18:46Carl Anthony Towns has another triple-double in this series
19:51And lately he's become a defensive rebounding spark as well
19:54Really kind of changed his game just to get more minutes
19:57Well that's what you have to do especially as you get a little bit older
20:00As you get a little bit older yes he's an elite scorer former six man of the year but ultimately
20:06it's how do you get on the court and have a similar impact
20:08They've got scorers around them so it's the rebound it's the defense
20:12But Jordan Clarkson doesn't get enough credit and I think he's going to be more valuable as their season continues
20:17on
20:22And then he's going to be more valuable as their season continues on
20:43Alexander Walker fouls going to be called I think they're going to call a goaltend as well
20:47Yes he received his award for a most improved player
20:52So they do count the bucket
20:55You talk about a guy that has had a great season
21:00Career high in scoring career high in assists career high in rebounds and steals
21:05The Timberwolves
21:07loved him but because of
21:09salary cap restrictions they had a choice between signing
21:14Alexander Walker and Nas Reed and Reed obviously was an important part and they had some other guards and the
21:20Hawks
21:21Swooped in and signed Alexander Walker and in his seventh year the best year of his career
21:27He was just superb. You don't see too many guys bust through the ceiling of what you think a guy
21:33is
21:34Offensively the way that he did this year the defense has always been exceptional
21:38But that offense to kick that up to 20 a game and be that reliable as your second
21:45Scorer alongside Johnson really impressive
21:48He was a he was a role player in a defensive specialist with Minnesota the part of the team and
21:53an important part that went to back-to-back conference finals in the West
21:57Yeah, and what I like about is that his defense didn't really drop off still a very good defender
22:02And that's difficult to be an elite two-way defender and average 20 points a game
22:07Ariel hook 40 one of the Knicks off the bench with Shamit McBride
22:12Alvarado and Clarkson he got fouled
22:15So Huck 40 will go to the free throw line just a second-year player
22:19Of 40 from Germany Knicks picked him in the second round
22:24It's not been a regular part of the rotation, but occasionally he's had some some stretches where he started with
22:30Mitchell Robinson having some injury woes and
22:32a good defensive player Mike Brown always talks about he's got great feet for a big man to move defensively
22:41Meanwhile, how about Mike brown? What one of the impressive parts what he's done this year?
22:47Is not afraid to change things and not afraid to listen to suggestions from his coaching staff and from his
22:53players?
22:54Very difficult when a coach has been around for a while
22:57You know, they believe in certain things on both ends of the floor to adapt to your personnel
23:03the way that he has
23:05Offensively particularly the way he's taking advantage. I think in maximizing what he has on that end
23:10you got to give him a lot of credit because
23:13Most guys are going to dig in and they think they already know the best way to do things
23:18They're really great coaches have the ability to be able to change on the fly and it's certainly been better
23:22for the Knicks
23:25Okay, nice pass Kaminga with the finish
23:30The interesting to see the Hawks they they saw the good part of Kaminga and the inconsistent part will they
23:36sign him in the offseason?
23:38The team option on his contract of course he came in that deal that saw Chris stops for Zingas go
23:43to the Warriors
23:46Well, I think Kaminga fits in well with their style and what they're trying to do here
23:50Which is get out and run and get in the open floor, and that's truly when he's going to excel
23:56Alvarado a rainbow and it's been that kind of night for both the Knicks and for the Hawks
24:04As we wind down the third quarter
24:07Alvarado a midseason acquisition is coming and knocks it down. They've been so many
24:12Teams still alive in the playoffs so many players who were midseason acquisitions that were a huge part of them
24:19getting into the postseason
24:31Alvarado steps back tries another can't get it
24:33Huck poor eaton just grab there from Gabe Vincent
24:37Well, I will say this if you're going to Atlanta Hawks and you're going into your offseason
24:41They have to address they need some size
24:44They need some size, you know, I think you have defensive players you have your your star
24:50And Jalen Johnson tons of complimentary players around them
24:53But if you were to say one thing that this team needs and it was very evident in this Knicks
24:58series
24:58They need to add some size need to add some rebounding
25:01Well, John Landell who they acquired in in during the season. He had that
25:07badly high sprained ankle
25:10Against Orlando and had not played now obviously we're going to make it a difference in a game like tonight
25:15But he made a big difference and he was in need just like you spoke of Richard that they they
25:20had to have
25:22And he absolutely would have helped the Hawks
25:32Vincent flips it up shot and go well
25:34We have the largest lead after three quarters of an NBA playoff history to go along with the largest lead
25:39at halftime
25:41Of a game in NBA playoff history coming up next Nuggets and Timberwolves Julius Randle and Minnesota looking to advance
25:52First NBA championships known as the Willis Reed game. They defeated the Lakers at Madison Square Garden
25:59Reed limped out hit a couple of shots
26:01But it was wall Clyde Frazier 36 points 19 assists and
26:06And seven rebounds
26:08And the great Clyde Frazier is with Lisa's office. Thank you, Mike Clyde
26:13Which you're a broadcast partner Mike Breen was saying earlier. He's done a lot of playoff games. He's never seen
26:18a first half a game
26:20Dominated by a team like this. Have you ever seen anything like this? No, and Mike and I worked together
26:25like 30 years
26:26We never saw our game. I was in a game like this once in Portland
26:30Well, we lost maybe about 50 points, but that was a regular season game
26:35When you're a player in a game like this on the winning side or the losing side, what what are
26:40you feeling?
26:41Say you're getting beat say you're the Hawks. What are you feeling right now?
26:44Well the coach epitomize the host we said get out of my face go get drunk
26:49I don't care what you guys do take the day off because you know, it's an aberration
26:53So you you're better than that. So there's nothing the coach can say when that happens and when you're the
26:59Knicks
27:00I don't know is it silly to say do you feel bad about beating a team like this?
27:04No, what you're seeing now is the epitome of lack of playoff experience
27:09The Hawks were there. They had the Knicks, right? They were up to one
27:12They had the game at home and they blew that game. That was the pivotal game
27:16So the Knicks have used their
27:18Experience and their talent and they've taken control of the series
27:21What if what has made the Knicks look just so dominant tonight?
27:25Well, they've gotten better cat. They're starting going through cat and not living relying on Brunson so much and
27:32OG has been magnificent
27:33I mean, he's really taking over and bridges is also playing well tonight, but their defense has been riveting
27:39The Hawks have not been able to get uncontested shots. Yeah, and you touched on it
27:43Their coaches actually said it was in game for the defensive adjustments that the Knicks made engage game for really
27:49kind of took the spirit
27:50Away from this Hawks team. Just what did you see their lack in leadership?
27:56You know the first two games three games it was CJ
27:59He was stepping up and then after that CJ hasn't been on on target, you know
28:05So they've been struggling with finding leadership and what that's happened with the Knicks
28:10Brunson that stepped up cat has stepped up
28:13OG has stepped up so they've got all these players playing well now if you were part of this team
28:19What would you say to this Hawks team when you see him in the locker room post game?
28:23Good job, you know, you did the best you could you had a good season and
28:28You know, just work on your weakness next year
28:30And they will be better next year. We saw this last year with the Pistons
28:34The Pistons also had us, you know when they went to Detroit
28:39They knew what but they didn't know how
28:41So that's what they were the Hawks are this year lacking that experience. So next year they're going to be
28:46better now for the Knicks
28:48Sixers or Celtics would be next with the way they're playing with the way they play tonight
28:52Which team would you prefer them to see?
28:54well
28:56Just pick your poison. I like the Celtics
28:59I think we can match up well with them
29:01The Knicks have to deny them trend them in transition
29:05And right now the way they're playing I like I think they can do it whereas mb always gives us
29:09trouble and
29:11Obviously the guards that the Sixers have as well
29:13So I like the matchup with the Celtics
29:16Clyde, I really appreciate you taking the time the great Clyde Frazier Mike. Thank you, Lisa
29:21He's 81 who sounds like he's 51
29:24Looks about the same. He hasn't aged in years hall of fame as a player hall of fame as a
29:29broadcaster
29:30He was on the very last
29:33championship team for the Knicks way back in 1973
29:37Did you call that series Mike?
29:39I was just a young lad
29:4225
29:44O'Connor
29:45Cannot get it to go
30:15Tyler
30:17At the table
30:18And look, I think just you wanted
30:20Particularly I think Jalen Johnson to be able to feel some positivity in the way he's playing
30:27Offensively, it is going to be difficult one to forget for all of these guys
30:32And I think it's the kind of thing that'll make Jalen Johnson better player down the road and taking them
30:37out one at a time
30:38The star players
30:39They get and again
30:41I'm sure the Hawks fans not in the mood for an ovation but
30:44A well-deserved ovation for what a great season they had obviously ends in the worst possible way
30:50But it really was a terrific season for these Hawks
30:53It was and they do deserve an ovation the way they rallied the second half of the season the defense
30:58Picking up coming up making major trades
31:00Trey young had been the face of this franchise since he was drafted
31:05So for them to make the changes that they did to perform the way they did at the end of
31:10the season
31:10These guys do deserve an applause
31:13RJ what you said is important. They didn't just change personnel. They changed the face of their franchise and their
31:19entire identity
31:20Since Trey young came to atlanta. That's that's a lot to process on the fly
31:26If despite it, they came together
31:28C.J. McCollum has given them great veteran leadership at the point guard position
31:33And as I said, they closed the season 26 and 11
31:37Their general manager on C. Soleil
31:40Did an excellent job for all those changes
31:44And a lot of young players and most of them under contract
31:49The McCollum addition was important. I'm a column obviously an older veteran
31:52But a key guy to help learn and there is the general manager
31:58He's worked in a bunch of different places and now this is his second year
32:02And in charge of the operation here
32:06And I feel like look they I think c.j. McCollum
32:09I won't say he raised his value
32:11I think he would just put on a main stage and did what c.j. normally does in these moments
32:16He is definitely a person that the atlanta hawks have prioritized in my opinion on bringing back the veteran leadership
32:23the passing
32:23Just a calming presence
32:26Janet the awara the awara
32:28That one in and out
32:31Keaton wallace the older brother of the case in wallace
32:35Kispert
32:36connects on the three-pointer
32:39So now one of the time quinn snyder taking out his starters mike brown has done that already still eight
32:44and a half minutes to go
32:45Sohan nice move so him nicks picked up after the spurs let him go
32:52Mike brown has loved his defensive prowess
32:56Could get some spot duty not in the rotation now. Do you are as the interesting player for this team?
33:02Rookie from france shot it knocks it down
33:06That's a connection right there deal lara to shaman to both guys that played very well for the knicks this
33:12year
33:12And shaman guy that had such an outstanding season and then an injury
33:17Changed things up for him at the end of the year and the return of miles Mcgride
33:23Risa shay puts that one in and risha say still a project for them
33:27The number one overall pick in 2024 has not played a lot in this series
33:32But he just turned 21 years old this month had a solid rookie season
33:37Not played as much this season as huck 40 gets it inside
33:42And a three-second violation call on huck 40
33:46That was a quick three seconds because he rolled caught it and kicked it out one two three one two
33:51three
33:53Oh, they call it offensive foul. There you go. Okay, so you knew better
33:57Wow, that was fast paying attention over here Mike
34:00Regardless of the screen regardless of the mixer up 100. I am locked in
34:04Now they're saying it's a three-second
34:06Okay, obviously I haven't been paying attention as much as I thought
34:11We got to pick one here Mike don't pat yourself on the back so quick until we get all the
34:16details a
34:17Wise man once told me if you want your flowers you better send them to yourself that wise man sitting
34:21next to you right now
34:22Yes, Mike. Thank you for that
34:24He's two seats over. Thank you
34:32Wallace picks it up
34:37The comb Dottie ace come on for the first time so
34:40They extended minutes for the bench
34:43In a blowout game
34:47Without a question for the Knicks who will they play in the second round? Philadelphia and Boston playing right now
34:53in a game six
34:59Dottie another Frenchman smooth-looking jumper right there
35:10Well, this this as we said earlier the first half
35:15This series a perfect example
35:18On how you can never overreact
35:20To a win or a loss in the playoffs because the momentum in a series can shifts oh so quickly
35:26Nikola Jokic now the Nuggets hoping to keep their season alive on the road tonight and even things up. That's
35:31next on ESPN
35:36NBA first round is presented by Popeyes love that chicken from Popeyes
35:45Well the Eastern Conference bracket
35:48Magic and Pistons are the game six tomorrow same thing for the Cavs and the Raptors
35:53Celtics and Sixers playing right now in Philadelphia
35:57And the Knicks will be the first team to move on to the Eastern Conference semifinals
36:02after the final six minutes and 50 seconds
36:05Now in the first round concludes Sunday with game sevens tune into abc coverage begins at 2 30. Obviously, we
36:10don't know
36:11what the matchups are going to be and
36:14will there be but
36:16We'll find out in the next couple of nights of course, Ernie, Kenny, Shaq and Charles will join us on
36:20nba tip-off
36:24So, how was your studio visit with the guys?
36:26It was a blast. It was great. It's a good time
36:29They had of course as you know, they've got a whole wall full of TVs in there
36:34Always couple sets on the hockey for Chuck so he could keep an eye on his flyers
36:38Those guys are those guys are a lot of fun man. It's good to be partnered with them
36:42It was it was great to be partnered with them and just working with Ernie Ernie's an absolute legend
36:48Me and Kenny got into an argument about
36:51North Carolina trying to steal our Arizona coach
36:55So that that was the fun part that I had with Kenny
37:01Deowara
37:03Shamit, Kolek, Sohan, and Dottie in there right now
37:07Wallace guarding Shamit
37:14Reese's Shea had it poked away. So what guys have seen from Reese's Shea obviously
37:18Didn't play as much this year. We talked about a little bit before
37:20But he's just still so young. He's lost confidence. I mean, that's really the biggest thing. He actually look
37:26He's the number one pick overall. So incredible amount of expectation and scrutiny comes with that
37:31He actually played pretty well his rookie year all things considered
37:35As a shooter at the time playing off of trey young they've gone in a different direction now
37:40But he's got to really tighten up his
37:43Handle and he's got to get a lot stronger, but he's just 21
37:47But I think his confidence waned as the season wore on and they went a different direction as we got
37:52closer to the playoffs
37:53And it also it can help development mentally, but when you bring in
37:57C.J. McCullum when you bring in the kill alexander walker who had the year he had all of a
38:03sudden
38:03You're trying to win and you're putting your best players out there taking out those wing minutes from him
38:09Which was obviously the best thing for the atlanta hawks as a team, but for him there was valuable
38:15Developmental time that was lost most number one picks go out there and they toss in the ball and say
38:20figure it out over a couple of years
38:28Pittsburgh on the drive colic guarding him
38:34Tony bradley lost out of bounds to go the other way
38:48So all the impressive things that went on for the Knicks tonight what sticks out for you?
38:54I think for me it was the intensity defensively that they started this game with the shot making was incredible
39:01But for me none of that is possible if they're taking the ball out of the net
39:06They were able to get stop after stop
39:09And really I just really took the heart and soul away from the atlanta hawks with their inability to get
39:14open
39:17The Knick defense set the tone from the start as bradley got fouled and go to the line 5 10
39:22remaining
39:23For me, it was really the the playing through carl anthony towns
39:28He had two triple doubles in this series. We talked about in the open the last two games
39:33He's had eight assists are averaging eight assists but playing to him creates easier shots for for bridges for og
39:41anonobi
39:42If they try and pressure him he gets to that hard right hand drive
39:45So the way they're playing their offense. It's not a hundred percent through him
39:50But giving him a larger piece of the pie that to me moving forward is something that's important
39:55I also think they played to their strengths more. This is now the fifth consecutive game
40:01They're north of 50 points in the paint two of those games. They've had over 60 including tonight
40:08Not as many quick early threes. They understood they had a physical advantage in this series against atlanta
40:15And they took advantage of
40:18Wallace
40:22Wallace brothers both can get after it defensively
40:26Facing kind of became a
40:28Rotation player right away peaton has had to work hard got his contract moved to a standard contract this year
40:36After being a two-way deal
40:40On the drive is deal lara
40:4240 can't get it but did get hit so free throws for hawk 40
40:56So the knicks will advance to the second round be the fourth consecutive year
41:02They'll advance to the second round
41:04Last year of course made the conference finals high expectations this year after last year's playoff run
41:11Coming up after the game I'll get some timberwolves. That's game six. That's next and then inside the nba
41:19There's ernie kenny charles and jack
41:22Discuss this one we'll discuss the second game
41:25Now moving forward final few days of the first round
41:29the playoffs so far
41:32between the play-in
41:34And then the opening round series if it's a lot of surprises
41:42Nice shot there from wallace
41:43Well, the knicks coming into the year had championship aspirations
41:47You know, it looked like the top of the eastern conference was there for them. There was a path
41:52And if you want to put something on tape to make your case that you're a championship team
41:56We just watched it of how well they played in this game
41:59A real statement on how great they can be on both ends at the same time
42:05Game five was similar not to this extent
42:08But game five was one of their best overall performances of the season well
42:12And this is what they're going to need moving forward again for atlanta
42:15You're looking forward to next season and building on it for the knicks
42:18You're going to take this into another series
42:21Where to me you want this momentum guys playing well, but mikhail bridges
42:26His confident looks back to his normal self being aggressive the way they're playing with carl anthony towns
42:33And threw him on the elbow the amount of assist that he's garnered over the last few games
42:38I think that is momentum building into whoever their next opponent is
42:42Well for the knicks. It was the most regular season wins in 13 years
42:47They also had a good record versus winning teams strong record in the clutch
42:52And only a handful of teams go through this every year the regular season in terms of how they'll be
42:58judged meant nothing for them
42:59It's all about about the postseason finals or busts seem to be this the frequent cry after that conference finals
43:06appearance last year against indiana
43:11As you are throws it out of bounds
43:15And we know full well the next round is going to represent something different whether that's boston or philadelphia
43:22boston celtics recently won a championship they've got that core there
43:26Philadelphia a ton of playoff experience amongst their veteran group
43:32So it's going to be certainly a different type of challenge than taking on you know a younger hawks team
43:39without going through this before
43:42And as we're now under three minutes remaining
43:47We're anticipating what was going to be a fun thrilling game
43:53Turned out to be one of the most dominant performances in nba playoff history
43:57This is the most points the nicks have ever scored in the playoff game. They're shooting 60 percent
44:07But as we said the
44:09Whistle away from the ball nope going to be a timeout call by mike brown
44:14So a timeout two and a half remaining nicks on the verge of advancing timberwolves hoping to do that next
44:20on espn
44:29136 84 two and a half remaining some records tonight largest halftime lead in nba playoff history
44:37The largest lead in a playoff game in the play-by-play era a 61 point lead at one point
44:42And for the knicks a franchise record most points ever in a playoff game
44:49I
44:49Don't know if there's ever such a thing as a perfect performance
44:51But this was pretty darn close about it right there in that last one
44:55I mean the most points ever in a playoff game
44:56You didn't have a single starter play more than 28 minutes and they put up 136 to this point
45:06Chance of let's go nicks is a huge contingent of nick fans out by their bench on the baseline and
45:11behind their bench
45:19And a lot of the hawk fans have left some of them here no doubt to cheer we see that
45:24every year
45:25It's one of the the neat things about fans who who just care so much
45:30That's research a nice move there
45:32As they want to stay here and
45:34Even though their team got destroyed tonight. Thank them for the season that they gave them
45:40Obviously only one team season ends in a championship
45:44But the hawks took some nice steps turned down turn around a slow start
45:50And they've got some terrific young talent. They've got two young stars
45:55Jalen johnson dyson daniels the great veteran and
45:58cj mccollum and now nikel alexander walker
46:03Kongu has such potential
46:04They've got the superb coach and quinn snyder
46:09None of that feels good tonight after they got waxed
46:12But this is a team that's on the right path
46:2640 with the rebound
46:31Well the nicks will fly home tonight to new york and they'll
46:36Wait what happens if philadelphia
46:39Wins tonight there'll be a game seven between the sixers and the suffix if the suffix win tonight
46:43That's who the knicks will play for the second straight year in the eastern conference semifinals
46:48Right now philly's got a sizable lead in the middle of the third
46:53So if philly can hold on you have a possibility of a game seven and after winning two games
47:00the way they have
47:02Dominant in the second half and then obviously what they're doing tonight so far a lot of game left to
47:07go in that philly boston game
47:09But both those opponents would be a lot of fun for the new york knicks either way
47:14you get
47:15New york philly or new york boston you get the northeast corridor covered you got some fan bases
47:20Don't care for each other all that much so that series could have a lot of spice to it
47:24There was a chance that if the celtics come back and win tonight
47:31And advance the second round that the knicks celtic series could start saturday
47:37But long way to go in that game still five and a half remaining in the third
47:42As we approach the final minute
47:46The final minute of the season for the hawks
47:52And final minute of one of the great playoff performances in knicks franchise history
47:58Tony bradley puts up the three
48:05Knicks rough after the first quarter 40 to 15 and you can never say in the nba
48:10The game was over then but the game was over then well got worse after that
48:18They outscored the hawks 43 21 in the second quarter
48:23And just never let up is a relentless defensive performance and a great
48:29Team offensive performance who was a 39 to 4 run at one point
48:34And now the knicks can dribble it out
48:39Well the knicks will advance to the second round for the fourth straight year courtesy of one of the most
48:44dominant performances in nba
48:46Playoff history in a game they led by as many as 61 they win by 51
49:01And often you see this at the end of playoff series teams that get after each other
49:06Sometimes we're ready to fight
49:08Sometimes young back and forth
49:11Show their respect
49:18And don't forget the knicks were down two games to one in the series
49:22Well, that's also why you can never ever overreact to the playoffs
49:26They tell the players don't get high don't get too low
49:29But that's not what the media does the media goes too high and they go too low
49:35So you got to give a lot of credit to the new york knicks for staying steady throughout this entire
49:40playoff series
49:42Winning games four five and six
49:46Five and six in blowout fashion four also by double figures really turned it around
49:53And now into the eastern conference semifinals
50:02So the knicks the first team to advance out of the first round
50:07As the cavaliers and raptors will play tomorrow pistons and magic will play tomorrow
50:14Josh hart and the knicks will not play tomorrow
50:18They'll enjoy the six-game victory
50:22Jalen johnson has become a star in this league
50:26And the all-star team and good chance to be an all-nba player
50:30Right now. Let's go to lisa salters. Thank you mike cat
50:34What were you expecting this game to be like?
50:37I thought they were going to come out and be their best
50:40I talked about it, you know, we can't just meet the moment
50:43We got to exceed it and I thought we did a great job of doing that tonight
50:46That's an amazing team on the other side very well coached and we knew we needed to be our best
50:50tonight
50:51If we expected to win, I thought we did a good job of coming closer to that
50:54All of you guys really played well
50:56You had a triple double and just four shots to cast
50:58I only had four shots
51:00Just four shots. You only took four shots. You had a triple double your passing was incredible
51:04I know it's never perfect, but just how close did it feel tonight?
51:09You know, I thought we did a great job with our defense
51:12You know, I thought our offense was created by our defense did a great job of causing turnovers
51:17upping the pressure and we executed offensively like you said, so
51:22It's a great recipe for success super proud of our guys. O.G.
51:25I mean, Ananobi was was special. He was special and
51:30Man, great great team effort. We got we got to reset though. We got to reset and we got to
51:34even be better next years
51:35Yeah, moving on to the second round Philly
51:37Or Boston with the way you're playing right now. Do you even care who you have next?
51:44I don't think it should matter who we play as long as New York Knicks come out and play our
51:48best version and best basketball we can play
51:50We give ourselves a chance to win every night
51:52And when you got the best fans and all the fans MSD at the watch party outside everybody in new
51:57york is tuned in at the pubs and the bars
51:58Appreciate y'all your energy is fell and of course you're here behind us the fans that made it here

52:08court tonight
