00:27gonna be so how does it feel to be hosting the golden joystick awards it feels like
00:36it feels like that um no it feels awesome i always love working with you guys you're awesome and uh
00:47awesome i swear i have other words in my vocabulary besides awesome uh yeah 10 out of 10 would work
00:55with you anytime i'm very excited to be hosting the golden joysticks this year well good i'm very
01:00excited to see you there um because you have of course you've won a joystick before um for your
01:06portrayal in resident evil village and uh looking back what's your memory of that it's interesting
01:11because this was all still pandemic times and so that happened virtually and i remember being a little
01:21dumb dumb and y'all were probably laughing at me because you had me present an award and then at
01:28the
01:28end it was framed they were trying to keep it a secret that i actually won the award so it
01:34was framed
01:34in the lens of like um we're just gonna have everyone record an acceptance speech just in case and then
01:41whoever wins will who will play that relevant acceptance speech so i did a speech and i was like
01:48oh my god thank you so much yep and then they were like no no you actually won it no
01:56this is real this
01:57isn't not just filming this is this is the real deal and so i had no clue so i recorded
02:03and i had no clue and
02:04then we had to re-record with an actual reaction because i was just doing the polite like wow thank
02:10you so much for the bubbly boop um so it was very silly so as i as usual i was
02:16in just a whirlwind of
02:17chaotic emotion and it was very gratifying to receive the award of course this was a character
02:23and a role that changed my life in every possible way and so then to have the to receive awards
02:31like
02:31like the golden joysticks and have all of the work that both i and the rest of the team with
02:36capcom and the developers and the other actors on the game put into it recognized and rewarded was
02:41extremely extremely gratifying i love that yeah well obviously village was a well it still is an
02:48incredible game but i remember when that came out and we were a few of us were playing it pre
02:54-release
02:54for like our respective jobs and it just became this wonderful kind of um contest as to who had the
03:00best of running with lady domitresk during the game oh that's fun i just ran away every time the
03:06moment i heard stupid man think i was like sit straight out of there so much um you mentioned
03:15uh obviously you know you mentioned the team and we could talk about that for a while but i kind
03:21of
03:21want to just go with that similar kind of energy and look at the wonderful nominees we have this year
03:28in specifically the incredible actors that we have this year and i'm wondering if there are
03:33any particular performances within a game from 2025 that stood out to you i knew you were gonna ask me
03:40this and i gotta say this is sophie's choice for me because now i'm friends with all of these people
03:46and you can't ask me you can't ask me to decide they're all so amazing and so talented and so
03:52incredibly
03:53deserving so we're gonna leave it in the hands of the fans and let them decide and no matter who
04:00wins i will be ecstatic that is the perfect answer for the host wonderful this was actually a secret
04:06audition that was a test flying colors that was wonderful there are there are loads of great
04:15performances this year i can't choose either for what it's worth so you know you're not on your own
04:19there anyway um but as an actor you know obviously you've given us some iconic characters you mentioned
04:24lady d you know you think of borders gate three and that wonderful you actually jump scared me in that
04:29game and when the character does the you know or understood the transformation it's like haha i was
04:34actually this person and i i just remember being really upset because it suckered me in and then i was
04:40about 80 hours in and i was like how'd i fall for this oh you sweet gullible little thing you
04:48that makes
04:49me very happy to hear but with with those incredible characters how do you go about like um or rather
04:56what
04:56is the most important thing that you believe you need to bring a role to life acting no um i
05:06think
05:07especially for the villains because i've thus far predominantly played villains in these video games
05:13uh it's very important that you don't judge them and you have to be able to look at them with
05:20love in
05:20order to fully understand their whys and who they are and for orin a lot of people like to just
05:27call her
05:31um psychotic but for me she is that but the reason why she is that is because she
05:38is secretly just like a broken little thing she does not have she's never known love she was never
05:45taught how to love she literally that's a foreign concept to her she has no idea what that even looks
05:51or feels like the only thing she knows is violence so of course she is the way that she is
05:56so for me i look
05:57at her with a lot of empathy and compassion of like oh my gosh you sweet little thing you don't
06:02know
06:03any better and you have so much fun you have so much fun doing it too so i think i
06:09think that's
06:09probably the most important part of what i do and then also i think specifically in video games it's
06:15important as an actor to always remain flexible because we have maybe like one percent of the information
06:23as actors and then the developers and the voice directors they have the other 99 of the information
06:30so i might have come in making certain choices or having certain ideas in place but i could show up
06:35on the day and they would be like actually we kind of needed to be more like this and then
06:41it's my job
06:42as the actor to be flexible and versatile enough to drop what i had come in prepared with and be
06:48like
06:48cool we're going to go in a completely different direction so you have to be able to have that
06:53collaboration and that flexibility on the day yeah i never really thought about that really the
07:00idea that you know because you do have your own interpretation and someone else could go no not it
07:07you could book the job with one with your audition that you did one way and then you come in
07:11to do the job and they're like hey we actually changed it so we need you to do more like
07:15this this
07:15and this and then you're like cool happy days gotta switch um yeah well i mean with your characters
07:22you become sort of synonymous with them so i like the idea that at a certain point maybe you weren't
07:28actually aware of how they're going to be so that's kind of cool um but but related to that i
07:33did want
07:34to bring up something so i actually met you before and that was in 2023 at the golden joysticks
07:39um and i worked for fts at the time so you know big love to them um i went to
07:45get water for me and
07:46some of the staff and then you arrived for our interview earlier than i was told so i was rushed
07:51back and in lady d's voice you told me off for being late and i just wonder how often does
07:59that voice
07:59help you out in everyday life i should probably utilize it more to be honest with you i could
08:09probably work that to my favor um maybe i tell myself off as lady d's voice like do your laundry
08:20god
08:21dang it um something like that to motivate me and scare me into actually doing the things that i need
08:27to
08:27do i should i should employ it more though i think it would be quite lucrative if i just go
08:31into
08:33meetings as lady d and then come out with everything i ever wanted and more probably is how i think
08:38it's
08:38very unlikely uh a director will tell you to do a character differently if that's if that's how you
08:43say i'm sticking no um also there was a very nice moment there that i thought i'd just bring up
08:50as
08:50well after it uh neil newborn saw you friend of yours and uh you both embrace in a siblingly hug
08:55that was so
08:56wonderful um it really took the edge out of the scary voice from 10 minutes earlier so but yeah
09:02generally i'm still scared at that at that moment so thank you for that good you should be and don't
09:09let that happen again well we'll find out next time everybody about lady d she has high standards and you
09:17she expects everyone to meet them and there's something that i really respect about that i think we
09:21in general but especially women could it could serve us to bring that energy with us wherever we
09:28go of like bars here you better meet me where i'm at otherwise you better go so i do admire
09:37that about
09:37lady d that is a really good point but when you said like high standards that was a pun wasn't

09:46yes i intended that from the start and you think that's okay just a pun i'm very upset this this
09:53interview is frankly going off the rails again this this is falling apart at the seams this is terrible
09:58you are walking a very thin line it's true i know i'm sat down whilst doing it um let's move

10:04before we get into more trouble um resident evil requiem is our next year okay you did this amazing
10:10trailer where you you you come and talk about resident evil and kind of kind of tip it and
10:15you know because you are a resident evil icon at this point so i love saying that well and i
10:23mean it
10:23with all my heart so as an icon of the series do you have um any sort of thoughts or
10:29hopes for the
10:30upcoming game my thoughts and my hopes are i'm i'm so excited it was so fun to do that video
10:38and to be
10:39working with that team i'm so grateful to have been brought on to do that and i'm deeply excited
10:44about re9 i can't wait to see what it's about this is generous because spoilers actors know nothing so
10:54i am equally in the dark about anything involved in it as everyone else is so i will i will
11:01be just
11:01as excited once it's all unveiled obviously i also know nothing about the game but i imagine it'll be quite
11:06scary the that's a safe bet i would say okay there we go confirmed what we know about the franchise
11:15it is a horror franchise i think that's a safe bet absolutely um so you've obviously you've been in a
11:23lot of series not just resident evil and mentioned boulder's gate and plenty of games if you could go
11:27back to any of the games specifically you've been in in like a sort of parallel universe version and play
11:34a
11:34different character in that same game are there any characters you you would like to have played or
11:40that you think you would be fun to jump into okay there are so many in boulder's gate though this
11:47is
11:47another soapy's choice there's so many cool characters in boulder's gate but you know what i think i would
11:53want to play the silliest goofiest gooberiest character i don't know maybe maybe i'll like
12:03swap places with aleona varanova who plays who wears many hats within the realm of alders gate but one of
12:10her many hats is she plays this squirrel so maybe it would be my my truest wish to just play
12:20a squirrel
12:22a squirrel or like a dog something weird and derpy that just comes out and is like i absolutely love
12:29that what a fantastic fantastic transition that would be thank you this is my audition please cast
12:35me as your next derpy warty toad or a squirrel that's lost its acorn and is frantically searching
12:42for it um a dog that sniffs too many butts i don't know whatever that is i'm ready team i

12:50personally would love to but aleona would be very upset with me and i'm not i'm not prepared to
12:54incur her wrath so i'm not doing it i'm looking for her wrath i'll play a different squirrel don't
13:00worry i could do like a sort of gray and red squirrel duo that might work ooh battle of the

13:09i like it and my squirrel's just big i have a giant squirrel and she has a teeny tiny square
13:15up and then i
13:15stomp on her and smoosh her under my pobs i can see it now the poster we've got squirrel x

13:34make it happen wonderful um to bring us back to reality because i keep dragging you into silly

13:47what am i like um looking back over 2025 we it feels like a blur of amazing video game releases
13:54like just non-stop incredible things um do you think it's been a good year for video games
14:03definitely i mean we can look at our nominees and and tell that oh my dog whining shut up i'm
14:11in an
14:12interview don't interrupt me again uh where was i yes we can look at the nominees list and already
14:21tell that it's been a fantastic year for gaming there are so many cool games and so many different
14:26games telling different stories than i think we've ever seen before so that is part of what is so
14:31exciting for me as a consumer and with uh with ultimate game of the year which is sort of you
14:37know
14:37the big the big award at the joysticks it's full of big awards but this is like you know considered
14:43the biggest by many um with it being an award voted for by the public do you think that makes
14:49it
14:50more special at all ooh interesting
14:56i mean we everything we do as artists especially in video games we are all we're doing it for the
15:04fans so we wouldn't be here without them and so it feels right to me to give them an opportunity
15:10to
15:11give us the feedback of what we're doing right and what's working for them um they are the reason why
15:16we do it all wonderful what a lovely answer and a little bit of fear in your eyes at the
15:22end there
15:22when you're like yeah did i did i do it did i did it okay you did remarkably and but
15:29i hear a dog
15:30whining and i didn't even know you had a dog maggie what kind of dog do you have oh i'm
15:35shocked that
15:36you didn't because i'm obsessed with her and i won't shut up about her this uh she's a big old
15:40mutt
15:41big old man there's a variety of different things she looks maybe schnauzery because she's got this
15:47big luscious beard and she and eyebrows that just go and she looks like an 80 year old man but
15:54is in
15:54fact a young a young woman i love that so much yeah so she's everything to me and i birthed

16:09person cat person or both i clearly i'm a dog person cats i like the idea of but i don't

16:20uh am i allowed to curse oh i won't be okay i don't like the concept of anything that's in

16:26house um i don't need that in my in my space so maybe if i had an outdoor cat that
16:32holds hold for
16:33like five seconds holding
16:39say that to his face don't the house stop it it's rude use the toilet or go outside there you
