00:00In an effort to clean the Adriatic Sea, divers have been collecting trash in the shallows around Croatia's Mijet Island.
00:07Reuters reports the island, which lies northwest of the popular tourist destination of Dubrovnik,
00:13acts like a natural dam for trash being carried by the current from south to north.
00:18Recently, a group of divers recovered more than a ton of trash from the area,
00:22which was categorized as they swam using bags of different colors.
00:26Most of it was glass and plastic, but divers also found car tires and wood and metal scraps in the
00:32crystal clear sea around the island.
00:35Scientists are looking to recover more data about the kind of trash that ends up in the Adriatic in order
00:41to design policies to reduce it.
