00:00The Department of Justice has dished out a shocking indictment accusing a former senior advisor to Dr. Anthony Fauci for
00:06allegedly concealing records amid probes into the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic.
00:1178-year-old David Morins has been charged with conspiracy against the United States, destruction, alteration or falsification of records
00:18in federal investigations, concealment, removal or mutilation of records, and aiding and abetting.
00:24The indictment, which was unsealed on April 27 in Maryland federal court, also lists two unnamed co-conspirators who quote,
00:32concealed, removed, destroyed, and caused the concealment and removal of federal records to evade the Freedom of Information Act and
00:40the Federal Records Act.
00:41According to communications first exposed by the Post in May 2024, Morins, who served as a senior advisor to Fauci
00:48from 2006 to 2022, conducted official government business from a private email account and asked the National Institutes of Health's
00:56FOIA liaison for tips on how to evade records requests.
01:00In an email from February 2021, Morins wrote,
01:03I learned from our FOIA lady here how to make emails disappear after I am FOIA'd, but before the search
01:09starts.
01:10He later went on to write that he quote, deleted most of those earlier emails after sending them to Gmail.
01:16Two months later, in April 2021, Morins also wrote,
01:20There is no worry about FOIA's. I can either send stuff to Tony on his private Gmail, or hand it
01:26to him at work or at his house.
01:27He is too smart to let colleagues send him stuff that could cause trouble.
01:31In September 2021, Morins wrote that he would quote,
01:35Always communicate on Gmail, because my NIH email is FOIA'd constantly.
01:39End quote,
01:40Delete anything I don't want to see in the New York Times.
01:43Morins oversaw a now infamous grant from the NIH to the Manhattan-based non-profit EcoHealth Alliance,
01:49beginning in 2014, that ended up funneling U.S. taxpayer dollars to the Wuhan Institute of Virology for bat coronavirus
01:56research.
01:58Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said that the allegations represented a quote,
02:02profound abuse of trust.
02:04As alleged in the indictment, Dr. Morins and his co-conspirators deliberately concealed information
02:09and falsified records in an effort to suppress alternative theories regarding the origins of COVID-19.
02:15Government officials have a solemn duty to provide honest, well-grounded facts and advice
02:20in service of the public interest, not to advance their own personal or ideological agendas.
