His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia has consented to the appointment of Datuk Seri Abdul Halim Aman as the new Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said the appointment is effective from May 13.

00:09In a statement on Saturday, Chief Secretary to the government, Tanshri Shamsul Azri Abubakar,
00:15said the appointment will take effect on May 13.
00:18He added that the decision follows a proposal submitted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar
00:24Ibrahim on Friday to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.
00:29The appointment was made in accordance with Subsection 5, Subsection 1 of the M.A.C.C. Act 2009.
00:36The government expressed confidence that Abdul Halim's extensive experience and strong integrity
00:42will help strengthen governance and boost public trust.
00:45He is also expected to intensify anti-corruption efforts in the interest of the nation.
00:51Meanwhile, the current M.A.C.C., Chief Commissioner, Tanshri Azambaki, who has held the post since
00:58March 9, 2020, is set to see his contract expire on May 12.
