00:00You've been nonstop on Broadway, right, and these cool TV shows.
00:04How hard was it for you to, I mean,
00:06you could so have easily just stayed as John Boy, like so easily,
00:10because it was so huge, the show.
00:13And, you know, there were only three stations, yada, yada.
00:16Yeah, yeah.
00:17You could have ever been stuck as John Boy.
00:19Right.
00:19And how hard was that to get out of that?
00:22Well, first of all, having, you know, I mean,
00:25that's the question, isn't it?
00:26But first of all, just as the disclaimer,
00:28I adored that show and that role.
00:30And I have nothing but not only incredible gratitude,
00:35but affection, you know, fond memories.
00:38And it was a wonderful piece of television for its time.
00:42Having said that, yeah, moving from that,
00:45especially in the 70s when, I mean, everybody,
00:48there were three channels.
00:48I mean, if you got, if you had less than a 24 share,
00:51you were like, are they going to cancel us?
00:53It was crazy.
00:53Yeah.
00:55So the reach of that, it was phenomenal
00:59and hard for people to understand today.
01:01That's probably one reason it's lasted so long.
01:05But with that kind of success and that sort of thing,
01:07when you're that young and you're still, you know,
01:10I mean, I'd been acting for a long time
01:11before I started that,
01:12but it's always a period of transition.
01:16I mean, I left the show after five years.
01:18I came back and visited because it wasn't,
01:21it was a very happy, I had a happy time there.
01:25It was a happy thing.
01:26But I figured, you know, I'd been in the show five years.
01:28It was going to take at least five years
01:30to sort of do enough work to start to balance the scales.
01:32You know, as far as theater is concerned,
01:35I never left.
01:36I mean, you know, I started as a zygote,
01:42as a baby and basically a small child.
01:46You were on two of my favorite, The Americans.
01:49You're definitely.
01:49Oh, what a good show, right?
01:51Oh, my God.
01:52I was so, I was expecting that.
01:53So terrific.
01:54And so original, such an original idea then,
01:56at that point, you know.
01:58Amazing, amazing.
01:59Yeah, and I loved it because it was sort of,
02:00it was kind of counterintuitive casting for me,
02:03which gave me really a wonderful opportunity
02:05to play a rather enigmatic character
02:08who sometimes you thought was okay.
02:11Sometimes you thought he was just a d***, you know.
02:12So it was a wonderful, I enjoyed, I loved doing that.
02:17How much Botox have you had?
02:19None.
02:20I'm teasing, but holy s***.
02:22But actors and foreheads, come on,
02:25it's one of the most expressive parts of your physiognomy.
02:28I mean, this is it, right?
02:31So, I mean, I don't want to freeze any of it.
02:33I mean, it's falling apart, but what the hell?
02:35No, it is not.
02:36If this whole acting thing doesn't work out,
02:38you've got a skincare line there for you.
02:41That's insane.
02:43You don't look your age at all.
02:45At all.
02:47Like 20 years younger.
02:48You're very kind.
