00:00Hello, Chris. Can we go back in the middle of the pack, it's alright.
00:03Luke, whatever you want.
00:05TFI to survive, take it away.
00:10My name is Chris Evans, original presenter of TFI Friday.
00:18So Chris, how would you describe this TFI?
00:22Like the old one, only 1% of the budget.
00:30Am I getting paid for this?
00:34It's a bit cheap, isn't it?
00:38Am I, what, that one?
00:41TFI to survive, take that.
00:45So, yeah, I'm Kedge and I'm the exec producer of TFI Unplugged.
00:49So Evan says it's like the original, except 1% of the budget.
00:531%? No, no, it's much less than that.
00:56Don't tell him.
00:57Take, take, take, boom.
01:00My name's Owen and I've just started working on TFI Unplugged.
01:06What do you do, Owen?
01:13I mostly get blamed for things.
01:15That seems a bit harsh.
01:17I love it.
01:21Do they feed you lot?
01:23No.
01:24I thought not.
01:25No, we've never been fed.
01:26Total t-ing, ain't he?
01:28She's the first result.
01:33More than 200, justement.
01:43No, no, no.
01:52No world.
01:55It's all.
01:56And that's a good idea, especially if we were not fear.
02:03Hey, happy Friday, friends. Thanks for tuning in.
02:06This is actually episode nine of TFI Unplugged.
02:10And because it's episode nine, that means we can do this.
02:15Previously on TFI Unplugged.
02:23What are you talking about?
02:26I look like Jedward.
02:27How many times did you do TFI?
02:29Loads. It was like it was our second half.
02:32I'd rather top and go down than England win the World Cup.
02:35It doesn't make for good TV.
02:37You can have that.
02:38Thank you very much.
02:39Actually, only homeless people turned up.
02:47All right, so that's all you've missed.
02:48But you can catch up on the first eight episodes of TFI Unplugged on YouTube.
02:53I know.
02:54Coming up tonight, we've got some Ryder on the show.
02:57Yay!
02:57Jack Saboretti singing live.
03:00And India's biggest star, Shreya Ghashal, on the show.
03:05But first of all, I've got a letter here about letters, actually.
03:09Hey, Chris, what is the current state of the It's Your Letters top five?
03:12Well, it's funny, you should ask, because at number five in the all-time top five for It's Your Letters,
03:17it is, with It's Your Letters, Tony Bennett.
03:21Letters, It's Your Letters.
03:24Letters, It's Your Letters.
03:27At number four with It's Your Letters, it's Robbie Williams.
03:32It's Your Letters.
03:44And number three with It's Your Letters, it's The Bee Gees.
03:48It's Your Letters.
03:53It's Your Letters.

04:41It's Your Letters.
04:45It's Your Letters.
04:45It's Your Letters.
04:47Best audience ever.
04:49But the thing is, it's 2026, so we actually need an It's Your What apps, please, Mr. Jack Saboretti, if
04:56you don't mind.
05:00It's Your Letters.
05:02It's Your Letters.
05:05It's Your Letters.
05:06It's Your Letters.
05:07It's Your Letters.
05:10OK, now, is this better or worse?
05:16Once again, Mr. Jack Saboretti.
05:22It's Your Letters.
05:24It's Your Letters.
05:26It's Your Letters.
05:27It's Your Letters.
05:32And he has more.
05:34Once again, is this better or worse?
05:36Jack Saboretti.
05:41It's Your Letters.
05:43It's Your Letters.
05:44It's Your Letters.
05:46It's Your Letters.
05:51How good is Jack Saboretti?
05:55Jack has a number one album today in the UK.
06:00So, all we need now, by the way, is a WhatsApp.
06:02And I just happen to have one here for a made-up name.
06:05Kelly from Kentucky.
06:06That'll do.
06:06OK.
06:07Kelly Kentucky says, she doesn't say, but we say.
06:10What's happened?
06:11See, what's happened?
06:11What's happened?
06:13I know.
06:14To Will since TFI last time.
06:16And is it true he hasn't aged today?
06:18Well, let's find out.
06:19Please welcome back, Will!
06:24Will!
06:26Will!
06:28Will!
06:29Will!
06:30Will is back!
06:31Come in, guys!
06:33Come and enjoy a bit of Will, everybody!
06:37Will!
06:38Will!
06:40Steve Denya has been dying to do that.
06:42Don't do that.
06:42Will!
06:43Do not do that.
06:45All right.
06:45We've been here before, haven't we, Will?
06:46I mean, we've been here anyway.
06:48Yeah, yeah.
06:4896, 97, 98, 99.
06:50Yeah.
06:50But also, they're saying TFI is back, you know, first time since the 90s.
06:54But we've done it before.
06:56Yep.
06:562015.
06:572015.
06:58Was it 10 we did?
06:59We did a special.
07:01Right.
07:01Which was quite a special.
07:02It was very special.
07:03It was a very special show.
07:05And then we did 10 more.
07:06All right.
07:06So we did 11.
07:07So we did 11.
07:08All right.
07:08So we brought it back.
07:09Because Channel 4 said, why don't you do like a 20th anniversary show?
07:12They said 20th anniversary.
07:14We went, great.
07:15That's brilliant.
07:16I sat down and went, oh, it's 19 actually.
07:20Yeah.
07:20And they said, it doesn't matter.
07:20Just call it the 20th.
07:21Yeah, yeah.
07:22So we did it.
07:23It's a very TFI thing to do.
07:24Yeah, it did really well, didn't it?
07:25And then they said, why don't you do some more?
07:26So we did some more.
07:27Yeah.
07:27So that was fun.
07:28Yeah, yeah.
07:28And then you went nuts.
07:29Then I went nuts.
07:30Not for the first time.
07:32Not for the first time.
07:35So when we were doing it back in the day, you were exec producer.
07:40And we did loads and loads of shows.
07:41And then I didn't do the last six.
07:43You didn't do the last six.
07:44Who did do the last six?
07:46Presented by the likes of a couple of Spice Girls.
07:49Elton did the last one.
07:50Elton John.
07:50Elton John did the last TFI Friday.
07:51He put it to rest.
07:52Yeah.
07:53Well, it didn't go well for him.
07:54So we had to go back to singing.
07:56It was his top gear.
07:58Yeah.
07:59At least that's how I'm going to frame it.
08:01Yeah.
08:02So, yeah.
08:03And then it went away.
08:04Okay.
08:04And then what did you do?
08:05I produced this wonderful novel here.
08:10Yes.
08:10Novella here.
08:11Okay.
08:12Called How To A Pub Genius.
08:13Thank you very much for your admiration.
08:16Available in any good eBay's discount bin now for 50p.
08:18The thing is, because Pub Genius was the slot we did on the show.
08:21People loved it.
08:22Yeah, yeah, yeah.
08:22And to the extent that you brought out this book, Will McDonald Pub Genius, did really
08:26well.
08:26You took it on tour.
08:26You had a whole live show.
08:27Yeah.
08:28Dancing Girls, everything.
08:29Sure, yeah.
08:29Pyrotechnics going on.
08:31I knew about that.
08:32It's funny.
08:32I mean, you call it a book.
08:34My other half calls it a pamphlet because the ink comes off on your fingers.
08:36Yeah.
08:37And what does your other half do for a living?
08:40She works in opera.
08:41Yeah.
08:41She's a little pamphlet Bob Genius.
08:46No, but I knew about that.
08:48So what's the confession?
08:48The confession is, you probably don't know this, brought out a second volume.
08:54You did not.
08:55Yay!
08:56I didn't know that.
08:57This now sounds like a plug for a book that came out 25 years ago.
09:02Will McDonald's here to talk about his new book.
09:04Seeing as you have two of these books out now, I think it's time for an updated reimagination
09:09of Will McDonald Pub Genius.
09:13CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
09:15I'm going to drink the beer in that glass out of that cherry glass.
09:21Cherry, ask your dad.
09:22Anyone who knows what a cherry glass is.
09:25Out of there without touching it with my hands.
09:26Right, at this point we all go...
09:28No way!
09:29No, can't be done.
09:30No way!
09:31Can't be done!
09:34Impossible!
09:35Impossible!
09:36Impossible!
09:36Impossible!
09:36The man's a fraud!
09:38Never going to have it!
09:40Never going to have it!
09:41Never going to have it!
09:41Never going to have it!
09:42Never going to have it!
09:42Watch the microphone!
09:44LAUGHTER
09:45That's the strangest heckle ever.
09:46Be careful with the microphone!
09:49What about my nice jumper?
09:51Erm, can be done.
09:52Drum roll, please.
09:53Drum roll.
10:06No way!
10:08No way!
10:18No way!
10:26Yes!
10:37Well, Pop Genius, volume three coming soon.
10:42Let's hear from Will everyone.
10:44He remains the UK's official Pop Genius.
10:48Our next guest has the voice of an angel,
10:50the hair of a god and the brightest smile in showbiz.
10:53He is a mentor in the new series, Your Song,
10:56which continues on Sundays on Channel 4.
10:58So let's make our whole day a lot brighter with Sam Ryder!
11:07CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
11:11Come here, guys!
11:15CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
11:19Mate, I'm buzzing for this.
11:21We're buzzing on Channel 4, both of us on Channel 4.
11:23How are you?
11:24I'm great. How's your new show?
11:25I was, like, getting goosebumps hearing your intro to show again.
11:29Yeah.
11:29I was just like, this is where you need to be done.
11:31Well, this is it. We're back. You're back.
11:32And you have your own thing going on with playing with me.
11:34Yes.
11:34Tell us all about it, Sam Ryder.
11:36It's berserk.
11:37So we go up and down the country.
11:39We bring a stage with us.
11:41This amazing crew that work tirelessly building this thing
11:44and setting it up and organising people just to get on that stage.
11:47We've probably never sung in public before, by the way, with a live band.
11:51And the band are absolutely cooking.
11:53They're so good.
11:54And these guys just come.
11:56They share a story.
11:58Could be something seismic that's happened in their life.
12:01The deepest depths of their soul that they're sharing with total strangers
12:05that are just out shopping, walking down the high street.
12:08And they'll sing a song that's attributed to that feeling and that story.
12:12And the connection that you see being made, honestly, Chris,
12:15it is just beautiful, man.
12:18It's so, so lovely.
12:19And you're perfect for this because, you know,
12:21you wear your heart on your sleeve and some, don't you?
12:23Well, I try my best to.
12:25I think it's a nice way to live because you get to meet people where they're at
12:29and you find out more about them.
12:32Like any interaction with a stranger, if you're emotionally open
12:35and your heart is open, I feel it's more valuable.
12:37So is it an anti-talent show?
12:40How would you describe it?
12:41I've never thought of it that way, but it's interesting because there's no carrot, man.
12:44There's no, like, sort of, you know, you win a record deal at the end
12:48or we'll put your single out at the end.
12:51It's nothing like that because these people, they're not professional singers.
12:54They likely hadn't ever stood on a stage with a live band,
12:59like an actual drummer playing before or something like that.
13:02And they're singing a song that's totally just theirs.
13:05The words mean something different to them than they do to, like, anyone else in the world.
13:10All right.
13:10All the way to best songs do them.
13:11Here's the thing, though.
13:12If somebody comes on and smashes it, what are you going to do?
13:14You're not going to ignore them, are you?
13:15Well, no, you don't ignore them, but you, like, you have an event at the end of it
13:19at the Hackney Empire.
13:21Yeah.
13:22And then all the singers, every single person's invited.
13:25Everyone comes down and absolutely rinses the free bar.
13:28But a couple of the people from each round, like, we have them perform on the night.
13:34So that is the prize.
13:35There's no record deal.
13:37There's no, like, old tropes.
13:38It's made by the Bake Off people.
13:40Yeah, so it's got heart.
13:42Yeah, well, also the point is I know that a lot of people who've won the Bake Off
13:45have gone on to do amazing things.
13:46Most of them have, in fact.
13:48That is hot, by the way.
13:49Sorry about that.
13:51I tried to style that out.
13:52It's not only our shows that are smoking, so is the tea.
13:56Things have changed at Channel 4.
13:57They bought a kettle.
13:59It's unbelievable.
14:00Not only you, but Paloma Faith as well and Alison Hammond as well.
14:02Yeah, man, they're fantastic.
14:04I mean, they're mad as a box of frogs, like, both.
14:06But they're so good to be around.
14:08Individually, they're bonkers.
14:09Yeah, no, but together, all of us.
14:11Do you know what I mean?
14:11They sprinkle a bit of Ryder on top.
14:13Yeah, yeah, mate.
14:13Who knows what might happen?
14:14All of our laughs also are so cackly, it's unreal.
14:18So I'm like, ha, ha, ha.
14:19And, like, Paloma as well and Alison.
14:21So the three of us laughing together, it's like the Witches of Eastwick around the cauldron.
14:24Alison Hammond's laugh is second only to her smell.
14:27Yeah.
14:29She's the greatest smelling person in the show.
14:31Oh, mate, she's great.
14:32Unbelievable.
14:33And so do you get together?
14:35Did you, like, do you perform at any point, you and Paloma?
14:38Every now and then we'll jump up.
14:39Like, there's a little, they call it a golden hour.
14:43So anyone passing by that sort of wants to get involved can just jump up and sing.
14:47And it's so lovely, man, because you'll just see someone passing by with literally holding
14:52a bag of shopping and be like, I'll have a go.
14:54I love it.
14:55And everyone's getting involved.
14:56I love it.
14:57It's such a simple concept, isn't it?
14:59Yeah.
14:59This, it's like, it's music to your ears and it's the wind beneath your wings.
15:03Yeah, mate, absolutely.
15:04And I just want to sing wind beneath my wings now.
15:07Well, I always told you're on vocal.
15:09Yeah, I know, mate.
15:10Can you hear my voice?
15:11Well, we do that big guitar.
15:14Are you working on anything new at the moment, Sam?
15:15Um, always.
15:17But, no, mate, honestly, you don't want to hear it.
15:20It is bad.
15:21So, seeing as we're now back on show, I'm going to pair of us.
15:28Last orders of the bar.
15:30Not just someone I drink at the moment.
15:31How long do you know how to drink for?
15:33Over two years.
15:35Yeah.
15:35Two years.
15:36You?
15:36Nearly three.
15:37Mate, come on.
15:38Which is ironic, because the last time we did have a drink was together in a sauna.
15:41Yeah.
15:42Absolutely never.
15:44Yeah.
15:44Yeah.
15:46Highly unrecommended.
15:47That's like the worst possible thing you can do in a sauna.
15:49We hydrated in a sauna with a bottle of tequila.
15:51Yeah, it was.
15:52It was good to do that.
15:52Yeah, and that's probably what it did for both of us, I think, wasn't it?
15:55Yeah, it was.
15:55That was our bottom.
15:56Yeah, that was absolutely the Lancaster, all the engines out.
16:01Just bang.
16:01It really was, wasn't it?
16:02Sam, great to see you, man.
16:03Mate, this has been so fun.
16:04All right, this has been Sam Ryder, everyone.
16:06All right, we'll be back after the break with more TFI Unplugged.
16:34We'll be back after the break with more TFI Unplugged.
16:55That was the brilliant Garbage and Stupid Girl.
16:59How good is that?
17:00All right.
17:00Still to come on TFI Unplugged, India's biggest star,
17:03Shrega Schultz, is going to be here.
17:06She's going to be performing an amazing cover of Coldplay's
17:09fix you, plus we reveal the winner of Slurpsy Jolly Juggler 2026.
17:14I know.
17:16I know.
17:16The finalists are amazing.
17:17Will it be Olympic gold medalist Matt Weston?
17:25Not bad.
17:26Or will it be Patrick McDreamy, Dr McDreamy Dempsey, with this?
17:32Yeah!
17:36Very good.
17:37So, or will it be Rockin' Ross Noble juggling and eating?
17:46Exciting stuff.
17:48And remember, Slurpsy Juggling fans, your vote counts.
17:51And most importantly, you can only think your vote's in.
17:54Remember that, OK?
17:55Yeah, no.
17:56We don't accept any actual real votes.
18:00Sorry.
18:01Who watches this rubbish?
18:03All right, now it's time for something very special on TFI Unplugged.
18:07Every single week, we're going to bring some TFI gold.
18:10And where better to start than with...
18:12David Bowie.
18:13CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
18:35I think if you put Clive on his back, he'd be taller than me.
18:41Sorry?
18:41If you put Clive on his back, he'd be taller than me.
18:43All right, now listen, you've got these high-heeled things.
18:45Very high-heeled shoes.
18:47But they don't...
18:48Oh, OK, it counts.
18:50Well, look, there you go.
18:50I'll give you...
18:51I should...
18:51Measure out five foot ten and a half.
18:54I can't do five foot ten and a half.
18:55Yes.
18:56Are you five foot ten and a half?
18:57Yes.
18:57You're not five foot ten and a half.
18:59I'm five foot ten and a half.
19:00OK, all right, hang on a minute.
19:01Let's see.
19:02What are you?
19:03Six foot ten.
19:04There you go.
19:04There you go.
19:06That's pretty accurate.
19:07David.
19:07I'm still big.
19:08Bowie?
19:09I'm...
19:09B...
19:11B...
19:11O...
19:12Go on.
19:13Carry on.
19:14W-I-E...
19:15OK, officially, David Bowie is taller than Benno.
19:17CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
19:24Oh, yeah.
19:26So, David...
19:27I had a hell of a time getting here.
19:28I know.
19:29Go on.
19:29I know you were going to talk about this.
19:30Go on.
19:30Let me tell...
19:31No, you don't know.
19:32I tried to cross Hammond-Smith Bridge
19:34and I didn't know that the rich people
19:36have got it all blocked up.
19:37Right.
19:38So, I got fined, dragged into court,
19:41all that, all in the last half hour.
19:43No way.
19:43Yes, it's absolutely true.
19:44And I've had gastroenteritis.
19:47Oh.
19:48All in the last half hour.
19:50Hey, Colin, you tell the gastroenteritis
19:52is still doing the rounds?
19:53Do you know how I got that?
19:54Go on.
19:54I was in Indonesia.
19:55I was lost in the jungle.
19:57This is absolutely true.
20:00What?
20:01I believe you, Colin.
20:02And an old man with one leg and a donkey
20:04found me and took me to a glade
20:07and pointed to a temple and a palace.
20:10And I said, I'm not Muslim.
20:13Wife is.
20:13I'm not.
20:14So, we're going to the palace.
20:16You're going to let me go on with this, aren't you?
20:17I'm dead right, mate.
20:18You started it.
20:19We got to the palace
20:20and it's the son of,
20:22I think he was a gun runner
20:23and he had guys in turrets
20:25all around the palace with guns
20:26to keep the poor people out.
20:28He was so pleased to see me
20:30that he put a sheet up in the garden
20:32at the bottom of the garden.
20:34Pour in with rain.
20:35Yeah.
20:36Servants holding a sheet up
20:37at the far end of the garden
20:38had a projector on the porch
20:40where we were
20:40and we sat and watched Sahara
20:43with Brooke Shields.
20:48Then he threw a party
20:50and he had seven daughters
20:51and seven sons.
20:55Yeah.
20:56I always laugh when I say that.
20:58And the seven daughters,
21:00they entertained me royally
21:02with dance and, no,
21:04flute playing.
21:06Flute playing and dance
21:07and he fed me things
21:09like monkey breast
21:10and parrot beak,
21:12I think it was,
21:13was the course that night.
21:15And the next day,
21:17I redecorated the bathroom.
21:19But he sent his daughter over to me.
21:22Yeah.
21:22His favourite daughter,
21:23he sent to me.
21:25If you know what I mean.
21:26Yes.
21:27And I couldn't make it
21:28to the front door.
21:30Go away!
21:31You're beautiful,
21:32but go away.
21:33This was many years ago.
21:34That has nothing...
21:36This has absolutely nothing to do
21:39with the fact
21:40that I got gastroenteritis
21:41the other day.
21:41That was just...
21:42It just reminded me, though,
21:44that I've had it twice.
21:52We won't talk about the chair.
21:54OK.
21:55Shall we talk about the chair?
21:56No, you can talk about
21:56whatever you want, but...
21:57This is the second worst chair
21:59I've sat on today.
22:00Show them.
22:00Show them the chair.
22:01Look at this chair.
22:02That chair.
22:03The first one
22:04is owned by Richard Branson
22:06on Virgin Airlines.
22:07And he has...
22:08No, they're fabulous.
22:09Virgin Airlines are great,
22:11except this one.
22:12It's the 747-200 series.
22:15And he bought it from Cathay,
22:16I think, Cathay Pacific.
22:18And they've left the old chairs
22:19on, the Chinese chairs,
22:20but they've just put
22:21Virgin material on it.
22:23And you can't...
22:24You know, it won't go anywhere.
22:26It's all...
22:26And so I slept like that.
22:29I've only just...
22:30I've been up for 29 hours.
22:32We can tell, can't we?
22:35This is me straight, buddy.
22:37You're lucky you didn't know me
22:3925 years ago.
22:42How are you doing?
22:43I'm great, actually.
22:44Great.
22:45Good.
22:45You used to stay up
22:46for seven to eight days
22:46at a time, is that right?
22:47I did, indeed, yes.
22:48Now, what's that like?
22:49I had a lot of friends.
22:51And you've got to give
22:52friends time.
22:54Was that the drugs, then?
22:57What, that attracted
22:58the friends, you mean?
22:59The reason I had friends?
23:01Probably, yeah.
23:02I imagine.
23:02They all disappeared
23:03when I stopped doing drugs,
23:04so I think you're probably
23:05right on the money there.
23:06So, did you find
23:08that you wrote better songs
23:09or worse songs
23:10when you did the old, you know?
23:11Well, as I wrote things
23:13like Low, Heroes, Lodger,
23:15Scary Monsters,
23:16or Straight.
23:17By the way, by the way, by the way.
23:20Without drugs.
23:23Pretty much without drugs.
23:26I don't think...
23:27I think it's just an attitude,
23:29you know, whether you're
23:30enjoying it and...
23:31But you don't have a drink
23:32now, either, do you?
23:32I don't drink
23:33and I don't drug, no.
23:34But you smoke facts
23:35and you drink coffee.
23:36Oh, God, yeah.
23:37I'm dying for a cigarette.
23:39Well, you can't have one
23:40on the telly.
23:41We're not allowed to.
23:41In the old days,
23:42you could, but you can't anymore.
23:43Seriously, can't.
23:43You can have one in drama,
23:44but this ain't a drama.
23:45Mind you, you're turning it into one.
23:46It's very good sense.
23:47It's not the job
23:48at a drama or at the...
23:49If you were...
23:50If the harm
23:51that cigarettes did
23:53could be seen
23:54on the outside of your body...
23:54Could be bottled and sold.
23:56Well, it is, I suppose.
23:57You could provide
23:57half the mercenaries
23:58in America
23:59with a new weapon,
24:00couldn't you?
24:00But if it was...
24:01Forget anthrax, buddy.
24:04They did a program
24:06on American television
24:06the other night.
24:07I cannot believe it.
24:09As though we haven't
24:09got enough problems.
24:11Dateline did this thing.
24:12Let's recreate
24:13what would happen
24:14if terrorists threw anthrax
24:15down on the American subway.
24:18And they spent
24:19all this money
24:20showing us
24:21how 500,000 people
24:23would be dead
24:24in one day in New York.
24:25How bodies would be
24:26piled up
24:27because all the grave diggers
24:28would have buggered off
24:29to Queens
24:30or wherever they come from.
24:32Brooklyn.
24:32I don't know
24:33where do grave diggers
24:34come from?
24:34I don't know.
24:36See, the questions
24:37this kind of debate rises.
24:40And it went on
24:40for about an hour
24:41and I was so depressed
24:43at the end of it
24:43realizing that I
24:45really mustn't stay
24:46in cities where
24:47even the tiniest possibility
24:49of anthrax being
24:50loosed upon
24:51me and my family.
24:53But then I forgot
24:54all about it
24:55in a half an hour
24:55because friends came on.
24:58And that's the world
24:59we live in?
24:59That's the world we live in.
25:00It is.
25:01Sure enough.
25:01Who are the best
25:02kisses?
25:02Stop smiling.
25:03Your camera is shaking.
25:05Who are the best
25:06kisses, men or women?
25:08Why ask me?
25:13Do they kiss differently?
25:17You know,
25:18there are a lot
25:19of doctors
25:19who can actually
25:20help you with this.
25:25David actual baby.
25:26That seemed to work,
25:27didn't it?
25:28So let's do it again.
25:28Here's the cure
25:29back after the break.
25:32I don't care about you.
25:35I don't care about you.
25:42It's Friday.
25:44I don't care about you.
25:46I don't care about you.
26:12Bye.
26:14I don't care about you.
26:16I don't care about you.
26:16the cure with Friday I'm in love okay our next guest it's Jack Savoretti
26:33how does it feel to be number one
26:39slightly too old for this but it's all thanks to you the pro more that you
26:44it's not all the darn songs and you've been in it forever yeah forever it feels
26:49like forever we will always be there the brand new album from Jack Savoretti is
26:53currently number one yeah absolutely smashing the opposition okay so crew
27:02what have we got Holly Humberston amazing record yeah nice one Holly and so close
27:08but no cigar they're at number two Ella Langley Dandelion another made they're
27:12all amazing they're all amazing and and then there's this uh this newbie Olivia
27:16Dean Olivia Dean um yeah I told you that when they they put a picture of me and
27:20her on socials on the official chart and my daughter thought it was like me
27:23pranking her yeah she didn't believe that I was actually well you thought it was
27:26somebody pranking I thought I was being I wasn't gonna say that I thought I was
27:31being pranked yeah and Ray is number five as well I'm such a fan of all these
27:35guys once again let me say Jack Savoretti at number one I didn't prepare a speech
27:41right no but when did you when did you when were you told when did the whispers
27:48start getting loud enough for you to hear that this might be something special it
27:51was online I mean I asked everybody before the campaign even started I was
27:55like look I'm this is I don't want to know anything because it could it's not
27:59something I set out to do it's not something that's in my sort of my reason for
28:03going for it but the minute you know you really want it the minute they give
28:07you that thing of like look we might be up in for a chance of a number one album
28:10you suddenly start thinking it's just such a nice way to thank everybody that's
28:14helped you made the record of course it is like you can make it mean nothing it
28:17can mean absolutely nothing to you or you can make it mean everything yeah the
28:19people that are involved with this yeah and that's so important isn't it yeah
28:22we've had loads of messages uh because people knew you were coming on you've got
28:25loads of fans loads of people looking forward to the Royal Albert Hall next week
28:28yeah that's another thing keeping me up at night we're playing the Royal Albert Hall
28:31which is you've done this before not for my own not on my own back I've opened up
28:35for people no you've done gigs before oh I've done it's just a different room it's
28:41a different you know when the decorators come in and you have to move the sofa
28:44out from the kitchen from the living room to the kitchen it's the same thing I'm
28:48telling myself I keep telling the band that like I'm preaching exactly what
28:51you're saying I'm like a football manager I'm like we stick to our game plan you
28:54don't believe but I'm dying inside yeah well no every look it's it is like a
29:00football player playing Wembley everybody wants to bring their a game and it does make a difference
29:04like there's something about that room when you walk into it's not the size of it it's the
29:07it's the regalness of it the majesty yeah yeah yeah sort of and it's intimate
29:11and that's kind of really wonderful but disconcerting it is it is it's like a velvet cushion isn't
29:18it there's lots of velvet around there's lots of crushed red velvet around lush the acoustics are
29:23fantastic aren't they acoustics are fantastic they're really good for voice and if you keep it
29:27quite intimate if you go too big it can sort of bounce all over the place all right so if
29:31you've
29:31got a ticket for next week he's not going big you might as well stay home oh no we're gonna
29:36go big
29:36but on a different level so will it change will will the the rhythm of the show change because of
29:42where it is no that's another thing we're really trying to stick to our guns and with the band playing
29:48with me is my band for pretty much 15 to 20 years some guys have been with me for ages
29:51and we are
29:52they're the guys playing on the record so this is kind of like the first time we're playing the record
29:56from top to bottom and we're doing something really grown up we're gonna do i got i stole
30:00this idea from arcade fire we're gonna do the new album top to bottom then have an interval
30:05oh right
30:07is that because you because we're so grown up now we need a brand we're so old we need a
30:12wee
30:14that's the thing the first time this ever happened to me right i went to i think it was the
30:19eagles
30:19um i think i would say i think it was the eagles one of my dream shows yeah i wanted
30:24dream shows and
30:25there was an interval and i was like an interval this is interesting and i'm thinking okay that's
30:29it's beer time but of course you then you then go from the stadium from your seat and you go
30:35down
30:35to where the beers are you think it's going to be a big queue i better get there as quick
30:38as i can
30:38no the queue for the lose was so much longer than the keys for the beers because of the demographic
30:44of the audience yeah yeah i mean i i kind of put myself in that like it'll be a nice
30:49little half
30:49an hour rest i think the band needed the band needed a comfort break as much as the audience
30:55we did it we did a sort of we did a show like a warm-up show in liverpool about
30:58a month ago just
30:59to sort of see if we could actually play this stuff live and we had an interval and we were
31:03like why
31:03have we never done this before it was so nice we got this it's like a half time in a
31:07football game
31:07you get to recap i love what you did on that thing let's do that in the smelling salts a
31:11bit of a rub
31:11down two beers two shots especially if it's going really well that's the problem yeah you've got to
31:17not celebrate though it's only half time that we learned that on our on our warm-up sort of run
31:22don't really win it in the second half but you can lose it in the second half absolutely oh my
31:26gosh
31:27i don't want to sew that suit don't blame this on me no no no we won't we'll keep it
31:31together but
31:32it's really cool and then the second the second half of the show we're going to do our sort of
31:35old friends are almost hits it's going to be like an hour you're almost you should have an
31:40almost greatest it's almost good but you don't need to because i don't know if you know but jack
31:45is currently number one in the uk oh jack jack jack um where did where was this new album where
31:53was it um where was it how was it born where did it come from it was born out of
31:57it's actually one
31:57of the few albums i've first albums i've done in a long time without any preconceived concept which
32:02sounds a bit clumsy but in the past i've sometimes protected the substance of what i'm saying in
32:06with style it's a bit like if you're if you feel like you're having imposter syndrome or you kind of
32:11don't feel like you maybe be up to scratch with what you're supposed to be doing you dress it up
32:15a
32:15bit and i've done that in the past i've always also to protect the substance um with this one i
32:20was
32:20like no style we're going full substance this is jeans and t-shirt album it'll do what it does
32:24and you no longer need to fear olivia dean because you're number one can we hear it for the current
32:30number one selling artist in the uk album chart it's jack severetti
32:38is will mcdonald still here will will will will will it's will he loves that he doesn't hate it
32:51all right coming up now jack severetti please welcome jack severetti for the ocean color scenes
32:56is the day we call the train never saw it as the star it's more a change of heart
33:07wrapping on the windows whisking down the chimney pots
33:13blowing off the dust in the room where i forgot i laid my plans inside and fried
33:21stepping through the door like a troubadour while they're just an hour away
33:27looking at the trees on the roadside feeling it's a holiday
33:32you and i should ride the coast and wind up in our favorite coats just by its own way

34:15holding on the floor with the cigarette burns walked in
34:19i'll miss the crush and i'm home again
34:23stepping through the door with the night in store while i'm just an hour away
34:29sleeping to the sky in the star bright feeling it's a brighter day
34:34well you and i should ride the coast and wind up in our favorite coats just miles away

38:59have to park it i suppose i don't think so much about this i mean if you start thinking about
39:05how to
39:06manage uh listeners algorithms social media then i think the music takes a backseat so i just focus on the
