00:00If your hope of a new year new me is already starting to feel like a new year same me,
00:05you're not alone. New year's resolutions are hard to stick to, but there's another way to
00:10achieve your goals. HuffPost spoke to one therapist who explained the problem is the
00:14goals are often too strict and too lofty. She says instead, consider tackling smaller monthly
00:20themes instead of one big resolution. Those smaller themes can then be part of a larger
00:25goal like finding love. For that, one month's theme could be going on more dates. Another mental
00:30health counselor tells HuffPost breaking up those goals into bite-sized ones takes away some pressure
00:35and makes the whole thing a whole lot less scary, while keeping things fresh and interesting each
00:40month. One blogger on Medium praises the idea of themes as a way to increase flexibility for
00:45achieving the goal. The theme of health is a lot more flexible than the goal to lose weight. It
00:50could also mean trying exciting foods and taking advantage of your doctor's visits while allowing
00:55you to shift tactics. So how do you set those themes? According to HuffPost, look at your calendar
01:00and see where you anticipate challenges or big events and devise themes that will help you overcome
01:05them. For example, January could be a month to reconnect with friends at places other than just bars.
