00:00It was very unexpected but incredibly acted upon by the Secret Service and law enforcement.
00:11It was an event dedicated to freedom of speech that was supposed to bring together
00:18members of both parties with members of the press.
00:21And in a certain way it did.
00:23Because the fact that they just unified
00:28I saw a room that was just totally unified
00:30It was in one way very beautiful
00:32A very beautiful thing to see
00:33A man charged a security checkpoint
00:36Armed with multiple weapons
00:40And he was taken down by some very brave members of secret service
00:44And they acted very quickly
00:45And have just released
00:47For purposes of transparency, clarity
00:51I've ordered it to be put out
00:54You probably have it by now
00:55Put out on truth and put out on many of the platforms
00:59A tape showing the violence of this thug
01:02That attacked our constitution
01:04And also showing how quickly secret service
01:07And law enforcement acted on our country's behalf
01:11Really did a great job
01:14One officer was shot
01:15But saved by the fact that
01:18He was wearing obviously a very good bulletproof vest
01:22He was shot from very close distance
01:25With a very powerful gun
01:28And the vest did the job
01:30I just spoke to the officer and he's doing great
01:33He's in great shape
01:34He has very high spirits
01:39And we told him we love him and respect him
01:44And he's a very proud guy
01:45He's very proud of what he does
01:48Secret service agent
01:50And we looked at all of the conditions that took place tonight
01:56And I will say, you know, it's not a particularly secure building
02:03And I didn't want to say this
02:05But this is why we have to have all of the attributes of what we're planning at the White House
02:12It's actually a larger room
02:14And it's much more secure
02:16It's got drone proof
02:18It's bulletproof glass
02:19We need the ballroom
02:20That's why secret service
02:21That's why the military are demanding it
02:24They've wanted the ballroom for 150 years
02:26For lots of different reasons
02:29But today is a little bit different
02:31Because today we need levels of security
02:34That probably nobody's ever seen before
02:37But everyone owes a tremendous debt of gratitude
02:41To the courage of law enforcement
02:44The law enforcement and working with the D.C. police
02:48And we just spoke with the mayor
02:49And when we're finished, the police chief is going to take over
02:54And discuss it also from their viewpoint
02:59But they also performed exactly as they were supposed to
03:03And you see the attacker in different positions
03:06But you also see the attacker totally subdued and under control
03:12So as you know, this is not the first time in the past couple of years
03:15That our republic has been attacked by a would-be assassin
03:19Who sought to kill
03:22In Butler, Pennsylvania less than two years ago
03:24You all know that story
03:26And in Palm Beach, Florida
03:27A few months after that
03:29We came close
03:30We really had, again
03:32We had some great work done by law enforcement
03:36But in light of this evening's events
03:38I ask that all Americans recommit
03:40With their hearts
03:42In resolving our difference peacefully
03:44We have to
03:45We have to resolve our differences
03:47I will say
03:48You had republicans, democrats, independents, conservatives
03:54Liberals and progressives
03:56Those words are interchangeable perhaps
03:58But maybe they're not
03:59But yet everybody in that room
04:01Big crowd
04:01Record-setting crowd
04:03There was a record-setting group of people
04:07And there was a tremendous amount of love
04:10And coming together
04:11I watched
04:12I watched and I was very, very impressed by that
04:16But we were
04:18First lady and I were
04:19Taken very well care
04:21Very quickly
04:22Very quickly rushed off the stage
04:25Vice president
04:26J.D. Vance
04:27Who's here
04:28Was likewise
04:31Beautifully done
04:32He was just saying
04:33How quickly
04:34Everybody acted
04:35Law enforcement
04:36Secret service
04:37In particular
04:37In this case
04:38But law enforcement

04:41Pete didn't want any help
04:42He didn't want anybody to help
04:44He doesn't want anybody to help him
04:46But he did get some
04:47Didn't you?

04:50That it was very impressive

05:22They're talking about free speech in our constitution
05:24That's what it's all about
05:26Not just White House correspondence
05:28It's really
05:29It was really based on free speech in our constitution
05:32But I said very importantly
05:34That we'll do it again
05:36Within the next 30 days
05:38And we'll make it bigger and better
05:40And even nicer
05:42So I just want to thank everybody that was involved
05:45I also want to thank the press, the media
05:47You've been very responsible in your coverage
05:50I will say I've been seeing what's been out
05:51You've been very responsible

06:04That was a rather traumatic experience for her

06:25Because we can't do that
06:26We wanted to stay tonight

06:36Because they didn't know
06:38There was a lot of action going on
06:40And they didn't know
