Kenyan and Ethiopian runners broke the elusive two-hour time barrier at the 2026 London Marathon, and it left me wondering as a casual runner, how far could I get in that time?
Transcript
00:00Both knees. I feel like they've aged 20 years. Not feeling great. That wasn't fun. Oh my god.
00:12A Kenyan and Ethiopian broke the elusive two-hour barrier at the 2026 London Marathon.
00:18But how hard could that really be? At 7am I put that to the test,
00:23running from Koroit to Warrnambool for one hour, 59 minutes and 30 seconds.
00:34First shell in. Not feeling great. That didn't go down well either. Still another hour and a half to go.
00:47Throughout the run I was constantly thinking how much further the two record breakers had run
00:51in the same amount of time as I. At this point I couldn't imagine running for another five minutes.
00:58Just about an hour in. Second gel down. Yeah I went down as badly as the first. Both knees.
01:08I feel like they've aged 20 years. Both runners in the London Marathon by now
01:15would have doubled the distance I've covered.
01:20You know they've had a bit more training but I don't get how they do it. So 59 minutes to
01:26go.
01:29Cows, sheep and the smell of manure. The main things hitting my senses throughout the run.
01:34The view was pretty good but the air was cold. Couldn't feel my face or my hands. Luckily the sunrise
01:40changed all that. After one hour, 59 minutes and 30 seconds I'd finally crossed the finish line.
01:47Slightly less fanfare than the 2026 London Marathon but I too felt like Sebastian.
01:53Except he had run a marathon and I'd run half.
01:57How do you feel? Not good. Not good. That wasn't fun. Oh my god.
02:09All right so this is me post Sebastian Sarway's 159.30 minute run.
02:19So I set out to see how far I could run in the time he did the London Marathon.
02:26Yeah I didn't exactly get what he got but that was tough. I essentially ran half of what he did
02:34in
02:34the same amount of time and yeah now coming to the end of it like both my knees are sore.
02:40My right ankle
02:40feels like I rolled it. The lungs hurt. I'm burning up. I don't feel good at all so
02:48yeah I don't I don't really get how they do it. I didn't exactly train like he did I'm sure
02:54but
02:55yeah that was tough um so seeing how um yeah well now there's the two of them that uh
03:02did the London Marathon and broke two hours. It's pretty hard to imagine post what I just did so
03:09yeah I think I need a serious ice bath right now.
03:12yeah
03:12you
