges.
00:43:46It's hard to know.
00:43:47I don't really know what we're going to do in that space now.
00:43:51And, like, I'm sitting here trying to decide on whether we had budget to buy a piece of,
00:43:54like, furniture.
00:43:56But it's ultimately going to cost us more money.
00:43:58I don't have any of these answers.
00:44:00Yeah, I just don't know whether or not we have enough budget to do something else.
00:44:04Okay.
00:44:05All right.
00:44:05All right.
00:44:06Love you.
00:44:06Bye.
00:44:07Bye.
00:44:07I can't do anything about it.
00:44:08I just don't know what we're going to do to fix this.
00:44:12Still to come.
00:44:13We're a danger of not finishing the room.
00:44:15Maybe we made it too bold.
00:44:17With the pressure climbing, both houses start to crack.
00:44:20Problems, problems, problems.
00:44:22And with Copygate blowing up, will the Maltese Terriers bite back?
00:44:27If she comes in a little bit heated, she's upset.
00:44:30There's a fine line between cohesion and copying.
00:44:32I wanted to do the bar.
00:44:33I can't do the bar.
00:44:34I wanted to do a cabinet.
00:44:35That's ridiculous.
00:44:36I can't deal with this shit.
00:44:38That choice the girls made impacts our ability to win this competition.
00:44:50With only four days to go till judging, the dark clouds are hanging over House One's competitive
00:44:55couple, Nathan and Julia.
00:44:58Currently sitting at number two on the leaderboard, Julia is worried about losing their place after
00:45:04she had to ditch her dream of a master bedroom bar to avoid clashing with Emma and Michelle's
00:45:09breakfast bar in their parents' lounge.
00:45:13But today, they have reason to smile.
00:45:19Oh, Venetian plaster.
00:45:21As their Venetian plasterers have arrived.
00:45:25I like the look of this.
00:45:27And Julia is very happy.
00:45:31My man.
00:45:32How are ya?
00:45:34See the big car with Venetian written on it?
00:45:36All Italians.
00:45:37Whole business Italian boys.
00:45:40Look at the size of these boys.
00:45:42Nathan and Julia have decided to add some sexy Venetian plaster to their entry hall to give
00:45:48it that extra chiselled wow factor.
00:45:50Painting a hallway seems a little bit mundane and boring.
00:45:53We want to give that wall a bit of texture.
00:45:56You're my men.
00:45:57You're my men.
00:46:02So you're going to be the man doing my Venetian plaster?
00:46:05Yeah, I gotta be.
00:46:05I try, yeah.
00:46:06My English is not a bad but it's good.
00:46:08That's totally fine.
00:46:09I don't need you to be good at English just so long as you're good at Venetian plaster.
00:46:11That's fine.
00:46:13A lot to do.
00:46:14One of us is feeling good.
00:46:15Yeah.
00:46:16Yeah.
00:46:17Orange, it suits you.
00:46:19Okay.
00:46:20Slow around.
00:46:23Nathan and Julia aren't the only ones working on their walls.
00:46:28Outside, Emma and Michelle have found a way to dodge more critiques for their bad painting
00:46:33by using wallpaper.
00:46:35Emma was never a wallpaper fan.
00:46:38Well, I converted her today.
00:46:40Tell me what you were thinking.
00:46:42Well, we're thinking of a wall in the study.
00:46:44Right.
00:46:44We're not painting, so it's a win-win.
00:46:46Yeah.
00:46:47And the more wallpaper we can do, the less tragic painting I have to do.
00:46:51I love that.
00:46:53So you can also...
00:46:54I love the colour of that.
00:46:56I think that's just keeping that.
00:46:58See, look at this.
00:46:59You can even add like a pinstripe into it.
00:47:02Have a look.
00:47:03Michelle's eye-catching wallpaper choice has also caught Julia's attention for a very different
00:47:09reason.
00:47:10Oh, you bought my sample!
00:47:12Just have a look.
00:47:13Yeah, that's the pink that you like.
00:47:14That's what we're doing in our room.
00:47:15Blush pink.
00:47:17Yeah.
00:47:17Oh my God, I just picked that for our wall.
00:47:19Oh, did you?
00:47:20Yeah.
00:47:21I seriously didn't say anything.
00:47:23I just went, that's what I love.
00:47:24So I love that we're on the same page.
00:47:25We are on the same page.
00:47:26I don't think we can do the same colour.
00:47:28No.
00:47:28It's almost like she thought we were copying her and I didn't like that accusation.
00:47:37I have no doubt at all, she knew what I had chosen.
00:47:40That didn't matter.
00:47:41Why can't we use this in the study?
00:47:43I know.
00:47:44I picked it.
00:47:45I didn't know.
00:47:46Yeah.
00:47:46Mum, I'm doing it.
00:47:48If they're going to feel like that, then let's just not one up them, but then let's
00:47:52be a little bit more creative so they feel that we aren't copying.
00:47:55Let's add a pinstripe.
00:47:57We're doing this one in the study.
00:47:59Yeah, we are.
00:48:00Yeah.
00:48:01We've come up with our own ideas, thank you.
00:48:03Babe, we added a pinstripe.
00:48:05I will tell Julia now, but I'm lucky.
00:48:07No, we don't need to tell Julia anything.
00:48:09Just do that.
00:48:11Okay.
00:48:11We didn't choose it for upstairs, so it doesn't really interfere.
00:48:14Affect your room.
00:48:14Yeah.
00:48:14Alright.
00:48:25So what we have here is a house being built.
00:48:28Three stories, a monstrosity, with momentum and magic.
00:48:38As Mitchell sweeps the room, slow and steady pace, making sure he gets the job done.
00:48:49Next door, in house two, it's full steam ahead.
00:48:53In Mitch and Shaz's small en-suite, the trades are packed in like sardines to get the work
00:48:58done.
00:48:59Oops, sorry, Morse.
00:49:00You alright, mate?
00:49:02The en-suite is going to be difficult, I think, which scares me a little bit.
00:49:07I've never done a bathroom.
00:49:08Okay, your Kit Kats is with a grey grout.
00:49:11So it's labour intensive.
00:49:14It's so labour intensive, they've put their neglected study on the back burner once again.
00:49:23Don't worry, I'm sure that definitely won't come back to bite them.
00:49:27I guess Mitch and Shaz are just too busy dealing with the arrival of their first big feature
00:49:32for their parents' lounge.
00:49:33The planks for their timber ceiling.
00:49:37It's here!
00:49:38Yes!
00:49:39I'm actually so nervous about it.
00:49:41It's definitely going to be tight to get it all done.
00:49:44Yeah.
00:49:45This timber ceiling, mate, this is definitely the most time-consuming component in this room for sure.
00:49:51And with all hands on deck to install their labour intensive roof, Mitch has to pitch in himself
00:49:57to keep things moving.
00:49:58I'm cutting it all for them just to help minimise that labour budget.
00:50:02So the boys will be up there in-store and they'll just be screaming measurements at me.
00:50:06Cut for them.
00:50:06Good!
00:50:09Can we get some more boards up here, please, mate?
00:50:11But Mitch and Shaz are using up all the available manpower.
00:50:14They're trying to help the other.
00:50:16Which means work on Frankie and Isaac's rooms has ground to a halt.
00:50:21I can't do anything.
00:50:25It's just annoying because Mitch and Shaz have had to build their roof.
00:50:30So they've used all the labour.
00:50:31Like, all the boys are installing their roof.
00:50:34So our parcel's not even finished.
00:50:35You can't do much about it, but just we're delayed.
00:50:39I'm a pretty positive, happy guy, but when I see trades are devoted
00:50:43and spending their time on other things for a long period of time
00:50:46and it's not fair on us.
00:50:48Honestly, like, it gets pretty frustrating
00:50:50because it's going to be a fair game too.
00:50:52We need to get trades. We need our work to be done as well.
00:50:54And that work includes their large master bedroom
00:50:57that has barely been touched.
00:51:01For their master bedroom, the boys plan to curve the wall
00:51:04to their walk-in robe, adding cabinetry
00:51:07and a statement art piece on the wall
00:51:09and top it off by installing a custom timber bed head
00:51:12under a bold, khaki-coloured wall.
00:51:19As long as we've got a bedroom to paint tonight.
00:51:21But that's it.
00:51:22It's shit.
00:51:22The whole night's just on one room.
00:51:24It's shit.
00:51:25They've got ten grand cash.
00:51:26They're on top of the leaderboard.
00:51:27We're equal third.
00:51:28So it feels very hard.
00:51:30Problems, problems, problems.
00:51:32Build a house, they said.
00:51:34It'll be fun, they said.
00:51:35Build a three-storey house.
00:51:37Isaac and Frank.
00:51:38No worries.
00:51:39We'll do it.
00:51:41You want a four-storey?
00:51:42Yeah, chuck another three days and we'll give you four-storey.
00:51:46I'll give you for real.
00:51:58There are just three days left till the team show their rooms to the judges.
00:52:03And Mitch and Shaz are turning their attention to styling.
00:52:09Emma looks like she can throw the shit out of her.
00:52:13Yeah.
00:52:14Even just her daily outfits, I'm like, yes.
00:52:17Look at me, I draw attention.
00:52:20God eyes on me, there's no one better.
00:52:23Look, look, look at me.
00:52:25Meanwhile, I look homeless.
00:52:27And my jacket's covered in paint.
00:52:29Well, it's a good thing you're renovating a home to give away then, Shaz.
00:52:33And it's definitely going to be another busy day in house two.
00:52:38There's going to be a lot happening up on site.
00:52:40There's so many deliveries.
00:52:43Our stone plinth for the parents' retreat is being delivered and installed today.
00:52:47It's going to be a busy day.
00:52:49Oh, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
00:52:51Great build, mate.
00:52:52Great build.
00:52:54With their big-ticket items in place in the parents' lounge and the en-suite well on its way,
00:53:00Mitch and Shaz's attention can finally turn to their final room,
00:53:04the long-neglected study.
00:53:07Yeah, like the study was the forgotten child.
00:53:09We were able to focus a little bit more on that to really knuckle down that design.
00:53:13Never once to take the easy option,
00:53:15Mitch and Shaz have come up with a controversial idea for their last room.
00:53:20What have you got there?
00:53:21There still will be a bedroom.
00:53:22Bedside tables.
00:53:23Oh, yeah, because you're turning it into a bedroom.
00:53:24I turn it into a bedroom.
00:53:25For me, it's too large of a house to only have three bedrooms,
00:53:28so we've converted it to four.
00:53:30Like a pre-teen boys' bedroom.
00:53:33Tall cabinet and then desk under the window.
00:53:35I think it's definitely a risk to do something completely different in that room,
00:53:38but we thought there would be more value in another bedroom.
00:53:43So, Mitch and Shaz's former study, now a fourth bedroom,
00:53:47will feature a stone-covered desk built into the cabinetry,
00:53:51a basketball hoop,
00:53:52and an eye-catching wallpaper-covered ceiling.
00:53:56We're kind of thinking of building Lenny's dream bedroom.
00:53:59Yeah, it would be inspired by Lenny.
00:54:01Oh, my God.
00:54:02You're doing something with these?
00:54:04Yep.
00:54:05Legend.
00:54:06We've had an idea, because it's a bedroom inspired for Lenny.
00:54:10Put the hang of these on the wall.
00:54:13I am missing Lenny a hell of a lot.
00:54:14I speak to him every night via FaceTime,
00:54:16but it's just not the same.
00:54:18100% we're doing it for him.
00:54:20Just going over the ceiling plan,
00:54:22I've been mulling on this all night.
00:54:24Why don't we put this piece up first here?
00:54:28Right?
00:54:28So that'll give us a bit of a look of it.
00:54:31Yep. Yep.
00:54:31Look and feel.
00:54:32The hero of the space will be the wallpaper ceiling.
00:54:36I feel like it's going to be divisive.
00:54:39They'll either love it or they'll hate it.
00:54:40There'll be no, like, eh, it's okay.
00:54:43It all comes down to what the judges feel
00:54:45about changing the study into a bedroom.
00:54:48Which scares me a little bit.
00:54:49So, we'll see how it goes.
00:54:51Yeah.
00:54:57Over in House One,
00:54:58Emma and Michelle's parents' lounge
00:55:00finally has its controversial breakfast bar installed.
00:55:05High fives all around.
00:55:07Good job, fellas.
00:55:10Oh, this looks so good.
00:55:17But the good vibes are short-lived,
00:55:20thanks to the arrival of their ensuite tiles.
00:55:22Because we changed our design,
00:55:26because, you know, it was going to look like a tomb,
00:55:29we panicked, changed them.
00:55:30I hope to goodness we've got enough.
00:55:33Harley's not panicking yet,
00:55:35because the tile has got enough.
00:55:36Which is a good thing.
00:55:37If you see him panicking,
00:55:38it's a whole different story.
00:55:40With no more money to buy extra tiles,
00:55:42Emma and Michelle must redesign on the fly,
00:55:45working with the limited tiles they've got.
00:55:47I'm really panicking, like, and this is what...
00:55:51We can't panic, Mum.
00:55:52I love you.
00:55:53Like, the dark...
00:55:54The darkness of it.
00:55:56Yes, we've got enough to do there,
00:55:57but that's all you've got.
00:55:59Well, why don't we do this situation,
00:56:02this whole panel here,
00:56:03and this panel here in black,
00:56:05so we go black, black, black,
00:56:07and then ivory, ivory, ivory.
00:56:09Emma's solution is to replace the slate-coloured tiles
00:56:11in the dark shower area with their excess beige tiles,
00:56:15while retaining the dark nib walls and floor.
00:56:18I think that's good.
00:56:20Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:56:20I think that's good too.
00:56:21We're just going to have to do that way
00:56:22and hope for the best.
00:56:25Your tile to the bottom first.
00:56:27As the tilers get to work,
00:56:29it's going to come down to the wire
00:56:30to see if they have enough lighter-coloured tiles
00:56:33to bring their tomb-like en-suite back from the dead.
00:56:36Just, it's hard to say that we can do all that we want to do.
00:56:42We're a danger of not finishing the room, yeah?
00:56:45So, yeah.
00:56:47I'm definitely scared about not finishing the room,
00:56:50and it's a lot to get done,
00:56:52and, you know, it's kind of a panic has set in a little bit.
00:56:55You were going to try and tile around the vanity?
00:57:00Yeah.
00:57:00To save on tiles,
00:57:02because we're worried we don't have enough.
00:57:06That's...
00:57:07So we've got...
00:57:08Hello.
00:57:08So we've only got one tile left over.
00:57:11We're going to be short on some tiles.
00:57:12We've got...
00:57:13Yeah.
00:57:14I think Michelle might be going into the bin
00:57:17to have him looking for some offcuts.
00:57:20I think we're going to go down to the last tile.
00:57:22We definitely don't have enough for this now, do we?
00:57:26No.
00:57:26No, okay.
00:57:26That's not happening.
00:57:27Yeah.
00:57:28All right.
00:57:29Yeah.
00:57:30It's...
00:57:31I'm not...
00:57:31I'm just staying calm,
00:57:33but, yeah, I'm a little bit...
00:57:35I'm a little bit worried.
00:57:36They cannot drop the tiles
00:57:38as they're putting them up on the wall,
00:57:41because then we have a very big problem.
00:57:43Yeah.
00:57:58With just two days left...
00:58:01Get up!
00:58:04All the teams are racing towards the deadline.
00:58:10In House 2, Mitch and Shaz's long-ignored study
00:58:13that they're converting into an extra bedroom
00:58:15is finally feeling the love.
00:58:18Love it.
00:58:18It's a great idea.
00:58:19I mean, it's definitely going to be a hit or miss,
00:58:21um, whether they do like this or not,
00:58:24but, I mean, I love it.
00:58:26Shaz loves it.
00:58:27Hopefully they love it too.
00:58:33Wish I painted this with all you today, man.
00:58:36Frankie and Isaac are currently equal last on the leaderboard,
00:58:40and they are way behind on their rooms this week.
00:58:43But now, after days of delays...
00:58:46Hello, walnut cabinetry.
00:58:49OK.
00:58:50..it looks like Frankie and Isaac have finally caught a break.
00:58:54Guess the tray's got a break from Shaz and Mitch.
00:58:57And now we can get our stuff in.
00:58:59Perfect!
00:59:00We've got cabinetry being put in today.
00:59:02We've got our custom-made bed head going in today.
00:59:05Which is very exciting.
00:59:07Oh, here we go.
00:59:08Got a lot of deliveries today.
00:59:10Yeah, buddy.
00:59:11So, it's a pretty hectic day.
00:59:13Oh, yes.
00:59:14That looks like an ice ball.
00:59:16We've got double-side walk-in wardrobe.
00:59:21Where's the bathroom?
00:59:24Ah, ha, ha!
00:59:27And we have a secret door going into our own suite.
00:59:29That's special.
00:59:31It feels like it's a week's worth of work in a day.
00:59:33So, we've got beds coming, rugs coming, carpet insulation today,
00:59:37skirts to touch up.
00:59:38We're still behind, but at the same time, I think we're gaining ground.
00:59:43It's a winning room, baby.
00:59:45Look at that.
00:59:48Over in House One, the rooms are progressing in leaps and bounds.
00:59:52With Nathan and Julia's entry hall taking shape.
00:59:55A walk-in.
00:59:57Chef's kiss.
00:59:58And cabinetry going into their walk-in robe.
01:00:01So cool.
01:00:03Gee, she's pink.
01:00:05The pink wallpaper is going up in their master bedroom.
01:00:08And the near-identical wallpaper going into Emma and Michelle's study.
01:00:12How are we going?
01:00:13Looking good.
01:00:15But while they manage to finish tiling their en-suite by the skin of their teeth,
01:00:19they've just discovered another problem.
01:00:22I do have a few concerns.
01:00:25Yeah.
01:00:25Like, do you think...
01:00:26Yes.
01:00:27It's matching the bedroom.
01:00:30Maybe we made it too bold.
01:00:34I'll admit that I'm a little bit worried about the cohesion with the bedroom and the en-suite.
01:00:39The bathroom's looking quite masculine, which is moody and sexy,
01:00:44but does it work in with the bedroom next door?
01:00:47I don't know.
01:00:50Looking at the pink wallpaper looks great, but does it work with the en-suite?
01:00:56I'm not sure.
01:00:57One of us is going to get judged harshly.
01:01:07Meanwhile, Julia is back on the road to get the all-important paint for their colour-drenched master bedroom.
01:01:14She's ordered a specific shade of pink, matched to her pink wallpaper,
01:01:18that she and Nathan will use to paint the ceiling and wood panelling,
01:01:22completing the room's on-trend colour-drenched look.
01:01:26But Emma has already beaten her to the store, and Julia is about to see red.
01:01:40I'm going to, um, light up.
01:01:42Ah.
01:01:44Are you off for anything at all?
01:01:45Well, I'm picking up.
01:01:46No, she's just following me.
01:01:49What are you here for?
01:01:50I'm picking up.
01:01:51Oh, you're picking up.
01:01:52Yep.
01:01:54Hey, Mum.
01:01:55Just confirming what Taubmans are we doing to match this.
01:01:59Oh, are you painting pink as well?
01:02:01What are you painting pink?
01:02:04I don't know.
01:02:04Whatever we're doing.
01:02:05I'm not sure.
01:02:07Are you doing the whole thing pink?
01:02:08The whole room?
01:02:09I don't know.
01:02:09Like, I will get reamed if I'm colour-drenching the same colour as you are.
01:02:12This is the study.
01:02:14I know, but I can't do the exact same thing.
01:02:16We're having the same wallpaper.
01:02:17I can't have the same colour.
01:02:18I've got no idea.
01:02:19He's got pink.
01:02:20Pink.
01:02:22I'm getting the exact same thing.
01:02:25I wanted to do the bar.
01:02:26I can't do the bar.
01:02:27I wanted to do a cabinet.
01:02:28That's ridiculous because we followed suit to you.
01:02:31But the point is, now I'm doing it all pink and it's like, that's what your guys are doing.
01:02:34I've got no idea.
01:02:35I've just been told to come collect the paint.
01:02:38Whatever.
01:02:39The only thing I'm taking is cohesion out of this.
01:02:42Cohesion and also like, oh, which one of you thought of this first?
01:02:44That's what I'm nervous about.
01:02:46There is no way I would go into another, the same paint store and, you know, have the energy of
01:02:54feeling like they've copied.
01:02:56There would not even be a thought in my mind.
01:02:58Maybe I'm a little bit silly in that way, but there is no way that that would be my first
01:03:02thought.
01:03:05Hey, look at me.
01:03:08me.
01:03:09Just got to the paint and ordered our paint.
01:03:12Emma and Michelle are using the same paint.
01:03:16I feel like now there's not any originality in anything we're doing.
01:03:21And no, thank you.
01:03:23No, um, but yeah, we went from having like a game changer in a few different spots to looking like
01:03:31we've just copied the girls.
01:03:43With less than 36 hours to go till judging, everyone at House One is racing to finish their rooms in
01:03:49time for the final night of painting.
01:03:57But Julia is on her way back to the house after the run in with Emma at the paint store
01:04:02and tensions are running high.
01:04:05I just was like, hey babe, I said, I'm just literally here to pick up paint.
01:04:08And she goes, oh, are you doing pink too?
01:04:10And I said, I don't even know.
01:04:12She's like, oh, I'm doing that too.
01:04:14I can't do the bar.
01:04:14I'm like, honestly, I just can't even build it.
01:04:20So she's upset, that's why, but we're not going to like feed into it because it's not our, we've chosen
01:04:25things and like, we didn't copy her.
01:04:28There was the bar conversation, there was the wallpaper conversation.
01:04:33We seriously chose what we wanted.
01:04:36We wanted the paint and oh my God, babe, we just had great taste.
01:04:40I just want to say, if she comes in a little bit heated, that's why.
01:04:43She thinks we've copied what she's done and that's not on.
01:04:48Yeah, it's offensive because like, I'm an interior designer, I'm not here to copy.
01:04:52I can't deal with a ship.
01:04:59We just need for what our paint is going to do.
01:05:01Well, we're just buying 15 layers.
01:05:03Yeah.
01:05:03We'll continue.
01:05:04Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:05:06We're out the front.
01:05:07Obviously, I walked in knowing that we had chosen the same wallpaper and we had, you know, similar things going
01:05:12on with our bars.
01:05:13And then I was surprised that the girls were doing the same paint color.
01:05:16And that's, that's bullshit.
01:05:18We've put everything we can into this master bedroom and really tried to stay quite unique.
01:05:23And now there's nothing to show for it.
01:05:25Yeah, pretty annoyed.
01:05:37Um, you did know that all of my room is pink though, yeah.
01:05:40You never told us you were doing all pink.
01:05:44How would we know that you were choosing pink?
01:05:46I've never ever heard that until I saw you at the paint shop.
01:05:49Well, because I said I was doing the pink on all the walls.
01:05:52We didn't know it was pink.
01:05:53We didn't know your stuff was pink.
01:05:54Nearly identical to my color.
01:05:58I'm just sitting here going, you know, we were trying to do a point of difference or make the master
01:06:02something different.
01:06:03And we're painting the same color.
01:06:05It's not, but not even the same color pink.
01:06:10Like I said, to me, those paints look exactly the same.
01:06:13No.
01:06:14I painted them both on my arm.
01:06:16I just feel like there's two pink rooms now.
01:06:18That's like we're copying each other.
01:06:20We are not copying.
01:06:21No.
01:06:22No.
01:06:22She came in hot with copying on a couple of things.
01:06:27The paint selection, the wallpaper, and even the bar now.
01:06:33Ours is not a bar.
01:06:34Ours is not a bar.
01:06:34Ours is a breakfast bar.
01:06:37Like, seriously.
01:06:39Definitely not copying.
01:06:40In my head, I've got so much to do.
01:06:43I just don't want to stand on the side of the street arguing with Julia, going back and forth.
01:06:49We've got shit to do.
01:06:51Let's just go and get it done.
01:06:55I'm just going to go out the front, guys.
01:06:56What was it, ran off?
01:06:57Five point.
01:06:58I just, I don't know.
01:06:59Can I just have one minute, please?
01:07:03I'm actually genuinely quite upset.
01:07:04This entire thing is just frustrating.
01:07:06There's the cabinet for the bar, which we've paid for, but we can't use.
01:07:10It's obviously the last thing we wanted to do was throw it out, but...
01:07:13In a competition of this scale, with the magnitude of the prize at the end of it, it sucks.
01:07:20Like, it absolutely sucks.
01:07:22All right, let's just have a moment for a bad idea.
01:07:27Look, I'm frustrated.
01:07:29It's out of our control and there's nothing else we can do to fix this.
01:07:32It's shit.
01:07:33It's really shit.
01:07:34I feel like that's a, uh...
01:07:36A major loss.
01:07:38I feel like we can't win.
01:07:40There's a fine line between cohesion and copying.
01:07:44That choice the girls made on that day impacts our ability to win this competition.
01:07:48They never knew this life-changing moment was coming.
01:07:54First place will now be competing for...
01:08:00One million dollars.
01:08:03What would you do for one million dollars?
01:08:07The stakes have never been higher.
01:08:09It's all out.
01:08:12We need to win.
01:08:14You thought you'd seen Power Jewels and Mace before.
01:08:17You haven't seen nothing yet.
01:08:19The gloves are off.
01:08:20We need to stop being so nice in this competition.
01:08:25It's a competition.
01:08:26There's a million dollars on the line.
01:08:28I know.
01:08:28We know that.
