Tucked into the rooftops of Paris’s 12th arrondissement, this compact top-floor apartment has been transformed into a perfectly pink retreat by architects Jérémie and Ania Brault, co-founders of Labopop. Taking full advantage of the apartment’s 3.5m-high ceilings and abundant natural light, they completely reconfigured the layout to maximise openness and storage. The new design brings the new kitchen, complete with ample storage, into the main living area and opens up the entrance with clever cabinetry. The guest mezzanine, repositioned so it centres over the kitchen and wardrobe, is accessed via a striking pink ladder and boasts skylight views over the Parisian skyline. The bedroom is wrapped entirely in soft pink tones—creating a cosy, dreamlike hideaway that’s equal parts calming and characterful.

00:03the pink panther's look and spirit was our inspiration for this renovation to create a
00:09variety of spaces we took advantage of two most important features of this apartment its high
00:15ceilings and the abundant natural light entering from the sides as well as the skylight I'm Jérémy
00:22Brault I'm an architect and together with Ania Brault we are co-founders of Labo Pop we met the
00:28owner Caroline when working on another project in the same building we call this project la
00:34bonbonnière which means candy box in French and is a female version of a bachelor pad we aim to create
00:43a super feminine space that was comfortable and could feel like a retreat for Caroline
00:56the apartment is in the 12th arrondissement in the Cartier d'Aligre area in Paris it's in a very
01:02central part of Paris the neighborhood's identity is rooted in the Aligre produce market right across
01:10the street is a square trousseau a three-line square surrounded by lovely shops and restaurants the
01:17building is in the late Haussmann style and was constructed in 1907 the top floor apartment made
01:25Caroline feel like she was in the sky living in the clouds so she chose a pastel pink wallpaper to
01:32add to that feeling when Caroline bought the apartment she did some minor renovations and
01:39lived there for a while before realizing that a complete renovation was required there was already
01:47a very low median in that took up a lot of space in the living room first we tore down
01:53the bathroom to
01:54clear out the space we changed the original plan by bringing the kitchen into the living room space and
02:02moving the bathroom and toilet to a larger room with some natural light and ventilation and took a
02:08closet between the bedroom and kitchen finally we repositioned the Medellin to the center of the
02:14apartment above the kitchen and wardrobe the entrance to the apartment is open but defined by a pillar
02:28custom cabinetry was created to hold keys coats and shoes as well as cleaning supplies and the heating
02:37many French people are very particular about their wine and because we were renovating the space from
02:43scratch it was easy to integrate a wine cellar into the space without it feeling like an eyesore the living
02:52room shares an open space with a dining and kitchen area making it feel like a large comfortable space
02:59the space has an amazing height of up to 3.5 meters as well as windows on both sides and
03:05above so it is
03:06nice and bright with views of the square nearby we installed new wood floors and painted them white
03:16this gave us a nice natural bath the coffee table was something she already owned and really liked it
03:25ended up informing many design decisions in the space the main feature in the space is the bookshelf
03:32it was originally a completely open shelving system which we decided to update we painted the rest in pink
03:41and added an extra shelf in the middle to make better use of the space for all of caroline's books
03:47caroline is a collector at heart so giving this apartment tons of storage was a big priority
03:56the l-shaped kitchen is very large for a small apartment this was one of the main requests from caroline
04:04we made sure that kitchen had plenty of storage for other things the kitchen includes an integrated
04:11fridge and dishwasher hidden behind the laminate doors the upper cabinet doors are mirrored which also
04:19helps to blend them into the space the quartz countertop was chosen to match caroline's coffee table
04:28caroline also had a collection of prints by american photographers that she
04:32greatly appreciated and wanted us to preserve since we didn't have many free walls to showcase them
04:39we decided to use them as facades for three custom-made storage pieces for her glasses
04:45we chose to use drawers for all the storage so everything can be accessed easily and nothing
04:51is lost at the back the round table can accommodate many guests while taking up a bit less space
04:58and making the room more comfortable to move around after the renovations caroline realized she needed
05:06extra storage to tuck away her work things we added a storage piece in an awkward corner under the slopping
05:14roof using leftover material from the bathroom countertops
05:24the bedroom is located under the medanin the bedroom walls were painted entirely pink at caroline's strong request
05:35this creates a fully immersive experience allowing caroline to fall asleep and wake up surrounded by her
05:40favorite color an ikea cabinet was painted the same color as the walls to give it a built-in look
05:52we actually left behind a few cans of paint so caroline can turn even more of her items pink in
05:58the future
06:01her latest addition is a side table that fits perfectly in the corner of the bedroom
06:10the bedroom door has glass partitioned that let lights through for more privacy we added curtains for
06:18when she has guests
06:23a single l-shaped piece wraps around the bathroom hiding a washing machine and tons of storage
06:31the countertop is a ceramic marble and it was one of the first things chosen for this renovation
06:39we complemented the round storage mirror with hollywood feeling like fixtures from the brand zangra
06:46we chose black metal accents to add a sense of contrast to the space
06:53we worked hard to find a slightly more muted and warmer shade of pink that would contrast better with
07:00the countertop the window is frosted only halfway so that caroline can enjoy the paris skyline views
07:07as she showers
07:12during the design phase we tried several types of stairs to access the mezzanine always very compact
07:19but ultimately we chose a minimalist one that resembles a pool ladder
07:25this area was kept simple with space for a large bed for when friends and family stay over
07:33the skylights bring in a lot of light to make this space bright and airy
07:38it also frames a view of the starry skyline of paris
07:46an accent pink neon light by the brand hay gives some ambient light to this space there is a switch
07:52right next to the bed and another one in the kitchen for when caroline wants to float the space in
07:58pink at night
08:03finding decent housing in paris as in many major cities has become increasingly difficult
08:09and people are searching for every bit of livable space
08:14when designing small spaces we seek simple solutions that enhance their quality by first
08:19considering how they are used and how light illuminates them
08:24it's also essential to bring comfort both special and thermal
08:28the home that were built over a century ago
