00:00The Finance Ministry has suggested 5.4 billion ringgit in operational expenditure cuts for
00:05the Health Ministry and Higher Education Ministry to save government funds amid the impact of
00:10the Iran War.
00:11A Treasury directive said a total of 10 billion ringgit could be saved across ministries,
00:15including 3.06 billion ringgit from the Health Ministry and 2.39 billion ringgit from the
00:20Higher Education Ministry.
00:22It added that the Treasury, Home Ministry and Defense Ministry could save 664 million
00:27ringgit, 647 million ringgit and 508 million ringgit respectively.
00:31It also said the Rural and Regional Development Ministry could save 571 million ringgit, the
00:37Education Ministry 466 million ringgit and the Digital Ministry 508 million ringgit.
00:42The directive ordered postponement or scaling down of official events and encouraged online
00:47courses and trainings instead of in-person sessions.
00:50It also ordered an indefinite delay of new posts and intakes of civil servants, except
00:55for critical roles in sectors like Education, Health, Security, Enforcement and Revenue Collection.
01:02All ministries, departments and agencies have been given until May 15th to submit their proposed
01:06budget reviews to the National Budget Office.
