00:00Vincent, heel up fast, and we can't wait to see you back at the track.
00:03Will this trend continue, Mr. Carmichael, where we get another different winner?
00:07Anything can happen in the mud. Maybe it's that guy, number nine.
00:11This is the SMX next Supercross AMA National Championship race,
00:15and it's on here in Philly.
00:18Deacon Denno got a pretty good start.
00:23There he did, hole shot.
00:25There he is.
00:27The key to do in this rhythm lane.
00:30On the first lap right there, you can see he's able to build a gap.
00:33Now it's going to be survival, keeping that bike upright.
00:37Caden Muneer was the rider who went down.
00:39There is another rider down.
00:41Oh.
00:43Lawton, as he gets himself help and back up again.
00:48This whoop section is going to be extremely difficult,
00:51and the reason that it is is because it's so hard to keep your balance up
00:56when you're going that slow and there's ruts going all through him,
01:01very, very difficult just because of the slow speeds to keep that balance.
01:05Okay, Johnson's got away to a nice start on this opening lap as well.
01:10He's aboard, he's on that 177 Kawasaki.
01:13Jeremy Fapani is up there, but Deacon Denno aboard his Triumph is just streaking away.
01:23Clear vision for the time being, despite the rain melting down.
01:27Oh, whoever was in third there just dropped it.
01:30Oh, Muneer.
01:32Yep.
01:34I believe that was Caden Muneer went down.
01:39Oh, Malinowski going down.
01:41The fast man from earlier today, rider Malinowski.
01:45Incredible ride right here by Deacon Denno.
01:49He's able to build a gap.
01:50That's actually a blessing because as he'll be able to do that,
01:53he'll be able to slow down a little bit,
01:55not overcook the motorcycle and make it the six minutes plus one lap.
02:02Let's have a look at what happened to rider Malinowski.
02:06Aboard his Club MX.
02:08Where is he?
02:10Yamaha.
02:11There he is to the inside.
02:12Oh, no, sorry.
02:13Yeah, he just crossed Russ coming out of that corner right there.
02:17And where that bike is on the up ramp right there
02:20is an incredible difficult spot to pick that motorcycle up.
02:25You can see right there just struggling,
02:27but he does the right thing.
02:28He falls down by doing it.
02:29But to get that bike turned around makes it easier to pick up.
02:33Oh, man.
02:34I think that was Kaniga who fell right on top of the finish jump
02:38a little earlier where you were thinking it may have been Caden Muneer.
02:42I think it was Kaniga.
02:43Muneer is still making his way through after that first turn crash.
02:47So he's back in seventh.
02:50And this is Kate Johnson.
02:52He did a really nice job at Foxborough in the wind.
02:55So conditions playing his way.
02:58That was brutal conditions.
03:00Remember how thick it was and how heavy the dirt was?
03:04These riders were absolutely crawling through there.
03:08But...
03:10Open it up.
03:16There's a good scrap for fourth place.
03:19This is Landon Gibson on the 23, the rider ahead of the 170.
03:26Carminati.
03:29But, boy, just looking at that time, Kate Johnson's got his work cut out
03:33because Deacon Denno's now almost 10 seconds in the lead.
03:37Crazy.
03:37Yeah, he's just kind of cruising.
03:40Don't need to take any unnecessary risks.
03:42JT, what you think?
03:44Well, remember, we got to speak with Al Ocominati at Daytona coming down, coming up from Mexico.
03:50He was just looking for a chance to actually race the B-Class in Mexico.
03:54Makes the jump to SMX Nexus.
03:57That's a big step forward to race alongside these guys.
04:01And we talked about the equalizer part of this story.
04:03He really has kind of been on the outside looking in of this SMX Nexus race.
04:07But here he is, not too far away from possibly a podium here, RC.
04:10Yeah, I remember.
04:11Thanks for the refresher.
04:13Yeah, just a great kid to talk to and the excitement and doing a great job right here
04:18in gnarly conditions.
04:21Good to see Landon Gibson up there running in the top five.
04:26He's had a rough go since getting in this SMX Next class.
04:30A couple injuries.
04:34Who's that down there?
04:35This race was reduced, too, by the way, to six minutes plus a lap.
04:39Here comes Gibson.
04:41That's really nice rhythm and speed as he gets his way back up into the top four.
04:47Deacon Denno, Kate Johnson, Jeremy Fapani, the top three ahead of him.
04:55And unfortunately for Monster Energy star Yamaha's Caden Maneer, he's down in eighth place now.
05:03And it's a distant eight.
05:04Some 35 seconds back after dropping it on the Olympic lap.
05:08They're having a great scrap here.
05:09Fighting for position.
05:12Fighting for position, JT.
05:15But also fighting for clean air so you're not getting blasted by mud, right?
05:20Yeah, exactly.
05:21You know, you just think about the opportunity for a kid like Landon Gibson or Cambernati here.
05:26And Landon Gibson was one of the stars for the last couple of years.
05:29And we haven't seen a lot of them.
05:31Big expectations.
05:32It's a part of that Rockstar Husqvarna effort wanting to go up to the factory team.
05:36So this is a great opportunity for him to get back to form, try to land on the podium as
05:41he's still looking forward.
05:43That Fapani third spot is just looming right ahead of these guys.
05:46Well, you talk about the SMX Next program and what this was created for to give these young and up
05:52-and-coming riders opportunities to be on the main stage,
05:56get their feet wet before they move over full-time professional SMX racing, Monster Energy Supercross, Promotocross.
06:03And, boy, is this a learning experience.
06:07They're getting the full deal.
06:08We got to spend some time yesterday with Deacon Denno, with Cade Johnson, with Caden Meneer, and also Ryder Malinowski.
06:17And they shared with us that it's been very motivating for them to see riders this year alone.
06:23I mean, we can talk about the Cole Davies and the Hayden Deagans.
06:26But to see riders this year, like Landon Gordon and Caden Dudney, go up to the pros and race with
06:34the big-name riders,
06:35and they can see those tangible steps.
06:38So that's exciting them.
06:40Here is Jeremy Fapani doing a really nice job in third.
06:43Final lap.
06:45Been getting some help from John Tomac, who's here this weekend.
06:49The general.
06:54Meanwhile, back up front, in his own zip code, aboard his Triumph, is Deacon Denno.
07:00Yeah, really incredible job, especially going back to that start.
07:04He got a good jump.
07:05He was able to execute that first rhythm lane.
07:08And you can see it, plain as day, the gap that you're able to build.
07:13Now, if he can make it through, I believe this is going to be the toughest part of the race,
07:17if he wants to get this win.
07:18And get through here smooth, keep it upright.
07:20You can see he's going incredibly slow, taking his time.
07:24And he's been working very closely of late with Ivan Tedesco.
07:28And he said it is just brilliant working with Ivan.
07:31He has learned so much.
07:33And not only is he learning, he's delivering.
07:35Because Deacon Denno, if he stays where he is, will be the only rider to finish in the top five
07:41in all five of these SMX Next,
07:43presented by U.S. Army Events this year.
07:46Well, the consistency is where it's at.
07:49And you just said it right here.
07:51And this is going to be an incredible feat.
07:54Look at that.
07:55The 18-year-old is going to be the first multi-time winner.
08:00And this is a national championship race.
08:03Deacon Denno does it.
08:07Well done, Kate Johnson.
08:09Wasn't quite close enough to take the fight to Denno.
08:12But that's a great second.
08:13And finishing out the podium is Jeremy Fapani aboard his KTM.
08:25Oh, he's pumped.
08:27And rightly so.
08:29Deacon Denno wins the SMX Next Supercross AMA National Championship Race here in Philadelphia.
08:40That's another cool thing about the SMX Next, being able to take a little victory lap right here.
08:46Check out the camaraderie, horsemanship between his competitors.
08:50I love it.
08:51What a year.
08:51He wins Daytona at the World Center of Racing and now wins this national championship race in the mud here
08:59in Philly.
08:59Huge accomplishment.
09:01Deacon Denno, of course, that Factory Triumph Racing race.
