00:00I was super inspired by the 90s wave of animated films where 2D characters popped into the real world.
00:09Like Spade Jam or Wooframing Roger Rabbit.
00:13The apartment is home to a young couple who work in art and fashion.
00:19We wanted something fun and a bit surreal, but still grown up in how it functions.
00:26It's playful, a bit weird, but that's the point.
00:41I'm Anthony Othier, I'm an architect and designer at Ziva Studio based in Paris.
00:48I like to play with ideas that mix architecture and imagination.
00:53Especially this thing I call Cartoon Corps.
00:58It's all about creating environments that feel like you just stepped into a cartoon or a dream.
01:05Most of the furniture was made directly in my studio.
01:09There are chairs shaped like little animals.
01:12A coffee table that's almost as spiky as a rosebush.
01:18And even nightstand with the spike colors.
01:23The apartment had already been renovated before, but honestly not with much love.
01:30There wasn't really any thoughts put into the design or the storytelling.
01:35The layout across those 3 split levels had something really special.
01:41The first level was entirely the kitchen.
01:44The second level was the living room with the terrace.
01:48And the third level was the bedroom, toilet and bathroom.
01:52We didn't really mess with the layout too much.
01:55But there was one key move, the staircase.
01:59We rotated to make the climb to the upper floor feel a bit more dramatic.
02:04We also moved the toilet down to the lower floor to free up space upstairs.
02:09It made room for a proper walk-in closet.
02:15The apartment is in Saint-Ouen.
02:18It's a little spot just north of Paris, right by the sun.
02:24It got that mix of city grit and creative energy that I really love walking with.
02:34There are some hooks by the entrance and a couple of small shelves for shoes.
02:40Just enough to keep it functional without over-lighting the space.
02:46Just past the entrance, you land in the kitchen.
02:49It's all made in stainless steel, super sleek.
02:54But with this spiked blue handle that totally flips the vibe.
02:59We 3D print them ourselves in-house.
03:03It's one of those little touches that bring our weird universe right into the everyday stuff.
03:11The kitchen is compact but super functional.
03:15Induction hob, the oven and even a hidden dishwasher tucked in there.
03:21The semi-circle backplash is one of my favorite details.
03:25It kind of looks like a sunrise.
03:28That round shape was a way to soften all the sharp, metallic lines of the kitchen.
03:36The second kitchen unit is more about storage.
03:39We kept the top surface bare so it can double as extra prep space whenever needed.
03:47The dining area features a meyer table by Berlin-based designer Haute, paired with their fell ochre stool.
03:57As for the floors, there used to be basic tiles but we ripped it out and poured the concrete especially
04:04for the project.
04:06The living room sits on the second level.
04:10There is this small set of stairs that lead you there.
04:14Those are actually original to the space.
04:17That slight elevation gives the living room its own sense of place.
04:24Without needed walls or doors to separate it.
04:28The third big feature in the living room is this large custom-made orange bookshelf.
04:35We were really inspired by Swiss graphic layouts, super clean and super rational.
04:43The coffee table is part of my spiking roses collection.
04:48I've always had a thing for roses, you know.
04:51It's a bit of a tribute to my grandmother rose bushes.
04:55What I love is that mix of beauty and danger.
05:00We are drawn to the softness of the petals.
05:02But there is always a treat of the tones underneath.
05:08And here we go, one of my custom lamps.
05:12Same idea as the spike and roses table.
05:16It's got that cactus vibe.
05:18Soft light but speaky silhouette.
05:22The living room features the neon orange sofa also by Haute.
05:27It's upholstered in a Raph Simon fabric.
05:30And as a bonus, it doubles as a guest bed.
05:37And then there is a real centerpiece of the apartment, the metallic staircase.
05:43We paint it in this intense swimming pool blue.
05:48And because it's so thin and light, it really feels like it's floating.
05:54The railing was designed to look like it's passing right through a step.
05:59A little architectural glitch that adds a surreal twist.
06:05The large glass brick wall lets light flow in from the living room.
06:10While still keeping things private.
06:15It kind of looks like a bubble wrap.
06:18And yeah, that was totally the vibe we are going for.
06:23The bed is a piece from Carup.
06:25It's their Ziggy model.
06:27We liked it because it has built-in storage in the side.
06:31Which is super useful in a compact space like this.
06:37The storage used to be where the hot water tank was.
06:41Now it's way more functional and visually clean.
06:47The bedside tables are in a different finish to keep a visual link between the levels without repeating the exact
06:55same look.
06:59We also moved the toilet down to the lower floor to free up space upstairs.
07:05It made room for a proper walk-in closet.
07:10There is no door between the bedroom and the bathroom.
07:14It creates a more open, breathable feeling up here.
07:20The bathroom is fully clad in these long green tiles.
07:26And it gives the feeling of stepping into a kind of tropical greenhouse, you know.
07:33The custom built vanity units.
07:36It's covered in the same green tiles as the rest of the bathroom.
07:40It keeps that immersive green ass vibe going.
07:44The wall lights are from the Trap collection by Fatboy.
07:49It's functional but still playful.
07:55As for the toilet downstairs, it follows a similar design language.
08:01Same green tiles, same sense of immersion.
08:06It's like a miniature version of the upstairs bathroom.
08:13What I love about small spaces is that they really push you to use your imagination.
08:20They force you to think differently.
08:24And that's where the magic happens.
08:43And there is the documentaries that force you to use your mast vimos in these bluetooth wheels.
08:46These are Yout dados on the top floor with the Space del tryin,
08:46you will make all your 담.
