00:02Elon Musk testified Tuesday in a federal trial against OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman,
00:08accusing the company of misleading him about its non-profit mission
00:11and converting to a for-profit structure, according to the Wall Street Journal.
00:17Musk said he sought control of OpenAI to ensure it would develop
00:21safe AI and cited his declining ownership stake in Tesla as evidence of his intentions.
00:26He also said concerns about Google's AI development influenced his decision to help start OpenAI.
00:33Lead attorney for Altman and OpenAI, William Savitt, said OpenAI's co-founders provided the sweat equity
00:39while Musk was only intermittently involved, offering advice and occasionally criticizing progress.
00:45Savitt also said other donors contributed more than Musk from 2016 to 2020
00:50and argued no promises were made to keep OpenAI a non-profit.
00:54Musk is seeking the removal of Altman and President Greg Brockman,
00:58damages exceeding $180 billion, and reversal of OpenAI's governance changes.
