00:00Now, I love how, and you tell this joke, how you, your fans will come up to you and be
00:08like, that's Marty's gay husband.
00:10Yes.
00:12And not acknowledging that you're gay.
00:14Talk to me about that because I'm obsessed with that.
00:17It's literally, you know, I'm so in the Jewish spectrum of the world too.
00:21I'm in the comedy world, I'm in the Jewish world, Israeli world, and now the gay world too.
00:26So the, the, the moms, I'm going to call them, the moms and the, the, the, you know, my next
00:34comedy special is going to be called Your Mother Loves Me.
00:37Yeah.
00:38Because I have so many moms that love me.
00:41When they see me, they don't like, it's not a gay comedian, it's the Jewish comedian.
00:45And he goes, and he has a gay husband too.
00:47You know, it's like, it's just a part of it.
00:50It's, it's like, they literally don't put it together.
00:54Because when I talk about being gay on stage, I don't talk about being gay.
00:58I talk about being married to a millennial who's a guy.
01:02And so it's, it's that kind of, that's what brought that whole thing to, to get that whole bit together.
01:11Right.
01:12Did you, have you received any pushback from the Jewish world about being gay?
01:19I, I, I, if we post anything with me being gay, we get 99.999 positive.
01:25And one, maybe someone tries to just, maybe not even me, but they try to be funny in a stupid
01:31way.
01:31And we get a little bit of pushback, but no, I still get hired by very, very religious organizations.
01:39And, and they still, cause you know, I, I deliver what, what they need.
01:43My, my last special was called Know Your Audience.
01:46So I know what the audience needs and, and I deliver it.
01:50And so it's, it's, there's no, there's no real crazy pushback.
01:55No.
01:56Right.
01:57Which is amazing, right?
01:58I mean, were you worried at all about that?
02:00I would have been.
02:01You know, when we, when Leo kind of took over my whole, my whole booking and the career and
02:11everything, he knew that it was, and I was becoming a lot more known.
02:15He took control of the narrative and we found a way and we had a big piece written in Variety.
02:23And, and then we had a big piece written in a Jewish publication just so that we can control
02:28the narrative of it.
02:30Right.
02:30You know, and the narrative is that this is a guy who's a Jewish comedian.
02:35That's also keeps, you know, goes to synagogue, keeps kosher, puts on tefillin every day and
02:41happens to have a gay husband.
02:43And, you know, and that's what it is.
02:45It's not one or the other.
02:47Right.
02:48Right.
02:48I mean, it's a beautiful message for, cause I'm sure there are a ton of people struggling
02:52that don't say anything or, you know, are in the closet.
02:56We receive, I want to say definitely weekly, but sometimes daily.
03:02Hi, I'm gay.
03:03I'm Orthodox.
03:04I was born in this kind of a family and you really helped.
03:07And we, we're very appreciative and we're very, we understand that we are speaking to
03:12that audience as well.
03:14What's your messianic theory?
03:16No, it's, we, it's, you have to create Mashiach energy.
03:19Live as though the Messiah is here and it's for everybody, not just Jews.
03:24Right.
03:25So that's what I'm saying.
03:25When you buy tickets for your friends to go see a comedy show, you're creating that Mashiach
03:29energy.
03:29I don't know if you're going to be at the Radio City Music Hall shows, but when you see
03:35everybody laughing at once, that is Mashiach energy.
03:38That is, I found that it hit me during COVID.
03:43When, when we began, people forgot about this, but when we began doing live shows again, when
03:49we began going to theaters and all of a sudden, remember the mask and you had to sit with six
03:55seats in between each group that, and people were all of a sudden, the people who haven't
04:00laughed in two years were laughing.
04:02I go, Oh, that's what it is.
04:05That's the Mashiach energy.
04:07Right.
04:07And then I, then I began to understand it more and work on it.
04:11And it's like, everybody just, just create Mashiach energy.
04:14You create a messianic energy and you, it's by even smiling at somebody.
04:18You're just, Oh, a little bit of a relief.
04:21Yeah.
04:21A smile, you know, it's for everybody.
04:25A smile, you know, it's for everybody.
