00:00It started off as an idea about wish fulfillment.
00:04I was working on Better Call Saul,
00:07and I would start to daydream about a character who got everything they wanted.
00:14Let me guess.
00:15It's all beautiful scenery, and you feel nothing but contentment.
00:20It's like living inside a postcard every second of every day.
00:25And then the show really became what it is when I hired a bunch of great writers to work with
00:31me.
00:32The best moments of Pluribus were group effort-created moments.
00:36They came out of a bunch of like minds working together.
00:40I like that little bit of irony.
00:42As we speak, no one is being robbed or murdered.
00:46No one is in prison.
00:49The color of one's skin, by all accounts, now meaningless.
00:53As Vince does so well, there's a strong argument for the other side, you know,
00:57of just like, well, everybody's happy, though, and everybody's serene.
01:00And I'm like, okay, well, I'm on Carol's side on this one.
01:04Okay.
01:08Working with Vince Gilligan, I've learned so much from him
01:12in terms of storytelling and for writers, what is important to them.
01:18And Vince is very, very collaborative.
01:20We're just trying to give him everything he needs.
01:21I never want to tell Vince no, so we try to accommodate him,
01:26and he's always very accommodating to us, and he appreciates the work we do.
01:29Hey, Phil and Mitch, you guys good?
01:31You listen to your actors and you listen to your crew,
01:34and if you're smart enough to do that, you know, all these fun things show up.
01:39Like, they wouldn't, you would have never thought they're right.
01:41Two things you've always said about that, or one was,
01:43you have to be confident to accept other people's ideas
01:46and not insist on it being only yours.
01:48And then your other one is, if enough people tell you you're drunk, sit down.
01:51Yes.
01:52That's a good one.
01:53That's a good one.
01:55I was able to get a bunch of people I love together yet again to create something new.
02:01I'm proud of the fact that this show is very different.
02:04Carol Sterka is, she's a hero.
02:06She's a curmudgeon, but she's trying to save the world.
02:09You, you, and especially you, have the time of your lives.
02:17Which is kind of different than the last two main characters of the last two shows.
02:21They're entertaining as hell, Walter White and Jimmy McGill,
02:25but they're not really actively engaged in making the world a better place.
02:28Carol Sterka is, I'm proud of that.
02:30Please, let's work together.
02:33It's really a show that's asking some questions about what happiness is,
02:37what is it to be happy?
02:39And what is it to be a human with other human beings?
02:43We're trying like hell to make this different.
02:46It's a different kind of show.
02:48It's very different.
02:48I definitely have enjoyed the ride so far.
02:51So thank you.
02:53And we didn't get to the story about you didn't have a banana until you were eight years old.
02:57Oh, yeah.
