00:02My name is Moe Brings Plenty. I come from the Lakota Nation. I play the character Moe Brings Plenty and
00:08behind the scenes I work as the American Indian Consultant.
00:12Marshalls is an exciting show and I'm thankful for the fact that we still get to tell the stories of
00:19Indian Country.
00:20Around here, hope is a knife that cuts two ways.
00:23Working as an actor, I always wondered, who's the mind behind making sure that we are culturally correct?
00:31And how do we get more of the traditional or the grassroots people involved?
00:36Because to me, they're the individuals who kept language, kept traditions alive, and they deserve, you know, for me, it's
00:43kind of like giving back and paying respects to them.
00:46This issue of missing children from the reservation has become an epidemic for our people.
00:54Very first season of Yellowstone, I kind of helped share what I understood here and there.
00:59And I wasn't trying to land the job. I was just saying, hey, no, this is the way it would
01:03be culturally.
01:04And it just opened up a door. And so to have this opportunity to be here and still look at
01:11how I was created to be.
01:14I mean, that is amazing. I mean, I owe all the folks that played a hand in making this happen
01:20a great deal of gratitude.
01:22Because it's not about me, it's about Indian Country.
01:25The moment I leave my house, I just don't represent myself or my family.
01:29I represent many tribes throughout this country.
01:32And so I always want to do the best that I can with a great deal of respect and humility.
01:38Hundreds of years of conflict doesn't sort out easy, Casey.
01:41Rainwater views Casey as an Akichita, as that last line of defense for the people.
01:47Because Casey is the element between the reservation and society.
01:52You know, when you find out who your friends are, when you no longer have something they need.
01:55Casey, he's that middle line and he's that barrier.
01:59And so Rainwater is dependent upon him in some aspects to help assist in some of the things that we
02:05face on Broken Rock.
02:06You pick town of the day to leave the ranch.
02:09Piao Wachoni was incorporated into the script.
02:12It is a Lakota understanding of what a new beginning is.
02:16But we do have a specific ceremony for that in the times when people have experienced loss.
02:22And they go through a moment of mourning.
02:26And then we help them to come out of that mourning and understand that, hey, life is still here.
02:34Life is new every day.
02:35The moment that sun rises, everything that is experiencing that sunrise is all experiencing it for the first time in
02:44their lives as well.
02:45So it is a new beginning.
02:46It is a new day.
02:47I don't just play an Indian on TV.
02:50I live it every single day of my life.
02:52The tighter we cling to our grief, the bigger shadow our sorrow casts behind us.
02:58You're gonna love it.
