00:00Backstage at Stagecoach with our Odyssey launch artist, Zach John King. Welcome to K-Frog. How are you?
00:07I'm great. Thank y'all for having me.
00:08All right, so Kel and I earlier, we're doing our prep. We're trying to figure out some stuff on Zach
00:12John King.
00:13And we find out on the internet, oh my gosh, he knows how to do magic.
00:17Turns out it's just a guy named Zach King.
00:19Yes, there's a great story to that. That's the reason I use my middle name.
00:22Is it really?
00:23Absolutely.
00:24So for clarity, there's a really famous magician named Zach King.
00:30And when I was on Instagram starting off, I would get all these fan accounts.
00:35And it was people that wanted magic.
00:38And I was like, I don't do magic.
00:39And so I was like, all right, what can I do?
00:41And there was already a John King making country music.
00:44We found him too.
00:46There's already a Zach King.
00:47And I was like, all right.
00:48So I remember calling my dad and he was like, use your full name.
00:51So that's my full name.
00:52Zachary John King is my full name.
00:54And that's what I'm doing.
00:55And you can't show us any magic tricks today.
00:56I have nothing to give you.
00:58Actually, we brought a deck of cards.
00:59I was going to say, I wish I knew more, but I don't.
01:02So we're going to play go fish.
01:02Yeah, for sure.
01:04Well, we did eventually find you.
01:06There we go.
01:07Definitely an interesting story starting with a behavioral therapist.
01:11Now when you're backstage at these festivals, are you like, oh, I'm so judging everybody
01:14right now.
01:15I know what's going on in your head.
01:17Sometimes I can be a little too, I can diagnose a room pretty quickly, but sometimes I'm wrong,
01:23but a lot of times I'm right.
01:24And sometimes I can be a little bit, a little bit judgmental.
01:27If I know, I think I know you before I met you sometimes.
01:31I'm scared now.
01:32Can we end the interview?
01:33You are so being judged.
01:34Love the fit.
01:35The king of bibs here.
01:36Thomas, do you own more overalls or more boots in your closet?
01:40Overalls for sure.
01:41I only have, this is the third pair of boots I've ever owned.
01:44I wear, I have a pair of Tecovas that I bought when I moved to Nashville that I still wear
01:48every day.
01:49I have a pair of Tecovas that I got as a gift like two months ago that I wore and
01:53I just
01:54got these.
01:54They're, no, these are Stetsons.
01:57So what's the bib count then?
01:59Bib count's like probably 11 now.
02:01So not very high.
02:02I just don't own a lot of shoes.
02:04It's growing.
02:04Yeah, it is.
02:05And I, it's just my thing, you know?
02:06I like it, man.
02:08But that's pretty good.
02:0911 bibs and you, like all your Instagram, they look fresh.
02:11So you're good at like mixing and matching.
02:13You mix the shirt with the hat and nobody pays attention if you got the same ones on.
02:18Perfect.
02:19There's your secret.
02:20I need you to give me a little bit of education here because I was on your Instagram and I
02:23saw Gas Station Biscuit.
02:26What is a Gas Station Biscuit?
02:28Oh, I mean, well, there's a, there's a couple of places.
02:31In Georgia, there's your, you got your Mapco's in Tennessee, but there, there's a specific
02:38group like back home in Harrelson, Georgia, it's a place called the Red Door Cafe.
02:43And when you go hunt, we would deer hunt in Harrelson.
02:47And before we deer hunt or turkey hunt, you go to the gas station and in the back is a
02:52little counter and they serve the best biscuits in the world.
02:55So there's a place in Athens, anywhere in Georgia, there's called Golden Pantries, which are gas
03:00stations.
03:00Okay.
03:01That serve arguably the best biscuits you'll ever get, but you have to get them really early
03:05in the day because they'll sell out.
03:07Oh, I was going to say, cause they'll be stale?
03:08Yes.
03:09Yes.
03:10So, so yeah, Southerners know that the Gas Station Biscuit is a prized, prized thing.
03:17Step up, California.
03:18We need those.
03:19You, you should.
03:19Y'all do have great donut shops though.
03:21Really?
03:22Yeah.
03:22Do you have a favorite?
03:23No, I just, I don't, we don't have any donut shops down South.
03:26Favorite shop or favorite donut?
03:27Oh, either or.
03:28Oh, uh, Boston Cream for sure.
03:29Oh, you don't have donut stuff?
03:31We do, but not the quantity.
03:33Out here I see them all the time.
03:34We got one on every corner.
03:35I know.
03:35That's cool.
03:36We got drive-thru donut shops out here.
03:38Get out of your car.
03:39I did have a blueberry donut the other day.
03:41I don't remember where it was from, but it was in Santa Clara and it was delicious.
03:45That sounds like a good one, blueberry.
03:46That does sound good.
03:47I did see on your Instagram, you were covering Harry Styles.
03:49Are you a boy band fan?
03:51And if so, who's your top favorite boy band?
03:53I'm not a huge boy band fan, honestly.
03:56I'm more of a, I'm definitely a Harry Styles fan.
03:59But if I had to pick a boy band, I mean, I think, honestly, I think One Direction probably
04:03did it the best in my, I mean, sorry to all the people.
04:06All the, I guess, Backstreet Boys fans or whatever.
04:08NSYNC.
04:09NSYNC, sorry.
04:10I liked One Direction.
04:12I thought they were cool.
04:13Or if you count the Beatles as a boy band, I would do that too.
04:16Oh, that's like old school.
04:17That is a boy band.
04:17I never considered that boy band.
04:19Yeah.
04:19Because you know what?
04:19They didn't do the choreographed dances like all the other kids did.
04:22No, they just did psychedelics.
04:23That was it.
04:24Which are very different.
04:25They are.
04:27It's about to be summertime.
04:29What is your boat playlist?
04:30Give me top three songs.
04:32I've been telling people, Five O'Clock Somewhere, Alan Jackson, Jimmy Buffett, for sure.
04:37There's a song, this is kind of a deep cut, but there's a song called Good Times and Good
04:41Love by Brent Cobb.
04:42Okay.
04:42And Brent's from Ellaville, Georgia.
04:46Excellent song.
04:47Luke Bryan actually helped write it.
04:48So that's a top front runner.
04:50And then there is Heaven Passing Through by Turnpike Troubadours that I have been loving
04:56on a boat.
04:57Sounds great.
04:58Zach John King, very rugged outdoorsy guy.
05:01Try to be.
05:01I feel like I know the answer to this question.
05:04Have you ever gotten a spray tan?
05:06No.
05:07Are you?
05:08Nobody laugh.
05:09Are you?
05:11He's laughing.
05:11Are you against getting one?
05:15If you'd asked me that even two years ago, I'd have said, yeah.
05:19But nowadays, I'll just give you an example.
05:21You get out these press events, and in Nashville, we ain't seen the sun until like a month ago
05:26for four months.
05:28And I'm just pasty.
05:29And I was like, there is a time and a place as an artist that I think if you're going
05:34to
05:34do a red carpet interview or something where you're on screen, that it could work.
05:38Okay.
05:39I don't know if I'll get one.
05:40That's what they're for.
05:41I'm telling you.
05:42Yeah.
05:43I just got mine.
05:45Good coloring.
05:45You couldn't even tell.
05:46No.
05:47I wouldn't have told.
05:47No.
05:47It looks great.
05:48So natural.
05:49Thanks.
05:50Until I, yeah.
05:52No, it looks good.
05:53It looks good.
05:53Well, thank you.
05:54Keep your pants on, please.
05:58Thank you for stopping by.
06:00Of course.
06:00Thank y'all for having me.
06:01Sorry that got weird.
