Rain across much of the state's grain growing regions has provided much needed relief for farmers facing one of their most challenging seasons. High fuel costs and uncertainty over fertiliser supplies have clouded the season outlook, but the early break in the weather has delivered hope.

00:02It's been a patchy start to the growing season for many in WA's grain belt.
00:08I don't mind a bit of mud out the front of the fertiliser shed this time of year.
00:11But rain since Anzac Day has helped kick start the season.
00:16Not a bad little start so far really.
00:18The weather coming down from the north west has been a blessing.
00:24At Lake Grace it's a race to get canola in the ground before it gets too wet for the machines.
00:31It's good to smell the rain and the moisture in the air and everything.
00:38But with diesel doubling in price and uncertainty over future fertiliser supplies,
00:44many farm budgets have been rewritten since the start of the Middle East war.
00:49It's been a big worry this year. It's probably the riskiest season that I've probably ever had to plan.
00:57As the prices keep going up, the risk keeps going up.
01:00And this is why you're talking to a lot of people at the moment.
01:02They'll say this is the most risky crop they've put in for a long time.
01:05Not just because of supply but because all the cost of putting the crop in just keeps escalating.
01:09In response, growers have adjusted what they're planting to minimise their costs.
01:14The numbers look pretty good on canola this year.
01:18So we've managed to get our full thousand hectares of canola that was planned.
01:23We've managed to get that in now.
01:25And listening to this rain on the roof now, really really relieving.
01:29So any rain on top of it really does save us.
01:32Hopefully the rain will continue a bit more frequently and everything.
01:35And yeah, hopefully we'll get to see a bit of more growth.
01:41All eyes on the sky and the Strait of Hormuz.
01:46Well, the rain on earth.
01:46You can leave the flowers there.
01:47Or please gather an DIcasue.
01:47And if it's the rain on earth.
01:50Yachtas are forbidden to do afterwards.
01:50To send out the symbolism and praise click on the third floor of me.
01:51I'll try to give it to Dr. Tim.
01:51I'll witness a request.
