00:00I'm Mike Ryan and I've just done the first marathon in a wheelchair from the Isle of Man.
00:05Are you quite happy with that?
00:06Amazing.
00:07Yeah.
00:07It's everything positive that you could think.
00:11It's relief.
00:14It's achievement.
00:17To be the first is something else as well.
00:20And I think it's a really good platform because marathons are hard for everyone.
00:26Yeah.
00:27So for somebody to see somebody with a disability do a marathon really sort of sets it out there to
00:35show that disabled people were just different.
00:39We're not necessarily always less.
00:40I believe it was six hours, three minutes, 42 seconds.
00:44Perfect.
00:44And were you happy with that time?
00:46Very.
00:47Yeah?
00:47Very.
00:47I mean, for a moment, when I found out at the time, I was like, I'm just out from doing
00:52a sub-six hour.
00:55But to be honest with you, just to finish, like before the race and leading up to it and everything,
01:01I just wanted to finish.
01:02So that only lasted for like a second.
01:04Yeah.
01:04Just a fleeting thought.
01:06But yeah, I'm very happy with it.
01:07Yeah.
01:08And was there any moment during the race where you particularly struggled?
01:11Was there any sort of moment where you thought, I'm not sure I can do this?
01:14Yeah, there was about a six hour, three minute, 42 section of the race that I sort of struggled.
01:21Yeah.
01:22No, no.
01:22It's the hills and the cambers were tough.
01:27In wheelchairs, we don't go up here.
01:29Too many people want perfect.
01:32When you're disabled, straight away, you're not dealt with a perfect hand.
01:37Mm-hmm.
01:37So it's just a case of, it's another obstacle.
01:41But some heads are built different.
01:44And I think a lot of people dealing with disabilities, because we've had to sort of deal with life's challenges
01:53in a much different way.
01:55Obviously, my wife is my biggest critic.
01:58Mm-hmm.
01:58Yeah.
01:58She's also disabled.
02:01Mm-hmm.
02:01So when obviously, when any of us are, either us are struggling, all we get from each other is the
02:07poor you.
02:09But yeah, to see that I've made her proud was, you know, it's an even bigger medal.
02:14Are you raising money for a charity through the race?
02:16Yeah.
02:17So there's a local charity on the Isle of An.
02:19Yeah.
02:20Which deals with mental health on the Isle of An.
02:23And I'll listen.
02:26They do wonderful things.
02:28Please, if you can support them in any way.
02:33As I said, it is a local charity, so it's not floating off an island.
02:37It stays on an island.
02:39So please, you know, dig deep.
